I've never had anything but excellent experiences at Ulta, so when it comes to addressing the general Ulta unrest, in the words of Lucille Bluth: "I don't understand the question, and I won't respond to it." For real: Ulta and I are good. And especially this location near the Keystone Mall. I got greeted by no fewer than four people within the first five minutes of entering Ulta. Some people think that should be standard, but to me, that seems excessive. I like to be ignored at any shop that I visit. If you don't say a dang word to me the entire time I'm in your store, I will leave completely happy. But other people like to be acknowledged and greeted and asked if they need help finding things. And to those people I say: Visit this Ulta! They will greet you and help you find things. I told all of the people who greeted me that I was just there to look around, and they kindly let me be. I found what I came for (a Laura Mercier eyeshadow stick). Then I remembered that I needed a Dermalogica oil cleanser, and then I remembered that I wanted to get a special nail polish for my toes. (I found a cool metallic dark purple polish.) And then I just got lost looking at all of the nice things that promised to make me prettier and glossier and younger and happier. There are lots of things at Ulta! But they're all organized nicely and displayed prettily. read more

You know, I have never had a bad haircut at Ulta? And I got an appointment on the day I called. They told me the trick is to not call on a Monday Tuesday or Wednesday because they just aren't staffed as much on those days. GTK!! Everyone was so friendly and nice and chitchatting and checking out the new hairstyles. I was very excited about my bangs. I haven't had in many many years and Emily did a great job. When I saw her, I was like that's what I want your bangs just a little longer and she totally gave me a blowout and you can't see in the picture but it is beautiful. And when I got home, I tried styling it myself and it was still looking good so I'm very impressed. This isn't a store you'd typically find me in. However, it was mum's day so we did what mum wanted. So, we rolled int Ulta with this mission in mind: find mom all new makeup...turns out ten year Clinique isn't doing the trick any more. Mom sat down with Tia and rolled through everything from foundation and lips to mascara and moisturizer. Tia did a fantastic job of educating and offering hands-on tips with each of the products. Nothing felt rushed throughout the experience. The store itself is filled from top to bottom with hair masks, shampoos, lotions, fake eyelashes, hair accessories, liptsick, you name it. They've got it. It was both overwhelming and fun to explore this uncharted territory. I tend to hold on to my makeup until its on its last leg and only update when necessary. This certainly gave me a glimpse into the world of intense makeup. Be prepared to spend a boatload. But note that they have a decent amount of products highlighted in the clearance sections in the back. They're easy to spot. read more

Just want to preface this by saying this is my first time ever writing a review but it seemed like a good day to start because I'm tired of bad customer service. So this was my first time in Ulta...I wasn't greeted when I came in the store but when I got to the back by the flat irons I was asked if I needed help finding anything. I told the lady "I saw on TikTok that there's a sale here on..." and before I finished my sentence she stated "I've never been on TikTok a day in my life" in a snarky way. Weird flex but ok. So I kinda knew how the conversation was going to go from there. She kept interrupting me, I don't think I ever got a full sentence out. By the end of the interaction even after scrolling through & showing her multiple TikTok videos of women buying discounted flat irons within the past couple days, she continued to act like I was the clueless one because according to her "all sales are store wide" and she didn't see a sale on flat irons in this weeks ad. I wish I would have just told her I didn't need help finding anything because there were several other things I was interested in buying but I couldn't bring myself to after experiencing that type of customer service. She was an older lady with thick framed glasses, I wish I looked at her name tag but I didn't. Service here is always a hit or miss. Sometimes you'll get awesome service. I've been helped by super friendly employees who go out of their way to help me find what I'm looking for. Other times I've had people who seem to have started their first day ever working in customer service... and lack common sense on top of it. I've picked up online orders without a problem, quick in and out. And I've gone to pickup online orders and been told to go to the online pickup counter only to watch the same employee stand there with no one to help while their coworkers are busy... then come over to help me 2 minutes later, reaching in a bin to hand me my order. I love this store to shop in but I had the WORST experience getting my make-up done. I had called to ask about contouring and they told me I needed to make an appointment, so I did. In the past I have had stuff done at Sephora and as long as you purchase x amount of dollars in make-up the tutorial is free. I assumed it was the same here, but that was not the case. This woman did my make-up and not well. She didn't show me how to contour at all. My make-up was cakey and I looked like a ghost. The worst part was the $50 price tag for the bad make-up job. Someone should have been upfront about the cost. I will never come back here for any kind of make-up in the future. Sephora will be getting all of my business. read more

