Spotted Paw has been our go to groomer for the last 3 years! We have 2 pure bred Ragdoll cats (Cosmo 5 years & Moose 1 year) - Cris, Mike, and their staff have ALWAYS treated our kitties like their own. We bring (now both kitties) in about every 4 - 6 weeks to keep up their coats nice and smooth and untangled. They always feel great, look great, and come home happy as can be! We also started purchasing all of our kitties dry and wet food from Spotted Paw (all locations, we like to try new stuff!)! Our Cosmo had some tummy issues, and since purchasing the Farmina brand for both kitties, and changing the wet food (and increasing it) they have both never been healthier, especially their skin and coats! Took my dog to their newest location (third location since I started using them) and they destroyed BOTH of my poor dogs ears, actual giant chunks of skin missing because they don't know how to use their tools!!! It's one thing to make a mistake on one ear but then to do the same thing on the other ear just blows my mind. They didn't even say anything about it even though there was dried blood all over her ears. All they cared about was my Zelle transaction going through and I gave them a good tip! If I could choose zero stars I would. I took my dog to Spotted Paw Grooming and Pet Foods in Warrenville, IL to get groomed and will NEVER return. They also moved locations from Wheaton to Warrenville but didn't tell me that upon booking my appointment. Instead, they told me the day before and it was a lot farther drive than I expected. Supposedly, they moved locations back in November and still haven't updated their site. My poor dog is traumatized from her visit and has not been eating well since. She is a Shih Tzu/Bishon mix so she was a little matted. Upon check-in they had a hair length chart to choose how you wanted your dog cut. In no way did I pick a length where I couldn't grab her hair at all. They said they'd call if they had to cut her shorter than discussed, so, they called and asked about her tail and ears. I said that was ok to cut those shorter. But nowhere in that conversation did they say they had to shave her entire body too! My poor dog was completely shaved! She doesn't look the same and friends that come over can't even recognize her. I called to discuss this with the manager before writing a review and he was so scripted and rude on the phone. Seems like he's done this before since he knew exactly what to respond with. I told him that how they groomed her was not what we discussed so he said he'd have to review camera footage of me coming in and choosing what length I wanted and our phone conversation and that it would take at the minimum 2 days to review and investigate it. He ended up finding it right away and called me back in about 5 mins. He never once apologized until I got to the point where I was going to report them and write a review on every site I can. This business is just inhumane and poorly run. Nobody should bring their dog to Spotted Paw shop to be groomed. They've done this to numerous people before me as reviews on Yelp are awful. I'm regretting not doing more research before I took her there. Please go somewhere else to get your dog groomed so you don't have the same experience I did and others before me. read more

They cut the tip of my dog's ear off. You may want to go to a more carful groomer. I dropped Archie off on the 28th of August for his normal trim. We got a call a few hours later that was ready. When I picked him up they informed me there was a 'small cut' because he had turned his head. I paid and left. When I got home I found the tip of his ear had been snipped off, something that had to hurt and would never grow back to normal. I called the store back and confirmed the person I spoke with had never actually seen the injury, myself and vet were never called, and they could not issue a refund. I had to email the owner, who never responded, to get a call back later offering a refund. Cutting off a pice of someone's dog is not okay! Not calling the owner immediately and offering to take them to the vet is not okay! read more

I have been going to Spotted Paw now in Warrenville, IL (previously Wheaton, IL) for 15 years. I wait extra long for this one groomer because she at least is able to cut her short and still have some style. Never had an issue until this last time. We brought her to the appointment, and they tell us our regular groomer retired. They stated this new groomer had years of experience and to trust her, so we did. When my husband brought her home, our dog was shaking her head constantly like there was something down her ear canal. Then she kept licking where she urinates. I looked and she was clipped so short she most likely was nicked. That night her head shaking and constant licking continued, and she was actually moaning because she was so uncomfortable. I called the groomer and told him that we were taking her into our vet. The vet had to clean out her ears (most likely from all the hair clippings and prescribe antibiotics for her urinary area. I sent the bill to the vet and first he said he couldn't issue a check but to come in and he'd give me cash to reimburse the vet costs. I couldn't get there the next day so I called and said when I could stop by. The RUDE manager said, I can't reimburse you for the vet costs. He went on to say, our dog was difficult to groom, and they didn't want to groom her anymore so don't stop by. What a piece of work.......and the fact they would lose a long-time customer over $123.00 vet bill. I WARN EVERYONE, DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE!!! They hurt the animals and don't stand own up to their mistakes. Hopefully this will save any future dog from being hurt!!!!! read more

