Worst Uhaul location ever. Seriously never rent from here. Very unhelpful and unethical business practices they do. Plus they take forever to print you a receipt when checking out. I reserved a moving van and when I came in they wanted me to provide the first and last name and personal phone number of a friend or family member. Totally inappropriate especially in this day and age of identity theft and fraud. The owner told me it's Uhaul policy but I can UPGRADE for a larger fee to a bigger truck and they won't have to call a friend or family! So if I spend more money, THEN there's no need for a phone call. So it really is all about the money. He was trying to tell me the vans are more stolen. Like how ignorant and moronic is that. If ANYONE was planning to steal one of these vehicles wouldn't they just have a buddy say "hey I'm gong to steal a Uhaul van I'm gonna give them your number and fake name. When they call you verify me and say I'm a standup guy!" Lol. Like wtf. Seriously. That's your security theft prevention! ROFL. You don't have to be an electrical engineer to figure that one out. I had this big truck for one small sofa I had to move lol. I had no problems with the truck. It ran nice and smooth. The gas was off when I got in. The contract said it was half a tank when it was only 3/8. Make sure to check your gauges and mileage as it seems they be pulling fast ones at this Uhaul location. I know inflation is real and things are more expensive but come on let's be honest in our dealings and start exercising more honest business practices and stop asking your customers to provide the personal information of their friends and family. read more

This U-Haul place specifically was so great! This was mine and my roommate's first time renting a vehicle. They made sure we were set up and comfortable with the truck. They explained everything so we felt confident and prepared to drive and return the truck. Huge shoutout to Josh, Daniel, Rod, and Adrian. I have rented vans from the location down the street for 25+ years and the staff were always a problem. Years ago they had good people working but now few and far between. I rented a storage unit that is a bock away but manager works at this location. This is THE WORST EXPERIENCE ALL THE WAY AROUND!! Andrew was good when he rented it too me but when I went to move my things in I was given one of the least desirable units. At the end of the location where renters regularly would block you unit while they go to the inside units, so I always had to go look for someone. read more

This review is for the uhaul location at 2680 Newport Blvd. in Costa Mesa. They sold me moving boxes for more than the advertised price. I know costs are going up everywhere, but if you have a big sign up you must honor that price. This becomes a classic case of false advertising otherwise if they do honor it. Management please correct these problems before continuing to false advertising your prices to fellow shoppers. Signs in front of registers hanging from ceiling clearly indicates medium boxes for $1.39 per box of 20 and small boxes advertised $.91 per box of 25 I was charged too much money $1.63 for a bundle of 20 medium boxes and $1.09 per box of 25 which is wrong. I was told the price changed and they would not honor the advertised price advertised on the store display. I don't like that and I won't be shopping at this location anymore. read more

Came all the way from Arizona and realized the original U-Haul place gave me a very dusty/dirty container, and then I even found trash stuffed behind the seats! Got to my drop off here in Costa Mesa, Jack and another gentleman were super helpful and said not to even worry about it. Quick Summary: They ambush you on pick up - incrementally extorting every last piece of private info they can get... and then they want your friend's data too. Details: Planned ahead, and made a reservation for a truck. Filled out all the required information it asked for online. When I arrived to pick up. They incrementally asked for a whole bunch more personal info, including a 2nd phone number (which luckily I had a business phone, and gave them). Once they entered that into their corporate database, they wanted a THIRD phone number - of someone else, who would be called (at 7am in the morning), and MUST answer the phone. I told them that was not my information to give. The rude worker immediately said "Then I can't rent you the truck!". They know they've got you, so they extort every last piece of private data they can get, and then they want your friend's data too. Not using uHaul ever again. read more

The truck I rented transmission blew up 5 miles down the road. I Sat on the side of the 55 freeway for 2 hours waiting for roadside assistance. The tow truck company that showed up took me to a different location then Costa Mesa because it was a "Service Center". No one at Anaheim Location would give me a ride back. Came here looking for a hitch installation. Manager ordered the wrong one, and wasn't willing to work with me by finding a resolution. I own a newer car that's recently been redesigned. Finding a compatible hitch was as easy as 1 google search. Instead he made sure I was aware he paid for priority shipping for the hitch, and that $50ish was lost. He then advised me to be responsible to order the correct hitch, and they would be willing to install for a hefty fee of course. Mistakes can happen, but the manager never took ownership for HIS mistake. For hitch installations I'd recommend you go to Taylor's in Costa Mesa! read more

