From the initial sit-down with representative Garrett, to the movers themselves, especially Dave and Artie, the move went very well, and we are very pleased with the service and professionalism that this company has. Not a single item was broken. Care was taken at all aspects of the job including the preparation of move with covering floors and other items in the house. Having heard many horror stories of movers and having personally experienced them ourselves, we have to say that Hemsted's is the best. You will not be disappointed.

Several items had serious damage and had to be disposed of. The damage claim took 10 months to process. Processing the order for service was very efficient at origin, but Hemsted's driver and the failure in responsiveness for the claim was very unprofessional. Overall I rate my move to have been quite disappointing. -- This company has excellent reviews from years ago, but none lately. Perhaps new owners? Something surely has changed.

We needed a crew with a piano dolly and experience to unload an upright piano we agreed to 'store'…read more for a friend - we definitely came out ahead on this one! Steve communicated clearly and quickly and arrived on time to do the job. He and his 2 employees were friendly and expert. They worked slowly and smoothly and they got the piano onto the dolly, unloaded it from the truck and got it up the 3 steps to my small front porch, then made the lift to get the piano off the porch and over the threshold and into the house. Then they maneuvered it to where we wanted it, and very slowly, gently and carefully moved the piano off the dolly and onto the floor. Every move was done slowly and smoothly with an eye on keeping the piano balanced on the dolly - even though they had to shift the way the piano say on the dolly to get it up the stairs and into the house, it was all smooth, slow and gentle. Great job - I highly recommend them!

They quoted me a price of 1100 to move from Chico to Napa, the price was to include packing and Unpacking of my things! There were supposed to show up at 9asm with a crew to knock out the packing the night before, THEY ACTUALLY SHOWED UP AT 6pm, without Boxes, or BOX TAPE or Bubble wrap or anything, and no crew just two of them, Luckily I figured out I was in for a screwing days before when they wouldn't return my calls for days on end. Since I couldn't contact them, I pretty much moved my high value and important the previous couple of days with my Dad and a Pickup truck. THANK GOD I DID! Since I could contact them, and they wouldn't return calls left for them the week prior ti the move, I wasn't counting on them at all. Imaging my surprise when they finally called me at 1030pm the night before they are supposed come over and pack me up. During that conversation I learned that they wouldn't be able to pack till after 4pm the next day. Which would mean we would be at it till the wee hours of the morning, as I had to go from Napa to Salinas thursday after the move I needed to be in bed around 9, so I decided to stay up late and pack my stuff MYSELF! LUCKY I DID SINCE WHEN THEY ARRIVED THEY WERE NOT PREPARED TO PACK ME AT ALL! THE NEXT DAY, WEDNESDAY 4pm came and went without movers, so did 5pm, and finally at 5-30 I called to see what was up, (Still enough time to call a replacement company!)they said they were on the way over and would be there shortly, .... I waited! By the time they arrived I had everything packed EXCEPT the dishes in the Kitchen. So I asked if they had any buble wrap, nope of course not, WHGAT WAS I THINKING! n I used towels and shirts and stuff to pack my breakables while they loaded the packed boxes into the truck. We argreed thatthey woyld be over the next morning at 8am to move to Napa. 8 came and went, 9 came and went, 10 came and went 11 came and went, NO CALL, even looked for smoke signal, the sky was blue. My friends had started a pool to bet on If they would call, and when. Finally at 12-30 hey called and were on the way over, RIGHT, we did this one before! I called my Mom and asked for a HUGE favor to have her drive down to Salinas to pick up my Dog, Charlie, from the pet hospital where he was recovering from his emergency surgery. Luckily she could and would, but I would owe her! When they finally arrived they were able to load up my things fairly quickly, they packed NOTHING, and they insisted that would dismantle my Ikea Queen size bed, WHICH THEY WERE UNABLE TO. I AM DISABLED and have lost most of the use of my hands so basically I had to leave my bed, as I can't dismate it, AND will now have to buy a new one, When they quoted me a price we said agreed to $1100 to PACK AND MOIVE, THEY DIDN'T PACK A DARN THING, AND SINCE THEY SHOWED UP WITHOUT A SINGLE THIUNG TO DO Packing, it was plainly obvious, they NEVER intended to pack me, and I was in for a screwing the entire time. Once ALL MY THINGS were in the truck, they wanted to be paid. I told them I did not need them to haul away the stuff from the Garage, and we were just doing the move part of our agreement. So I paid him the $1200 in cash, and he had the audacity to WHINE that they were expecting $1,500. Well I was-expecting to be PACKED, I was expecting my bed to be dismantled and I was expecting them to arrive ON TIME ready to work. I single handily load more of the things than the two movers did! When we got to Napa they basically just threw all the boxes into the living room and took off. Nothing was unpacked, matter of fact the boxes didn't even make it into the rooms for which they were destined! Moves are NEVER fun, and I chose these guys because even though theyr quote was HIGHER than 2 men with a Truck, it was SUPPOSED to be a hands off move, with them doing the work. Nothing could have been FURTHER from the truth! ALL I CAN SAY IS, UNLESS YOU LIKE PAIN, and do't respect yourself enough to hire quality mover, DO NOT USE THESE GUYS! I highly suggest looking into Two Men with a Truck, these guys are USELESS. When they didn't call me back in over a week, I should have made arrangements with TWO EN AND A TRUCK, and got the move don e right!

