She just said, "You're good." Honestly, shame on you for treating people like that. We know employees can trigger that alarm on purpose to make it seem like someone's stealing. Do better, Ulta. The good stuff: there's everything there you could ask for in beauty products. The bad stuff: the employees are unable to read the room. There are probably more older customers (50 and above) than younger ones in their twenties. But somehow the 'consultants' don't want to understand the different needs and desires of those of us in our twilight years. As a woman older than 70, who really loves skin and hair products, I want to be directed towards stuff that suits my skin. A young woman insisted on showing me moisturizers from a cosmetic line I used 40 years ago, even though I clearly told her I wasn't interested in revisiting it. In fact, she was the one miffed when I rejected the products she chose for me. Read the room, Ulta. We are here and we spend. Maybe Macy's is better able to help us find what we want. read more

I've come to the salon here several times for my hair and most of those times I've been mostly satisfied but the last 2 times were pretty disappointing to say the least. I'm not sure if I asked for something they don't do very often or if my hair just isn't cut out for that style or if they just aren't good at it or what. The first time was ok but fell short of what I had hoped for and was supposed to last longer than it did. The second time it didn't even last a full 2 days and literal chunks of my hair came out, which I didn't notice until I'd already left the salon since they were hidden under the rest of my hair. I have no desire to ever come back after multiple failed attempts at the same thing by different stylists and chunks of hair being fried off and ruined, even if a free fix is available "within the first week after the appointment". More importantly, as the professionals here, if my hair was at risk due to appointments being too close together for the type of service I needed, it should be the stylist's responsibility to let me know of any risks I'm putting myself into before continuing with ruining my hair. All I got was a question about when my last appointment was and who did it. At the end of the second appointment I was told I should "typically" wait "at least" a few months between appointments. It'd be nice if my hair lasted a few weeks let alone a few months if I'm supposed to wait that long, and it would be even nicer if I'd been told that beforehand so I wouldn't have ruined my hair in the process. Lesson learned. I personally also find it very unprofessional when one stylist comes and hangs around another who is actively working on their client's hair just to ask all kinds of questions like "do you like doing this type of service?" or "how many times have you done this type of service?" to the working stylist. For stylists who don't like that service or who haven't done it often, it puts them in a weird position in front of their clients, and for clients who would prefer not to be a test subject for stylists who haven't done it often, I'd prefer not to find out my stylist has done it fewer than x times WHILE they are actively doing it to my hair. I also don't love hearing my stylist tell the other that she doesn't really like doing it but "someone's gotta do it" while I'm paying her for it. As someone who also works in customer service: keep those subjects to your personal conversations and keep your personal conversations away from the clients. I won't be back and I certainly won't be recommending the salon after this. read more

