Uber is a massive pain. During the day prices are sky high and late at night it's nearly impossible to get a ride in a timely fashion. I work the graveyard shift and buses aren't running late because of COVID. Lately I've tried hailing uber lifts to work but I've been late 3 times in the last two weeks due to drivers canceling and wait times that exceed 40 minutes. If I could give Uber a negative rating I would. The drivers are very nice but the scam the company is operating by is unacceptable. On two occasions now I have been charged an additional fee after the ride. On the first occasion a driver picked me up to go to the airport and we had to stop for gas. Uber, after I rated and tipped the driver l, charged me an surcharge for time and traffic. Had the driver not stopped for gas we would not have sat in traffic because we would have beaten rush hour and taken less time. I filed a complaint and never got a response and ate 30 extra bucks to the airport. The second incident with Uber was when I left my keys in the Uber I had just taken. The driver informed me he would come back when he was nearby. I gave him 10 dollars cash as a thank you which was the same price as my fare earlier that morning. Uber then charged me an additional 15 dollars without my permission which I am sure will not go to the driver. Needless to say, I have deleted the app and would not trust the company as they neither care about their drivers nor their customers. Their is no easy way to make a complaint even though they tell you to contact Arnold. Arnold conveniently has no email, phone number or other means of being reached and probably does not exist. My last Uber ride had a computer screen with "Uber TV" on the back of the seat that was directly in front of my face. It was distracting and irritating. Even in the sleep mode it had a pulsating image directly front of me. Ugh. read more

This is one of the most incompetent and dishonest companies I've ever dealt with. There was an unauthorized charge on my account for a ride I did not request or take. I knew nothing of it until I saw that I was charged thanks to text notifications from my bank. They make it very hard to contact any staff in support but when I finally did they acknowledged it was an unauthorized charge and refunded me. To be safe I removed my payment method until I could change all my passwords. When I went back on the Uber app it says I now owe a balance for the same trip that they refunded me for. I've been back and forth with support all day and they keep coming back with "we are working to resolve this issue but it looks like you have a balance of $38.37 that paying will resolve this issue." THATS THE F'ING issue I'm coming to them about! Removing the balance because I do not owe it and support acknowledged I don't owe it. They are incompetent and I've taken my business to Lyft. Uber works well for a good while and then I guarantee you'll end up with this issue too. Do yourself a favor and steer cleer! read more

