Just wanted to give a great shout out to Hemsted's Moving and Storage in Redding. CA. We just used them for our move to Oregon. From the initial sit-down with representative Garrett, to the movers themselves, especially Dave and Artie, the move went very well, and we are very pleased with the service and professionalism that this company has. Not a single item was broken. Care was taken at all aspects of the job including the preparation of move with covering floors and other items in the house. Having heard many horror stories of movers and having personally experienced them ourselves, we have to say that Hemsted's is the best. You will not be disappointed. read more

Hemsted's moved me to Oregon. The moving crew mishandled a desk and literally broke it's structure and it arrived missing pieces. Upon delivery the driver became defensive about the damage he had caused. He then left without assembling the items he had disassembled, a three-hour process for me and a helper. Several items had serious damage and had to be disposed of. The damage claim took 10 months to process. Processing the order for service was very efficient at origin, but Hemsted's driver and the failure in responsiveness for the claim was very unprofessional. Overall I rate my move to have been quite disappointing. -- This company has excellent reviews from years ago, but none lately. Perhaps new owners? Something surely has changed. read more

I won't move forward after meeting with the owner today for an estimate. My wife and are downsizing and much of what we have accumulated over the last 46 years won't fit. The plan is to sell and/or donate much of it so all we are moving is our bedroom, living room and about 50% of the kitchen. I have already moved everything out of the garage. Bob seemed to be upset by this and was telling me what we were going to do, ultimately storming out of my home. I followed him out asking what I did wrong, all I want is an estimate to which he came back and told me off using expletives including the f-bomb then told me to rent a U-Haul because he wouldn't move me. Unnecessary, unprofessional, unacceptable and juvenile. If my move is too small or he doesn't believe what I plan to move he has the option of politely declining my business not speaking to me with anger and vulgarities. read more

We can't say enough how appreciative we are for the help Hemsted's has done for us. Unfortunately, we did not know about Hemsteds and booked with an internet company 4 months in advance to move us from Redding California to Colorado. We thought we had done our due diligence checking an online company with reviews and felt comfortable with the sales person we had contact with several times. When the day to move arrived, we received a call from the company that the movers would not be there that day and they "were working on it" when they might be able to come. We were closing escrow and could not wait for an answer. Fortunately, 1 week before our move we heard about Hemsteds from a friend who used them to move across the country 7 years ago. We called them to get a back up quote just "in case" our biggest concern came true (movers not showing up). Bob, the owner came to Shingletown where we lived to give us a quote and told us he would be our "life line" if problems happen. When we got the call the movers weren't coming, we immediately called Bob on a Friday afternoon. Monday morning he had a crew of 4 very efficient, professional, and courteous movers get all our stuff in 2 trucks and stored them until he could find a truck to go to Colorado. This allowed us to vacate the house and drive to Colorado. We expected since we were a last minute move, that our stuff could be 2-4 weeks in arriving. On the day we arrived at our new home in Colorado, we received a call that they were sending a truck with all of our things to arrive 5 days later! They arrived promptly at the agreed upon time. Brian, the driver, and his hired local mover were extremely courteous, efficient, and patient with us. We did not have one thing broken or lost! Additionally, Hemsteds did not require a deposit before moving, whereas the online mover required a 20% deposit that we had put down 4 months before our move (and only have received half of this back so far). They were great loading the things into the van from the house. The loading into the storage unit was a nightmare. They just threw stuff in there. Tubs with no lids had boxes packed on top of them, crushing the contents. Boxes marked fragile were put anywhere. Every piece of furniture has new nicks and chips. The storage unit had to be unloaded and restacked to be able to access things. Unbelievable lack of care! read more

Don't call Hemsteds as they will not show up at the appointed time. They won't even call you to tell you they will be hours late. If they are irresponsible to merely show up when they promise to show up, then we don't want to trust our life treasures with them. You shouldn't either. read more

