I always spend so much money when I come to ulta and I love this for them!! This store is a pretty decent size with a really good selection of makeup. Also thank gosh they have the testers out again so I can try to color match on my hand. I always feel like an artist with the swatches of color on my hands. It's also easy to find something to clean my hand off as well. I haven't been to the salon so I can speak on that. EVERYONE at the brow bar is amazing! I've been a few times for a wax and even had my brows tented with I love because I don't have to fill them in. Also I came in today and was helped by Liza! Liza was nothing short of amazing, I needed help because I bought IT foundation and it was a little too bright on my face. Liza helped color match me but we couldn't find the right shade and I also mentioned maybe doing something less than full coverage. Liza quickly took me over and matched me in fenty. Thank gosh! Respectfully, I waited more than 10 minutes for one item at curbside if you know that your employees aren't gonna do the curbside just take it off respectfully I could've saved myself a lot of time I ended up going inside to go pick it up. I want to start by stating I am educated on hair chemistry and understand how hair processes color. Now, I got my hair done and I have never been more disappointed or embarrassed of a salon service as much as this one. The appointment was for a simple full highlight. I had 100% virgin hair and had not gotten my hair professionally done in 8 years. I wanted to do something nice for myself, to make myself feel good. However I'm so unhappy with the results I will likely never get my hair done again. The appointment was for a full highlight, I was not expecting to be charged for 2 full highlights and a partial highlight all in one appointment. She added on olaplex to preserve the integrity of my hair- laughable because I can't even get a brush through my hair now. The appointment took 7 hours. Yes 7 hours. She left the bleach to process while she took continuous breaks and did not bother to check on me if I needed anything like water or a snack. At one point the bleach was literally burning my scalp and it hurt so badly. I was so nauseous by the end of the appointment I was ready to pass out. She left toner on my hair while she took another appointment completely and she practically ruined my hair by over processing it. She did not even talk to me the entire appointment, no customer rapport was built and when she did talk it was only about herself. Completely unprofessional. The final result was maybe one or two levels lighter than I originally went in with. Yet I had a $350 bill. She ripped me off and overcharged me for so many different services. read more

Let me start with OMG I'm so in love with how my hair turned out Nicole was my hairstylists and she was amazing! She talked me through the process and even recommend what I should get. I gave her the full control and I'm so glad I did. She had a hard canvas to work with my hair was box dyed with splat metallic and just overall awful, the bleach took one session and lifted most of the color off. I wanted a blue/green and she went with it I wasn't allowed to look at myself for a more dramatic surprised but I cried at the result I'm IN LOVE WITH IT She and the employees at Ulta gave me tips on how maintain the color so it won't fade away fast I would definitively be coming back read more

So this review is not against the stylist - but Ulta itself and their policies for the salon! I had my hair done and it looked great - the day of - but after a week the color had already faded and was looking more orange than blonde. I contacted the stylist to see if she could do a touch-up but she informed me that Ulta does not offer this. For this reason alone I will never return to get my hair done at Ulta. Every salon I have ever been to offers a 2-week touch-up policy and if you are not happy with your hair in that time, they will do a complementary touch-up. After spending over $200 on my hair, I expect it to last more than a week, and I most certainly expect there to be some type of "satisfaction guaranteed" policy in place. Without that, I feel your customers are getting poor service, and allows the stylists to do whatever they want because they won't be held accountable should the client go home unhappy! read more

