I have been going into ULTA for many years. I have mature dry skin. I have noticed when asking questions to the YOUNG employees, they are more focused on selling you trending products from TikTok. Very disappointed. I end up spending more time using my phone to see if this product is good for my dry mature skin. I have been gonig more and more to Nordstrom or big box dept stores asking their mature professional employees for recommendations and get good service and honest service and then will ask about a product that an ULTA employee recommended and they are usally 99.9% telling me its not recommended for mature dry skin. ULTA please try to do better and educate your employees a bit better like it was 20-30 yrs ago. Not everyone is influenced by products trending on TikTok or other social media platforms. Had a touch up color done for $76 Had hair washed & then was asked if I wanted it dried for additional $45. I was like are you serious? NEVER in my life have I walked out of a salon paid $76 or left with wet hair after paying for such service. The stylist said I could sit under dryer & walked away. I started to dry but no brush or comb even offered, just was ridiculous & left. Then was told up front services are charged by each service. Maybe tell clients that ahead of time going forward. Customer service at this location is very poor. When I asked an employee for assistance, she responded with a dismissive 'what?' as if I were bothering her. I ordered a bottle of perfume. The package was shipped and it only contained the free samples of perfume that came with the purchase. I reached out to ULTA and they denied me any type of refund or re-shipment. I reached out several times to even find out if I could get some type of coupon or discount on a future purchase and it was denied. The customer service is awful. I'm out of $150 because someone chose to not put my product in the box. So ultimately someone stole from me and there is nothing I can do. My friends and I will never shop there again. read more

She was able to quickly help point me in the right direction and give a brief description for each of the products I was seeking as well as a few alternatives she personally suggested (I went with the suggestions). I promised my daughter a trip to Ulta this Friday and I'm so glad I kept my word! She and I were randomly greeted by Bianca that helped us shop and even discover new beauty items. She took the time to thoroughly explain all of the products we were interest in. She helped me discover a beautiful Buxom nude lip gloss (White Russian). I appreciate her patience and expertise while helping me find my perfect shade to achieve the look I was going for. We sampled several fragrances as well, she even went Above and Beyond by searching in the back for a Clinique fragrance (My Happy Peony Picnic) from the back that I had favorited and was hoping to purchase on this particular shopping trip. My 12 daughter was thrilled that Bianca was able to knowledgeably talk makeup and even help her find a few chap stick and Hello Kitty items that were preteen suitable. The sales rep Bianca superseded any expectation I could have ever expected by making sure that we both were fully satisfied that day at the store. Ulta always carries a great price range of products from high end to drug store prices. I'll preface this review with the fact that I love Ulta as a company. I shop with Ulta very often, both in-store and online, and I'm a Diamond-level member. But this specific location is the absolute worst. As soon as you walk into this store, you'll be constantly bombarded by sales associates asking if you need help finding anything. Which is a nice gesture, until you're being asked 6 times by 5 different sales associates in 10 minutes. (Yes, I kept track, and yes, one person asked me twice.) I shop this store for all my beauty needs. If you need it, they probably have it! The girls on the floor can be helpful... but not always. My last experience was wonderful however! The girl working in the Channel area really helped me figure out exactly which products would work best for me. I am extremely happy with my purchase. Be aware that this store will push you to try different products, but if you buy something get home and hate it they let you bring it back! Even after you tried it! And you can get something you want if equal value. I love that they do this!! Because sometimes you can't tell how you feel about a makeup product for several days. I have only gotten a facial here once but they did a fantastic job! I have never had my hair done here and can't really speak to that. This location is smaller than the other one. Every sales associate asked if I needed help. Everyone was nice and the store was laid out nicely for a guy visiting ULTA. Had a manager ring me out. Very easy to sign up for the rewards card. I was shopping in the area and decided to get my eyebrows done. Being my first time ever, I was extremely nervous. I looked for the nearest brow service and was surprised that ULTA offered this. I called and was able to make an appointment with Mia C. When I arrived everyone was friendly and Mia was amazing. She listened to my concerns and eased my worry about having too much brow taken off. She checked in throughout the process and asked me if I liked it or not and made the changes I wanted without hesitation. I have another appointment with her and even though the store is far (25 min drive), I am happy to do it. Don't think twice when booking with Mia, she's great! read more