As someone who is quite naive when it comes to makeup, I was very pleased with the service at this location. I needed some tinted sunscreen that would work with my skin type but did not know what brand/type would be best. One of the floor attendants approached me and asked what I was looking for, walked me over to show what would work best for me, and even picked out the shade I would need to match my skin color (during covid, you cannot try on any of the samples to make sure they match so this was very helpful). Additionally she helped me find some skin care items that I could use to help some problems I mentioned I was having with my skin, so that was a bonus! I love Ulta, but this location is not great. Many employees, including management, seem completely under interested in working, helping customers, or doing anything except stand around and seem irritated when you ask questions. The last time I was in, there was one manager and two employees standing near the registers talking and I asked if one could ring me up. All they said was - no, we are not on register. Really? When I have asked for specialty products, they seem to have no clue whether they carry items or not and are downright unwilling to do any leg work to find out. The last time I was there, the salesgirl literally said, "I don't see it where I thought it would be, so we probably don't have it." Me - can you check and make sure. Her - I don't know how I would do that. I go here because it's cheap, close, and the selection is pretty good. I wish there was a better managed one near me. read more

I like that they carry drug store favorites to higher end products. The prices are much more affordable here than Sephora. They remodeled not so long ago but it seems that they put in a lot more items/aisles and it seems narrow and crowded when people are actively shopping the same items. I've always been greeted and assisted even when I didn't need it. They are super nice about honoring coupons and giving feedback on products. read more

I have come into this store three times. Every single time I have left upset. Today I came in looking for a specific Eyeshadow palette. I didn't see it so I asked an associate if they were sold out or if they simply were online only, or had not gotten it in, and the employee shrugged at me and didn't say anything. I asked again and she said she didn't know. I then went to check out with a few small items I didn't really even need, and the associate helping me used my ulta rewards points without asking me if I wanted to. He said something about not having the birthday gift and threw "next months birthday gift" in instead. It is literally the second day of the month first of all. Second of all if they had said they were out I would have told them I didn't want the item and would have waited til the end of the month to see if anything else came at the tail end. I had my card on the table and he swiped it and was talking a mile a minute about it being the end of the night. When I saw he used the points, I told him I didn't want him to do that. And he got really disgruntled and then spent a few minutes returning and repurchasing the item, and after that said I would have to call customer service "to fix my mistake". Ok. Everyone has a bad day, and it was the end of the night. I get it. He seemed really nice just desperate to leave and there were still like 6 people in the store. But there is no reason to be pushy and act like your customer is putting you out when they are asking for something the store itself offers. I don't know it just really rubbed me the wrong way. From now on if I have to order from ulta I'm sticking to online orders. Every time I visit this location it stresses me out, but maybe someone else will catch them having a better day. read more

A friend and I went here for OPI gel manicures. The nail tech seemed to have issues with the polish---not sure if the color I chose (Lincoln Park After Dark - hollaaaaaa!) was old---and had to keep wiping off and redoing my nails on the first hand. My friend's manicure seemed to go better than mine. I ended up with a bump on one of my nails, but due to time constraints, didn't say anything. A day or two later, I noticed that I had wet nail polish oozing out from that area all over my desk. Yikes! The person who had done my nails was nice enough to have me come back and get a redo free of charge, but I'm not sure I'd go back again. You're just sitting at a little desk at the back of the store, which isn't very relaxing, and the gel manicure was just that---putting the polish on, but no soaking your hands/cleaning up your cuticles etc. read more

I'm very pleased with how this Ulta is hanging covid and infection prevention. When you walk into the store, you are greeted by a team member wearing a mask. They ask you if you've been in since they opened and if not, they explain to you how they have changed their operations. They don't allow sampling, but tell you to find one of them if you need help finding a color match. They also have hand sanitizer around the store, which they also explain to you. They were all so nice and I really appreciate them being so cautious with infection prevention. read more

