They absolutely do not know how to groom or handle pets. Would not recommend at all! They blamed the terrible cut and the reason for not grinding my 5 lbs yorkie's nails to him not behaving (yet charged full price for it). We have been taking all of our dogs for years to this groomer & are very happy! I recently sent my husband without instructions, and he told the groomer to just make Poppy look nice... we were pleasantly surprised she decided to give Poppy a mohawk... And it totally fits her! We have three adopted rescue dogs, and one is part pug. Pugs cannot be in the cages for too long because they have an extra flap over their breathing airway. They always call us to pick up our pug mix, Gracie, and take great care of her! None of our dogs really have a lot of haircutting needs, outside of poppies little hair tufts on top of her head... but we use them for the teeth cleaning service, nails cutting, and squeezing anal glands. We have always been very happy and loyal throughout the years... They absolutely love our dogs and we always feel they're well cared for! Absolutely pissed! Always go with your first mind. So i decided to switch up groomers because where I normally go was booked. I was greeted when i first walked in the grooming section. Yes i will admits my mini golden doodle has some small matted areas on her neck and back of her head. Her body WAS NOT matted as i had used a detangle solution and brushed her fairly well prior to the appointment. Now the groomer said she would go a little lower if she wasn't able to but this cut was absolutely ridiculous. Christina cut her down so low and even shave the hair off her tail WTH. When i saw my dog i could barely say anything else. The hair on top of her head was cut lopsided. I paid the the luxury furminator package 125 for nothing i could have skinned her at home. On top of the cut every time she's been groomed she smells nice. i didn't even smell anything of a nice fragrance on her. I would not recommend this groomer to anyone. I she was too matted i would have rather them call me and let me know that was shaving her to almost skin including her tail. A friend of mine didn't know i was going to this location and when i sent her the picture of my dog she cancelled her appointment You can't even tell the breed after this shity shave off! This Petsmart is my local one that I go to when I'm in the area to buy for my little nephew/niece puppies. It's located in a strip mall so there's plenty of parking. I like that when you sign up for their free program you get free stuff or discounts through email. They have pretty good sales here and there which is nice to shop around. This place has a pet clinic that's open 7 days a week which is good to know. They keep it clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. You can find all types of pets to bring home and pet products. I'm a sucker on the doggie toys, cool buy 2 get one FREE! You can also have your pets groomed here too. They do a pretty good job for the price you're paying. I can't really say anything BAD about Petsmart. I just normally don't buy from chain stores unless I have to. My heart still lays with The Dog Patch in Naperville. Check them out! We usually end up here after lunch at Ruby Tuesday's. We like to look at the cats you can adopt and wish we had a bigger place to get another. It's like a happy and sad visit. Hope they all get homes cause they all deserve one. They have some cool things to look at and the staff is usually pretty helpful. I think it depends on the day though. Sometimes you get the ones that don't want to be at work and other times you get nice ones. We lucked out and got helpful ones the day we went. We ended up buying a cat climbing tower. This Petsmart is worth going out of your way for. Why? Of all the Petsmart stores I've been, it is the cleanest, most orderly and most importantly, has the most kind, competent, and conscientious staff I've ever encountered. Jason is one of the managers. This guy is a waste there. With his people skills and ability to solve problems, he should be at a high end job somewhere. I'm serious. He's a young guy, but I've never seen so much attention to detail. I've been coming there since I got my 10 week old Cavalier last year. Jason helped me get all the things needed to prepare for his arrival without breaking the bank. Sine then, he has helped me through dog food, dog toys, dog grooming, you name it. When you are with him he is fully present to you. He tells you about the sales and how to get the best deal. THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT MAKES ONE LOYAL TO A STORE!!! (Take note corporate!). The dog grooming department there is remarkable. They have a great way with animals and my puppy always comes out looking great. It is also a fantastic value compared to other places. This location is hands down the friendliest and most welcoming to their customers. I have never been greeted at the door by other stores. But let me tell you, Leslie will make you feel so at home. She greets everyone that walks in and out of the doors. She will take the extra step to make sure you get the most bang for the buck as well. Apparently I was not a rewards member. I wouldn't have known if she didn't point it out. None of the other locations I have been to have ever asked nor seemed to have cared. Leslie took the extra step to promote it and registered me for the rewards program. I saw that there was an area in the front of the store that supports pet adoptions. They also work with third party animal rescues and allow for them to complete adoptions at their store. I just adopted a hamster through Fur Angels today and we were able to do a meet and greet and complete the paperwork in the store. This location has won me over with their service. I showed him a picture of the premium dog food I needed for my dog and told him I couldn't find it and instead of looking he says well we're out of it and come back Friday. Well it's Monday and I'm out of dog food I told him and he said then go online and find it somewhere else or come back Friday. This Petsmart has the most welcoming, friendly, and helpful employees. It's so refreshing to come here because of these amazing employees. Everyone there is eager to assist you if you need help finding something or if you have any questions about anything, and they are not annoying about it. The lines are well taken care of, and there is never a long wait. The products and prices are reasonable and have some very good sales at times! There is one lady in particular ~ she is at the checkout in the evenings she has dark hair and glasses...this woman is super sweet to my 2 guys!!!!!!!!!!! The Banfield Staff in Downers Grove is AWESOME. The vets are knowledgeable, they treat my dogs well, and when I had an issue a couple of months ago ~ the vet talked to me on the phone for quite a while and was AMAZING. Note to Downers Grove Manager: Give your employee at the checkout with the dark hair and glasses a raise. She definitely deserves one. read more

