This is a skiers ski shop, or boarder of course. The level of expertise of equipment they stock, and boot fitting is as good as you will ever find. It's hard to believe that when you walk out of the shop there isn't pine trees and snow. This is a resort quality shop in our Bay Area. I have never felt better taken care of in a ski shop. My ski boots have bothered my feet for years, made my toes go numb sometimes, and I was about to give up and buy new boots. Steve did a personal analysis of my boots and how they fit my feet and advised me that custom insoles would likely solve my issues because they would improve my foot's positioning in the boots when I skied. I've been an Uli customer for years. It's great to have a local shop, but expect a highly inconsistent in-store experience. Sometimes it's good, other times it's not. Literally, the worst customer service experience I have ever received in the three minutes I was willing to be in that store. My husband warned me about Merek (I think that's his name) but I thought come on they can't be that awful. My 21 year-old expert skier son and I walked in and the main boot fitter was the most condescending, rude, arrogant person I have ever encountered. I have been a ski patroller for 26 years, a ski instructor and know my way around a ski shop and ski equipment. After telling my son that they only do boot fitting appointments for custom boots. My son said he had an idea of what he wanted and just wanted to try some. The main boot fitter looked at him and said "you wouldn't begin to know what you want. What do you know about boot fitting? Are you a racer? Do you even know how a boots should fit??" He's splattered my son with questions, not even giving him a moment to answer or to tell the arrogant idiot that although he didn't know the model, he knows his foot dimensions, desired stiffness, loft, toe box and heel needs. He left both of us with our Jaws on the ground. Yes, we do know about boot fitting. My husband was a boot fitter. I am a ski patroller and my kids have lived on skies since they were two years old, as we lived in Tahoe for years. We might know what we're looking for. But after being told that they have 1200 boots and we couldn't possibly know what was right, we turned around and walked out. Your business might be good enough for all the affluent non-skiers in Marin but I will never send a person that knows what they're doing. crAAAZY OVERPRICED EQUIPMENT. RUDE / ARROGANT STAFF (or high school stoners who don't know anything) ....THEY TALK A BIG GAME DURING THE SALES PROCESS. NOT WORTH IT!!!!! After spending almost 5k, we had problems with the equipment while skiing. We brought it back to discuss. They were unpleasant and tried to talk us into spending more money as a solution. They charge you a $150 non refundable fee for a boot fitting. It goes towards the purchase of boots so if you aren't satisfied, you get a store credit. They don't display any prices or any boots at all and don't even tell you what they have in stock. All the guy did was bring out boots and watched me put them on and told me to stand in them for 10 minutes while he went and did other stuff. He gave me very few options and seemed frustrated that I kept saying they were too small. He reluctantly brought out a larger boot that fit better and said that was all he had. He finally told me they cost $700. Since my $150 was non refundable, I was stuck so bought them. There are much cheaper, high quality boots out there. My bad for expecting more from a $150 boot fitting where the guy basically just sat there. A total ripoff. I should have gone to Sports Basement or any other ski shop to see a full line of boots from multiple brands with prices displayed before trying anything on. I've shopped at Uli's before but this will be my last. The boots fit fine but I feel like I was taken advantage of since they already had my money. Also, I wished I had read the 1 star review from a month ago before going. The response from Steve, the owner, is incredibly obnoxious. Had I seen it, I never would've gone there. Uli never would have posted such an insulting message. And it's so true that the store is over run with teenage employees. Seemed more like a bro gathering than a professional ski shop. I went to Uli's yesterday to have have new custom insoles made for my ski boots which I bought at their shop several years ago. Matt discovered that my boots were a size too big and comped me a new pair, and most importantly, took the time and care in creating new insoles which now make my new boots feel like the most comfortable I have ever worn. I couldn't be more impressed with the time and concern he and his colleagues had for making sure the fit was the best it could be. Today I drove 45 minutes to Uli Seiler eager to talk to them about buying new skis and boots. They carry the brands I wanted, Stockli, Technica and Lange. Holy cow what a disastrous experience. This place was a circus. Crowded, chaotic and TINY. I walked around through the cluttered space happily looking to get support. Mainly I was hoping to buy some skis and then set up a boot appointment. If you're looking for THE rudest staff in the North Bay, go here. I can't remember the last time a sales associate had treated me more rudely. I literately had to walk out. Wow! Save yourself the aggravation and buy elsewhere. I am a retired doctor and very experienced skier. I went in today to inquire about ski boots. When I walked in, it felt like I was at a junior high school beer party (without the beer). There were teenagers everywhere. No one gave me any attention. I finally saw one tall teenager and asked him if he could help me with ski boots. He told me about a new rear entry boot for a while. He apparently loved to hear himself talk like an expert. I asked him if I could see the boot. He reluctantly got the box off the shelf so I could see it. He was cocky, lazy, rude, full of self-importance and dismissive. It was the worst encounter I have ever experienced in retail. I would have said something but I was so shocked at his behavior, I just left the store. My advice? Get rid of this cocky teenager. read more

If you want to get rude service for 3.5 hours and pay much more than you would elsewhere (and only get a price if you ask -- otherwise they won't tell you the price of the boots), then this is the place for you. They'll try to make it up to you with a free beer while you wait for someone to actually help you. If you're just looking to get some great new ski boots and don't have all afternoon on a weekday to spend, then I suggest you go to REI (or similar) instead. My new boots are a let-down -- they're fine, but nothing special. In my 3.5 hours at the place, I also heard several customers coming in for repeat boot fittings because the boots weren't working for them, only for the folks at the store to argue with the customers. read more

