Steve did a personal analysis of my boots and how they fit my feet and advised me that custom insoles would likely solve my issues because they would improve my foot's positioning in the boots when I skied. It's more convenient to pick up skis at home and take them straight to the mountain than waiting with a kid to rent and miss time on the slopes. I was unsure about buying a pair of boots and he let me rent the boots and offered some cash back to buy them once I returned if I liked them. I didn't like the boots because of an ankle issue I have, but he knew which boots to recommend AND that they would fit the old bindings on my skis better anyway. I walked away happy. Special kudos to Chris who was super patient with my kid during a very busy day.

A different kind of review…read more I visited Tim's shop to seek a fix on my snowboard for a couple of core shots that happened early season. I'm someone who keeps their boards for a long time, but this year was the year I happened to upgrade. I brought in my new Burton Custom to see if Tim's shop could take on the fixes. I was pretty bummed out, and I knew I needed to take care of filling these core shots if I wanted to keep this board like my other ones for many years. Tim graciously inquired, "have you done any kind of repair work on your boards before?" I said I have not. He then was very encouraging and said I should try and do the work. It is labor intensive, and I could learn for future repairs. I ride trees and backcountry a lot. Tim then told me what to buy and hooked me up with metal grind and p-tex for free. Well, after a few YouTube videos and buying my own tune kit, I finished the repairs and tune today and it turned out so good! Even though I didn't get anything serviced at Tim's shop, he was cool and "taught me how to fish." I could have spent the same amount of money to get it fixed at Tim's shop or other, but now I learned a life long skill that is in an industry I love so much. Tim's shop was super busy with tunes and fixes, and I'm sure that's part of the reason he was encouraging for me to take on doing the work. But ultimately, I think he saw someone who is passionate about snowboarding and could learn something really useful. Listened to the issues I was having it, busted out the screwdriver and diagnosed it on the spot, took it in for a fair price and got it back to me the day we agreed on looking absolutely pristine. And gosh the tune up job was almost too good, I was flying down the slopes, and even traversing catwalks it felt like it just wanted to go. Can't recommend this shop enough. Yes it's a bit more expensive than your big business spots but the peace of mind and clear care for your equipment is worth it to me personally. Will be coming back for all of my maintenance needs.

I picked up a pre-worn, stylish fleece from The North Face for $30 and felt that price was reasonable and returned home to tell my son he should check the place out for the sort of outdoor men's pants he likes. The array of offerings is not dissimilar from what one finds at REI, but on a much smaller scale. There's other outdoor stuff here too - including a proprietor with whom one can engage in for everything fishing related. Despite its size, the store features clothes for all ages and genders as well as outdoor equipment. Of course you could also ride around beautiful Tiburon too! Scott helped us get our bikes quickly to make sure we made our 1pm ferry (overall less than 20min), which we greatly appreciated. The shop is just around the corner from where you catch the ferry, so very convenient! The only thing negative which made me dock a star was that both Trek mountain bikes that we rented were in dire need of repair. My husband and I rent bikes often when we travel to places, and this was the first time we ever experienced renting bikes from an actual bike shop that were in bad condition (literally your whole job as a bike shop is to keep bikes in good condition to rent or sell, right?). Almost all the gears kept slipping, and on hilly trails like the ones on Angel Island, this made our bike ride difficult and bit frustrating. Only 3 out of the 21 gears worked properly, and they happened to be 3 high gears, so a few of the steeper inclines were brutal. We laughed it off and just accepted the harder leg workout (haha), but overall this was a bit disappointing. For the record, my husband and I are both athletes who bike, run, hike, and work out regularly, so if we were even having a tough time, I can't imagine what it would have been like for an average leisurely cyclist! So instead of taking the bikes out for 3+ hours, we returned them sooner since they were in such poor condition. Other than that, we still enjoyed exploring Tiburon and Angel Island for the first time on 2 wheels! If you rent here, hopefully your bikes will be in much better condition than ours were.

Sports Basement charges neither of these fees making Old Town more expensive. I wish I had just gone to Sports Basement. Sports Basement rents gear that is either current model year or max 2 years old with very knowledgeable employees and at the same or cheaper prices! I tried to support local, but I will not make that mistake again and will exclusively rent from Sports Basement.

Even after the purchase, they have been just as dialed in. Questions, adjustments, tune-ups, it is all handled with the same level of care and attention. I am an experienced road and mountain cyclist but didn't know much about how to think about choosing an e-bike for me. i just turned 76 and had been experimenting renting e-mountain bikes from Tam. Hella fun but a bit too heavy for me. they recommended I try a specialized Vado sl, and loved it. Half the weight of the mountain bike and can easily ride it around town and even lift it on my bike rack. Really appreciated their patience with and love the bike I ended up with. 5 stars all around! I will continue to rent the Specialized e-mountain bike from them. not willing to give it up yet!!!