I was really disappointed with this visit. I dropped my dog off at 11 for an appointment, and he was not ready until 5:10. I called twice inquiring what was keeping him there for 6 hours. He was dehydrated and had not been let outside. As soon as we got outside, he had violent diarrhea likely from the stress of the day. While his cut looks good, the timing along with raised prices made this our last visit. read more

Brought my dog into the shop and explained in detail what kind of trim I was looking for and even showed a photo of him the way we like it cut. When we picked up Bear he looked like a different breed. The head was cut super small, the overall body was trimmed unevenly, unevenly trim overall. The groomers asked my dad (who picked him up) to please let us know if there's anything we don't like about the cut or if we had any feedback. Naturally, we called back to voice our discontent with the haircut. Really kind lady listened to our concerns, but they have a very silly policy of having to bring in Bear back to the shop within a week to "fix" the cut. At this moment there is no hair really left to fix unless they want to leave him bald, but their policy doesn't allow for us to wait a month for the hair to grow back so it can actually be fixed by the main groomer. We've been increasingly disappointed with our experience at spotted paw. We noticed our dogs were not as well groomed after a bath and brush as they used to be. And we had a few instances where the sanitary trim was missed on one of our dogs which created a big mess and discomfort for her b/c she couldn't poop through the overgrown hair. It turns out they were being groomed by the manager, not the groomer... but we were charged as if the groomer was doing it. They were unapologetic and did not appreciate how unacceptable this was. We also had a terrifying experience where our dog was bit by the groomers dog who was not crated. Our dog required 16 stitches in her mouth. The owner did not call me to apologize and make it right... I had to call him and ask him to cover the vet bills. They didn't even offer free groomings or anything else as a way to make things right. We should have switched then to a new groomer but they assured me they had a new policy where no dogs would be uncrated unless they were being groomed. That didn't last b/c we recently saw one of the employee's dogs roaming around. They went from two spacious locations to one tiny and run down location that isn't even listed on google or google maps. The previous locations which are now closed are still listed on google. They seem to have trouble finding and keeping groomers. They only take cash and don't accept credit cards which is extremely inconvenient. They had been a reliable groomer for many years but we have seen a steady decline in their services over the last few years so we can no longer recommend them. read more

We used to use this groomer, but after their third move, they are just too far away. However, my daughter was still using them for her dog because she liked the way they groomed her dog - until the last visit. They took a huge chunk out of her dog's leg and used the far-too-common excuse of a scab was torn off in the process of grooming. We had PetsMart try this once with another dog of ours and its a lame excuse at best. There is no possible way that a dog you love and pet/rub daily has a scab that size and you don't notice it. On top of that, they told her that her dog (who is crazy hyper) might want to rest for the balance of the day and ironically, he slept the rest of the day. I tried Spotted Paw Shop for grooming today and we will definitely be going back! We've tried a handful of groomers over the last few years and finally found one at our doggy daycare that we really liked! Fast forward to the second groom and the groomer was no longer there so we have been on the hunt for a new one ever since. I work in Wheaton but live in Schaumburg so I decided to try and find somewhere out near Wheaton who we might like. I came across Spotted Paw on here and decided to give it a try after looking at their photos and reviews. I called a little before 8am and spoke with Brian. He said they could actually fit us in today at noon. I can NEVER get a same day or sometimes even same week appointment other places. We got there at noon, discussed with the groomer what we would like done, and they said they'd call us when Rosco was ready for pick up. I was a little nervous waiting for the call. Hoping Rosco was ok and behaved himself. Wondering if he was calm or a little freaked out about being