To hell with you, DC Taxi Commission. Like everything else that is associated with the District government, you're inefficient, corrupt, and devoid of any logic. If you can't stand the competition, then educate your drivers on HOW TO DRIVE PROPERLY, have them stop trying to gouge customers, and get them some vehicles that do not smell like piss, BO, and vomit. Uber does it right - no tips, fixed rate schedule, and no confusing surcharge items. Let's compare for a called taxi at any site with two passengers and going three miles in the District: DC Cab: $3.00 - Base Fare (first 1/6th mile) $1.00 - Fuel Surcharge $1.50 - Extra Passenger Charge $2.00 - Dispatch Fee $4.25 - 2 and 5/6th miles $2.00 - Tip Total: $13.75 - likely no AC/heat and a rundown old cab. Uber: $7.00 - Base Fare $9.75 - 3 miles Total: $16.75 - no tip as it's built into the rate. You also get to ride in Town Cars and Escalades. Don't forget the bottled water and candy. I wish there was a way to rate 0 stars. The concept of Uber is so fantastic, the reality is a sham. I paid $244 for a ride from the Verizon Center to Woodbridge. I did my homework before deciding to use Uber - I estimated the fare a couple days before and it said $36-$49 door to door (a fact that I confirmed after being charged the outrageous price). However, the base fare somehow became $101 and then Uber charged 2.4x surge pricing after a concert the night I needed the ride. While I accepted the surge - the % and base fare was never displayed. Because I thought I did my homework and the original fare was less than $50 - I figured it couldn't be that bad. Boy, I was wrong on so many levels. I also find it amazing that if demand was that high, I would have waited longer - the driver picked me up in 6mins. I complained to customer service and basically was told - I accepted the surge pricing so Uber would not provide any refund. And if they didn't have it in place that I would have been left stranded. Great explanation, fear mongering is an effective tactic. That would have been a good thing - a cab or hotel would have been cheaper. I requested additional support, including a number to call, and received no feedback. The only way to communicate with them is through an online form. No email address, no phone number - nothing. Ridiculous and horrible customer service! Social media is next, but I'm sure the arrogance of the company will simply ignore me. I am by no means an expert in using Uber, only a couple times in Chicago. But I shouldn't have to be to understand it and not be charged an outrageous fare. Their business should be more transparent and even newbies like me should understand the fares. I will never use it again. After landing in BWI on New Year's Eve and our ride fell through , my daughter suggested uber . Within 5 minutes a wonderful driver arrived with a van who could hold all of our family's holiday luggage and then we were off ! I like uber. :) Saved me many times from running late to go somewhere. When a bad weather outside and but I really have to be somewhere asap. :) And by riding uber, I don't have to worry about finding a place to park and all that. Most of the time I experience good ride, clean cars, smells good, enjoy the refresher some drivers provide in their cars such a bottle of water, snack bars, candy. Even though sometimes I found nothing. :) which is totally fine, I know those thing cost. I met a lot of interesting driver, from grad students, ex military, professor to actors, film director and screenwriter for sitcom who does it as their second income. And a few I met even proudly says being an uber driver is their career. One of them that give me that straight answer and said it proud, use to work as an executive assistant for persecutor office in DC. They tell me their story. Some just do it for additional money, some says as their main income. I think Uber is definitely a brilliant idea for business and a wonderful app. And people can still do what they love to do in life, keep being creative while their making their money through this business venture. Usually I get a good happy smiley driver, fun to converse with, but sometimes it was just an ok ride when the driver need to be focus on the road, which is fine. :) Regardless, I learn now to always give them 5 star rating. Unless if they are really make a big error by being rude or something. But most of the time, I overlooked it, especially if it is just a small error. I understand the rating system now. It's all or nothing. 5 Star is Excellent and 4 Star is consider bad by the Uber standard. And can cause the uber driver get kicked out from being a driver. In this non perfect world, from what I learned from the article and from the drivers it self 4 star rating is consider bad. So different than yelp rating. :) And can cause the uber driver to be fired. For some this could be their source of living not as a side job. So don't give them half rating, it is all or nothing! 5 Stars indeed! :) So dear fellow yelpers, please make sure to respect and show mercy for the people who drive you to your important destination, to save your late self to get in time to where you suppose to go, or save you from a bad weather outside. Especially when is bad thunderstorm and pouring rain outside, or during freezing cold snowstorm on the winter time, or when it is burning hot out in the summer day, when the night is dark and taxi is nowhere to be found, just a click away from the app button, your uber carriage is ready to pick you up. As a side note, apparently it is not only us as a rider to give rating to the driver, but they rate us too. Keep that in mind. And most of the time, they have a nicer car than the regular taxi cab. And, as it has been said : Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. There's a major bug in the Uber program that makes it completely unreliable and the company's customer service and ability to respond to problems is significantly limited. I had used Uber twice and was happy - definitely more costly than a taxi but I appreciated the convenience. I was planning on using the service to take my husband to the airport and added his corporate card to my account. I went to order a car and was informed my account was banned. I tried again. Banned. I was completely flummoxed - I'd had no communication at all from Uber that there were any problems. We had to get a taxi. In the rain. In DC. Amazingly, we got one but my husband almost missed his flight. Here's the rub - if you have *any* problem with Uber there is NO phone number to call. You have to submit a request online and it enters a black hole. I had to engage their customer service rep on Twitter to get any sort of insight into what the problem was. What's infuriating about this problem is that if your account is banned you don't know until you need to order a car. Only then, when you're relying on Uber to take you somewhere, do you learn that you have a problem. How is that reliable service or service you can depend on? Why is it so difficult for them to alert customers that there are problems with their account? Additionally I finally learned that the problem was the additional card I loaded was a pre-paid card. My original card was still on file so I'm also confused as to why an additional card that didn't qualify would negate my ENTIRE account. Their customer service rep was equally unresponsive, promising to pass my concerns along to their engineers. I wouldn't recommend relying on this company for your transportation needs. Ironically, they spammed my company today about Uber benefits trying to convince employees to ask for Uber perks. Ha. More Uber irony - according to their website, my account should never have been blocked: "Please note that Uber does not except any prepaid cards" And more - their DC customer service rep likes to post on her personal Twitter account of her hatred for Georgetown. read more

