    Sangria and disappearing tapas
    Andra B.

Great sangria and tapas fir a late night stop. Really good crème brûlée that wasn't on the menu, great waiter recommendation!

Open late, Txapela is part of a chain of Euskal Tabernas (Basque bar) serving pintxos (Basque canapés). We stopped in for a nightcap and snack on the way back to our hotel. Like the fish in a sushi bar cold case, you can look at all the pre-made options (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/UctYpPBINFWYAP5VDagJiw?select=QgT1NgOf7Ig208a8mC_Ukg) or order from the picture menu (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/UctYpPBINFWYAP5VDagJiw?select=JutRowcfx5VnIi5yvCsILg) They have something like 50 varieties to choose from. We ended up trying a salmon pintxo (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/UctYpPBINFWYAP5VDagJiw?select=VGEYJu-ww6ag0eFIRRMUhA) which tasted fine. Good for a quick bite if you're walking by, but not destination worthy if you're just visting. Fun atmosphere late at night. The bar guy was very friendly.

Quick and easy to get to from Casa Batlo. Kids friendly- they have lots of choices in the kids menu for about €4 to €8 depending on the size and item on the menu you choose and is mostly American type food like fries and burgers and pasta for kids with ice cream. For adults they have huge variety to choose from about 51 tapas about €2 and change each, with a picture of each so you know what to expect for your meal! And yes it's delicious!! Our personal favs were number 51-salmon with caviar, number 19 (€2.05) chicken and number 9 Aha amazing fish fritter woth wakame. Enjoy!!

Tapas and coffee really good! Customer service not so great..

Pros: The tapas were yummy and So was the coffee!! The hostess was super friendly. Cons: Unfortunately ,as good as the food was the customer experience was HORRIBLE! We sat at the bar and the bartender was extremely rude and dismissive not once but twice.I tried to order multiple times and he would just walk past me. Then when I did get his attention he would hold his hand up,and then continue doing what he was doing instead of take my order. It took about 10-15 minutes before I finally was able to get an order in through which I believe was the house manager, but she was just as unenthusiastic to help. Finally he got to me and my friend when there was like no one else to serve. The house manager still hadn't put in my order apparently after I had spoke to her. At the point you could tell there was some type of issue with us being there. I highly would not recommend!!

Steps away from the wretched food at Qu Qu was Txpela and at the bare minimum it was a step in the right direction. Basically you pay a few euros for a two bit sandwich or piece of bread with different stuff on it. 99% of the food is already made and sitting in a glass case to view. Somehow I think that they think this is a good marketing strategy, to me it's disgusting that they just let everything sit out all day. They also have a picture menu for point and click access. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/UctYpPBINFWYAP5VDagJiw?select=aSJQL9GqlZt5dRINXTBNNQ#aSJQL9GqlZt5dRINXTBNNQ Mini Club Sandwich - Not bad but not that great. I wish it had been served hot. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/UctYpPBINFWYAP5VDagJiw?select=UC2MzE_e6M9FoThjQVp89A#UC2MzE_e6M9FoThjQVp89A Unidentifiable Stuff on Bread - Pretty sure it was a combination of seafood, mush, and some other stuff. But without getting into too fine of details, this one was again just okay. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/UctYpPBINFWYAP5VDagJiw?select=Z9okcfFtyFEDUE_wDqFtcA#Z9okcfFtyFEDUE_wDqFtcA Foie on Toast and Octopus on Stick - This was the least bad thing we had that night. The layer of foie was razor thin but it tasted good. The octopus was nice and tender and had some flavor. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/UctYpPBINFWYAP5VDagJiw?select=DjjnTMN1jS7s0IYMxo862g#DjjnTMN1jS7s0IYMxo862g Sliders - One was just a burger and the other I think was heart or some other offal. Regardless, both were dry, tough, chewy, bland, etc. Bleh. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/UctYpPBINFWYAP5VDagJiw?select=DjjnTMN1jS7s0IYMxo862g#DjjnTMN1jS7s0IYMxo862g Overall, better than the prior meal but still a far cry from anything I'd call "good." Never again!