Don't sleep on Ashley G. I'm new to the area from CA! I've had a horrible time trying to secure a stylist. It's bad luck or work ethic but stylists keep canceling her. In desperation i called Ulta after another stylist canceled. I needed a color correction because I dyed it myself after the last stylist cancels. I saw Ashley G was a Master Colorist- whatever that means, hopeful she had experience to just put some blonde on top until we could figure out the disaster of my hair She is amazing! She fixed my hair, gave me this gorgeous buttery blonde. (I keep asking for but getting icy-which does not look good on my skin tone) She killed it. I have very curly, mixed-racial hair, and I tried many local salons and always had a really bad experience and couldn't find some that could do a proper blowout for my hair. They will always make feel embarrassed about how curly and frizzy my hair was and how much hair I have. I came today for a blowout with Julia! And OMG! I finally found my person!! I had an awful experience at this salon. First they cut a chunk of my hair off on one side (see pics). I cannot put it in a ponytail which I need to for my work. I will be dealing with this for MONTHS! I assumed it was an accident so I called to talk about it. The salon manager advised me to email her pics and to come in. She was not there when I came in so I spoke to the store manager. She assured me she would call me back and process a refund. Skip forward to a week later. No phone call, no refund. I called back and the salon manager was not there so I spoke with the store manager again. I told her I was very unhappy with my hair and upset about how they were handling the situation. She gave me excuses. She should have taken care of it or delegated it to someone else. She finally said my refund would be ready at the cashier area. Normally everyone in the store is very friendly. They were not friendly when I picked up my refund. Really how hard is it for a STORE manager to complete a refund. I can't believe I had to go through all that because THEY messed up MY hair! EVERY time my wife goes to this beauty supply store she is given the third degree at the check out counter. My wife begins by stating politely that she is not a member and does not care to be one. She also states that she does not want to give one of her friend's personal information away so that they may give her friend free points. My wife JUST WANTS TO PURCHASE AND GO. Invariably, the third degree of why she does not accept the points or give them to a friend is given by some smug, rude, and unprofessional twenty something. The company must be instructing these kids in this type of behavior. We have been looking elsewhere for the products needed as Ulta Beauty has failed utterly in customer service. I had a great haircut by Sierra. She helped me pull off bangs and gave me a whole new look! It's hard to find a good place post pandemic, everyone wants to book you way out and make you come in for a consult prior. I was at the mall to pick up something for Christmas. Can't walk by store without being approached first by a sample of hand cream then pulled in by ' I want to show you something' brought into shop put on some expensive cream under one eye to compare. Tried to be nice told couldn't afford on SS he threw in another cream. I told him Christmas was coming and couldn't afford at this time! He then gave me some veterans discount since my deceased brother was a veteran? And threw in another facial procedure. I caved and bought the two wrinkle removal creams for $190! Wasn't in any hurry so had procedure that was another high pressure sales pitch for a ?4,000 mechanism?! I shut down that! Regretted it since! I could have spent that $ on my grandkids?! read more

In early October I called Ulta for price for a haircut. I was told they charged $45. I also asked if they had a stylist that was good with short hair, and if she sectioned the hair. Sure, I was told, and was then given a name and number for this stylist. I booked an appointment about 3 weeks later. I have a pixie cut that had grown out, and needed a shape up. I had washed my hair before going in. I told the stylist that a wash wasn't needed, just a wet down. Then she began cutting without wetting and without sectioning. I commented 'oh, so you don't section? Oh, she replies, it's ok. I said, you're welcome to wet it down. But she didn't. She commented that she rarely gets to cut short hair...and it shows. A pixie cut is a classic cut, but she was clueless. I have about 50 years of haircut experiences, and I have received some lousy cuts(especially here in Medford), and the main problem is lack of sectioning.Pixies are a precision style, with many techniques involved. But I have NEVER had a DRY haircut as well. The stylist was also tall, she had to bend from waist down to cut. How efficient can that be? I thought the chairs could be adjusted. THEN she charged me $57! NO wash, no blow dry(I didn't want) no hair products used or offered. The haircut I received wins as the worst haircut ever! I can see the horizontal cuts, almost like a bowl cut. So, I get to spend the next 3 months doing what I can to clean it up. My hair will grow out, but $45 is a hit on a fixed income,$57 is a hard hit on a fixed income, especially for an amateur cut. Please check YouTube. There are great tutorials from professionals, and you will never see them cutting w/out sectioning, and definitely NEVER DRY. I am not giving the name of the stylist, hoping she will see this and learn. read more

