After 2 previous excellent experiences in sharpening my survival gear and steak knives, I decided…read moreto entrust them with my very expensive SHUN Japanese steel (VG-MAX, Damascus clad, Tsuchimee (hammered) blades w/ Pakkawood D-shaped handles) Kitchen knives. I dropped them off at the shop in the morning and they were ready for pickup in a half hour. Cost to sharpen is $6 each, regardless of blade length (so just $24 total). I took them home, washed them up in soapy water and tried them out. The blades pass cleanly through food items with little effort and no loss of juice. Be sure to use a solid wood (Maple, Beech, Teak or Walnut) cutting board, not bamboo, ceramic or glass! This was my first time having these blades professionally sharpened. Typically, I did it myself at home on a whetstone. I bought these knives back in 2015, and I thought that a professional job was long overdue (being correctly sharpened to a 16-degree angle). They have a decent selection but not a whole lot of one category. Not long ago I needed a knife sharpener and the sharpener company listed everywhere in town that carried it including this hardware store. I wasn't about to drive the other side of town to save a few dollars so I mentioned my dilemma to the man behind their counter. He happened to not only have it in stock but took a dollar off for me. Now that's how ma & pa stores work because I've been a true customer ever since. Recently hookah pipes have replaced normal hardware items at the front counter and I really don't get it. I was looking for hair for Marley twists in reddish/burgundy. They had plenty of options to choose from that were close to the style I wanted where as beauty max didn't. Luckily beauty max accepts returns (with receipt and unopened packages) so I'll be returning the hair I bought there. Archer Beauty doesn't do returns. Only exchanges and store credit. :/ Neither store had the "fawn" pro concealer that I wanted tho. (Most stores usually don't tho lol).
