Food was okay but it's nice that everything is so small so you can pick and choose what you please.

My family tried out Txapela. We had numerous tapas that were all of excellent flavor, quality and most especially not ridiculously priced. In fact, I would say they were modestly priced considering how good they were! Among what we tried were the following: seared beef, seared tuna, fried calamari and a skillet with potatoes, egg and basque chistora. Chistosa is a very flavorful sausage not to be confused with chorizo. We also tried the sangria and an "El Paxtli" made with patxaràn, a basque take on vodka (slightly sweet). The sangria was not as sweet as most places allowing the base wine to be enjoyed. The Patxi cocktail was delish! Highly recommend it! The service was excellent. Very friendly employees. The location has a lower level that was very air conditioned which was nice as it was summer and humid when we went. The ambiance was nice as well. Very nicely decorated. Clean bathrooms. read more

Open late, Txapela is part of a chain of Euskal Tabernas (Basque bar) serving pintxos (Basque canapés). We stopped in for a nightcap and snack on the way back to our hotel. Quick and easy to get to from Casa Batlo. Kids friendly- they have lots of choices in the kids menu for about €4 to €8 depending on the size and item on the menu you choose and is mostly American type food like fries and burgers and pasta for kids with ice cream. For adults they have huge variety to choose from about 51 tapas about €2 and change each, with a picture of each so you know what to expect for your meal! And yes it's delicious!! One of the best meals/tapas I had during my trip to Barcelona. At first, I thought it was a touristy trap, but I was wrong. It definitely exceeded my expectations. To start off, the menu is very easy. You need to read about one-two lines and make your choice by the pictures. We ordered about 20 different tapas (party of 5) and we were STUFFED! #5, #31 and #51 were my absolute favorites. The waitress was extremely fast and attentive and every single tapas came in less than 10 minutes. It almost felt as if they had them ready. Beers and wines came fast too. Everything was just beautiful and great. I would most definitely come back and recommend anyone looking to experience Barcelona eating the right way to come here. We sat at the bar and the bartender was extremely rude and dismissive not once but twice.I tried to order multiple times and he would just walk past me. Then when I did get his attention he would hold his hand up,and then continue doing what he was doing instead of take my order. Txapela is located in L'Eixample near the Passeig de Gracia metro stop in an area that is full of high-end luxury retailers, so for us this was the perfect for what was intended to be a 'quick bite'. But perhaps we over-indulged. The outdoor seating is great for those warm nights, and they have a photo-menu (by request) for non-Spanish speaking patrons which is grouped by warm and cold bites. We wandered into this little tapas bar while walking around Barcelona. It looked lively we stopped inside. The concept is simple: sit down at the bar and choose your tapas from behind the glass counter (or refer to your placemat -- it has photos of all of the available items). Simply point to what you want (knowing a little Spanish does help, especially if you know your numbers). When we were there it was during Happy Hour. We got 3 very large tapas and 2 small glasses of house wine for 6 Euro total! It was a great deal. I'm an adventurous eater so I just picked 3 items that looked unusual and they were. One thing I ordered was octopus and it was delicious. There are better tapas bars in the city, but this place is great for my fellow budget travelers out there. This place is a great value and is a wonderful way to sample Barcelona's tasty tapas, and I'm not so sure it caters to tourists because the menu was only in Spanish and the employees only spoke Spanish (as it SHOULD be in Spain)! Both Maitea Taberna and Pinotxo seem more highly regarded in Barcelona's Basque-style "toothpick tapas" scene. Unfortunately, Pinotxo (in the Boqueria Market) was closed for most of the summer and Maitea just seemed too far to walk from my hotel. Txapela is a corporate concept restaurant located on the upscale shopping street of Passeig de Gràcia. The warm wood interior and lively atmosphere draws you in and makes you forget about the nice, large terrace out by the street. Just a five minute wait even at 9:00 peak time in August. All 50(!) of their "pintxos" are priced right around E$2 each. This is a good and a bad thing. It's easy for less expensive products like veggie skewers to meet this target price, but it forces them to compromise on more expensive items such as seafood. For example, my "crab salad" was actually imitation "krab." Tasted good, but still... What it perhaps lacks in "fine dining," it more than makes up for in "fun dining." Best sangria price in town around E$10.25 per liter. Avoid the too-sweet cava sangria and just go with the red ("tinto"). This place was fairly close to our hotel, and I'm bummed that we didn't get to it until our last night in BCN. read more

