Very poor dry haircut, my hair is uneven & choppy. No shampoo, no blow dry at my request; I wasn't feeling well. I was charged $47.00 .

So I'll start this off by saying my stylist was very nice, personable and pleasant to talk to BUT I RECIEVED THE WORST HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE. I went in today with an appointment with Evan- asking for a shoulder length, layered cut. I was under the impression this was no issue, and never under the impression he was not familiar with cutting women's hair (assuming since he's working at an Ulta salon) I told him that I wear my hair straight, and that because of this wanted dimension to my hair by adding layers. After he cuts my hair he tells me he's going to curl my hair so I can see the layers better.... (I'm assuming to hide how the cut actually turned out) and when curled it actually didn't look terrible. After getting into my car and parting my hair correctly I start feeling through my hair and notice strands substantially longer than the others, which sends me into a panic. I get home and straighten my hair, behold this BOTCHED hair cut, NOT layered but literally cut into two UNEVEN levels. I am mortified I had to pay $55+ tip, more so that I have to walk around with this hair until I can find someone to fix it, as if I don't have enough anxiety with hair cuts as it is. Beware, do NOT go to Evan at Ulta if you're looking for even, flowing layers in your hair :( read more

I have never, never had such a bad experience as going to this salon. It was New Year Eve and I thought with the prices that I would get a good cut and style. First of all I showed the stylist a picture of how my hair was done before and that was what I wanted. She made a disaster of my hair and when I saw it I only had 15 minutes to get to rehearsal. I told her that it was wrong and she tried to fix it by what she thought was another layer , but she chopped up my hair. I couldn't have been more clear. Secondly I paid for a cut, blow out and a hot iron curl, which she did none of. She only cut my hair, put me under a dryer, which did not completely dry my hair and then put in a new product that made my hair look dry and frizzy. I sent an email to corporate and their only response was to text me via bot and this went on for 3 days. I eventually had to call my bank. 132.00 dollars later I had a embarrassing hair style for New Year's Eve, she took 2 hours to cut it and scrunch it, it was worse than a beauty school. The second picture is of what she did to my hair and the first photo is what I showed her and what I had been done previously with my usual stylist. Quite the difference. DON'T GO THERE. read more

I really hate coming here. Look, I know I'm not a teenager or a college student. And I know that I'm wearing Jean's and a t-shirt and not a bit of make up. But it should not matter one bit. Someone should just politely ask, "Hey, can I help you with something?" Every time I come to Ulta I feel like I stepped into Mean Girls. This review is about the salon, not the store itself: I've been so tired of paying $75+ at a salon for just a freaking haircut, so I came to the Ulta salon on a recommendation from my roommate. I walked in on a Monday afternoon for a walk-in haircut appointment and was seen by Jessica. I showed her a picture of the length I wanted, which was just above my shoulders and explained the look I was going for. She intuitively knew what I wanted and cut and styled it just the way I liked it! I paid $38 for my haircut, which included a wash, cut and blowdry. I think it was a great price and am so pleased with the result! Oh, I also chatted with Jessica a bit about their busiest times. They're pretty booked on Mondays and on Fridays and Saturdays. Don't try to get a walk-in haircut on a Saturday because that just isn't going to happen. Also, there is no Wi-Fi or cell signal in the salon, which I find a tad inconvenient. If you have something bookmarked on Pinterest or Instagram to show your hairdresser how you want your haircut, you won't be able to get it to load. You have to actually have a screenshot or picture saved on your phone because the cell signal inside that store is just terrible. All in all, great haircuts at affordable prices! They are also a full service salon so you can get your hair colored, styled, nails done, etc. Just come mentally prepared for no cell signal. read more

Went in for a simple trim on my length and long layers with some simple face framing. Evan had no idea what he was doing from sectioning, cutting and blow drying - it seemed like it was his first time. He smacked me in the eye with my hair so hard my eye was watering for 20 minutes. It turned out completely uneven with blunt ends and wild long pieces sticking out. He did not even attempt the face framing. It was frizzy with a big bump in it, I could have blow dried it myself much better. Luckily another (female) stylist was able to fix it, but it took her an hour to do. We basically had to start from scratch. He should not be cutting women's hair if he is not properly trained. Very thankful for the fix, though, it looks how it should have looked in the first place. read more

