It's always a gamble to see if you'll be here for a minute or 25 minutes, but the employees are great and work hard to conquer the line. Sometimes the energy seems dead inside because customers are in a rush to get in & out. I try to handle all my transactions online, but I do have to drop off my box. I can call a pick up, but I like to have a printed copy of my tracking information. Flat rate boxes are free. Insurance is worth it if you're shipping something expensive. They have a display of stamps available for purchase. Honestly the USPS website is all you need. USPS works at their own pace, but some customers also arrive ill-prepared for everything they need to change something or mail something out.

On several occasions, I have had to leave without dropping off my packages because there was a homeless individual sleeping or standing in the lobby. This has made me feel unsafe, especially during early morning hours when there are no employees present. I understand that this can be a difficult situation, but something needs to be done to ensure customer safety. At a minimum, having police or security do periodic drive-bys or checks would help. Customers should not have to feel afraid simply dropping off a package, especially when many of us rely on early-morning access due to work schedules.

Customers will need to drive in back to enter. The lot is huge and signage is over the door. Of note this is the only passport service on the Southside. Appointments are highly recommended, but when slow they will take walk-in. Customers can compete forms online or in person. Check or debit card appear to be the only two forms of payment. Cash was not discussed however. There is plenty of seating as the area is spacious. Two agents were working and luckily caught at a slow weekday. The wait was short, the process easy and the customer service exceptional. My daughter who is 18 will have her passport in around six weeks. She also opted for a second form of ID the passport card. It's the size of a drivers license. It's somewhat newer. You can bring your own photo of official size, or opt for the agent to take. If picky bring your own, the photo for my daughter came out extremely light. My experiences with the post office have been average to weak, so this is a huge bump in confidence for the U.S. Postal Service. This post office serves zip code 22324 in the SoNo section of Chesapeake, Virginia. It is small but a full-service post office that offers all the services one expects from a post office. This postal location does not have its own public parking lot but if you are unable to find available street parking there is a large parking lot for South Norfolk Christian Church nearby. There is always plenty of available parking in the church lot. I have parked there many times and have never had an issue. Staff here is friendly and helpful. I appreciate the convenient location and the service they provide. Despite its small size they are able to handle all my postal needs.

The Clerk there however (didn't catch her name), took the time to weigh the content of what I wanted to ship and then suggested the best way for me to send it. Basically, saved me a bunch of money. They do not operate in accordance with the hours the government assigns them. The one time I went and they were not on lunch, the woman at the register was not qualified to operate the register, meaning she couldn't check me out. Which made my visit entirely useless and I had to come back another day. I actually dread coming here and try to avoid USPS, particularly this one, at all costs. He had to do an in-person identification at the Post Office in Virginia, but he is currently in NYC. The Kempsville location said that I would have to go to NYC and take my son to the PO to identify him in person smh lol. All I had to do at this location was show my ID and bring his birth certificate, which makes a lot more sense. I was in and out within 5min. No lines.

I was told that they were not available and was told to give the clerk my name and telephone number along with my Postal Servi9ce online printout and someone (I'm not holding my breath!) would get back to. I'm still waiting. I thought the U.S. Postal Service was supposed to provide SERVICE! It appears that I was mistaken! With gas at nearly $4.00 per gallon, you would think that they would be a little more considerate of customers having to take their time and go out of their way to seek assistance! As a result, the official name of the U.S. Postal Service should be changed to the U.S. Postal Disservice. at least at the Broad Street branch in Portsmouth, VA.