No hate towards the one in my neck of the woods, but y'all don't carry CosRX or Mamonde or any of the other Korean brands that I'm looking for! But this location does, and I don't mind driving 30 minutes to even just walk around the store! As for the store, the staff is ALWAYS friendly and the store is always clean. I came in here to get help picking out a new foundation but was paired with a girl who told me to pick out what I wanted to try and she'd color match me, but 1. All of the colors she picked out did not match me and 2. I didn't know what I wanted which is why I came in to ask for "expert" advice. I picked some, I didn't like them, and asked if I should wipe them off and try others. The girl said, "Sure, use this." She left some container open near me that looked like a lotion, and walked away. She began helping another customer and never came back. It was disheartening and it made my 30-60 minute visit take 2 hours. Finally another worker saw me in despair and rescued me. She was patient and kind, and I ended up leaving with over $100 dollars in product and brushes. Let me preface this by saying I am a frequent shopper here. From makeup and hair product to fragrance to getting my eyebrows done, this is where I go. This location specifically. Today I walk in about 4:45 before the evening crowd to get my eyebrows done before I leave to go out of town for the holiday weekend. I walk in, it's not busy really at all. There are about 4 girls behind the check out counter. I walked in looked to the eyebrow bar and about a minute later I approached the check out counter to see if I could get some assistance. Now - they publicly let people know that they welcome walk ins, and that is how I have ALWAYS had my brows done, just by walking in at different times of the day. A woman comes from behind the counter and mildly seems annoyed but i understand she works retail and the next 72 hours are about to be insane. Instead of her being polite or even seeming like she wants to help me - she flips through a book on the brow bar and says yeah I don't have a single thing til 7:40 or 8 pm. Okay let's be realistic it's not even 5 pm, I literally said ah I'm sorry, I drove 30 minutes across town to come here and I can't wait until 8 pm. I asked her about waiting for a bit if the esthetician was at lunch or something and that I didn't mind to wait a bit. She did told me no not until those two times only. Now when you have a specific service you offer, wouldn't it be smart to have someone able to provide that service during your open hours and not at the very end of the night? I am frustrated because she was not friendly and seemed annoyed that I was just trying to pay for a service I get all the time. I ended up going down the road to a salon and they did a fantastic job, mapped, waxed and trimmed my brows and were friendly and professional. I don't wear much make up or try a lot of beauty products, so it seems that whenever I'm here, I'm seeking something that I either found on Pinterest or read a review about online that I'd like to purchase as a gift for one of my friends. Being in love with make up I have been to many Ulta locations from when I lived in Florida to now living in Indiana. This location is by far the worst location. I drove far to go to this location due to online saying that a particular item I was looking for was found there. When I walked in I was not even greeted or asked if I needed anything, which was rude. I had to keep looking around for someone and when I got someones attention they looked super annoyed. I asked for the product because it was not on the stand. The employee walked away for 30 seconds and came back and said that sometimes it takes time to receive stuff and that they could not find it. Which I found impossible since she walked away for 30 seconds.... She advised I called in the morning and see if they got the shipment. I called this morning and the person picked up the phone saying hello in a rude way. I explained what I was looking for and she said yeah no it isnt here and I said oh okay.. and then SHE HUNG UP. No how else can I help you? Let me see where else you can get this product. I have never seen such rude employees. Corporate needs to fix this store. read more

I have never been a huge fan of Ulta and on a whole much prefer Sephoras, but they carry some brands that I can't find elsewhere in a pinch. This location is my most frequented and always has the longest lines while their other store representatives mull around doing nothing but conversing with one another. Let me start this post by stating I was nervous going to new hairdresser. I was feeling spontaneous on Monday, and decided to get my haircut on a whim. Nothing fancy, a few layers, a little shorter, it can't be that hard right? WRONG. I left the studio with a large drop in length on one side, while the rest of my hair was one length. I told the hairdresser at the time and she said "it kinda looks like bangs, it'll be fine". I left thinking I was crazy. I then called later after being told by a friend that my hair did indeed look odd. I called the store hoping they would rectify the situation. The nice lady on the phone said she would take care of it and to head on over. I drove 18 minutes (of a 20 minute drive) and I was called back stating "the manager has to look at it- she'll call you tomorrow at 9 am" I offered to send pictures to the manager to prove that my hair does indeed look bad, to which the lady on the phone said no... annoying. I drove home. Then today, I made sure I was free at 9 am. No call. She finally called around 11 am. The earliest availability (because the manager doesn't work in the evening?) would be Saturday in the afternoon. I even offered to come straight after work when I got off at 4:30 pm, and the manager stated she is leaving at 5 so she can't help. That would mean I have to cancel my weekend plans for a haircut. No thanks. So I decided to go to a different salon, pay extra, just to not deal with this place anymore. The lady at the new salon's first comment on seeing my hair was "what happened to you?!" AVOID THIS PLACE FOR A HAIRCUT. You will wind up spending money to undo it! I will not be back, and will spend a little more to buy my makeup from Sephora from now on. read more

