For those of you who know me, know that I love my pooch Ryno. He's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and yes, is treated like royalty. I have yet to meet a Cavalier that hasn't been sweet, awesome, and overall just a great catch! I have not adopted from this rescue, but know people who have, I've also met a few people affiliated with the rescue at various meet ups and dog shows throughout IL and even WI. :-) You couldn't ask for a bunch of better people! Here's a little about their mission (taken from their website): GCCR's mission is to help ensure the health and security of abused, abandoned, and otherwise endangered Cavalier King Charles Spaniels by rehabilitating and placing Cavaliers from shelters and similar situations, by assisting breeders and owners in finding new homes for their Cavaliers, and by providing to the public educational materials and consultation regarding Cavalier health and care. The growing popularity of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels has prompted increased breeding by unscrupulous breeders and puppy mills. This development suggests that owners' concerns about health as well as the number of Cavaliers in need will only grow. The convenient Wheaton location of the facility is great for daycare and they also allow for half-day daycare too. Very flexible scheduling. When I pick my dog up, I can tell that she's received personalized attention from the staff and that she has been well cared for. Often she's been able to work one-on-one with a staff member for nearly all of her half-day session. We also attend the group classes which are incredibly unique and let my dog build up practice interacting with other dogs in a way that reinforce new, good behaviors. My neighbors are thrilled with the progress almost as much as I am - my dog no longer automatically barks at everyone outside now and is able to make new friends. The in home training we did originally was incredibly valuable to get us started on the right foot. We need to do that again very soon! Is it the least expensive daycare and/or training in the area? No. But it is ABSOLUTELY worth it. When I leave my dog in the care of The Canine's Voice I know that she's going to be safe, loved, and will learn a few things while she's there. Even though the cats spend their days in small cages, there is a revolving cast of volunteers who come into the store daily and make sure the cats get exercised. They also "foster out' cats so that they become socialized and used to living in a home.

We have adopted three cats from this facility. I was also one of the volunteers for a while before…read moregoing back to school, so I have had first-hand experience of how the operation is run. Although it is a small shelter, they're very meticulous and take really good care of the cats. Each feline is "vetted", receives their shots, and is spayed or neutered before being adopted, so all of the medical necessities are included in the adoption "fee" (which makes it quite the bargain). All cats are screened for parasites and other ailments such as FIV and FIP (which is something that many pet stores do not do... a very sad lesson that a friend of mine learned the hard way) and are monitored for a period of time before being made available for adoption. There is a small army of dedicated foster parents and volunteers that care for the cats, making sure they are healthy and their personalities are suitable for being adopted, before they are moved into the "cattery" for viewing and, hopefully, adoption. The cages and litter boxes are cleaned and disinfected several times a week, and the cats are offered lots of time out to play and interact. There is such a sense of security when looking to adopt an animal from C.A.R. because you never have to worry about illness beyond a little winter cold (yep, cats get colds, too!) This is also a no-kill shelter. And unlike some places, you will never find the "it's just a cat" attitude here. The adoption process might seem a bit off-putting for those who are used to pet stores who will sell any animal to literally anyone without question, but C.A.R.'s goal is to make sure that everyone involved... both your family and the cat... will be happy. After all, adopting an animal is a commitment, and fates willing, you will have your pet for many, many years! They're very good about making sure that the cat's personality (shy, dominant, skittish, friendly, etc.) is right for your family and your home (single- or multi-cat home, families with or without children, families with or without dogs, etc.) The comfort, health, and safety of the cat is paramount. As I mentioned, we've adopted three cats from C.A.R. All three have been amazing... 100% litter-trained, healthy as horses, and absolute angels, with completely different personalities! Our lives are so much more complete with our little furbabies, and we really can't thank C.A.R. enough for taking such good care of them while they waited to come home.

I was looking for another pet to adopt for my family and to find my 11 year old senior female greyhound another brother.WeI have always had two greyhounds together because usually when we loose one we adopt another. I contacted 4 greyhound racers and told them exactly what I was looking for, a male that would not be alpha, one that would be laid-back a bit, and one too fit in with an 11-year-old senior hound. I have had older dogs in the past and have actually adopted them at the age of 7, 8 and 9 years old and ones with cancer that no one else wanted I figure they all need to be loved and older hounds can steal our hearts as well as any other age. The group brings you dogs to your home. They expect you to adopt one of them because some of their foster volunteers live quite a distance away and have to travel to your home. They tell you this so from the beginning of the adoption process, you feel a bit obligated to take a dog on that day. They also told me the day they brought them that if somebody returned a dog, they would badmouth them to other groups and make it hard for them to adopt again. My experience with this group was they brought two dogs that I picked out and two dogs that I did not. The first who came into the home brought in by the president of the group. One dog was very, very young she had kept on a leash. I don't think the dog was trusted to be off me. The other one walked around the house and peed three times all over everything. Then the third dog came in he seemed like he was the one I was interested in just by looking at pictures, but anybody knows that when you are going through a greyhound group you never adopted by pictures alone you have to meet the dog and you have to also make sure the dog is going to work in your family. I knew this dog was younger, but by the way they described him between the adoption group and the foster family was that he was pretty laid-back but like to play, etc. We ended up adopting the third dog. He was pretty laid back for around two days by day three he was running through the house , pushing my 11-year-old around and was a horrible fit for our family. I contacted Sue Purdom told her I was having some issues she told me to crate the dog which I really didn't see how this was going to fix things. Maybe prolong them to any time outside the crate I have never created my greyhounds because I never have had to. I've always taught them to get along and respect each other. This was a completely different experience in any of the dogs I have ever adopted. I decided that he wasn't going to work out and it was time to return him. Mind you they had an older seven year-old that was looking for a home, but his name was never mentioned. They went on to tell me well you didn't pick him off the Internet. It's not always up to the adapter to pick a dog off the Internet. It is up to the group to find the correct dog for the family And suggest them. This dog was never mentioned. When I asked if the seven year-old would be a better fit, I was told we don't exchange greyhounds. They basically came took the dog back. Did not refund my $750 and also sent out an email to another group that I was looking into to adopt from. Needless to say I was able to call that group and tell them what had happened. Period. this was by far the worst group I have ever dealt with in my life of adopting greyhounds. It wasn't about getting the correct dog into the home. It was about getting a dog into a home and taking the money. I don't believe this group is all about the dogs. I believe it is all about the money and just getting a dog placed wherever possible. So I give this group no stars not even one. When I spoke to other groups about this and other people who have been adopting greyhounds for many years, they all said this is not the way you go about placing greyhounds. They would have never had a return if they would have got me the right dog. Someone is not doing their job correctly and that is all I really have to say. It is a sad reality in the greyhound adoption world.

They're not enthusiastic about their jobs and they seem a little sedated like they're out of it.