I had a signature cut done today by Brittany which my hair clearly BADLY needed after not being cut in over 4 months and because I use quite a bit of heat on my hair. Here is a before and after! No color, just the cut and deep conditioning! I feel so much better! $55 for this?! Yes please! I had 7.5in taken off (pandemic hair growth lol) and some layers thrown in. This review is for the salon-not the store. First, let me start of by saying this is not meant to be a personal attack on anyone because everyone at this location has been friendly. I was actually hesitant about posting for that reason but since I spent a lot of money and was not happy at all with my application, I feel the need to post. Last weekend, I had an appt. for a glam blowout and a glam makeup application for my work's holiday party-it's the ONE time a year I "treat" myself to the makeup and blowout. When I made the appt. I specifically told the lady on the phone I wanted false eyelashes and a little contouring (which is why it's the glam and not a regular makeup application). She said that was fine and that my hair would be done by one person and my makeup would be done by another. I arrived for my appt. 20 minutes early. I checked in and told the desk I was going to go ahead and purchase my eyelashes. I did that and shopped around and at about 5 minutes before my appt. I went back to the desk to wait. I ended up being seen 10 minutes late-which was no big deal. Come to find out, the manager had changed the schedule so that I was seeing the same person for both services, but the individual I was with, didn't do glam makeup, so they were running around trying to find someone to do my makeup. One girl said she would do it, but then her hair client decided last minute to get makeup, but basically, I was getting tossed around a bit until one of the girls who doesn't even work at the salon, but was a rep at one of the cosmetic lines, said she would do it. She finished my eyes (which were AMAZING by the way) but then got pulled away to help a customer, so the individual who did my hair finished my face. During my face makeup, the individual was VERY rushed. There was NO concealer used, there was no primer used-just foundation that was not even put on smooth. There was blush put on but it was VERY, VERY light. No contouring. I had asked for maroon or burgundy lips and the individual brought me BRIGHT red which didn't go with my eyes at all, so when I said I didn't like the red, they brought back a clear moxie gloss that changes colors. I wasn't crazy about it, but since it was on, I wanted to purchase it so I could reapply though the night-but there wasn't any in stock (I still don't understand why I was never brought burgundy). I was legitimately confused why someone would put a product on the customer and miss out on a sales opportunity. It was all VERY rushed. I know this was due in part to getting started late and also because I was being passed around. Considering I was paying for this pre-made appointment which I arrived early for, it was very upsetting. I was quickly shown my face and checked out. I did find another gloss that was similar. When I got in the car and really looked at my face, I quickly realized I looked like Casper the ghost and I guess during the process of applying foundation, half one of my eyebrows (which were filled in bc I have very thin eyebrows) was wiped off. I don't even think I blame the person who was doing my face makeup because they were set up for failure by the person who scheduled a glam appt. with them, when that is something they do not even do-which wasted time since they had to find someone to do my eyes, which made the face and lips VERY rushed. It was SUPER disappointing. I had to go home and removed my eyebrows and face makeup and redo it. It was a bummer. Shame on the person who changed the schedule. Side note-I didn't complain the night of because I had an hour to get home, change, and get to the event (also redo my makeup). Complaining then would have just stressed me out and my face would not have been fixed at the store since at that point, I did not have time. Ulta has a decent selection of uncommon men's grooming products at prices sometimes a little better than department stores. The salespeople are very helpful too. You can find salon quality shampoos here as well. I like to shop here for Jack Black, Clinique, Art of Shaving lines. It's closer than Nordstrom. I suggest that you sign up for the coupons and promotions so that you get those discounts I never remember to bring and then hit myself for not getting a better deal. They asked if I needed help and when I declined, they started talking about me before I was even out of earshot. Newsflash, ladies -- I don't wear make up to Ulta so I can more freely play with samples and try things. There's logic in that choice. I assure you, I use the stuff I buy -- and I buy quite a bit. That said, there's a guy who I've only seen at the front register (not sure what his job is) who is awesome -- last night he was working two registers simultaneously to get the line down quickly. So I love the Gurnee store as I recently discovered it. It was absolute night and day to the Vernon Hills store I am used to. Gurnee was wonderfully organized, extremely clean and stocked with product and helpful staff! I have to say this store truly improved my opinions of ulta beauty. Vernon Hills is out of my fav products on a regular basis, and sadly I leave empty handed sometimes.... Vernon Hills also doesn't create the warm enthusiastic environment that Gurnee did. Purchasing cruelty free is something extremely important to me, and when I vocalized this to an employee at Vernon Hills - she seemed to lose interest in helping me and walked away back to her Clinique counter. However at Gurnee, I truly felt heard and understood! The associates were lovingly helpful and kind- and were able to make other cruelty free brand recommendations outside of ones I already knew! I was super impressed! I will move my business to the Gurnee location from now on. read more