Shelly was very courteous and helpful to send workers out to help with our packing and to also keep me informed during the whole process. Without a doubt the best moving company ever. Moving companies rarely get good reviews. I can't say enough good things about this company. They moved me from San Jose to Portland, Oregon, and then back to Pleasanton, CA. The guys who load and unload the truck are professional, helpful, kind, and careful. In the moves, TWO things got broken. One was a lamp that the packing guy, who was not part of Hemsted's, I hired him independently, didn't pack well, and the other was a spice jar. That's it. Everything else was delivered intact, on time, loaded and unloaded quickly, carefully and efficiently. I had to move the date of pickup due to some problems getting into the rental, no problem, they just accommodated it. They stored our stuff for over a week, with no extra charge that I could find. I can't recommend this company enough. They operate throughout the US, so consider them for your move. If I move again, which I'm sure I will, I'll be calling them again. The movers themselves were great, very professional, knew what they were doing,so helpful, hard-working, courteous, and did a great job for us. They moved us to two locations in Chico. Bob Wilson is a moving-sensei. When I called Hemsted's Moving and Storage and explained that I had 2 weeks to move out of a house I had lived in for 26 years, Bob came over the next day. With his calm guidance and experienced advice (I may have been a bit panicked), the move was organized and executed in a timely manner. This has to be the most unprofessional, incompetent and all around horrible moving company in existence. After charging $15,000 for a move from So. Cal to No. Cal, they had the audacity to hold my possessions hostage for three days explaining that they had other jobs. Perhaps you should hire someone with a brain to do your booking. Next, they took apart and damaged multiple high dollar cabinets and refused to listen to me when I told them they were putting the doors on wrong. Every magnet on every cabinet was broken or cracked and had to be replaced. My dining room table is destroyed among countless other pieces of furniture. After multiple calls and complaints, they refuse to fix anything. I hope they enjoy the lawsuit they will be served with shortly. This company is a joke and a total scam. read more

The local guys who assisted on the move (Sam, Scott, and Ron) were also completely awesome. This is the most genuine, honest, caring set of guys anywhere - not once was I concerned about my belongings, and not a thing was damaged in the move. As said before.. Hemsted's is a great mover! They are a local branch of North American movers and have been moving since the 1930s. The local team was courteous, professional, and efficient. My move was a home downsize from a large Redding home to a Contra Costa county apartment, with a second stop at a storage unit. Hemsted's pricing was a median bid between 3 solicited bids. They honored the bid and the move went largely seamless. When our personal packing was off schedule, Bob, a Hemsted manager, competently adjusted the staffing at the last minute and safely packed and loaded our belongings. No fragile items have yet been found broken. The packers were generous with packing paper, but the end cost on materials was as estimated. Bob will work with you to reach your budget. Hemsted has my thanks and compliments. I would use them again. read more

The owner was very professional and quite nice. We used Hemsted's because our realtor said they were great. I have to say not so much. When the movers showed up they didn't start until my husband signed paperwork saying everything was just fine and no damage. He questioned the guy and he said he didn't like doing that. So the guy said fine they would just go back to Redding. So my husband signed. As the day went on I was unpacking boxes and was on a ladder putting things away. And what did I hear a LOUD crash as someone dropped a box. I didn't get down to check as I thought they would come in and tell me about. THEY DIDN'T. I got a long distance phone call and it slipped my mind. Things did not get better. They didn't put my entertainment center together or my hutch or my bar, or my 3 curio cabinets or finish putting the guest bedroom bed together. According to the industry standards if the movers take it apart they are to put it back together. I know as I called several and they all said the same thing. At the end of the day they said they had to go as they had another job first thing in the morning and had to get back to Redding. I questioned them about finishing and they said they were through. If you are moving and you know where you are moving I would advise you to spend $50.00 to 100.00 for a different mover to come from the area and give you a quote. I would NEVER use this company again. I have moved from CA to AZ and from AZ to Redding. I used Hemsted's to move to Roseville and am very sorry I did. Also somewhere along the way a plastic container with Christmas decorations that can never be replaced as they were bought for my kids by their deceased father disappeared. Go figure. And no it was not the box that fell and broke. I have parts that went with the broken stuff. read more