You get what you pay for. I experienced the worst taxi ride ever with a colleague of mine who ordered a Uber ride from Capitol Hill to Dulles. The driver was ill prepared intellectually and emotionally: upon leaving the city she misread her navigation device and turned to early and brought us back in the city. She blamed it on GPS...but it was so obvious we were heading back towards a giant obelisk in the middle of the city. Made some very erratic and reckless moves to get back out of the city. Throughout the drive on the highway she erred towards the next lane because she was nervous about being close to the divider. Didn't have a toll pass and had to swerve into the cash toll lane that only took quarters. She didn't have enough quarters and had to get some from us. While throwing the change she missed the basket with a couple quarters and then had to open the door to find them on the ground. Then, 15 miles from Dulles, with a quarter tank of gas, she said she needs to stop and get gas because she was worried about running out of fuel. Ok, I'm going to stop. Total rookie and dangerous. Really frustrating that the drivers aren't vetted better. There are lives at stake. read more

DC uber....what the hell? When I first started using this service it was stellar. I always had great drivers and great service. Now I have had at least 5 bad experinces which I will outline: 1. Driver arrived, pick me up, then talked about his problems with his wife for my 20 minute ride 2. I ordered a black car, and while the driver was very nice he seemed to have not noticed someone had vomited in his car, and I had now put my sleeve in said vomit. Most horrifying and disgusting thing ever, and also ruined my night because I had to have him turn the car around so I could change my shirt 3. Was told via app and driver that driver was only 4 minutes away, but 4 minutes turned into 30, and when I cancelled my trip uber charged me 5$ 4. Driver refused to come in through my apartments gate and made me walk through our community (which happens to be very large) to the front gate in the rain, then ended up being at the back/delivery gate on the opposite side of the community and continued to refuse to drive to me 5. Driver drove past me multiple times, and when I called him to tell him he was passing me, and if he stopped at a particular place we could complete the pick up. He told me to stop complaining and cancel my trip, and again I was charged 5$ for cancelling. I have used Uber for 3 years ever since it hit DC. It used to be a rock solid service, and I used it to go everywhere. Now I am pretty close to going back to using cabs or Lyft. I am not sure if starting UberX destroyed with service, or if it is something internal. Maybe it was the first cold chill my bearded face has felt in 11 months, but I was in a pretty cynical, ornery mood when it came to cabs in the 48 hours I was in DC, and Uber made the cab experience as calming as the rest of the trip. While I love sticking it to a cabby with exact change without a tip who demands cash and won't take a credit card, I hate getting in a cab to find out there aren't any rights as a customer in this situation. This situation as in when you look down the list of what's posted on a cab's window in D.C. it reads things like: luggage in trunk fee and if there's snow, there's a fee and mentions nothing of CC usage. Thus, when I discovered Uber has their taxi integration flowing through D.C., there would be a set of taxi drivers in this city that had my heart -- which was dead set on seeing the Lincoln Memorial at midnight. And the driver not only didn't flinch, but embraced the stop over rendezvous. As long as D.C.'s cab scene maintains its harsh stance toward credit and the rider's rights, Uber's taxi integration is going to be the exact anathema of the past that's necessary to nudge this industry into the future of safe, convenient and stream-lined service, with Uber. read more

Uber is obviously the biggest company but they don't screen their drivers as well as other companies. I'm more likely with Uber to have dirty, smelly cars, drivers who don't know how to use GPS, etc. That being said, they have a MUCH larger service area which is why I use them. The other ride sharing companies aren't nearly as large. read more

