I've been buying and trading in my kids skis/boots here for years and renting my own gear. They are very knowledgeable about fit and willing to cut you a deal on a rental if you are traveling for say a week or so, but only actually skiing one or two days. It's more convenient to pick up skis at home and take them straight to the mountain than waiting with a kid to rent and miss time on the slopes. I was unsure about buying a pair of boots and he let me rent the boots and offered some cash back to buy them once I returned if I liked them. I didn't like the boots because of an ankle issue I have, but he knew which boots to recommend AND that they would fit the old bindings on my skis better anyway. I walked away happy. I have been to quite a few ski sports stores both for new and used gear and this may have been the most surprising and helpful experiences I've had. Went in with an issue that couldn't be resolved for under $600 from any other sport shop and ended up not only fixing the issue but improving it for less than $350. That included skis boots bindings wax and remount for 2 separate pairs. Unbelievable service and very knowledgeable group. 20/10 would highly recommend read more

I'm an expert in downhill, but totally new to backcountry -- he was great to talk to about both and adjusted his advice based on my knowledge of each type of skiing. I had the unpleasant experience of buying Spark soft boot splitboard bindings from here that I needed to return still new in the box. I decided to go with a hard boot set up this year instead. First thing manager says to me after waiting 20min is that I can only get store credit. When I ask why, he just says that's how they do things at his store as he walks away from me. Reluctantly I decided to use my purchase as credit for some old stock 22/23 hard boot bindings. Unfortunately the manager didn't want to charge me the actual difference but decided and random amount of $100 which was more. Of course I wasn't happy with that and even stated the replacement bindings are 2 seasons old to which he states they are the same as this year's model so he can sell them as this year's. Not the type of owner I'd continue to do business with. At that point I simply took my original bindings and left. Ill give them as a gift to some family or friends. Honestly it wasn't even about the money, but rudeness that put me off. I make really good money, but because I am Asian shave my head and try not to dress in expensive/fancy clothes people can sometimes be dismissive. I'll let my money speak for itself and spend it somewhere else. I really wanted to support a small business, but will stick with the tried and true chains like REI and Backcountry for my future splitboarding and BC winter needs. Hard boot splitboarding is an expensive sport and I'm just happy I didn't sink more money at this store, especially since most of their gear is outdated. If you look at their website a lot of their gear is a 2-4 seasons old already. Should have been the first RED FLAG. Unfortunately after scouring the website I can not find any information in regards to return policy which is another RED FLAG. However when you search google it states 30 days which I have included in the pictures. I am going report this to the BBB and disputing the charge with my credit card. Sadly if you are new to snow sports, this shop owner will probably take advantage of your ignorance or excitement to get started. I am still mostly upset with myself for not standing up for the young woman who was working alone with this horrible manager. He continually talked down to her and belittled her needlessly. The rest of the staff called out sick, which is not surprising when considering who is in charge. That woman was the only person with the resolve to come in and she was treated horribly. If she was my daughter I would not want her to work there and would not be upset if she simply walked out. I truthfully hope she doesn't stay there too long. read more

As someone who always prefers supporting local small business over big box stores, Demosport is my go-to. Super helpful staff that go above and beyond for their customers! If you have questions about gear of any kind, the owner Steve has a plethora of knowledge and a clear passion for the outdoors. There's a great selection of new top of the line gear, but for those with kids growing out of their skis all the time, Demosport has a ton of used affordable gear in great shape. Literally EVERYTHING is for sale in the shop, so if you want to buy your rental or demo gear you can. They put the first rental toward purchase thus essentially letting you test equipment for free. Even if the product you were looking for isn't in store, it's likely Steve can find a way to get you what you want! read more

I needed to rent a full ski set (skis/bindings, boots, poles) for my 8 year old. Called DemoSport on a day I didn't know they were closed. Still got a call back from the manager who was in the shop and saw the call to let me know what their open days/hours were and also to confirm that they would have everything I needed. Pretty awesome. We went in a couple of days later and worked with Calvin. He was fantastic. He took exceptional care of us and made sure everything was perfect, especially the fit of her ski boots. And Calvin was just really great in the way he interacted with my 8 year old. The young man working behind the counter was also really helpful as well. Of course I managed to drop an important document somewhere in their store as I was getting out my wallet, and when I drove back to look for it Calvin was again super helpful. I found it and all was well. My daughter had a fantastic time skiing and all her gear was comfy and worked perfectly. My wife handled returning the gear and said the shop was super-busy but everyone was helpful, friendly and got the drop-off taken care of with zero issues. We will be using DemoSort every season until my daughter is old enough (slowed down in growing) to keep her hear for more than single season. Thanks DemoSport! read more