Meh. Your experience here depends on who is working on the day you visit. I've encountered very friendly and helpful staff as well as staff who just can't be bothered or who seem uncomfortable around people. I find the selection of merchandise somewhat limited. They no longer carry PetZyme and I had to resort to mailorder to find appropriate stairs for our aging cat. Some days the store appears barely stocked. We shop at this Petsmart because it's close to home and they carry the cat food we prefer. One thing I do enjoy about this location is visiting the rescued kitties. read more

If you have a pet, or have ever shopped for a pet, you've probably been to a Petsmart. This one is very convenient for us, so when we adopted a dog (a mere week ago!) we spent time here both before and after picking him up to acquire some supplies. It's big, it's bright, it's clean and they have lots of ... well... pet stuff. I did realize that their selection is not *quite* as big as you might think -- since the store is about 1/3 cat, 1/3 dog and 1/3 "other", plus room for training, birdies, cats, the hospital and the groomer. But there's still a lot of toys, leashes, food, treats, etc to choose from. Link LOVES his Batman toy we got here. They have the natural, sensitive-tummy food recommended to us, which is nice, because I didn't really want to have to trek to some fancypants "pet boutique" when this is so close. Prices seem good, if not rock-bottom, and in theory their PetPerks will save us some dough. The employees have all been helpful and friendly and asked us about our dog, and one of these days I'll be happy to bring him in to say hello. read more

We took our new to us 6 1/2 lb. yorkie in to get her out of control hair trimmed up. We were very happy with the communication before and after the grooming. I used to shop at Petco then I moved. I had some bad experiences at Petsmart but I decided to check them out again. Since my dog is very sensitive I had to go on a search for some good food. I had long conversations with a few of the employees about what I could do. They were all very helpful and I ended up buying a product that my dog loves and he doesn't get sick anymore. Unfortunately the food I started buying is pricey compared to other dog foods but Petsmart sends me coupons all the time! Plus they have great sales on it as well. I accidentally brought in a Petco coupon one day and to my surprise the cashier said "This is a Petco coupon but I can still use it because we match competitors prices!!" Wwhhhhat? Awesome!!! I don't think she was very happy to use it but I was glad that she actually said something. Martha Stewart has a dog line exclusively for Petsmart too!! I like it because it's durable and not just pretty. My friend recently purchased a Swiss Mountain dog and her training experience at Petsmart has been excellent. I like this location.. we used to go to the schaumburg one and had our dog treated at banfield but Dr. Sanders at this location is by far the best veterinarian in the area!!! I took my puppy here for his first grooming. I did not get greeted by anyone in the grooming area and they were visibly annoyed by my puppy being excited about seeing new people. He came out wet and nervous after his appointment and ever since, he has been scared of me putting on his harness which I NEVER had a problem with before this. I have no clue what they did to my dog behind the scenes but obviously it wasn't good and I will never take him here again. read more

I went to the groomers as a last minute matter. Let me emphasize that the staff was young and courteous, the problem was that they were booked solid and there was no one there in charge to help them handle more business. The customer that came in left his papers for his pet in the car but had brought in the dog in the past so had they taken the extra step, they would have seen that & taken in the pet. They lost a customer to PetCo as a result (plus their competitor was cheaper priced). The customer gave them the chance first since they were 3 miles closer but opted to just go elsewhere. It wasn't the staff's fault but customers WILL walk if no one takes responsibility there. read more

Note: This update is for the training. See previous review for grooming and the store itself. We have two dogs that were in need of training. One jumps on people as a hello, pulls a lot when walking, and is pretty darn possessive of her toys. The other one is a brat and doesn't always listen. We decided to sign up for training through Wendy. It was really nice of the woman who passed me on to her to let me know about the $20 off promotion they had going. That helped seal the deal and we signed up for the 6 week class. Wendy LOVES dogs. Absolutely loves them. Any emotional or rescue story about a dog puts her in tears. It felt good to have my dogs in the hands of someone who cared so much and was passionate about what she does. The class is held in the back of the store and there is plenty of room in the training area for the dogs to do their thing. The intermediate class we took taught our dogs how to come when called, "place," walk properly past other dogs, heel, go to their bed or designated area when told, and how to lay down. Pretty basic obedience stuff. Now, honestly, our dogs weren't very good at this. They're both teenagers and fairly newly adopted, so it's going to take time for them to get it. Your success in the class is also based on you doing the homework. If you don't practice this stuff with your dog, then they won't get it. I did, however, see the results with some of the other dogs who were attending this class for a second time, or moving up from the beginner class. Some of those dogs were so well trained. I have hope for my pups. We ended the 6 week course with a graduation. Everyone gets a certificate and gets to wear a grad cap. Wendy told us our one dog probably needed another intermediate before moving up to advanced, but that she would make a great therapy dog which is totally true. Please keep in mind that this is an obedience class, not a behavioral one. We're going to take our dog somewhere else for her resource guarding issues and jumping, as those were not addressed in the class. But I think these classes are good for regular obedience, especially if you don't know how to get started on your own. read more

