Everyone is super friendly when I have come in, and they help me get set up fast, and returns have never been a hassle. Bessie The U-Haul Truck Finds A New Home SITREP Well, we picked up "Bessie" - our 20-FT U-Haul Truck in Glendale, CA - in the barrio to be precise. THE GLENDALE SETUP One reason I say that is that as soon as we got the truck ready to go, several Spanish-speaking gentlemen standing on the curb swarmed up to me asking us if we needed help loading up the truck full of furniture. And I don't blame them for trying to find a temporary job, and I wish them best. [As it turns out, we are DIY and didn't need their help.] But that sort of thing doesn't usually at U-Haul Truck centers up north. Not in Sacramento. Certainly not at this pristine Spokane location where we were returning Bessie. SPOKANE RETURN METRICS As it turns out, we already know we had gone a bit over the 1343 miles that we were allotted for this road trip from Glendale, CA to Spokane, WA. [I don't know who makes these calculations, but they always seem to short-change the customer, but that said, moving on....] I had already swept out the truck, and folded up all the blankets we used to cushion the furniture. The check-in process was quick & smooth and in less than 15 minutes with the walk-around the truck, we were on our way. I'm having so many issues with these guys. Website promises first month free but I havent gotten my first month free. They tried to charge me a late fee although I was supposed to get my first month free. Then after multiple visits finally got it settled and was still charged for my first month. Trying to call if not customer service? Forget about it. Having nothing but an awful experience with these guys. My advice is to go elsewhere read more

Got here at 7am on a Saturday and there was only one person working the front desk. Had 3 people in front of us and 50 mins later.... we are ALL still waiting to get our trucks. Need to schedule more people on the weekends ....... this is when people move.... duh!!!! The reservation person we had talked was RUDE... this was through central. If you are on a time frame..... It's your privacy's worst nightmare. They will photograph your DL BACK AND FRONT ON A CELL PHONE. and then REQUIRE a second party's name AND PHONE to verify. BE SURE YOU HAVE THEIR PERMISSION BEFORE YOU WALK THROUGH THE DOOR. THE RENTAL PROCESS IS PAINFUL AGGRAVATING FRUSTRATING This was for a 6x12 open trailer. I've rented a truck from them a few times, and they are reliable, but not well-organized. When I came to make a reservation, there was only one person working and he was outside. He didn't even notice that we came in and were waiting, so he went off to help another guy who drove up to get propane. After waiting 15 minutes, we found someone who worked in a different division that claimed they could not help us with reservations. Someone they identified as the general manager called around to figure out where everyone was, but still we had to wait for the lone guy in the parking lot. That said, we had no problems with the truck, and return was quick and easy. The place is kind of hit or miss, but at least they always seem to have trucks available. read more

Rented a 26 foot truck and a car trailer to move from Spokane to San jose. I booked through the website which was fast and easy. I picked up the truck on the reserved day then picked up the trailer the day after we had everything in the truck. The uhaul rep hooked up the trailer and assisted us with putting the car on the trailer. I have a standard 09 BMW 3 series with no modifications and a sport package. They drove it up the ramp and as it leveled out, a loud cracking noise came from the bottom of the car. Apparently it cracked the thick underbody shield that these cars come with. I asked them if that was normal and they said yes. I also asked if there was a different way to do it and they were not aware. Then after it was on the trailer they put the tie down chains over the tie rods. I pointed out that it was not part of the frame or stable and they said that's how they normally do it. Cut to 11 hrs into the move and the truck dies in a motel parking lot and does not start for 1 hr. Luckily as we are on the phone with customer service, it started and we continued. Next day we drive another 7 hrs, get to the new home, unload for 4 hrs, then head back to the uhaul near downtown SJ where it dies again roughly 1 mile from the uhaul center. We again call customer service and they say we have to wait for another hour. Knowing that it started before in the same situation, we decided to keep trying and it eventually started again. I got it back to the uhaul and called customer service to file a complaint. This was a huge cluster from the start. Also when I got to San Jose and returned the trailer, they asked if I noticed the bottom of my car was ripped up. Apparently when they vehicles with low clearance they put simple wooden blocks underneath the ramps. They also asked why they didn't use the tow tie downs that are in the front bumper. I file a claim with the insurance that I paid extra for and got denied despite the fact that the same company had 2 different levels of expertise in how to properly load a basic BMW onto a trailer. I paid 998.00 for 3 days and a trailer and despite having payed extra for insurance, still was not covered for damages they made to my car. I recommend that you stay away from this u hual location. The manager emailed me, not called and gave me a 50 dollar gift certificate for my troubles. WOW. If you know you haven't provided good customer service I would expect a call to apologize and use the insurance that I paid for to fix what was damaged due to your company's negligence. I would strongly caution anyone from using uhual for long distance moves or for moving a car. I will never use uhual again because of their lack of integrity and choice to provide bad customer service to a reasonable customer. read more