This is a review for the salon. I get all of my beauty products from Ulta so I decided to try the salon. I called for an appointment for a no-chip manicure and they took me in right away. From beginning to end this appointment was disastrous. I will never return to an Ulta Salon. The manicurist was pleasant. This is not a review about her, but rather her technique and quality of the salon. First, a towel was laid on the table to begin the manicure. There was black hair all over the towel. It looked old and dirty. I kept my mouth shut because I did not want to start off on a bad note. The table was missing wheels and was wobbling. I could not event rest my hands on the table without it moving. She apologized however, ULTA, get a new table! It was so uncomfortable and awkward the entire time because it kept shifting and moving. The manicurist then started the process. She pushed my cuticles back but never trimmer them. I went for a manicure because my cuticles needed assistance. What she did, I could have done on my own. I then asked for my nails to be filed. Which she did, but there were 3 nails that I had to point out were very crooked when she was done. They were fixed when I brought it to her attention. After the cleaning process I was asked to go wash my hands. I was taken to a sink in the back next to the employee's coffee pot which had old, burnt coffee spilt all over the counter and a bag full of an employees lunch sitting on the counter as well. It was disgusting. When the painting started, I had to ask for another coat because the first 2 looked so spotty and uneven. To everything I asked, the manicurist obliged. However, I should have never had to ask for so many things. She missed spots in the side of my nails and started painting so far away from the cuticles it looks like I have a weeks worth of out growth the same day. At this point, I was so frustrated I just wanted to get out. When she finished painting, she never massaged my hands. Ok, so I asked for lotion because my hands were dry. She said they didn't have any lotion so instead she dabbed cuticle oil all over my hands and told me to rub it in. I was blown away. Now I have oil all over my hands which is going to get all over my clothes, jacket and purse. Horrible service, quality and unsanitary. I'm sorry to say I will Never return to an Ulta Salon. Very disappointed Ulta, I expected more and I wanted to like you! read more

I have been to many other Ulta locations for walk in hair cuts. Obviously the quality of the hair cut varies with each stylist but I had never before had a disastrous result...until I went to this location and had a cut by a stylist named Missy. I came in with a FULL head of hair, and asked to have everything shortened up, with the sides shorter than the top and and the middle MILDLY longer. After futzing around with sheers on the side for 20 minutes, she asked if she should just use clippers, to which I said yes, and to start at a #3 guard. She then completely shaved the sides of my head to my own dismay, and then spent TWO HOURS trying to blend in everything else. Check out the pic I've posted to see how horrifying the result was. I got to swatch, got helped while I was looking for something they thankfully had, and yeah, overall just felt normal again. I definitely felt watched, but least they did right, these things are unavoidable sadly but they didn't make it awkward like I didn't belong or they just knew I was going to run out with product. That whole sentence within itself is sad to say, but it's how it is. Stephanie there was sweet as ever! LOVE HER! Made me feel so much better and was knowledgeable and personable. Yes, I know Ulta is a chain. But the people who work at this store are AMAZING. I came in looking for a product to get my fake eyelashes off. They were supposed to last 3-5 days, and it'd been over two weeks. I struggled for hours at home with different oils and had zero luck with the few remaining. When I asked one of the guys in here about bond breaker, he asked a coworker, and before I knew it, a team of three people were personally helping me remove them! Absolute rockstars. They saved my week and saved my eyes. Their expertise with a variety of products and their ability to problem solve on the spot was incredible and I wouldn't hesitate to return for future makeup issues too! read more