This store has the friendliest and most helpful staff! I just completed puppy training with Betsy. She supplied me with the tips and training tools I needed to transform my independent little guy, Pharaoh, into a responsive and obedient good boy. We're going to continue practicing what we learned in puppy class and then join Betsy again for intermediate training. She is really great with giving every dog in class the attention they deserve and fun to work with. Can't wait until next class! Pharaoh did not know ANY tricks when we started and can now sit, down, come, dance, crawl, give paw(in his own special way) roll over and stay. "Watch me" helped Pharaoh and I communicate, too! I have been a customer here for years. This PetSmart is clean and well-organized. Shelves are kept fully stocked. The staff is competent, friendly, and knowledgeable. Generally I do not need any help, but recently had some questions about a fish. I was truly impressed with the information I received, and with absolutely no pressure to buy or "upselling." When my children and I visited the birds, I was pleased to see one of the staff members talking with and handling a Sun Conure-- animals are not ignored here. On our most recent trip, I noticed that wherever my children and I went in the store, we were greeted with smiles and offers of assistance. It was truly a pleasant shopping experience! read more

Wasn't happy with the training. It wasn't about learning or even building skills. It was all about testing distraction. How long the dog will sit and watch your eyes, etc. We got nothing out of the class. There was also a lack of structure. Yes, people drop out but if you listen to the instructor, they drop out because it's too hard. Not the case. They drop out because it's disjointed, unfocused, with no real learning going on. Since class ended, I've spoken with these people who shared the same view. NOTE - if you want to get your dog into Agility, etc. at a 'real' training place, I've yet to find one that will accept dogs with classes taken at Petsmart. In my case, I have to do an obedience class at a respected place before moving on. I was told by TWO places that when they allowed Petsmart trained dogs into the program, it was a complete nightmare for them. So if you plan to move on with specific training, agility, or other activities, plan accordingly because if you go here, your dog might be refused right over the telephone. read more

Big thank you to the manager Laura! We had an issue with the cage we bought for our German Shepherd. The design of the cage was faulty. Our GSD was able to get out of the cage. Laura allowed us to bring back the cage and swap it out for a different model. We were very happy since dog cages aren't cheap. Our GSD had also tore up our bedroom the past couple times he got out. Now we shouldn't have to worry anymore. We will be shopping at this location more often. read more

This particular review is two-fold; one positive and one negative. I'm not an avid yelper, because I feel that this site can hurt a small business however being this review is for Petsmart, a large retailer, I think they are able to make changes without their overall business being effected. First, the positive: the grooming staff are great and they know my dog by name. They are quick, attentive and I appreciate their thorough work. The overall customer service is excellent as well. Now, the negative. Usually the customer service from the grooming department to the general retail area are smooth and consistent, however when paying in the customer line I felt like a time warp took me back to the customer service line at wal-mart. In the effort to preserve the amazing customer service that I'm always faced at this location, I must reveal my dissatisfaction with one particular retail associate. With a small dog in tow and placing items on the checkout desk, like cat litter, the girl stared into nothing, without a smile or hello or how are you today. I stood there and said hello. When she finally woke up she said do you have a phone number with this? I said yes are you ready? She said yes, so, I started reciting my phone number. Only to find she was not ready, and I had to repeat it. Still saying nothing to me, she placed my items in bags and left them there while I struggled to put my dog in my jacket, put my credit card away while she stand there holding the receipt in my face. Could you not place the bags in the cart? Could you not say can I help you? Could you not say thank you? She did not even say thank you! So I fecitiously asked her if she was awake and she says, not even joking, word for word... "I'm just really tired and hungry". Still no thank you, no have a good day. Just a terrible attitude and bored state of mind. I get that the holidays are among us and most are working more hours than usual and perhaps this young lady is just a seasonal worker, but this scenario is not typical of this store. I spend at least $300 a month at Petsmart, easily you can say that my visit gave this young lady a pay check. How about a little training in customer service for our young professionals because each visit is an opportunity to build customer loyalty. I could have bought the same products (minus the grooming) at Walmart for less, but I choose to buy them at Petsmart. I hate Walmart because their service is terrible. If this young lady wants to stay up all night and care less about quality service, then she should work at Walmart. This will not effect my future business at Petsmart and I remain a loyal customer. read more