Yes, they do sell skis & snowboards! But, they also have water sports equipment, bikes and skates, as well as all the services to go with whatever you buy. THE 42ND ANNUAL MARIN SKI & SNOWBOARD SALE & SWAP HAPPENS THIS WEEKEND - OCTOBER 20TH & 21ST AT DEMOSPORT. These guys are very knowledgeable about the sport equipment they sell. They also won't sell you something you don't need. By helping you enjoy your sport and making sure you have the right equipment ,they guarantee return customers. Makes sense to me. Too bad most shops haven't figured this out. Demo has . . . trot on down there if you need a new bike, or just a new helmet . . . . Or stop by the San Rafael store just to talk. They will be glad to help you determine the right skis, or bike, for your abilities. And they will sell it to you . . . . when you are ready to buy. They have a 2nd small "hole-in-the-wall" shop that rents bikes to tourists in Tiburon. It is only open from late spring through early fall - tourist season. read more

I like to give businesses and business people a little slack, in general, but particularly during these challenging times. After several (and I do mean several) bad experiences at this place, I feel compelled to forewarn future customers. The inventory there is great. Not cheap, by any stretch, but they carry good quality, high-end stuff. The problem starts at the top: the owner of this place is a scatter-brained guy who loves to charm you with his stock and spout his product knowledge (which is considerable...I'll give him that). Everything will seem hunky dory until he improperly mounts or installs something (which seems to happen more than it should), or if there is a return -- anything beyond a simple sale. That's when things go south. He'll blame the customer, blame and chastise his employees (most of whom are young, cool folks just trying to make enough cash to buy their lift tickets). I watched it with my own eyes and couldn't believe what I was seeing. The poor kid. We've been there a half-dozen times, and the poor customer service we've received from this guy has been mind-blowingly consistent. You might very well go in there and have a peachy conversation with the guy and wonder where this review was coming from. If nothing breaks, or if, by chance, everything was installed properly...you might never know. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars was because of the kids he has working there who understand how to treat customers and are knowledgeable about the products their selling. So...buyer beware. I have decided I'm gonna cross something off my bucket list this winter: I'm gonna learn how to snowboard. Yep, makin' the transition to Board sports, folks. Don't laugh. I'm gonna be flying past you on the slopes and have you eating my snow dust if you talk too much sh**. Just bought a helmet, board, boots, and bindings at the annual Ski and Snowboard sale and swap- for a bit under $400. The Luna board was only $75 and will look brand new after a good waxing. Bought brand new bindings on sale for 30% off - spent less than $200 for pretty much a brand new set up (board and bindings)! My Solomon boots are barely worn and I got them from their used section, so like any of their used equipment, if at any time in the future I want to turn them in, they'll let me! Their staff is super knowledgeable and accommodating, too and they're more than willing to spend some time with you answering your questions. And, they're not just gonna sell you the most expensive option but, rather point you in the direction of the right gear that works for whatever level you're working with. What a steal! Tired of the impersonality of those big sporting goods chains? Want to support small businesses in Marin County? DemoSport is an example of why smaller is better. I've known DemoSport was in San Rafael for years because we used to rent my kids' skis from them. I just hadn't been back for a while. At the end of this last summer, I stopped by to look at their stand up paddleboard inventory and they happened to have exactly the board I wanted. They had me at "Hello, here are our SUP boards". Long story short - I bought the paddleboard, paddle, and rack for my car, but it doesn't end there. Steve, the owner, spent a lot of time with me and described the different paddleboard technologies, trends, brands and paddling techniques. He personally found the right car rack in the catalog, and discounted the board, paddle, rack and labor. He invited me to his paddleboard clinic (with my new board) the following Wednesday, and he hosted a fantastic paddle on a beautiful warm sunny morning. He showed me how to attach the fins to the board, lift the paddleboard onto the car and how to tie a paddleboard down to the rack. He delivered the paddleboard to my house (since I didn't have the rack yet) and showed me how the wash it down. When my car rack came in, he and Greg (his assistant) installed it on one of the busiest days of their year. Does REI do this? I think not. I went back a few weeks later, and bought a new pair of downhill skis and poles, at a great price, discounted from retail. DemoSport's inventory is first rate, and the personal service by the owner and staff is even better. This is exactly the kind of business that is perfect for San Rafael. read more