My husband and I were early adopters in NYC - when most people thought Uber was nothing more than an adjective. Fast forward - six years later - we've had an increasing number of headaches with Uber in the DC /NoVA area. UberX new hire drivers often don't know where they are going and/or have a hard time communicating/going the most efficient route, but that's cool. Given the high demand and the business model - hiring, onboarding and training can't be a priority. The worst issue has been Uber's existent but nonexistent pet policy. I have experienced drivers who behave unacceptably rude when I have my 10-pound small white dog with me. She is non-shedding, quiet, stays with me and never touches the vehicle when we need a ride - not even the car seat. I'm sensitive to people who don't like to have animals in their cars. Today, it took me FOUR Uber requests to get ONE driver who got the simple, take-you-from-A-to-B job done. Kudos to DC driver Odonbileg. The outcome is, I fell on ice and ran about 30 minutes late to my appointment - nearly missed it. The other Uber drivers: -Driver 1. Appeared to be 4 min. away and suddenly became 23 min. away. No communication. If I didn't check my phone I would have waited even longer and made it even later to my appointment -Driver 2. Got to my place okay and freaked out when he saw my little dog and I. He said dogs make him sick and then sped away. Okay. -Driver 3. Got to my place okay, then, got angry when he saw my little dog and I. I slipped on ice while reaching his car, fell right in front of his car - he did not even try to get out of his car to help. I couldn't care less about that, but after I got up, he started to lecture me about how its policy to not allow dogs. As a paying customer - three Ubers later - being lectured by an asshole driver was the last thing I needed to get from point A to B. Here's the "policy" on Uber's website, "We leave the decision whether or not to transport pets at the discretion of your driver. When traveling with a pet, we recommend calling your driver as soon as you've placed your request (tap the arrow next to your driver's information, then "CONTACT DRIVER") to make sure they don't mind taking your pet." As a management consultant, here is the free advice for Uber to stop wasting everybody's previous time: work with legal on an actually pet policy and train your drivers on how to communicate it to customers if they are going to be lecturing your customers. Lastly - how about when the driver accepts a request, in h/her profile section on the bottom of the screen where the customer sees the driver name/maker/license plate, we can also see if the driver is dog friendly, or not. In the city, more people have dogs / other pets than not, so yes, having a BS pet policy is a business problem for you. You will just have to add a field for pet preference on the same form drivers already have to fill out with their car info. read more

If I could rate uber a minus - 20 stars, I would. Uber customer support is bad news, difficult to deal with & no phone number provided to help with problems! I swing between being happy with uber and being super annoyed with it. Today is the latter... On the pro side, it is definitely less sketchy than hopping into a run down cab with someone random (well, uber drivers are also "random" but at least appear more vetted). All of the payments are handled via the app. And they sometimes offer cool discounts (like 25% off for summer). However, unlike a cab that comes at a specified time, uber gives you an estimate of how long the driver will take to get to your place. That would be fine if those times were more accurate than not. I find that the times aren't accurate most of the time because the driver is either two minutes early and is annoyed that you aren't hurrying up, or for whatever reason ends up driving the wrong way first, further extending the time it will take to get to you. This morning my estimated time was initially 4 minutes. It ended up taking 20 minutes to arrive. I would have rather called a cab in advance and have it arrive on time than sit around for a late uber! I'm giving it 3 stars because I do still use it and think the concept is a good one. But Uber really needs to figure out what is going on with their GPS because that seems like the root of the most common annoyance--drivers not knowing where you really are and driving to some random location that is even further away. read more

I've only used Uber once. Pros: - Driver arrived in 15 minutes, comparable with taxi companies. - Driver's Toyota Highlander was clean, neat, and had working AC which is a must in DMV humidity! - Driver was quiet but polite. - Driver and car plate matched the description Uber sent me. - I felt safe with driver though I did email a friend a screenshot of the description Uber sent me. - Ride was free due to $30 credit for first timers! - Hassle free credit card usage! Cons: - Uber quoted me arrival in 8 minutes. - Driver took the usual route to my office when we were less than 10 minutes away, he suddenly made a turn that added several miles and 15 minutes to the ride. I would have been PISSED if that first ride wasn't free. I don't know if he was truly didn't know the shorter route or was just jacking up the fare. When I mentioned to my friend I was trying Uber she was appalled I was getting in car with a rando. Personally, I didn't feel any more or less safe than with a taxi driver since they are supposed to have their taxi licenses displayed but rarely do. Plus, it's not uncommmon for them to become hostile if you ask to use a credit card/want the AC on/making too long or short a trip. I'd give Uber another try when I don't have cash. read more