somewhere new alone and having his hair cut. Turns out there was nothing to worry about. I got a call around 2:30 saying he was ready. We headed over to get him and LOVED how he looks. Hair is cut beautifully and evenly. Hair between his foot pads is great. Nails are trimmed, ears are even. You can see his face and he smells heavenly! He even got the cutest little summer bandanna to accent his new look. I had to get a lawyer for them to pay my vet bills! ATTENTION ALL DOG LOVERS! DO NOT bring your dog to spotted paw in Wheaton for daycare! When I picked Mar and Bent up from daycare yesterday next to the TJ MAX they said Mar got a "little" scratch on her paw from playing so they bandaged it up. I didn't think of anything bad because she hates anything on her feet. They said she was walking and playing fine until they put the bandage on. When they brought her out She couldn't even walk on her front left paw. I GOT home and Matt unraveled bandage and its was so bad! We rushed her to the vet and on the way realized she also had puncture wounds on her neck ear and Cheek because matts shirt was soaked in blood. Matt called again instantly to get an explanation of the new wounds we found and they played dumb and acted like they knew nothing about it. The vet said she needed staples in her paw but didn't feel comfortable because the bite was too deep and most likely will still have bacteria in it even tho they flushed it out. Poor baby can't even walk for a good 5 days. I've always felt super comfortable bringing them there hence the thousands I've dropped there the past three years. But today they really screwed up bad. Well I've been going here to the Warrenville location, for a few years now. And while it's not great grooming by any stretch it was conveniently located to my home and I grew to like some of the staff. That was until quite recently when I had a negative encounter with an employee who I witnessed tugging at a dogs facial hair. My dogs were also dragged across the floor as if they were mops. . Not a good sign. Common sense tells you to just pick the dog up as they are frightened. I don't think I'll be returning to this particular place. Plenty of other places who will accept my money, my gifts, my thank you cards and appreciation, and my homemade goodies. You've been warned folks!!! I would not dare risk getting my dogs groomed here and after today will never shop here again. I asked about grooming for my particular breed 9 months ago and could tell immediately the staff had zero knowledge of the breed and their coat needs and different types of grooms - show cut vs. field cut etc. I was told grooming English and Irish Setters was "just like Cocker Spaniels" which is so far from the truth, I asked about carding/hand stripping dog coats opposed to shaving and received blank looks from groomer and desk clerk. They said "only the owner does that type of grooming and it's way too expensive for most dog owners so we don't offer it" First off we are dog GUARDIANS not owners and I routinely spend $120 per dog to have my setters hand stripped every 6 weeks. I am looking for quality, not high volume, cheaply priced shave it all off grooming. So take from that what you will. I heard recently the store was sourcing their own Raw Goats/Cows Milk and duck eggs. So I stopped back in as I pass the Warrenville location after my bi-weekly work meetings on Diehl Road. The sales pressure is high at this location and the raw feeding knowledge level is a bit low in terms of the intricacies of raw feeding and sourcing. Yes we all watched Pet Fooled - does not mean you are now educated enough to guide people on raw feeding. I bought two large goat milks at $13.99 each per quart and was charged $2 each for deposit on the mason jars. One jar was okay - the other jar had a small hole in bottom so when I left it out to defrost I was greeted by a counter of spilled goats milk as it became liquid sitting at room temperature and leaked all over the place. I returned the jars and explained one was defective and we couldn't use the milk and was basically told I must have broken it and no refund. I asked then to just get my deposit back for the 2 jars and was told I couldn't - I had to buy something to get the $4 back. Very shoddy Spotted Paw, very shoddy customer service. Give people their deposit money back without strongarming them to buy more products. I paid $32 for one quart of usable goats milk and was forced to buy $15 in non-labeled cookies as they were the cheapest thing in the store to get my deposit back. This store needs education, don't even get me started on their private labeling. They are either making or sourcing large quantities of dog cookies and putting them in plastic deli containers at inflated prices. The containers have no ingredients listed on them so good luck if your dog has allergies and a small 1/4 pound deli container is $7.99. Ridiculously overpriced and no idea of what is in them or sourcing. Kudos for trying to educate the community on feeding raw but educate your staff first. Don't fall for such inflated prices either - duck eggs are sold all over the suburbs (Elburn, Woodstock, Yorkville, North Aurora) for $6 to $7 a dozen and Spotted Paw only sells them frozen at almost $3 a piece. Their private label raw also is not even remotely nutritionally complete in terms of the raw protein, organ, bone ratios. You would still have to supplement if you feed their raw chubs. Spotted Paw you have too much floor space, not enough products and are charging way too much for items you can get easily other places. read more

