He hung new drywall, taped, mudded, and left it with a clean level 5 finish. He also demoed parts of the exterior, installed new sheathing, and put up a vapor barrier--all done properly. As a working contractor myself, I've dealt with plenty of subs. What stood out most with Juan was his follow-through. He stayed on top of things, communicated well, and saw the job through to the end. That kind of dependability is rare and appreciated.

I needed drywall repaired on the ceiling in an upstairs bedroom that was damaged from a roof leaf. After collecting about 7 different quotes, Juan was one of the most affordable options but also left a good impression on me with his quick and clear communication. After texting him on a Monday night that I wanted to work with him, he was able to come out on Wednesday morning to start and had the job done before noon on Thursday! I couldn't be happier with how the project turned out and am beyond happy that I went with Juan! HIGHLIGHTS: * Responded to my initial message quickly and got me a quote the same day * Fair and reasonable pricing * Able to schedule me in right away * Communicated a start time through text and arrived on time * Worked efficiently and quietly so I was able to work from home without interruption * Extremely clean... took off his shoes in the house and swept up before leaving each day * Beautiful work... I'm not a drywall expert but I'd never even know there was a hole there! * Final cost matched the initial quote Honestly, I have absolutely nothing but great things to say about the experience. I'm now looking around my house to find other projects that I can hire Juan to complete because I'm that satisfied with his work and will absolutely recommend him to anyone I know that needs a contractor in the Austin area.

MD Excavation & Landscaping - The beginning of the shed demolition

    MD Excavation & Landscaping

I had MD Excavation remove a rotting shed in my backyard. Upon arrival, I showed them the shed and…read morethat there was a lot of debris around the shed that the previous owners had left. I asked them to completely demolish the shed and remove all debris around the shed. I had to leave for an appointment when they approximately had 30 minutes of work left. They asked to be paid before I left so they could drop off the debris at the landfill. I trusted them, so I paid them and went to my appointment. I came home a few hours later and the job was about 90% done. There was still a significant amount of debris left that took me about 45 minutes to clean up myself. I wish I would have taken a picture of what they did not finish but I forgot. I did get a picture of the debris that I ended up having to pick up and dispose of in my own trash can. If these were items the landfill didn't accept (I highly doubt it), then that should have been communicated to me earlier. It's extremely annoying to not have a job done to completion. Additionally, I wish I didn't leave them unsupervised so I could have asked to complete the job before they got paid.

Mario was very responsive initially. He assured me his company was credible and capable of doing the job at a high quality. I trusted him. Initially he seemed very responsive but many issues arose that ended up costing us a lot more money and stress. At surface level the project looks good (as you can see in the photos he uploaded to his company's yelp profile) but once they were "done" the real issues began. Some of the plants they planted were not planted well and one was clearly struggling and he promised he'd be back to replace it but he has not returned and is not responding to my calls and texts. The xeriscape areas they created with crushed granite and large rocks, as well as the mulched areas, are all growing grass or weeds despite pointing it out to him before they finished. Again, he assured he'd fix it. The worst and costliest part is the sprinkler system. We've had to hire a sprinkler "expert" at this point after Mario assured us his company knew how to convert our sprinkler system to a drip system. Plants were not getting watered, pipes were busted, and they also crossed our sprinkler system with our neighbor's system causing most of our newly planted plants to not get water. The sprinkler professional we hired found broken sprinkler heads, uncapped sprinkler heads, and also notified us that the materials Mario's company used for the sprinkler conversion were very poor quality. There were many inconsistencies in how they did the sprinkler work. What was supposed to be a week long, affordable project has turned out to be much longer and much costlier. I chose to go with Mario's company because he offered a good rate, seemed trustworthy, but also because I appreciate giving our business to small business owners. I think I've learned my lesson this time. Mario's company has so much potential but accountability and follow through are very important. I will be redacting all of my referrals.