I came into Ulta with a horrible, self-administered, haircut that I desperately needed fixed and Nicole turned me into a new, cuter, version of myself!! I decided to cut my own hair (would NOT advise) one weekend and severely misjudged how much hair I needed for bangs. Let's just say I turned my beautiful beachy LONG blonde hair into a MULLET. I was in tears for multiple days. But as soon as I walked into Ulta, Nicole came to my rescue and not only turned my hair into the cutest bob, but added some purple gloss to help me regain the feelings I was wanting from cutting my own hair - she helped me reclaim my power and I was again feeling fearless (something I was in desperate need of). Though the salon was busy, he took the time to acknowledge what I wanted done and did it perfectly, making me aware of everything he was doing and why he was doing it. This is a great place to go if you truly want someone who knows what they're doing to color your hair- while on more of the expensive side (my partial highlights were around $125) the color lasts and looks great. Unfortunately; I took off one star because of a rude employee. Not happy with that brief experience with an employee who clearly didn't want to be there. The store it self gets at most 3 stars and here's why: 1) every time I call to make an apt to get my eyebrows done I am on hold for 10 minutes or I just give up and hang up. Impossible to get through. 2) many times they are out of the products I use. I find myself doing the majority of my product shopping at the vernon hills location because they have all the colors etc in stock. 3) I came in here when they were doing an eyeliner event with benefit and got a lot of attitude from the ladies doing the event. When I asked to try it to see how I felt about it she just get yelling at me for squeezing out too much and just wasn't friendly. But... Katie at the benefit brow bar deserves 5 stars. She is excellent. Friendly, she always tried to accommodate apts, and best of all she knows what she's doing with brows. Overly great selection of O.P.I and Essie as well as Piggy.Sally Henson on the other side shares a section with the more economically priced Revlon, Maybeline and other cheaper products you could find in Walmart or Target. Since i didn't have much money i decided to buy 1 O.P.I polish for $8.50 and get the cuticle remover(under $5) and top coat (under $5) from Sally Henson.I also bought one discounted nail polish from the Ulta brand for $1.99 but wasn't as pleased with it because of the watery consistency. The hair care,makeup and perfumes were in good supply and top brands also.I had an easy shopping experience without losing all my money.Ill come back only because this is slightly boutiqueish in a sense.Very well designed put together store. read more

For those who don't know, Ulta is a beauty supply chain store and salon in one. Ulta is generally like a cheaper version of Sephora - fewer options in high-end makeup, plus a salon, plus the drugstore brands sectored off to the side. Visit the website for an idea of what they carry. EDIT: Well, it seems like the snooty girls are gone, or else I never run into them anymore, which is great. That brings service up to three stars. It would be misleading to give this place five stars just because the level of service is acceptable now. But do I necessarily expect more from an ULTA? Not really. It's fine as is, so three stars. I was just at Ulta at Gurnee. They had two beauty make up organizers above a sign that stated they are $19.99. i checkout and it rung up for $75. The employee goes to check and just tells us that they were put in the wrong place by other customers and will NOT honor the price. This is deceiving to customers like me to hold up the line over the store not keeping items organized. there was at least 6 employees walking around doing nothing asking constantly if they could help, meaning you have enough employees to ensure the store and items are organized properly, pull half of those people to organize and other half to help cuatomers. ver sad that price was not honored. read more

If I could give this ulta a negative score as to how likely I would recommend someone to shop there I would . I have never ever experienced customer service this bad in my life before I came to this store . I walked in and no one greeted me , as I was looking around for a specific product there was no associates to be seen they were all at the register huddled up gossiping ignoring customers . I saw an associate (Olivia) who was the only associate on the floor asking if customers needed help with anything . She was with a customer for about 3 minutes after I asked her if she could help me find a product and she didn't know exactly what I was looking for so she asked a associate who was walking to the back of the store and the associate was just rude . As I was going to check out there was no line but there was 3 girls one of them was (Tashala the other was Damara and there was another Caucasian lady with colored highlights in her dirty blonde hair wearing a gray dress ) . I thought the lady with colored highlights was a customer because she was shopping around and on her phone she also didn't have a name tag . As I'm waiting to be checked out neither of the ladies acknowledge me and I was right in from of them they all talked for about 3 minutes while I waited there . Then another associate with long black hair in a pony tail I couldn't tell if it was a male or female they had a really deep voice , the associate approached the other 3 associates at the register right in front of me to start gossiping with them . After they stopped talking the cashier rang me out and didn't even ask if I found everything alright or apologized for making me wait while they were just talking .
