I walked through all the aisles and happily found things that I needed to restock for my pantry. I even found items I didn't need! lol. In the refrigerator you will find Mrs Cheng's soybean milk you can find in stores. However, the best item is the fresh tofu that you usually get at a restaurant that Mrs Cheng's company makes. It comes in fresh Monday and Friday's. It also comes with a ginger sweetener that you can add a little or a lot to your tofu. My parents love it and it's a refreshing treat instead of too sugary sweets. They have so many items to choose from and the owners are kind and help you. I was looking for a peanut sauce base and spicy sauce for noodles. They showed me what noodles go with this style of sauce! So helpful and kind. I will return for more than one item. The place isn't too big but it's packed with all different items to choose from.

Wondering what the cleanest and most organized store in Chinatown is located?…read more Yes, "Cleanliness and organization" are probably two words that are never associated with Chinatown, but it does exist at Kanjico! This store located in the Mini Mall of Chinatown Cultural Plaza, near Pho Huong Lan. It's your typical grocery store of a good variety of dry goods, frozen items, and etc. No produce here though. The prices are on par with other stores. They also have Chinese newspapers. I haven't seen anyone sell the World Journal newspaper since the two bookstores closed in the cultural plaza. Overall, a really nice store. Good variety of items , good prices, and found some unique items that I haven't seen elsewhere. Owner was friendly. I feel we need more reasons to go to the Chinatown Cultural Plaza, and Kanjico can be one of them!

After we pau eat lunch at Lucky Box Restaurant, the open market was just a hop, skip, & jump away, as the open market was located at City Square Shopping Center. Ung Farm was the business my friend was telling me about. Looks like this business promotes fresh produce from farm, straight to the market and as the sign says - I guess most of the fresh farm items are from Kuhuku & Laie. After looking around, I ended up picking up a few giant carrots, ginger, bitter melon, & celery (see pic). And the best part of it all? I paid just $5 bucks! Can we say DEALAGES Yo!!! As I…read morewaited for my knives to be sharpened at Aframes-Tokyo it's a great opportunity to browse around and took mom along as we both had quite a bit of errands to do and coming early is nice as there was a lot of selections here fresh veggies all bright and beautiful arranged. We went for the seasonal persimmons as they just brought out cases of them while I eyed a few other greens I noticed that they had a discounted dollar sections for items that are dated is a nice and cost effective. The vibe here is busy but the staff is nice and friendly and is great to have alternative to support small local biz. Thank you!

As I walked through the marketplace, I came upon Sonia's Market. The fresh green long beans caught my attention. I enjoy fresh long green beans with a little pork or chicken stir fry and black bean sauce. I grabbed a bag at $1.00 a bag! Reasonably priced and great friendly service too! It's so nice to CU in the Pagoda Hotel as this newest addition the the CU Hawaii family has expanded to this newest location which benefits not just the hotel guests but us locals as well with hours from 6am to 11pm daily you're able to get chips from $1.99 or a freshly blended smoothie for this hot summer days or how about a bowl of ramyun of your choice as I did just that along with a seaweed snack for later. The down side is probably the parking though there are some in the back it can get filled if the hotel is busy and once you cook your noodles there aren't any designated tables due to the size of this spot but you do get just about everything offered like any other location...no hot items at the moment as well. With specials like BOGO Musubi or Gimbap or just something to drink where you'll able grab something all chilled and cool for your adventure they have it all right here and in such a super tiny spot they sure made it work. The staff is so nice and friendly and just knowing that there is a spot to grab something bento, Musubi or just a snack they have it here for you and all at a great convenience. Thank you!

Shopping in Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. This location of CU Hawaii is inside of the Pagoda Hotel. Entrance is on the Rycroft Street side for regular customers who are not hotel guests. Service was efficient, helpful and friendly! The interior was cozy, clean, and bright! We got the refrigerated kimbap because it was on sale: buy one, get one free! It was okay... maybe it would be better if it was heated up? It's not as good as a fresh kimbap, but it was convenient and the price was right!

There's a table outside the door for a grab-and-go snack. Inside, there's a warmer with spam musubi, a refrigerator with beverages, and other odds and ends. The female worker was rhythmically strumming a ukulele without changing a note. It was amusing, but she was not. She made it known that this is private property and that too many photos are not welcomed. She asked if I was going to buy something and I said yes... that beverage. I just felt like I needed to leave. LOL!