Uber is competitive business at its best; I cannot begin to explain how long I have been waiting for someone to shake the tree of the complacent, God-awful cab system I've been dealing with here in DC for the last three decades. The system could not be simpler. Your car arrives in minutes. The drivers are courteous, clean, and even well dressed. The cars are roomy and immaculate. You can see their GPS and suggest routes if you need to... and they don't give you any lip about it. All payments are taken care of. And it BARELY costs more than a cab. The only thing I would improve about Uber is the location service on the app - it may just be because I have AT&T, but in some locations in the city, it can't seem to find me. But I can't even complain about that, because Uber gave me $10 off my next ride when it noticed my location couldn't be acquired, and I didn't even have to ask for it! As an semi-related aside, the response from the cab industry and the D.C. cab commission enrages me as a human being, a businessman, and a lifelong city resident. It has prompted me to write my first letter ever to my council member. Instead of getting their shit together (e.g. accepting credit cards, forcing their drivers to shower, giving rides to black and hispanic people, taking people outside of NW D.C., cleaning their cars, taking direct routes, improving the shitty 1-800-TAXI-CAB service, etc.), they're colluding to drive Uber out of the city through regulations. Seriously. The taxicab commission, with the cab companies in their pockets, are trying to force Uber to charge higher minimum fees, only allow companies with fleets of 20+ cars or more to service Uber, and impose other regulatory shenanigans from which the public derives absolutely no benefit whatsoever. If you live in the city and you appreciate Uber (and what Uber stands for - a competitive market), please PLEASE email/write/call/visit your councilperson, because the cabbies are working harder to shut down Uber than they've ever worked to improve their service. read more

My first (and probably last) UberX ride was on July 14, 2014 - Residence in McLean to Dulles Airport. The driver was friendly and competent, the car was immaculate, and the service was prompt. So why only two stars? Well, before booking the trip, I had used Uber's own fare estimator tool (on their home page), plugging in my home address and IAD, to get an idea of what the trip would cost. The estimate was $49-50, which was fine with me. After the trip, however, I found I had been billed $66. When I wrote to Uber to complain, I was told that rides to the airport are billed at a flat rate "to provide transparency and continuity." There was no mention of the UberX fare estimator. Now, I have no problem with flat rate billing, but I strenuously object to Uber's lowballing me by quoting one rate and then charging another. read more

I'll give a fair review here despite a bit of sticker shock. I'm writing this so others don't make the same mistake. 1. The car, driver, and service were excellent. I would give that aspect of my trip 5 stars. 2. Billing: I just paid $72 to go from Cleveland Park to Shirlington. When ordering the car the estimated cost was $26-40. Even at the high end I found that fair, so I booked it. A small triangle popped up my phone with "Surge 1.75" beside it. I should have looked into this a bit more, but I didn't. As stated above, the trip was great, no complaints at all. Then I get the bill with the following breakdown: Base Fair $7 Distance (9.65 miles) $28.64 Time (24 minutes, 22 Sec) $5.57 Surge x 1.75 $30.91 Total $72.12 It turns out the surge is an added fee during large events like New Year's Eve, etc. I can only assume tonight's charge was either because of the Nats playoff game or because it's Friday night, I have no idea. Anyway, my only advice is make sure you are not traveling during a surge time unless you really need to get where you are going. I took Red Top back home (booked on my phone as well). So, I've used Uber over 100 times. Usually very convenient and the drivers are always friendly. They have a great twitter presence -- if you ever have any trouble, tweet them for immediate assistance. I've had about 3 bad experiences, but 3 bad experiences out of over 100 rides is awesome. Their social media assistance is amazing. I tweeted them when I had an issue and they responded right away each time to help resolve my complaint. My recommendations: Only take rides with drivers who had 4 or 5 stars. Don't take UBER to the airport before doing a fare quote. Entertaining stories that make me laugh far more now than they did at the time! 1. Scheduled pickup while my parents were in town visiting. We were in SW near the Fish Market. I receive a call and am told the car is en route. Great. Then a text that says the car is approaching. There's no car. Then I receive another call and am told that Uber won't come to pick us up because "there is traffic." Whaaat. I spent about 27 seconds trying to understand that logic but then I just gave up and called another service. 2. Scheduled a pickup from Kennedy Center after a performance. Received a call and was told that the driver didn't know where the Kennedy Center is. Whaaat. How can you be a driver in Washington and not know where this high-traffic historical landmark is? One of the busiest centers for the arts in the country? We went back and forth until he finally reached the Kennedy Center. All's well that ends well. Sigh. read more

My first time using uber was a great experience and was free! Found a first timer promo code and it worked like a charm. Used it for a ride from my hotel to the airport. The driver called to tell me where he was. It took approximately 4 minutes for him to show up and we had a pleasant conversation on the way. When I mentioned it was my first time, he gave me a coupon for another freebie. Will certainly use this again, especially for rides to and from airports. read more