Delivery of Uboxes is beyond bad. Uhaul failed to deliver my items TWICE. I called and scheduled my delivery, yet uhaul just doesnt show up. When they finally showed up, they brought only 6 out of 9 boxes and I had to go pick up the rest myself. They stated they called me and I didn't confirm the reservation so they just canceled my appointments - THEY NEVER CALLED. I'm tired of Uhaul's lies, this company is a hot trash dumpster fire and deserves to go bankrupt for how poorly they operate and blame their customers for their own mess. DO NOT use uboxes, you will not get your items for weeks if your experience is anything like mine. I can't believe how terrible this experience has been, it's shockingly bad. read more

This establishment caused me to never want to rent from a u-haul company ever again. The vehicle overheated on the return trip, causing me to have to pull over and wait for it to cool off before driving the rest of the way. "Roadside Assistance" was an automated mess. No matter what button I pushed, I could not talk to a PERSON to assist me. On returning the vehicle, I was met by a lovely lady with a terrible attitude. She gave me the "I can't actually call you a liar," when I couldn't immediately replicate the vehicle overheating. I apologized for not being able to fill it with gas, and even offered to pay current gas station price, but the lovely grumpy lady was insistent. If I didn't drive this dangerous vehicle to a gas station, I'm going to be charged the insane "courtesy fee" for them to fill it up. Looks like they're going to take my money anyway, and with that will go the chance they have of ever doing business with me ever again. Don't be fooled by the relatively inexpensive rates. The customer service side of U-Haul is horrible, especially if you are not physically at a U-Haul location. Customer phone service is practically non-existent as I have called multiple times on multiple occasions and spoke to a live person exactly once, every other time is the generic, automated B.S. Email doesn't work and the glorious Live Chat option is a fail as well. Truly think twice about U-Haul, go with some one else. Never going back. This really should be a 1 star at best but it was such a bad experience they earned an extra star by providing a hefty discount. I scheduled a trailer hitch install on my Nissan Pathfinder 2 weeks in advance. When I dropped off the car at 7:30 AM I was told the parts had not arrived. I explained the urgency and he said "well maybe it's back there in a box and not checked in". He came back up and said the parts were actually there. Cool. No biggie right? He said he would call when the work was completed. I was told when I scheduled it that it takes 2-3 hours. After about 4 hours I called and was not allowed to talk to anyone in the store as it was forwarded to their answering service. I was reassured they would call me back. After another hour without a call I went back in only to be told it wasn't done because "they were working on another car" WHAT? I made an appointment 2 weeks in advance! Finally at about 5:30PM I called again and was again told they would call me back. I finally decided to go in and see what was going on after another hour without a call. They were finally finishing up at 6:30PM. I did end up with a roughly 33% discount, but I ended up paying an extra $30 in Uber rides. I'm pretty understanding but the issue here was a complete and utter lack of communication. Had they just told me they were super busy and they needed the rig all day I would have been fine with it, but instead I wasted most of my day waiting on them to call. Not a good experience. If you plan on using them for a hitch install expect to leave the car all day. read more

I made an appointment to have a hitch put on my vehicle. When I arrived, I was told that the call center scheduled a time when no one was available to work on it. Luckily, Nicole was able to remedy the situation so I could have the hitch installed and be on the road for our vacation the same day. Hope stopped what she was doing, so she could install the hitch. F A I L U R E ! I booked a hitch installation on-line (Friday). The selection tool and options were quite impressive so I purchased the product on-line and booked an appointment. The instructions stated to not call the store they will call you with the final details. Saturday morning, by mid-morning I had not heard from them and felt that we didn't want to waste our day not knowing. So I called the store about 10am and they told me my appointment had been scheduled for 7am. I was never called and notified of this. So, I re booked the appointment for 10:30am Sunday. I arrived 20 minutes early and handed my keys over and told the gal at the counter that I'm the 10:30am hitch installation. She said we have no one to install the hitch today. She looked into her records and found out that when I called the (local store number) I was passed off to a call center in Arizona "who has no idea what the hitch installation schedule is". To her credit she was VERY apologetic and sympathetic and said she would be happy to re book it. I said I'll take a refund, and she promptly did that. Hindsight being 20/20 I should have learned my lesson booking anything online with U haul. I was burned by U haul 3212 W Court St, Pasco, WA two years ago when I booked a trailer online. They too (completely) failed me. This particular U haul store in Spokane has been at this address for many-many years and I don't think they are in the business of getting things wrong, but as a customer it's not my problem that the online system burned me (again) and as a customer I was letdown and give U haul a failing grade. If U haul can't get a $250 hitch installation right, I can't expect that renting equipment for a big move would be a good choice on my part... read more

They left my son stranded after I drove 100 miles to pick him up. They told him they were open until midnight to pick up the truck, when we got there they said the owner left and you're out of luck. I ignored the bad reviews and went to this place anyway as they had installed my trailer hitch 7 years previous. 2 of the young men working there were nice enough but incompetent on the pc/cash register . ...couldnt figure out how to do a refund the manager said I had coming. So he changed his mind about the refund and the price ... when I said wait a minute that's peculiar ... He said out loud he didnt wanna hear that and get him outta here.