Ali'i Place is one of the best place to park when you're in this area of downtown as the other municipal parking is quite far and here it's $0.75 per half hour makes it very cost friendly and is the place I park for Capitol Modern and other nearby locations. It's usually at night that I do park and on this occasion going to a nearby biz this was the best option and noticed that they had this cute little mini mart just right beside the elevators. Mini puts it mildly as it's very small and cozy just one aisle filled mostly with snacks and drinks with a warm box for some Musubi though that's basically it. The shop staff there wasn't that friendly but allowed us to browse and saw a cup of cereal that I usually like to snack on though that it was a good option to purchase just a single pack as everything compact in here was nice and organized though not sure if anyone is able to know or see this spot as it's quite hidden. Looking for Nata de Coco (coconut gel) to make almond float, I asked the gal at Sun Chong Grocery Store on Hotel Street (because I was with my mom at her favorite store), if they happen to have any... She answered: No - but Jimmy's, next door has some! Me: Yay! Jimmy's Produce & Filipino Store is a cozy shop with all kinds of groceries. The shelves are neatly filled with bottles, cans, and boxes. Outside, on the sidewalk, are various types of fresh produce such as onions, oranges, and lemons. I asked the cashier where the Nata de Coco was. She pointed to the shelf behind me and said that they only have the red variety. I also saw the pandan-flavored coconut gel, so, I got a couple of bottles of those, too! I hope people like these red and pandan-flavored Nata de Coco! We shall see... Note: I arrived in Chinatown early on a Friday morning and got free street parking on King Street! Yippee! P.S. Bring cash... They don't take credit cards...

Chills and overjoyed, I just wanna cry the moment I learned that there's a Filipino market that is 30mins. drive from our tiki nest. Born and raised in Philippines, I will for sure missed the food I used to eat. And seeing stuffs from here, it gives me hope that home-sickness won't affect me too much. I usually don't cook way back but stepping a new life and lifestyle I need to, which I was thankful enough that I did (if you follow me on IG, you'll see my simple prepared dishes I cook at the nest). Anyways, I did found a Filipino goodies in here! I even jumped with happiness when I found my fave Chippy! Hahaha. This store also have fresh fish like galunggong. Even have Manila clams, shrimps and squid! Red horse you want? They got it in here too! Nido, yakult, dried fish, and my ever fave instant nood ~ lucky me (I grew up with this brand)! This place is just small but it was packed with Filipino goodies! A bit pricey for me compare to other Filipino market I've been through. But who cares? I'm in Hawaii and compare to mainland, I am blessed enough to have ample Filipino market stores to choose other than Seafood City! The cashier is an Ilokano, and t'was pretty amazing to finally talked to people in your native language in a foreign country! She's pretty friendly & really warm! I can sense the welcoming vibes! I've never been back in here but hopefully my bandit will drive me up to here if I ask him one of these days. Wing Cheong has been around for many, many years. It's located in Chinatown, along Hotel Street, next to Jimmy's Produce, near Kekaulike St. The store is small, and sells a little bit of everything. I like how they always have seasonal items and put them out front for passersby to see, and their produce and other items are always excellent quality. I recommend coming here for Lychee and Longan when it's in season. It was Chinese New Year season, and the front of the store had an array of specialty items for the occasion such as water chestnuts, arrowhead root, fried tofu and fried wheat gluten, dried mushrooms, bean thread, wood ear fungus, ginkgo nuts, dried bead curd sticks, dried oysters, black moss, and etc. It's pretty much a one stop shop! All are excellent quality! Inside the store has more things from the typical Asian sauces and condiments, tea, dried and preserved fruits and candy, and very specialty items such as dried sea cucumbers and dried fish maw. The owner and his family are super nice and very friendly. Always joking around in Cantonese AND English. Proficient in both! Overall, Wing Cheong is an excellent store. Definitely a go to store for specific items. Vegetables and other seasonal items are usually fresh and good quality. Some specific items we come here for and never disappointed are arrowhead root, water chestnuts, taro root, lotus root, lychee, and longan. Their vegetables are nice too. Many things are packaged and ready to go. The prices are very reasonable and fair.

The fruits are reasonably priced and it is not normally too crowded. I make this a mandatory stop during Lychee season, they have Lychee in different size bags and this year it was $5.99 per pound. The Lychee is a nice size, fresh and very sweet. I also love to try the different candies and dried fruits, they have everything you could imagine and I really enjoy trying different things candies & dried fruit everytime I visit.

When it's pupu time, we enjoy many snacks such as Ahi jerky, Dried ahi, Boiled peanuts, and smoked marlin dip (with crackers or chips)! That's the menu for a Hot New Business named: DA PUPU BROS This small local business is run by three brothers: Preston, Grayson, and Weston. They are home schooled children, learning about economics, marketing, public relations, etc. in the real world! Isn't this a cool concept that you want to support? I found them by strolling through the Farmer's Market at Windward Mall. Hours of operation are: Wednesdays from 2pm to 6pm and Sundays from 10am to 2pm. Service was excellent. The brothers are able to answer the questions about their products and business while their father stands by. I got a bag of boiled peanuts and a Smoked marlin dip which came with a sleeve of Ritz crackers! They were super delicious and very fresh! Come check them out! They're in the Target wing, right outside of the Windward Mall Food Court!