I am prompted to write a review about Uber because of an UberX experience I had while on my way home with friends from DC to VA. I got the UberX after a night out in the city. I should have known something was not right when the driver was not paying attention to the GPS and circled the block twice. Once we crossed the bridge to VA, the driver took a wrong exit to the Pentagon. We told him it was the wrong exit and he proceeded to go back on to the highway. In the process he didn't stop at the stop sign and attempted to enter the off ramp of the highway while we all started to scream and told him to stop. At that point the police patrol around the Pentagon came rushing after the UberX. 2 out of 3 of us were sober by then and freaking out. Basically, the Police Officers pulled the UberX driver over and were talking to him outside. One officer came up to the passenger's side where I was sitting and asked us questions about the Uber Driver and the ride. He said that the UberX driver was swerving on the road and he though he may have been drinking. I used Uber a number of times before that and it was perfectly respectable but I would caution against UberX. My rule now is to use regular Taxis and as a last resort, get an Uber. read more

Uber now offers a number of different services, all of them worthy of their own review. Uber Black Car: 5-stars. This is by far the highest quality service they offer. I've never had a problem with the rides I've gotten from these drivers. The car are clean and the drivers are professionals. Prices are maybe 50% higher than cabs (during non-surge times, more on that later). Quality is 10,000% times better than cabs, so the value is certainly there. Uber SUV: 5-stars. Same as above. I rarely use this, but it is handy in the event that you have big group of people trying to get somewhere. Uber Taxi: 1-star. When you use Uber Taxi, you're just using a different method to hail a regular old DC cab and you have to put up with all the nonsense of a regular DC cab. Not worth it. UberX: 3-stars. This service is marketed as less expensive than a taxi, and during non-surge times, it is. But this is one place where quality really starts to slip. Some UberX drivers are great. Others have dirty or beat-up cars or are clueless about how to get around downtown DC. I've never had an UberX ride that was on par, quality-wise, with the Black Car service. The difference is that the Black Car drivers are professionals, UberX drivers are amateurs. For the price, it's worth it sometimes, but this is one area where Uber is walking a fine-line between being a "premium" ride service and a gypsy-cab hailing service. One more point on prices. I've found that surge pricing is most likely to be effect on weekend evenings and nights (when people are out partying/drinking) and when the weather is bad (rain or snow). Surge pricing can sometimes double the cost of a ride, which can be a frustrating proposition, especially if I went out and expected to pay $25 to get back home, only to be stuck paying $50 because of surge pricing once I'm out. The economist in me understands the need for variable pricing, but the reviews here and elsewhere show that many of Uber's customers don't. That's a problem on their end. read more

UBER is the best thing since sliced bread. You should know that I never use that saying so you can trust just how amazing this service is. With calling taxis, you never know exactly WHEN they'll get there, what they'll look like, what car they'll drive, the list goes on. With Uber, you know exactly what you're getting into. You tell them your exact location through GPS, they tell you the name of the driver who will pick you up, his photo, the make of his car, and his ETA! I've never had an ETA more than 10 minutes, and every time my driver has beat the quoted time. It takes the sketch out of taxi drivers. You know exactly what you're paying for, and you get exactly what you pay for. Best of all, taxi services are finally upgraded to the times! There's no pulling out of the wallet, no cash or card exchanged, no wallet lost in the taxi. You simply load your card information into your phone and voila! you are charged after you reach your destination. No hassle, no worry. Truly redefining taxis. I'll never go back if I can help it! read more

I have used uber for years and it is the most American thing I have ever seen. So much freedom from tipping, from being over charged off the meter, from being left stranded it's awe inspiring. The drivers show up when they are supposed to, have ratings, and do not have the luxury of driving all around the city to run up the meter. They follow the simple GPS and boom you have arrived. There is no credit card machine that isn't working, no fumbling for cash in the back of a swerving vehicle. An uber driver is required to own a smart phone with data and built in navigation, a newish car, and is rated by passengers on performance. They have private insurance and are able to not terrify passengers. I can see where they are, when they are coming and what kind of car they will arrive in. I have never had an issue with the company after dozens of rides in multiple cities. In fact I am now driving for uber. Second day and I love it. Both users and drivers are decent human beings of above average everything. Kudos. If everyone had this app and drove as well the world would be a better place. read more