Holy slow service, batman! Me and a buddy dropped in for a pre-dinner snack at 7pm while loitering on Passage de Garcia. Restaurant had a handful of customers, but staff couldn't be bothered to serve us without getting flagged down. This place made a terrible bikini - little sandwiches of melted cheese and jamon iberico. I mean, it's three ingredients! How do you blow that?! Bikinis are excellent when made right with good ingredients (see Tapac 24),but Txapela was truly regrettable. One of the quick tips said to try the "Clara" -- Bitburger beer + Fanta. Do yourself a favor and stick with just the Bitburger; your taste buds will thank you later. I guess 1 star for being open and 1 star for not getting food poisoning?

TAPAS. TAPAS. TAPAS. BCN is known for this, and this place really showcases it very well. Went here for a light lunch, and they sell tapas only! No main courses! If you opt to sit inside, you will pass by a bar of all the different cold tapas they sell, and they're made very fresh with such complex ingredients and flavors. Instead of a traditional menu, they have a placemat of all the different tapas they offered both hot and cold. I want to say there were about 80+ different types ranging from a traditional potato dish to octopus. Each of the tapas ranged about 1-4 Euros each. I really enjoy seafood and raw items, so all of my items came from the cold section (pictures attached). I will say that the price per tapas is a little on the steep side. You might be wondering why I say that as 1-4 euros doesn't sound like much but the portion is super tiny. I ordered an octopus skewer, and that already was 3 euros for such small pieces. It really felt like super mini appetizers and not traditional tapas where you can share with others. It's definitely a single person thing.

NGL, I'm someone who gets overwhelmed and gets tunnel vision. I'm a sheep following the shepherd-- in this case, if you throw your body & a menu in front of me, I'll easily walk in. I'd seen great reviews online about their namesake pintxos, but the menu had so many options and none that clicked with what I was looking for. I was hungry, so I sent it and ordered a few items from the classic tapas: the Squid in Ink Croquette and the Patatas Bravas. The croquette was incredible and so flavorful, while the Patatas Bravas were the complete opposite. The potatoes tasted bland and stale, and the sauce on top was just... meh. I hated how let down I was!! As I was finishing up my meal, I noticed a few people coming in and were sitting at the bar--not usually the most go-to spot when there are plenty of tables open. However, as soon as they sat down, they began grabbing items from the display. I went to check it out and lo and behold--PINTXOS!!! I asked my waiter, and he explained the process: pick what you want, enjoy and pay for what charge you grab at the end. And honestly? They looked and tasted so much better and were way more affordable than what I ordered!! Disappointed I spent so much money, but consider this a lesson for anyone reading!

The place had a welcoming vibe, and pintxos were on offer, so we figured why not? Overall, it was a good lunch, but the selection of pintxos was pretty limited - not nearly as robust, creative, or flavorful as a few other places we'd tried earlier in the week across town. Nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out either. Service was okay - efficient but not particularly warm or engaging. You definitely get the sense this is a spot that sees a lot of tourists, and the staff may be a little weary of that constant flow. At the table next to us, a group of fellow American travelers were all eating burgers and fries... which kind of summed it up. That said, the location is convenient, and if you're nearby and want a quick bite in a casual setting, it's not a bad choice. Just don't expect to be blown away. 4 stars

I arrived shortly after they opened and already there were 3 customers ordering Cafe Con Leches and Xuxos. I did the same with my Xuxo to go. I saw they had Octopus Galician style and despite the am hour couldn't resist. Pinotxo's version was very good-that said, I've had more tender Octopus. Definitely a Tapa size and pricey for the portion but gave me my fix for one of my favorite dishes before leaving Barcelona. I saw Tripe and Beef cheeks on the menu and asked one of the servers which one? She gave me a look of "I can't decide"meaning can't go wrong with either. Ordered the Beef cheeks as I've never had it. Rich, decadent and definitely not a breakfast meal-I liked it! I was told the white cubes were collagen and not fat. Definitely a dish to try. Cafe Con Leche was excellent! The Xuxo (one of Jose Andres's favorites) was amazing! Like a donut, a little bit of flakiness of a croissant and filled with this rich, delicious Crema and as if that wasn't enough coated with sugar. We loved it! One of those delicacies that sells out early. Service was engaged and friendly from all of the people behind the counter. They are located inside the Market at one of the corners (Tamarit/Urgell) before the exit. Make this stop for Xuxos and some delicacies you won't find at your typical spots in the area.