As a Ulta member since 99' this was my third visit using the salon services to get highlights. I was extremely impressed and happy with the outcome of services that I wish I'd been taking advantage of the salon services years ago. I had recently switched hair dressers after 15 years and was very skeptical about going to someone new. Ulta seemed to have decent prices listed online. I made an appointment using their online booking system after reading reviews on here. Salon services also go towards being a rewards member points which has helped me get achieve platinum status. I downloaded the Ulta app to track my rewards. Eddy went above and beyond my expectations. My first visit I brought in pictures of color I was interested in to give him an idea of what I was looking to get done. He gave his opinion but also gave recommendations that were extremely reasonable. He was very professional and easy to work with. He jumped level status and gave me discount on my highlight services. I can't believe how horribly cramped this store is. They must be seriously violating some fire code because the aisles are barely wide enough to walk through. I had my bag from work and a small sack of groceries and I was knocking over shit right and left. Oopsie daisy.... Their selection of OPI nail polishes is excellent. They even had some new collections/colors. I will probably purchase a curling iron here down the road since their selection was huge (straighteners and blow dryers, too). Ulta pretty much sucks, although they have saved me a few times from having to go all the way downtown to Sephora. So for that, I am thankful. read more

I think I subscribe to 50 some odd magazines and half of them focus on beauty / health / womanly bits. Since I am a pretty easy promotional/advertising target (I never got into infomercials because I knew there would be no turning back!) I usually come to Ulta with a mission. THIS Ulta, although close to my abode, is in the middle of Best Buy's parking lot-o-hell. In other words, I must want something REALLY badly to shop here. As my boyfriend circled the parking lot of piranhas, I rushed into Ulta looking for Sue Devitt's facial mist (so refreshing - you must try!). I went up to the first sales associate I spotted and asked where the product was. *insert cricket noises here* After a few more blank stares, the saleslady says, "I've never heard of Sue Macs Debit. And I've worked here for nine years." A) She never got the name right after I pronounced it multiple times B) She never attempted to look for it at all C) I KNEW they had it because I, the little research bee that I am, saw it on-line. Thankfully, another Ulta associate was nearby. When sales lady number one repeated my request (incorrectly again), the second associate replied, "Sue Devitt. Yeah it's right there in front of you." No kidding. Nine years, huh? Looks like someone needs to re-ultafy herself. In the end, I had my product (but not after waiting in the longest line ever - only one cashier was working) and my boyfriend will never circle that parking lot for me again. Ever. Ulta is a GREAT store, but if you are in the North and Clybourn hood, head on over to Halsted. The staff and parking are worth the trip. read more

I blame the hotness of Christina Hendricks as Joan on 'Mad Men'. The girly adorability of Taylor Swift. The classic elegance of Audrey Hepburn... I want the perfect liquid-eyeliner pronto. There is a brand E Essence, apparently some kind of European Mass-mega-brand with German language packaging? Love it. They have an extra long-lasting Black Liquid Eyeliner Pen by that specific brand that is genius, cheap at $2.50 a pop- looks like a svelte Sharpie. This stuff is indestructible. It is Chicago weather-proof (Cold wind and snow), sweatproof (I wore thru an hour of pilates without it budging) Waterproof (Swam in a chlorinated pool, I have a mean backstroke) and this black did fade a bit thru all that but otherwise did not smear, crumble or drip. The dark winged line held it's retro on my eyelid and looked pretty darn good! Buy two or three (I did)! Also the salespeople are less b!tchy than those on Clark Street. I ask for samples and actually get them! Ahhh Customer Service, I thought I had lost you forever... Now I know where to go for my Stila. read more