To me, Ulta isn't any cheaper or better-stocked than Sephora, and with a decidedly lower-scale feel. The white theme gets easily and visibly dirty, and some of the products smell rancid at times. Plus, the Ulta brand repeatedly disappoints me. The powder has that chalky look and not true-to-skintone colors; the lipsticks, while prettily shaded, tend to smell like old cosmetics. As far as I've seen, the prices for the upscale stuff are more expensive that at department stores. They wanted like $40 for Sugar perfume here, when I've bought it for $35, I believe, at Sephora. read more

It is super hard to make me dislike a makeup and fragrance store. They are my disposable income weaknesses. I have been a loyal Ulta customer so long to where the current employees do not recognize my Rewards card as it is so old. This particular location is beyond ridiculous. I purchased a nail lamp brand new (and it was very expensive). Opened it at home and there were used cotton balls with removed nail polish in the unit. Vowed never to return to this location. Ran out of time to drive to the Plainfield store before one of my coupons was expiring and went back to this location. I ended up helping customers who had questions about Urban Decay makeup as there was no one to be found anywhere in the store. When an employee is found, they are either not knowledgeable about the product or completely uninterested in being helpful. Perhaps I am spoiled by the Ulta in Oak Brook, IL that I patronize when traveling for work, but the management and operation of this location leave a lot to be desired and it will force my considerable business to Sephora until a change is made. read more

This review serves to warn others before you spend your hard earned cash here under the impression that you're getting "deals." After pricing a few frequently used items here, i.e. make-up, shampoo and conditioner, perfume, I've found the items are no less inexpensive and all can be found online for a more reasonable price. The quality of the products are questionable, as well. I purchased a bare minerals make-up brush that shortly afterward the brush hair started falling out and the handle came completely unglued. The cherry on top was finding out it was exactly the same price as the brushes you can purchase at the BM store in the Fashion Mall. In my experience, when I have asked the staff questions about products or for help in the store in general, I have been met with passive attitudes and annoyance in their tone of voice. I have also noticed the lack of cleanliness and organization on their display shelves. This could be for a number of reasons and having worked retail before, I find this to be blatant neglect. The ulta rewards card is hardly rewarding. I do not consume enough beauty products in a condensed amount of time to cash in on the measly $7 - $10 cash back after spending upwards of $100. read more

I'm somewhat of an Ulta junkie. I normally can't walk out of this places without spending a decent amount. Last night, I made an emergency run because I broke my curling iron earlier in the day. I splurged on a higher quality iron. The stylists were great at directing me to the better product and even offered some at different price points. The one I selected ended up having a free gift with purchase deal. And what a deal it was. I received a free straightener that was worth as much as the iron I was buying (more than $50). Ulta's free gifts are one of the many reasons I love the store so much. I've found some of my favorite products with these offers. The store does offer a weekly or biweekly circular which always offers a coupon. My only gripe with the coupon is that it can't be used on everything in the store such as higher end products. But they do offer a rewards program and if you tend to purchase most of your beauty products there like do, you'll earn points pretty quickly. I walked in and was greeted by a beautiful woman wearing rainbow eyeshadow. Got my eyebrows done and full glam makeup for my birthday. The makeup was fantastic and I love my eyebrows. I have never been to an Ulta beauty and this location was clean and everyone seemed nice and helped me out with my makeup questions, so I'll definitely be visiting again. read more