Horrible customer service. I went to this store to pick up an online order and was completely ignored by the employees as I waited at the designated online pickup stand. The employee working the register left and went to the back of the store without acknowledging me. I had to get in line just to have to walk back over to the online pickup counter to be serviced. I just made a purchase at the Newberry Road Gainesville Florida location. I have not worn makeup in 3 years and am a first time customer. The girl at the register tried to get me to sign up for rewards. After multiple attempts with me saying no she td me if I did not sign up I could not return the product. I almost walked away without buying anything. Buy I had spent a good deal of time picking everything out and the girl on the floor had been so kind and helpful that I went ahead and made the purchase. When I got to the car I checked my receipt and it says 60 days to return with receipt. The cashier FLAT OUT LIED TO MY FACE. I am not a happy customer and do NOT appreciate strong arm tactics to sign up for a loyalty program. read more

She was nervous about meeting my parents for the first time that day and didn't know how to approach anyone so I just straight up told them that my girl has a hickey and is worried about looking like a Harlet In front of my mom and pops. There are Ulta employees that shouldn't be there. But Ulta is responsible for it's employees. I went to get my hair colored, brought photos, and the girl doing my hair didn't come close to what I wanted or what was in the photos, after spending six hours in the salón with her. She charged me full price, and then said I needed to come back for her to do my hair the way I wanted, and it would be full price again. I went to a different salon, and for less than half of what she charged me, they colored my hair exactly how I wanted in less than an hour. ULTA has terrible customer service. read more

Don't get me wrong I love Ulta. They carry a lot of brands you can find at Sephora and usually give really good deals on makeup brands I love. The location is perfect (right next to DSW) and gives me the opportunity to browse and try new makeup. The store associates are so friendly and I always ask them for honest advice when it comes to buying makeup. However, the reason I am giving Ulta 3 stars is because of the prices. I understand certain makeup brands are priced because of the quality. Yet, I feel like many of the less known makeup brands are expensive, even if it's travel sized. I have also seen this with their hair, body, and facial care products. The prices for these items were cheaper and in a larger quantity at Walmart, Publix, and Target. If you want to get quality makeup brands, I would suggest going to Ulta since it will contribute to your points especially if you are a rewards member. However, I would buy my personal hygiene items elsewhere. read more

My visit to Ulta was a great one thanks to the cashier, Carlos. I entered while on lunch and knew exactly what I wanted. I was greeted with smiles and, thankfully, was not bothered since I was going in for just one item. The concealer I was looking for was on display right at the front. This made the trip so much more efficient! I went to wait in line and a woman walked into the store, made eye contact with me as if she was acknowledging I was in line, but then proceeded to walk up to the counter as if to skip me. I am not one to complain much (unless its terrible food or service) and especially since rude people are everywhere, but Carlos handled this awkward situation for me before I could even say a word. He let the woman know very kindly that "ma'am that woman is line (pointing to me)." She said ok but she was just here to make a return and he continued to say fine, but the line is still behind her (aka me). I was so appreciative of him in that moment! I walked up to him, thanked him, paid and went about my business. So shout out to Carlos for being a boss and advocating for his customers!! read more