Nicole cut my hair. I have extremely short hair and wanted my outgrown Mohawk to be turned into a pixie. What should have taken her less than 30 minutes took her an hour and thirty at $37. I felt totally scammed as the whole experience was slow and the end result adequate at best. If I could give this Ulta Beauty zero stars I would. Every time I go in, I can literally hear them talking shit about the customers. They are not friendly at all. If I can recall one girl, I think her name was Brandy who was so snotty and gave me dirty looks. I was being helped by a cashier and she told me if I spend a certain amount then I can get a gift. She stated she would hold my stuff and the girl, Brandy, was the cashier next to her. I was gone for 4 minutes and when I returned to the register none of my stuff was there. I asked where it was and Brandy stated, we can't hold stuff up here. So I proceeded to collect my items once again. When I got back to the register, I asked my cashier a question regarding the 50% off sale that was happening and Brandy butted in saying No were not allowed to do that. She was just so rude and I felt like she was targeting me. Anytime I go in there, the workers are always huddled up in a group and I feel like if I ask a question then it's an inconvenience. I believe there is a manager in there as well who isn't friendly either. She's a blonde slender woman and I've asked her helped a few different times and she's just as careless. She passes me off to other colleagues and this has happened many times. Long story short, I Love Ulta Beauty but I HATEEEE coming to this location. One staff member showed me the curlers on sale and recommended the one she uses and showed me how to use it too! The service is just okay. The workers seem bothered by you being there and aren't very friendly. Hopefully that's not every time but merely the last few I've been in... The selection of make up is great, they have a lot of great brands with good products in each line. I don't stick to one individual brand because some of them have better products than others. Like urban decay has good eyeliner, but benefit has amazing powder cover up, while I use cargo (they stopped carrying it) liquid foundation. The hair "department" is enormous. Wow, they have like 30 brands of shampoo. I'm really glad they carry KMS, because I love this hair brand. They make quality products. They have clearance throughout the store but pretty much nothing in the way of makeup, unfortunately (unless they stop carrying it - I got like, 8 products of Cargo that way once for dirt cheap, it was awesome)! Parking is okay, prices are a little higher than California because there's no tax, but it's barely noticeable.. like .50 to $1; in some cases, no price increase at all. I would recommend this place for sure to anyone who does make up / hair. read more

This place is amazing. Some of their products are a little pricey (for example, you can get their Aveeno products at Wal Mart for about a dollar less per item), but they have such an amazingly wide selection of products - from convenience store brands to high end brands, so it's easy to find what you're looking for within your budget. Also really appreciate their rewards program. BUT... as awesome as this place is, I didn't decide to write this review until I went to the salon and got my hair done by CAROLINE. She is amazing, does exactly what you ask, and understands what you mean when you try to describe what type of haircut you want. Going to get my hair done by her is probably the least stressful salon experience I can possibly imagine. She just knows what she's doing and will continue tweaking it until it is exactly what I want. Not to mention she is very sweet, funny, down to earth, and easy to talk to. Also I know I'm not the only one who feels the same - be prepared to book ahead if you want an appointment with her because she books up quickly :) I once called on a Wednesday to see when the earliest opening was, and she didn't have an opening until Monday O.O Yeah. Up til today, I had not yet been to Ulta. I called for an appointment with Tammy (my hair stylist for about 15 years), and found she had relocated there! As always, she gave me a perfect cut! Afterwards Tammy and I went over to the make up counter and dabbled in some bare minerals. Aurora had perfect timing when she came over and helped pick out the perfect shade for me! Emily was gracious enough to show me some tips on eyebrows, give me a discount facial future visit, and guide me through the store to buy the items I had on my list !!! Had a wonderful time. Ulta can be completely overwhelming with their abundance of products so it is especially nice to have great employees guide you through the selection process. Having opened during the last two weeks while we were on vacation, I dragged my kids into Ulta with me to check it out. Would I have been ecstatic had we received a Sephora instead? Yes. But will you be hearing any complaints from me? No. Because, Ulta has come a long way from when they first started, when all they seemed to carry were drugstore cosmetic brands. Many (although not all) brands I shop at Sephora are also available here. I will not be able to accumulate points on my Beauty Insider account, but what does this really short me other than a free sample here and there or a 'special offer' I can't live without? The two things that make me happiest are that Ulta is a specialized retail store that is the same scale as what you would find in the city, and they are open typical city hours and not small town hours. Bottom line, I am an old fashioned shopper who likes to see all the OPI colors for sale with my own eyes instead of on a computer screen (or phone screen as I am typing on now.) I love the selection in this store considering we don't really have a place like this anywhere in southern Oregon. I know a ton of people who complain about the price but if you go by makeup at Macy's or perfume it is the same price so the price doesn't' bother me. What does bother me is their customer service and the product knowledge is terrible there is no service and no knowledge. If I need help I have to hunt down an associate and they are usually annoyed that you are breaking up their conversations and then when you ask them about something they give you a very so-so maybe answer that makes you far from comfortable buying something you aren't familiar with. I spend quite a bit of money in here and would probably spend more if they upped their service and had some people in their with knowledge. read more