We have 2 rough Collies. I have waited to post this review until I calmed down. We talked with Spotted Paw twice about grooming collies. We were assured they had done collies and were knowledgeable. The morning we took them in, my husband went over, again, what we needed. No shaving! My sable has extremely thick, course hair and there were a few spots that I probably could have done a better job maintaining. Be that as it may, 7 hours and 160.00 later, they were done. When my husband brought them home I cried. He said he was speechless when he saw them. They were shorn, not shaved. The hair on them was an inch long. We recently moved to the area from park ridge and sad to say, my dogs nails seem to never make it to the top of our to - do list. I know, horrible pet mommy here :( We saw this little shop when we went into home goods and decided to bring our dog in for a mani-pedi. We only had to wait for a couple of minutes and a nice girl came out and gave her a nail trim. The girl was great. I did not catch her name unfortunately. None of our dogs paws bled, and our dog was calm the whole time. Why 1 star you may ask? Well as we were shopping around and waiting to pay I was watching the other dogs getting groomed. There was a little dog on the grooming table right in back of the cashier, and all of a sudden the girl that was grooming it started CHOKING the dog!! I mean to the point where the dog made this horrible noise and I thought it was dead! And she was yelling at it under her breath. I was horrified. I literally expected the guy from that show "what would you do" to come out. As if that wasn't bad enough, the dog was just standing there, and she did it AGAIN!! seriously?! We won't be back because of what we saw. I'm so glad we just got our dogs nails trimmed here and didn't leave her there! My groomer got into a car accident and didn't have anything available till next week. I know one of the groomers here as I used to worked with her. Val did an amazing job on my Lucy Goosey and she smells beautiful. I asked for Val to cut Lucy short, clean up the sanitary areas, shave her paws, and trim out the rest. My fur baby looks amazing, smells amazing. I would definitely come back. The store is small and simple. And they focus on grooming. They have the normal dog toys, leashes, treats, etc.. It saddens me greatly to write a negative review for the Spotted Paw but my Golden Retriever (named Seamus Murphy) said that this business has truly gone to the dogs! When asked to comment about how he was treated by the Spotted Paw, he said "IT WAS REALLY RUFF IN THERE! I'll admit upfront that I'm tying to use humor to deal with a bad experience that I had with the Spotted Paw. On a serious note, I want to assure every pet owner that you CAN DEFINITELY find a nicer groomer for your pet than a place where half the reviewers have given the business the lowest rating possible. I originally brought Seamus to doggy day care at the Spotted Paw. Like many of you, my pet is like a child to me. The person who formally worked at the front of the store (Brian) always greeted the dogs enthusiastically by name and the people who operated the doggy day care unit were always pleasant with each dog. It was a fun day for my pet. Since I was using the day care, I would also have the Spotted Paw do Seamus' grooming while he was at Day Care. Today when I brought Seamus for grooming, I was informed that they no longer offered day care for the dogs and that Seamus would be in a cage the entire time. The words "IN A CAGE THE ENTIRE TIME" just kept ringing in head. The store front person who brought the dogs back was cold, never addressed the dogs by name and was not friendly. The owner (Mike) walked by, I said hello and he walked away without responding with a smug condescending attitude. When I came back to pick up Seamus, another customer asked me outside what my experience had been with the Spotted Paw. She mentioned that she had to bring her dog back in because she was very unhappy with the job that they had done with her dogs grooming. I watched three staff members interact with the dogs being groomed and they were unpleasant, uncaring and unfriendly with the dogs being groomed. Seamus had always been reluctant to go home after his grooming visits but today, he PULLED me all the way out the front door. The experience obviously was not a pleasant one and I will no longer bring Seamus back to the Spotted Paw. I originally enclosed two pictures of Seamus but the Spotted Paw complained to Yelp and the two pictures were removed. Frankly, I didn't think the pictures of Seamus' grooming were that unflattering! I had never read the Yelp reviews for the Spotted Paw before taking Seamus to this business. If I had taken the time to read the reviews, I