So well I'm helping my friend move right? So he goes to rent a truck from Uhaul. I'm waiting in the car, we've been busy all day already it's about noon time. And he's talking a long time (10 mins approx). What's going on? He gives me a call "come in please". I proceed to enter the store and the clerk is giving my buddy a hard time about his license (it's brand new, just received in the mail, for clarification) and she's saying to him "I may not be able to rent to you today" So I present my DL and Credit Card to the clerk and starts going on about "how I'm the rule follower around here, I implement the policies appropriately, other places must have not been doing that" on and on and things I don't care about. My friend and I are in the process of moving which is very stressful and she wasn't making it any easier. So I provide all my information and one of the pieces is emergency contact information and I provide my dads number. And guess what she calls him! He answered she does her Uhaul emergency contact spiel (if that is your policy, change it) He's confused and I call him after the fact and he was busy dealing with a work emergency so that phone call was totally inappropriate. So she's got me stressed out, my friend stressed out, our 2 movers waiting outside, people at both moving locations and such. So yeah. 1 star is for the truck working well 1 star is for the gentleman who helped me when I departed and returned with the Uhaul. Lady who called herself a rule follower/policy implementer whatever. That was totally inappropriate. Please be better. You may know the procedures but how you implement them and how you treat customers needs a complete 180. read more

Very little parking - only 6 spots, so plan on walking down to the residential neighborhood. They will not escort you, and it's dangerous. Andrew also cancelled my reservation after I arrived and paid for it when I reiterated my understanding of the return policies of $100 for late return, when previously it's just the day rate. He insisted I was telling him I wouldn't return it by then, but I'm a professional and I clarify my understanding of discrepancies. His tag says, "owner" but he is just a manager. If you forget anything in the vehicle, don't plan on getting it back, they won't even look for it. I found a wallet with credit cards and they didn't do anything, I had to track the guy down and ship him his stuff, and they had told him no one did anything to help him. Also, I have tried calling for extensions and U-Haul explicitly told me to just not return it and I pay the day rate. Great customer service. I couldn't go in the building because of my serious health concern This is usually a problem for businesses to help me. Right away someone came out to assist me. Very professional young associates. I was informed I couldn't get a hitch installed unless I dropped off the vehicle for half the day. I was not in a position I could do that due to my health. I understand it was unusual circumstances but they crew really cami through for me. While I waited I watched all the other associates kindly help customers with all different needs and I was impressed. My install was done in amazing short time by Will. We came here as our reservation got pushed back an hour and a half was looking for a local uhaul to get us an earlier truck. Everything in a 15 mile radius was essentially booked up and Nick at the front was super helpful checking everything and getting our info down to call us if anything was available. He even went as far as to check those trucks who haven't picked up yet to see if they might cancel or not. He called me an hour later and got me a truck and was able to help me book it asap. So. I've used uhaul many times over the last few years and usually it's a pretty solid experience. But not this location. Step 1) place your order online for 24/7 pickup/drop off. Step 2) manager decides "nah, it's business hours, I'm going to change that without notifying the customer and not finish setting up the pickup per the order that was placed." Step 3) show up just past close which is fine, reservation was 6:45, 15 minute late due to traffic, but should be fine I bought 24/7. Literally had an employee come up to me after he had spoken to the manager and says "my manager says that if you can get someone on the phone by 7:30, then we'll help you out" 45 minute hold to get someone at corporate. Apparently it's not standard protocol for uhaul to change a persons reservation without telling them and so this manager is actually just a lazy pos. Literally dude, what? Maybe 10 more minutes of paperwork to finish setting it up properly?? Can't tell you to not come here but I'd advise against it. read more

Took a couple of weeks to get the correct part, but scheduled for today, dropped it off and got a call within 1.5 hours that it was ready for pickup. If I could give zero stars, I would. I made a reservation for a cargo van. I arrived an hour after my reservation time.....AND THEY CANCELLED MY RESERVATION and gave my van away. At no point was I informed that I had an hour window to pick up my van or my reservation would be cancelled. The worst part was that not only did they not have a truck or van anywhere in the area. No courtesy call was given to me...and as I mentioned, no one told me that I had only an hour window to get my vehicle. Due to this inconvenience, I may not be able to make it my event tomorrow. The person who I was dealing with John McClerry was literally the rudest and completely unsympathetic to my situation. He needs to proper customer service! read more