I had a horrible experience at a different salon back home and for years after that I just cut my own hair, but I took a chance at the ULTA salon because my roommate had her hair dyed by Grace and I was so shook, and I really wanted some change! I have been going to Ulta Beauty since they opened in Gainesville. Their selection of products is outstanding. I am only giving them one star because of an issue I have had with two clerks at the register while I was paying for my product. Both times the cashier asked for my phone number and I declined saying I was not part of their reward program. The cashier, the most recent one was named Alyssa, told me I could not return anything without my phone number. I told them that was probably not true. After the first time I was told this, I went home and looked up their website. This is what it said: "Product(s) returned within 60 days of the original purchase that include the original receipt (or can be verified in our system using your Ultamate Rewards member ID), will be fully refunded via the original form of payment." It clearly states with original receipt. The second time I went, Alyssa told me their policy was no refund without my phone number. I told her that wasn't true and that she should look up their website and see what it says. She said I was wrong and there was no return without my phone number. This is a marketing tactic. Give us your phone number and we can bombard you with texts and sales. This is an invasion of privacy to customers who aren't resourceful enough to check the validity of what your representatives tell them. You need to train your staff better and inform them of what your policy actually is. Florida law states: Retailers that don't offer refunds must clearly display this fact at the place of sale. Failing this requirement, customers may return goods for a full refund within 20 days of purchase. Not trying to be petty, just trying to teach you what you should teach your staff. DO NOT GO IF YOU VALUE YOUR HAIR!!! I had the worst experience I have ever had in a salon in the Ulta salon last week. I scheduled a gloss, something to brighten and tone my already bleach blonde hair. I had an appointment with Melissa, who was running late when I got there (no problem, I wasn't in a huge rush). She proceeded to essentially dye my hair BROWN, and claim that it was still light blonde. She then tried to fix her mistake by putting color remover in my hair multiple times, which completely fried my hair. She ended up refusing to complete my service (saying that I was late and rude, though I called telling them I was running late but I walked in at 2:01 for a 2:00 apt) so someone else had to step in and attempt clean up her mess. The managers apologized profusely, did not charge me for the services, and offered to have me come in and have them try and fix it for free. I left the salon with orange brown hair that felt like hay that was falling and breaking off my head whenever I touched it. My hair is now a color I have never had it and that I hate, and is so damaged that I can't do anything to fix it. I can no longer wear my hair down bc it is so damaged, and I feel self conscious all the time and not like myself at all. It took calling 5 times on Sunday for them to even tell me what they used in my hair. They claimed the first 4 times that they could not tell me because Melissa was not there, so they didn't know what she used, and they also could not tell me when she was working (they claimed company policy, but how are you supposed to make an appointment with someone without knowing when they work?) so I could call back and ask. The 5th time I called, Melissa was miraculously there and the manager was able to tell me what she used in my hair, which leads me to believe she was there all day and they are simply not telling me what damaging chemicals they put in my hair. I have now spent large sums of money trying to fix this mess, with no luck. The new hair salon I went to said it will take months at the least for my hair to recover- needless to say, WORST experience ever. read more

I am absolutely in love with the salon and Ulta, and specifically cannot rave enough about Melissa! I had never been the type of person who had one person who cut their hair. I always just went to whoever was most convenient. That all stopped when my hair was completely screwed up by a stylist, it was a balyage gone wrong and was bleached all over and when I was clearly upset by the result the stylist had little to no explanation of what could be done to fix it, and I felt pretty dismissed. I came to Ulta to get it fixed and met with Melissa, who completely changed my world! She was so understanding and helpful and turned my terrifying hair into something I absolutely love! I continue to trust her COMPLETELY and cannot recommend her highly enough. So talented! Feel so thankful to be able to put my hair in her hands, she's the best! read more

If you have curly hair, you need to see Sage! I've lived in Gainesville for about ten years now and have always struggled with finding someone who could cut and style my hair correctly. Too often, I've found that hairdressers aren't used to my curl pattern and don't do much with it, leaving me with flat, dull hair. I went to get my hair cut this weekend at the salon at Ulta for the first time, which is where I met the beautiful curly hair wizard that is Sage. She took her time asking me about my hair, what I was interested in doing with it, how I take care of it, what products I used, etc. She gave me incredible advice and recommendations while making me feel super comfortable with everything we ended up doing. I chopped off a ton of my hair and I've never felt so cute! She gave me a haircut that complimented my curls and is also a super versatile so I can style it multiple ways. I'm so grateful to Sage, and I'll definitely keep coming back! I've shopped a lot at Ulta, but I've never been back to the salon before. I'm so glad I finally did. I was looking around at what some of the other hairdressers were doing, and I was really, really impressed. Lots of fun and modern styles and dye jobs. The Ulta sales assistants were very helpful except for the Clinique person. She was applying lipstick when her colleague referred me to her for help. She turned and said she'd be with me then continued to slowly apply her lipstick. (They'd been open 30 mins it's not as if I showed up before she was ready or should have been either way!) I waited and watched for at least 30 seconds but decided to move on. I would have purchased a Clinique item. I only needed a second of her attention. read more

I am writing this review for the salon at Ulta. I have had my hair done many times in my two years in Gainesville by the salon manager Gigi. Not only is she professional and attentive, but she is a fabulous hair stylist! Some of my best cuts and colors have come from her. I had extremely thick hair that went all the way to my back when she started with me. It took 2-3 hours to style it. She got me to the platinum blonde color I was looking for ("Elsa" hair) AND thinned it out enough that it now takes me 15-30 minutes to style it. She is truly a miracle worker and prides herself on making women feel beautiful. I recently moved to Texas and the one thing I miss the most from Gainesville is Gigi and what she was able to do with my hair!