Uber is price gouging. Almost every time in the last few weeks I am notified they are charging 1.6 the normal rate. That would indicate a shortage of drivers, however, they arrive within minutes; I can barely get out of my door, One time, I was charged $97 for a 2.8 mile ride. Yes, it had snowed. Yes, the roads were clear. I was expensing the ride for work, and thankfully, they didn't fire me. I have battled numerous $5 dollar charge reversals when a driver never shows up, or some other circus of events is happening and the car can't take me, or they picked me up by mistake; one time a driver wanted to drop me off at night after he picked me up at The Ritz after a charity event. I was carrying a valuable glass bowl I'd won at the charity auction and he just shrugged. Then he said he'd drive me, but I had to pay $40 in cash. This happens everywhere in the world when I use Uber. This is not isolated to the U.S. Most of the drivers are really very pleasant; they are not in charge of the b.s. price gouging and charging for rides that never happen. Yes, Uber has a very fancy app and a cute webpage; now they need to be accountable to their client base. I have deleted my account and switched to Lyft, or taxi. This organization is a scam that has no control over abusive sex-offender drivers and liars who try to extort cash when they make a mistake, I'm a very worldy, savvy POLITE human. I can spend my hard earned dollars elsewhere. read more

I have taken Uber about 10 or 15 times and my husband has used the service for personal and work related travel multiple times. The drivers are usually great, but we have had a couple of weird experiences. One driver grilled us for 10-15 minutes about why we took Uber instead of the metro.... which was odd and kind of uncomfortable. Anyway, the reason for the negative review doe not relate to the drivers or the cars, but rather the Uber customer service. We were charged a 2 times fee surge the other night (Saturday before Halloween), even when the surge DID NOT display on our phone app. The app was not functioning properly, as we confirmed later that my husband's phone app did not match mine for surge pricing. The surge did not show up when we booked the ride, and then we were charged over $80 for a ride from NW DC to Arlington. The fare should have been about $30-40 dollars. We complained to Uber and assumed that with their great customer service, they would certainly do something for us. They said, nope, too bad, sorry. They also said that they knew we saw the surge, even when we told them that we were certain that we didn't. Basically they assume we're just lying. I do not understand how a for profit company thinks it is more advantageous to refuse to refund us 1/2 of our fare and lose two high paying customers rather than giving us our $40 back. I am happy to pay the original fee and would even have been happy with a credit to our Uber account for a future ride - guaranteeing they would get the business. Really, REALLY poor service from Katie, the Uber community manager. We won't be taking Uber anymore, even if it means riding in a crappy DC cab. read more

Terrible customer service, after a hard time finding a way to contact customer service, your claim is immediately dismissed with an auto response that does nothing for you, but adds a "resolved" anything but. No help if there is any issue with double payments. Uber drivers experience the same and have no help with questions that have for very little pay. UBER customer service is horrific!!!!!! read more

Fluctuating surge prices for over an hour?! Seems like a scam to me. Why charge $10 more for the same route I use almost everyday? On top of long waits and multiple pools, Uber is a black hole for your money (i.e., random policies, cold customer service, inconsistent charges to my account). Not to mention, My UberPool was involved in an ACCIDENT. Everyone in the car was shaken up, and I was sore for 2 days! Uber made a pathetic attempt to reach out to me a week later via email, offering nothing--not even credits-- for my pain and suffering. That is absolutely sad and ridiculous, Uber. You have a legal responsibility to your patrons to provide them with safe rides, and a satisfactory experience. Step it up! Advice to Uber: Provide your drivers with some incentives so that customers do not have to pay extra just to keep drivers happy. What kind of business puts independent contractors first??!! Implement procedures that makes riders feel whole when an accident, or any other risks, occur. Advice to riders: Use a prepaid card to set up your account. Call the police, and visit the hospital if you are put into a high-risk situation by an Uber driver, and especially if you experience injuries. Uber will not compensate you in anyway. read more

Wow - $22 to go less than a mile in 6 minutes. .8 of a mile to be exact. That is completely insane. Uber charged me a surge charge because they were busy at the time when I booked the ride. So it was 1.5 times what it normally cost. Still, it is an insanely overpriced service even without that charge. Yes, I liked that I could see and rate the driver and that he showed up and texted me. I liked the car and the service, but neither could justify the price. And the price alone is so incredibly exorbitant that it justifies a one-star rating.