would never have subjected Seamus to the Spotted Paw because of the prevalence of bad reviews. BEWARE OF THE NUMBER OF STARS FOR THIS BUSINESS! I was amazed to see that 50% of the reviewers gave the Spotted Paw the lowest rating possible. What about the other 50% of the reviewers? MANY of the 5 star posts looked like they were done by friends of the owner or the owner themselves. NOTE THE NUMBER OF 5 STAR REVIEWS THAT COME FROM 1ST TIME REVIEWERS WITH NO PICTURE. Take away the 5 star reviews from "friendly sources" and you have a company that probably should have a two star rating. Seamus Murphy gave them a "HALF PAW RATING OUT OF 4 PAWS", OUCH! I've learned my lesson and I've already found another Doggy day care and Groomer for Seamus. The only way that a company consistently gets the lowest rating from it's reviewers is to consistently provide bad customer service. Unfortunately, the worst rating that Yelp allowed me to give was a "one star" rating. Our pets deserve to be treated kindly by those that we hire to care for them and the Spotted Paw is just not a friendly place to take our hairy four legged children and from the attitudes of the employees, it does not appear to be friendly place to to work. read more

My dog just left butchered by Spotted Paw! I brought in my Old English Sheepdog who was just there 6 weeks agoin for a grooming. Her hair length was 3-1/2" long and she is FAITHFULLY brushed every other day! She really didn't need to be groomed, but I thought it's been so hot, I would have it shortened. I EXPLICITLY told them NEVER EVER SHAVE my dog. I wanted her hand scissored about 2-1/2 inches. THAT is exactly what I told them! My son picked her up for me... $90 and they absolutely shaved her to 1"!..She doesn't even look like a sheepdog...they even shaved her legs, but left a stupid ball on the "docked" tail....I feel totally embarrassed to let her see anyone...she looks ridiculous! PLEASE BEWARE OF THEM...6 weeks ago they charged me $75! I think they ran out of time and decided to shave her...and there is nothing I can do but warn others and never return. I have taken my dogs to this location since they first opened. I started taking my little dog to the Warrenville location. The first few times were fine but something happened on our last visit. My puppy came back shaking and refusing to go out. She loves people but would not leave my lap all day. When I did get her out she was limping badly on her right leg. It took 8 days of rest for her to fully recover where she wanted to go on walks and was not limping. I sent an update everyday to the owner but he only responded the first time to let me know nothing happened. I believe the groomer mishandled my 10 lb dog and caused her a lot of pain. read more

I took him back after a grooming because I didn't like the way his ears were groomed I'm not picky, but I didn't like them. So the lady started trimming and I was waiting in the lobby while she worked. I'd never met this lady before but she continually kept yelling at my dog to "stop","don't paw at me". He's a little maltipoo, not too fierce. I get it, you have to do your work and protect yourself and the dog. I peeked in and he was shaking. And yes I love my dog but understand the need to be firm, but it was too much. I had to leave and go next door while she trimmed his ears. I really liked this place but after that I felt the need to go elsewhere. I have been coming to Spotted Paw since I moved to the area 4 years ago. Mike the owner loves dogs and owns several and his wife does grooming there. I am disappointed that they don't do daycare anymore because that was convenient but I have seen some reviews that it said were written by friends. I only know this place because I'm a customer and my dog Barfi likes going there. They do a nice job of grooming him and he is clean and smells nice. I just adopted two more small dogs and will take them there for grooming also. Let's see how Godzilla and Sugar like the place. I'm sure they'll do a nice job like they do with Barfi. read more

My dog attends doggy day care at Spotted Paw and he absolutely loves it! The staff there are pleasant and you can truly see that they have a passion for pets! This is our second doggy day care and I have never felt such as ease dropping him off for the day. He comes home exhausted from playing all day the hours of daycare are great too as sometimes I need to drop him off early and pick him up late (he can stay till 7pm). Another thing that really impressed me about Spotted Paw staff was the great advice they gave us on our picky eater and which natural food was not only best for him but best for our budget! My girlfriend and I have brought our dogs here plenty of times and are very pleased and happy with the outcome. Our dogs always smell nice and clean and we like the scarf they put in them, not many places do that. The owner is very nice and seems to love what he does. Very disappointed... The first time I went to Spotted Paw, I took both of my dogs, a three year old Beagle and a 6 month old German Shepherd puppy. I dropped them off for a noon appointment and did some shopping in the area. I came back 2 1/2 hours