Awesome professional staff, knew his product very well, and hooked up some extra hardware (again, Burton used to sell it, but now doesn't...) My only regret is I can't visit the shop in person to drop of a six'er of go fast juice. I broke the highbacks on my Burton C60s. Burton used to sell the team skyback separately, but then they "went all corporate" again... At any rate, I found that Demo Sport had one of the last sets on the internet. I found DemoSport online as I was searching for a pair of skis. Stephen was friendly, patient and knowledgeable about the skis I was looking for. After speaking to him for a bit, checking his reviews and comparing to other sources I decided to go with DemoSport. They recommended a great pair of bindings to mount on the skis and gave me a fair deal. I let Stephen know I was taking a trip to Mammoth the next weekend and he made sure I received the skis in plenty of time. Thalia was also helpful in keeping me informed as to the status of the shipment. All in all this was a very positive transaction. I like this place a lot. I got a paddleboard groupon deal and from start to finish, they were excellent! When I first called a month before to make the appointment, the woman took down my information and told me the usual guy who teaches, Steve, was on a trip and would call me back to confirm preferred dates. Sure enough, Steve called and told me recommended dates due to the tide and weather conditions. Steve was thorough, helpful, and thoughtful the entire call. He called again the day before to confirm/remind us about the paddleboard clinic. The weather was gorgeous today and Steve was very patient in explaining the history, techniques, and ways to paddle. He read the wind and weather, proving to be an excellent guide as he maneuvered us around obstacles. On paddleboarding-- I couldn't help but think this would be an excellent group, even date, activity! Think about it-- the macho man is showing off his balancing skills and then falls in because he's trying to impress/help the girl too much. Just a thought. Wink. I highly recommend paddleboarding if you like a relaxing activity that will work out your core and firm your abs at the same time. Go with Steve who's like the father you've never had! read more

My first experience with the store wasn't excellent. We had bought a scooter for our son and some mistakes were made in the selling process plus the scooter wasn't performing, especially for the price we paid. I went back, prepared for a confrontation, return, etc. I stayed in the store for about 30 minutes talking with all the employees (and the owner). I received great customer service, everything was explained, they apologized, plus they tightened up all the bolts on the scooter and explained how to do it for future reference. I got some free tools and swag to make up for my first bad experience. So all in all, I had a really good experience the second time, and my son is super happy with his scooter. I was fortunate enough to have blindly found their website while googling for what I wanted. I'm glad I called them on the phone since they confirmed exactly what I was looking for in regards to size and colorway. The entire staff is remarkable and came thru for me. My package wasn't were it was supposed to be when UPS claimed to have delivered the goods (2 Jones Hovies!) They all were very helpful and understanding of my situation. This owner is an absolute asshole. After making us wait for over an hour (and countless other customers) he became unhinged over my kids (4 & 6) bringing mud into the store (which only occurred because he's making everyone wait outside). We had the ski boots on outside to try and shorten the wait for everyone else (since they make no attempts to mitigate the wait). He then went on a profanity laced tirade (he didn't know I could hear it - he's a coward) over literally steps of mud that came up easily. It was perhaps the most disgusting display of customer service I've ever seen and I've seen some real doozies. The way he spoke to my wife after we spent thousands on this store earlier in the month was truly so heinous I still cannot believe it actually happened. We were only here because they recommended we come back to check the fit on everything we bought (4 boots and 4 skis). I will literately make it my hobby to inform the locals in my neighborhood about the conduct of this trash store. Go to sports basement and NEVER look back. No line. No wait. Better pricing. So, I went there with my son who broke his bearings and McGinnis and needed new spacers. We waited 10 mins to get in, like everyone else. After about 5 mins of trying to find the correct size spacer, the employee started to tap his fingers, letting us know we were taking too long. Finally he told my son to just grab a couple different sizes and go, because he didn't want to miss out on a potential sale, referring to the 2 other pair of people waiting to come in. If there was a different shop to go to I would have. I will never go there again, and bother that store with a worthless purchase. read more

Be very careful about what you buy from this place. I purchased 3 pairs of brand new ski boots and one pair was sold 2 sizes too large. Some custom fit, eh? Prices for skiis are not great either. Steve is The Best. Based upon a recommendation from my borther-in-law, who purchased all of his ski equiptment from him last year, I went for a visit. I've started skiing again regularly and wanted to own my own equiptment again. Steve set me up with a one year old set of skiis that are top of the line and boots (also one year old) that are incrediblty comfortable. He promised that if I wished to exchange either set of skis or boots, that he would give me full value minus $100 up to the end of February. His service was excellent, his pricing, very, very fair. I highly recommend whether one is a novice, intermediate (like me) or advanced skier, that you stop by and see his selctions, prices, and take advanctage of his excellent service. read more