Her house sold very fast and she didn't have much time to pack and get to her new house. They quoted her to pact up EVERYTHING and get it all to her new house and setup. My mom didn't want to wait and wanted the move to go faster, so I drove to her house and helped. We packed everything. All she had was a open box for her bedding and a single duffle bag. We loaded up both of our large SUV's with her small boxes and made about 5 trips each, 15 total. Her new house was loaded with all the boxes and all that need to be moved was the furniture. The day of the move..... An hour after the movers were set to arrive we called to see where they were. They hadn't left yet. They showed up an hour later. (total of 2 hours late) We were both very anxious to get started but the movers were anxious for their next cigarette. Probably coming down off of something.... FYI: Old house and new house and my furniture all smelled like smoke for days. YUCK They moved so slow, texting nonstop between walking back and forth from the house. About 6 hours in (couldn't figure out what was taking so long) Sherry shows up and starts yelling at me asking why it's taking so long. I was like: 1. Who the hell are you? 2. I don't have any authority over your people. Sherry then accused us of buying more furniture between the 2 days of the quote and them moving us. Not true. Then she accused us of taking more then we were going to...... Not sure what possessions of my mothers was going to leave...idiots Not only did we not "take more" or "buy more" we packed 70% and moved most of it ourselves! Next bad thing to happen was the truck was too small. One of the guys told me they didn't do a very good job of packing the truck so they'll need to make more trips. Which I was billed for. When we got to the new house their low quote turned out to be a down payment... I packed everything and moved all the boxes. All they had to do was move the furniture, easy. We refused to pay their ransom..... and her comes Sherry flying down the street. Her tires were actually squealing when she came around the corner and when she came to a stop you could actually smell her transmission. I told her that I wouldn't pay over 3x what their quote was and she told the movers "toss out her furniture from the truck onto the lawn and lets get out of here. So I guess they got us, the thugs. I gave her my credit card and the men started moving everything in, almost. I guess it was quitting time because they started moving furniture into the garage instead of bringing it into the house. Then they said "all done" and left. The next day my new neighbor came over to say hello. She just moved onto the street to about 2 weeks ago and oddly enough used the same movers. It was so funny the first thing she asked was "how was that bitch Sherry?" lol She's a real Road Hard and Put Away Wet kind of gal. My husband has served 9 years in the US military. We currently returned to our hometown, Redding,…read moreCalifornia. Our household goods were shipped from our last base and are currently being stored at North State Van and Storage. The home we are planning to move into is currently occupied by renters, so we had requested an extension of storage through the military. Prior to our extension expiring, we received a message from Sherry Hoyer of North State Van and Storage, explaining that our storage was expiring and that we were going to be held responsible for charges incurred after that date. I quickly called her back and explained that the military was in the process of approving our extension and that I actually had nothing to do with it. I also suggested that she contact them, as they would surely be able to assist her. Sherry, preceded to tell me that if she did not hear from them, my belongings would either convert to private pay, leaving me with a bill of $200+ per month, or it would become her property. She was rude, nasty, and made disparaging comments about the military. I contacted the military and our 3rd party carrier and explained my conversation with Sherry. Both reassured me that the information Sherry had given me was completely false and that she had absolutely no right to call me personally; that any issue she had was to be taken up with them directly. While I am relieved to find out there is absolutely no validity to her threats and "scare tactics," I am still taken aback and appalled by how she handled the situation. The level of customer service was non existent. North State Van and Storage is a sad representation of Bekins and definitely not the type of business we need in Redding. Additionally, the comments she made regarding the military were extremely offensive and definitely made me question whether, North State Van and Storage should handle military shipments in the future. Sherry Hoyer is unprofessional, confrontational, and lacking the customer service qualities that I expect from a business. I would never recommend using North State Van and Storage, because as long as someone like her is the owner, they will be ran according to her standards; which are extremely low. Redding is a small town and good customer service goes a long way. I plan to file as many formal complaints, write reviews on public forums, and use every opportunity I have to detour anyone else from mistakenly using their services. That's how unsatisfied I am with her and North State Van and Storage.