later to find that they had just been put in the bath. I'm not sure what the point of an appointment is if they are going to sit there for over two hours anyway. An hour later, I get the call that they're ready. I picked them up and they looked and smelled great. Second visit, I took only the puppy. The visit was much more timely this time, and she was done in an hour. Again, she looked good, but rather than letting her stay in the playroom, they locked her in the cage. This surprised me, as she does not have a single ounce of aggression in her. I asked why, but didn't really get an answer. Yesterday, we dropped the puppy off again. Much to my shock, when my puppy didn't want to go in the back room, they dragged her by the scruff of her neck!! She's a puppy ON A LEASH. There is absolutely no excuse for handling my dog this way. That is not how you treat someone elses dog, let alone a puppy! The last thing I want is for her to be leery of strangers from a bad experience. Needless to say, I will not be back. Took our dog there a few times. Will never go back after the last time, about 6 months ago. Our dog came out with so many raw patches where they had supposedly stripped out his coat. His face was not trimmed and he had a burst blood vessel in one eye. They did not care when I mentioned it, nor did they offer to pay the vet bill when we called them and told them about the eye medicine we received. They let you keep your dog there all day, but it is clear they just leave them and don't do anything with the dogs. You can't see anything behind the scenes except a small portion of the dog grooming section. There may be a few employees who genuinely know what they're doing and care immensely for the dogs, but I am not willing to risk it again with my fur baby. We took our business elsewhere. They also have not called to say our dog was ready any of the three times we went there. read more

Extremely Disappointed ... First, I have never written a negative review in my life. But, this "personal" experience I felt had to be documented. I hope you will read the entire post (i.e.) read more ... My dog was severely shaved at Spotted Paw and it took 3 calls to get Chris (the groomer) to respond. Not only was our dog completely cut up but, his personality has resorted to that of when we rescued him 3 years ago: afraid, stays in his bed, we have to carry him outside and won't play with our other dog. We brought our Bichon in on a Saturday. Upon returning from Spotted Paw he immediately started chewing on his back-end. I couldn't get him to stop (thought it was because his anal was expressed.) Took him out and realized he could not get up the two stairs of our deck. I pulled up his tail and it was raw beyond the outside layer of skin. His anal area was completely distended and he was raw for two inches under that. We spent the weekend watching him constantly chew on himself. He couldn't stop. The dog we brought in to Spotted Paw and the dog we brought home was completely different. He was in pain and obviously traumatized. But, here is where the customer service, concern and professionalism went "out the window." Monday morning I left a message with Brian, for Chris. Called back a second time that afternoon. He said she was off but, but stated he would give her the message. I was distraught at that point. I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. By Wednesday, I left my "third message" a very strong message to Lauren stating how this was one of the most unprofessional service dealings I have ever encountered. I wanted a returned phone call. Basically, I was not going away. My pet was too important to me. That's probably the only reason she returned the call. Chris did call me back with total "attitude." She said--I get in at 7:00 am. and didn't want to call that early. OK, 3 days later, what time do you leave? She had an excuse for everything, except responsibility. Her indifference really upset me. She coldly stated, "That happens to some dogs. Your dogs were fine here, the dog was matted." The dog was NOT matted in that area. Really? Fine? You could just feel her attitude on the phone. Like nothing happened, like it was my dogs fault for being in pain and traumatized. Did not hear, "I'm sorry" once ... which by the way, Spotted Paw goes along way when a trip to the groomer almost results in a trip to "Pet Therapy!" When I stated ... "I know you have alot of business and one customer doesn't mean much." No response. Great response, if you really don't care if you lose a customer. I knew this unprofessional exchange was going nowhere. If I said there is a possible next time ... Not a chance! Chris and Spotted Paw if you do learn anything about customer service, know this: When a customer is dealing with their "PETS" well-being, they tend to NOT keep their dissatisfaction to themselves. Basic customer service tells you one dissatisfied customer will tell 25 people about their negative experience. With the internet they can tell a whole lot more customers. Our pets are family to many of us and your attitude/treatment told me how much you care about "my family!" It's not brain surgery ... It pays, to CARE! read more