The only thing I can say I don't like about this location is that the staff is very very very very very (etc...) annoying. They follow you and ask too many questions even after you tell them you are fine making choices by your self. It's nice to have someone around when you need them, but when you know exactly what you are looking for you don't really need someone else to make suggestions for you. I've waited over a year to write this review. I really love this store. I used to just shop here for cosmetics but now I come here for salon services as well. I used to go to the Aveda Institute to get my hair cut/colored because I only work part-time and don't have a lot of money to spend on my hair. I was always very satisfied with the service I received at Aveda but, let's face it, it is a school and the stylists are students. I never received a bad cut or color but after a while it began to wear on me how, I would get used to a stylist and then ... poof! ... she'd graduate and then I'd have to get used to someone else all over again. One day last summer (2014) I saw an ad on Facebook for "Frizz Free Fridays" at Ulta where you could get a free blowout. I made my appointment with Robbie for the following Friday. He is adorable and I enjoyed chatting with him as he did my hair. I explained how I was an Aveda customer and he reminded me that as an Ulta Rewards member (which I already was) I could earn points on services and that with my budget I could still afford hair services at Ulta. He hooked me up with Rosie and I have been ecstatic ever since! (BTW, Rosie has been promoted to Designer 2 recently ... yaaay, Rosie!) I love the way she colors, cuts, and styles my hair. She's really good at de-bulking my very thick hair. On around my 4th or 5th appointment with Rosie I noticed that Ulta was offering a special on a 3-pack of facials so I signed up. I had my first two appointments with Nina. I left there satisfied with how my face looked and felt but I didn't really connect with her on the same leverl as I did with Robbie and Rosie. Then she up and disappeared before I could get my last facial in the series. Ulta scrambled to find a new skin therapist to replace her and they found a true gem by the name of Amber. All I can say is ... AMBER ROCKS! I have been seeing her regularly for my skin therapy and she has blown Nina out of the water! First of all, she really gives you a scientific lesson on skin therapy as well as products for anti-aging, acne, etc. Plus, she told me I was entitled to freebies that Nina never gave me as part of the DERMALOGICA® Power Resurfacing Peel series that I purchased. Now I'm seeing her for a series of Dermaradiance Microdermabrasion sessions. I love the way my face feels when I leave her treatment room. It's never red and it's super smooth. The store employees are also very nice and helpful. If I'm looking for something on the shelf and it seems to be sold out they are more than happy to check in the stock room for me. Oh, and did I mention that I'm racking up mega-points on my Ulta Rewards membership??? I let the points pile up and use them to buy all the high-end Dermalogica products I need to maintain my skin as well as other cosmetics, hair- and nail-care items that I use regularly. read more

Needed some new makeup tips for the winter evening season upon us...so I thought I needed a professional to consult with. Yes, I thought of Nordstrom but I had limited time and needed easy parking. So Ulta on North Avenue it is! My nice, cutie make-up artist Johnathan told me of his recent move here from Texas so naturally I told him the first thing he needs to do is go out and buy some boots, gloves and a coat, STAT! He thought Chicago winters were a myth....what a sweet, sweet, naiive boy.... Back to the makeup....he did a nighttime smokey eye with browns. Pretty awesome since I ususally do greys for a smokey eye. The application was stellar and of course I needed the new hot thing, true red lipstick. Since I haven't worn lipstick for years, I forgot how hard it is to find the right shade especially RED. I picked out about 10 and Johnathan gave me honest opinions about all of them. I got some great new smokey eye tips and my first tube of red lipstick since 1995. Who knew good lipstick cost $23, now? read more

Why have I never been here before?! Holy cow. I thought Sephora was good but this place literally has everything. You can even get your hair cut here! That's probably the best thing about this place, I can come here and get my crappy boxed hair dye, then turn around and buy Bumble & Bumble shampoo. It has everything, from the cheapest to the nicest brands. One downfall though, is of course, it doesn't FEEL as nice as Sephora, but who cares. I also really liked this place because the employees just let me browse without constantly asking if I needed help. I hate being bombarded, and if you do too, you'll like it here. But the biggest bonus, for me at least, was the selection of nail polish, because I'm addicted to that stuff. They had Zoya, Butter, Essie, and OPI brands too, which was awesome! read more

I went to the store recently for the first time. The store had a couple of people in their salon area but the otherwise practically empty. I ran into a few employees that never acknowledged my existance. I usually like being left alone (not a needy shopper) but I was looking for particular items that I was having problems locating. Seems that their business has slowed down since Whole Foods moved - I suggest customer service improvements if you want more business. On the scale of cosmetic stores, Ulta is above your average drugstore, yet nowhere near Sephora. It's a good place to get Essie nailpolish and a variety of "only sold in salons" hair products, but shopping here is not a palatial experience. The employees often strike me as being immature and not really interested in helping customers. While we're on the subject, hey Ulta employees? Asking me multiple times if I want to sign up for your store card is NOT the way to rope me in. If the promotion was like Sephora's, maybe I'd do it, but it's not, so I won't. So there. read more
