Barbacoa pork on green chile and stuffed mushrooms-delicioso!
    Mark O.

My favorite tapas stop in Madrid and wish we had another night to come back. It is small, crammed and full of positive energy. Mostly younger crowd but all ages enjoying. Don't be turned off so just slide you way in and up and down the bar to see the absolutely best looking display of pinxtos! They are all around €3. Loved the Christorro chorizos wrapped in baked chips, the Barbacoa pork on a green chile - fabulous!!, mushrooms stuffed with jamon, and a strange looking but delicious potato chip and jamon pinxto with a micro-fried egg on top. House red wine was decent and cheap as was the beer. The staff was hustling their butts off but smiling the whole time. Tried my fractured Spanish when we paid and the staff person was so nice they poured us both a gratis Patxaran, a digestif from the Basque Country.

eggplant pincho, egg and potato pincho, and cheese croquette

I went to this place with pretty high expectations after reading all the reviews but i was let down.. high points: they have a large variety of small dishes, 'pinchos' and they all look really delicious. they have great service. low points: the pinchos look waaaay better than they taste. i dunno, maybe its what i picked but they werent that good. they were ok. i had the eggplant which was the best one, then a potato and egg one which was also ok. then a cheese croquette which was....alllriigght.. their food disappointed me. and worse they dont even have anywhere to sit. its all bar seats which dont even have stools. which they definitely should get some stools. they even have space for some tables but they dont have any and instead the center of the place is empty. if they had seating they would make the place a lot better. the tinto verano was good. but come one..4.50 for a glass when a bottle of good wine at any store is 2 euros.. either way the most important part..the food...was not very good.

Mini burgers are a must from the pinchos display!

One of the better pincho selections along the popular cava Baja tapas street - not for those who like a seated meal!

El Pimiento Verde - Traditional tripe stew

With a decently sized menu, there will be no shortage of dishes to try. We elected to go for some Spanish classics and their featured dishes, which included their Creamy Rice with Lobster, Traditional Tripe Stew, and Aged Beer Rib-eye. The creamy rice with lobster is essentially a risotto, with the rice being cooked al dente. While the texture is nice, because of the smaller portion of lobster and the lack of flavor, by the end it feels like you're just left with a bowl of undercooked rice. The traditional tripe stew was quite good, with the beef being extremely tender and chewy. The rib-eye itself was a large cut, however, a good portion of the meat is fat. Additionally, it's only seasoned with a light touch of salt, so at the end of the day also lacking a bit. If you want to come to El Pimiento Verde, it's primarily for the ambience. The food itself is fine, though nothing to call home about. If you're short on time and looking for places to experience Spanish cuisine, this is probably one restaurant that can be skipped.