Everything arrived the day after they picked it up and in excellent condition. Scott and Dave delivered our belongings and worked very hard to set everything up. They were always communicating with us to ask where we would like our things to go and was very careful not to allow the walls or belongings to get damaged. He put my stuff in storage and then shipped it to me, again after working out a deal because I was ready to tell him to dump everything to save money. Being somewhat of a control freak, I normally would not even entertain the idea of hiring a moving company. However, with our last move, we didn't have an option. After being given the run around with another "well known" moving company we had been given a referral to, we happened to come across Hemsted's in an online search. I've heard so many bad experiences from people about moving companies, it was difficult to pick one that I didn't know much about. The fact that they were available on somewhat of a short notice and at a fraction of the rate we'd been quoted from that other "well known" moving company, made me think this was going to be a major headache. I was wrong. Two guys showed up right on time on moving day. The respectfulness they exuded made me think that we must have lucked out and had the owners of the company moving us. Guess I was wrong again, they weren't the owners. One would never guess that, though. Scott and Alan worked their tails off. ALL. Day. Long. Even with lots of special circumstances in our move, including packing up only part of our house, a nursing infant that had to nap in a bed that would eventually be packed up and the aforementioned control freak that eventually let go because the two gentlemen from Hemsted's gave her plenty of reassurance within their actions that they were fully capable of handling the job ... even without my supervision. ;) I can't thank them enough for that. I moved this past weekend from an apartment, and a large fully packed storage unit, to a house. After calling around for estimates, Hemsted's hourly rate seemed the most reasonable. The movers who arrived were Scott and Wayne. They arrived right on time, if not 15 minutes early. They were extremely professional, fast but careful, and REALLY respected our furniture, which a prior national moving company had not. They put furniture together that needed to be assembled and if they saw me struggling to move something in the house after we arrived, one of them would run over quickly to help me or take over. Moving is an unpleasant experience, but with Scott and Wayne, it was almost pleasurable. We know we are moving in a couple of years and my husband asked me to "bookmark" their company, so we don't forget who we used. I HIGHLY recommend Hemsted's to anyone looking for movers. To whom it may concern, I just recently had the experience of dealing with this company, Hemsted's Moving and Storage out of Redding, CA. I have money to spend to move and willing to go with a company that would make me feel at ease because, let's face it, moving to begin with is extremely stressful. However, I have never dealt with someone as rude as the owner of this company, Bob Wilson. He was rushed and flustered on the phone when I spoke with him to make an appointment to come to my home. He immediately made me feel that I was an inconvenience to him. I decided to push forward to the next step of the home evaluation. Not only was he 30 minutes late without a courtesy call, but he also wouldn't even look up from his paperwork to say hello. He interrupted me when I asked simple questions- things that I needed to know for peace of mind. He made a point to tell me he's been in this business for 30 years- at least a dozen times- without fully answering my questions. He talked to me like I was an idiot. He made me feel like he was too busy to help me. And the worst part was he quoted me the amount that was way past the paperwork he e-mailed me. I was confused and told him he quoted me a different amount. Where he then excused himself that I was correct but he felt the larger amount would have me covered. I get that, better to over-quote than under-quote. However, his tactics were unprofessional and as a sales-woman I felt that I was the one being jerked around. I strongly encourage anyone who is looking to move to think twice about using this company. I have 3 friends looking to move in the next month (using me as their guinea pig) and they will no doubt be working with another business after I tell them how I was just treated. I already have spoken to two other companies willing to come to my home tomorrow for an estimate. Both were extremely considerate and patient with my questions. I will be sure to let those in my area moving to know there are other options- despite what Mr. Wilson had to say which was "good luck". I am an honest person raised with morals and manners. I have never written a review about any company before. But I felt I had to express my freedom of speech about this company. Movers, be ware! This is the second time I have used Hemsted's Moving, and I would hire them a third time. Called and booked with Patty, who scheduled Bob, to come evaluate my load. Bob is fast, professional and has a great sense of humor. 3 guys showed up on time, on moving day, fully prepared. Scot handled the quick paper work as Jimmy and Arnie set up. I was completely moved out of an upstairs apartment (including a 400 pound safe and lots of pre-packed boxes, 2 kayaks, 2 bicycles and miscellaneous furniture in less than 2 hours. These guys do not waste time. They moved me into my new apartment, upstairs, just as fast. Not one single item was broken or damaged. I kind of expected something to be broken, thinking it comes with moving, but nothing was broken. They also used protective covers on both apartments in areas that could have been damaged from the move-no damage at either apartment.
