If you try to call their phone number, it claims that the place is closed despite them being fully open.

Nicest people I've found in an Austin post office and never seem to be busy (no line).

What good is a phone when it's never answered. Repeated calls and no answer. No real delivery of my letter when requested either.

When all others fail to deliver, this is my secret go-to post office location. It is fairly close…read moreto downtown and is in the same shopping center as a competing private business mail supply store, so you can kill two birds with one stone if you need to send out a bunch of packages through various methods. What I enjoy most about this Post Office branch is that even though you only have 1-2 people working, you typically have a shorter wait than you would say, at the Downtown branch. You might have a person or two in front of you, but to be honest, you won't be waiting very much at all. They seem to also keep their supplies better stocked than some of the larger branches. For instance, today I was hunting for some Large Flat Rate boxes and none of the large branches I visited in the past 2 days had them (my guess is due to the upcoming holiday season). So I stopped by to check them out and lo and behold they had exactly what I needed. The employees are very friendly and extremely knowledgable and will help you get the best deal for your mailing needs if they see you could benefit from a cheaper, but just as beneficial service. The location is quiet and there is always parking. The only major drawback is that their hours are fairly short compared to major branches (M-F, 10-1 then 1:30-4:30 and Sat 9-1).

Both times I went in, the service was shockingly rude and unprofessional. It's clear the employees here have no interest in helping anyone. Even when I spoke kindly and respectfully, I was met with complete attitude and zero effort. The overall energy is just off the staff act like they don't want to be there I even overheard one staff member saying "I wouldn't be here if they weren't paying me", and they do the bare minimum. The building itself doesn't help either it's dark, dirty, and honestly feels neglected. Whoever took these photos they're completely outdated and misleading. Both visits, I was simply trying to return a small Amazon package (a foundation, nothing complicated). I don't have a printer or tape at home, so I politely asked for help, and was flat-out denied. I left, went out of my way to print the label elsewhere, and came back another day. A different employee helped me slightly, but still told me I had to buy tape and tape the box myself, then immediately started helping the next person mid-conversation. I left frustrated and unwelcome. For something as simple as a return, the process was painfully difficult. I didn't even get a receipt and wasn't sure if that was normal. It's unfortunate because the location is convenient, but the lack of professionalism and basic courtesy ruins it. I'll be driving farther out from now on for better service. Hopefully management sees this and does something about it this is easily the worst USPS experience I've had anywhere.

With that very low expectation set, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised with the level of smart efficiency I experienced at 10 minutes before closing at this Metric & Braker Lane location on a Saturday afternoon. If you have used this location before, you may know that the window for picking up packages is a closed door placed outside of the "main" customer service counter / store part of the place. A common mistake folks make all the time is coming in to pick up a package, waiting in the long line at the main counter, and only once reaching the front, learning that they were supposed to go stand at that closed door and wait for someone to appear out of nowhere to acknowledge them. Been there, done that myself. On this day, I showed up to retrieve my "requires signature" item and found a line of about 15 customers ahead of me with just a few minutes until closing. I had my doubts about how this situation would end, but the postal worker handled it with professionalism and efficiency, calling us up to give our addresses & show ID, taking down our info, and then going away with a complete list to get all of the packages in bulk. This calmed everyone and assured us that we'd be able to get our stuff before the place closed for the day. One by one, each name was called, even those who had arrived after me, and soon only one person was left without a package - me. Turns out, my mail carrier had picked up my item and had it out with her for another delivery attempt, even though the order was specifically set to be held at the post office. Argh! Foiled again!