Wow! I couldn't believe how rudely we were treated. Stopped in to get equipment for my kids, as I received an email that they were having a sale, and was so rudely treated. I kept looking for some humor in the obnoxious behavior, but there was none. After he sized my daughter, he said her boots would be at least $1,000. And he basically wrote us off laughing on his way to work with another customer. I was shocked. So if this is the old fashioned way of service mentioned, then I feel sorry. Had bought some new ski boots in Whistler and even after several adjustments I was still with foot pain. Was about to just go back to my old boots until I met Steve, who after 2 hours of meticulously examining my feet and stance, got my Nordica's feeling amazing! If you ski a lot it's not the store for you. If you have a lot of money, well then it is. Unfortunately I have spent over 1000.00 on a pair of boots that, although fit great in the store, did not ski well for me. Because I am usually on the mountain, each adjustment requires me to come to Marin, and each adjustment costs at least 100.00. I ended up buying a new pair of boots at Starthaus in Truckee and all adjustments are free for the year. I feel duped. Olympic Bootworks, Granite Chief, Starthaus. Those are the best places to buy boots IMHO. I'll be lucky if I can get a few hundred on consignment for a pair of boots I bought at Uli last March and skied on 12-14 times and 4 trips to the store for additional ($) adjustments to no avail. They were never right, and they never were going to be right. read more

What a great shop, knowledgeable staff, and incredible service! A little slice of skier heaven in Marin. I'm 24-hours away from leaving for a ski trip to Zermatt and realized one of my boots was missing an ankle rivet making the boot unsafe to ski on. I called and spoke with Matt and he hunted down the part I needed there in the shop. I went in and they fixed it for me right on the spot for $20. Everyone in the shop was super nice and helpful. I know where I'll be going for my next pair of ski boots (they also have a huge selection of ski clothing and accessories). Truly it seems that the negative reviews were for a different place. Holy moly what a let down. For 2 months I was excited for the big "ski boot custom fitting" appointment. For the hour I was there, the guy only interacted with me for some of the time and was mostly running around doing other things. When he did come over with a new boot, one was clearly a bit off and too large. The only other alternative he offered felt extremely narrow and was a full 10mm shorter than my current boots that were from a custom fitting appointment from Mountain West back in the days and fit pretty well. The entire time there were very little explanations about what he wants to customize or why he chose those particular boots. When I told him I'm not sure, he said "then keep wearing your current boots until you die" (yes :)). I was basically forced to pay for the ski socks he gave me to try. By the way, apparently the original owner Uli does not own the shop anymore. I'm a good skier, left offended and very very disappointed. read more

If you aren't going to Uli Seiler you are doing it wrong. Great shop, great gear and most importantly great people. I've been coming to this shop for as long as I can remember, and every time I get expert advice from local people. The boot fitters go the extra mile to fit even my frankenfeet (staying open late on a Saturday before a big trip to punch my Dynafits), which is saying a lot. Also, if you are a backcountry skier and need a place where fitters understand the specific demands of AT, this is the only place in Marin for you. I am an avid skier and live for winter and downhill skiing. I live in San Leandro. It's hard to find a ski shop that really knows what they are talking about and what they are doing. I was in desperate need of boots and have never had boots fit properly. I have a high arch and wide feet so boots have often been too long. I can't tell you how many times I've had bruised toes and toe nails. After a season of custom fitted boots from Uli Seiler, I can't express how happy I am. I've had ski mounts and tunes since. No one does better work than them. They have great recommendations on mount points (which of course I've already researched) and are spot on. Will not take my gear anywhere else! I've never bought skiis from them but research skiis religiously. They have ALL the good skiis and are really great at complimenting each skier with a ski. Everyone is helpful but Paul went above & beyond by making suggestions on replacing my old skis with new ones. Follow up review edit: after two days of skiing, the boot work is proving to be effective. I can feel added space in the boot and my big toe is not jamming into the front of the boot. Nicely done Ray! Found via Yelp, I had a few "must do" things and am really particular where ski, boot and bindings are concerned. I walked in and spoke to Ray about my needs and timing. Through our conversation I was convinced that my equipment and boot work would be handled by a knowledgeable pro. This is a customer service oriented business. If you have basic needs just walk in. If you have need to do some boot fitting and adjustment make an appointment. My work entailed some stretching and grinding of one boot. My big toe was jamming into the front of the shell. Ray checked the shell size, liner fit, sock type. My boots are the correct size but needed a little work to gain a few millimeters of space. I have had this type of work done previously and Ray explained how plastic shaping requires a certain amount of heat to maintain a stretch. He does the work himself. In the end, he stretched the liner, did some grinding on the footbed and recommended a thinner sock. I don't consider this a sure fix. If it doesn't work out, I know what to do based on his advice. We also bought bindings and had them mounted on skis we brought in. Fair prices. read more

Went here on a recommendation from a friend to purchase/get boots fitted and get my skis mounted. This was a first set of ski equipment I've purchased to use myself and was slightly unaware of the process. Steve was so nice to work with and made me feel like I was making a quality investment. Although I tried to get there as soon as possible coming from work in Santa Rosa, Steve made sure I left with comfortable boots that night and the skis were mounted next day. Such a great shop. Amazing ski shop!! best place to get boots fitted in the bay area. They squeezed me in late on a Friday and the owner Mike spent over 2 hours getting my boots fit perfectly with custom insoles and heat forming the liner, even staying after closing time to get it finished. It is clear that they have lot of experience and care is taken with each step of the process and the prices are no different than the big box stores. After I used the boots for a weekend there where a few spots that rubbed so I took the boots back and they modified them for free. Now they are perfect and I plan to use them for many years! read more