Holy slow service, batman! Me and a buddy dropped in for a pre-dinner snack at 7pm while loitering on Passage de Garcia. Restaurant had a handful of customers, but staff couldn't be bothered to serve us without getting flagged down. This place made a terrible bikini - little sandwiches of melted cheese and jamon iberico. I mean, it's three ingredients! How do you blow that?! Bikinis are excellent when made right with good ingredients (see Tapac 24),but Txapela was truly regrettable. One of the quick tips said to try the "Clara" -- Bitburger beer + Fanta. Do yourself a favor and stick with just the Bitburger; your taste buds will thank you later. I guess 1 star for being open and 1 star for not getting food poisoning? read more

TAPAS. TAPAS. TAPAS. BCN is known for this, and this place really showcases it very well. Went here for a light lunch, and they sell tapas only! No main courses! If you opt to sit inside, you will pass by a bar of all the different cold tapas they sell, and they're made very fresh with such complex ingredients and flavors. Instead of a traditional menu, they have a placemat of all the different tapas they offered both hot and cold. I want to say there were about 80+ different types ranging from a traditional potato dish to octopus. Each of the tapas ranged about 1-4 Euros each. I really enjoy seafood and raw items, so all of my items came from the cold section (pictures attached). I will say that the price per tapas is a little on the steep side. You might be wondering why I say that as 1-4 euros doesn't sound like much but the portion is super tiny. I ordered an octopus skewer, and that already was 3 euros for such small pieces. It really felt like super mini appetizers and not traditional tapas where you can share with others. It's definitely a single person thing. read more

We tried this place right after visiting casa batllo as it was right across the street. It's a great location for dining and it was highly rated by many YouTubers. The food was good but not great. There were about 25 pintxos and 20 tapas to choose from so that was a good selection however the pintxos were not very creative. Even though they have 2 waiters that stand outside to monitor the flow of restaurant and encourage people to come. They were useless as they were not of any help. I wouldn't say this is the best place in town, but by all means go here. It's right in the center of tourist central, close to La Boqueria. This was our first real meal in Barcelona and the picture menu and bar were calling out to my starving tummy. Normally I wouldn't choose a place with picture menus, but it turned out to be okay. The pork tapas with bacon were better than some of the others on display from what I remember. We had others with seafood but they weren't as memorable. We actually ate here twice on our short trip because the food was decent, but more importantly, it's dirt cheap. The service isn't great by any means, but the price was so worth it. I stuffed my face here. To make your visit more worthy, order a Clara - Fanta and beer. It's so good you won't regret it. read more

This is my favourite place for montaditos/pinxos/mini sandwiches! Aways when someone is visiting me in Bcn we go there at least once :) There are places with this kind of food where each piece costs 1€, Txapela is a bit more expensive around 2-2.5€ for good just made hot montadito, but the quality never disappointed me. The variety is quite big and the food arrives very fast, so you can start with several and then keep ordering if you are still hungry. On average 6-8 montaditos per person is enough. I love all chicken ones, beef, brie, the mini bravas and they also offer good sizes of beer and sangria. read more

This place is awful - a total tourist trap (I counted 3 locations within blocks of each other)! I had an inkling going in, but I was tired from walking around all day and just wanted to sit down. My feelings were confirmed when we were handed menus with pages in a bunch of different languages including English, Japanese and Russian. Although the prices might seem cheap, around 2 euros, you are paying PER PIECE. Or maybe I should say per bite. For example at another restaurant I think we paid around 4 euros for a plate of 4 croquetas and at Txapela it was something like 1.85/each. Total rip off! The food wasn't even very good. Most everything is pre-made and sitting behind the glass on the counter and presented on a piece of stale toast. I will say, I felt bad for the girls working behind the counter. The beef was still bloody and very medium rare, which is not how I like my meat at all. I was hoping I didn't leave with food poisoning. With an ideal location in the heart of the shopping district I believe this spot thrives off tourists as they did have great service and were open on Sunday. Our options were limited which is how we ended up eating here and I was slightly disappointed with the food since I had heard it is hard to find a bad restaurant in Barcelona. For tapas, this place was average. It's in a touristy area with a lot of footfall but that's no excuse. They have a wide selection here and some are much better than others.
