I've passed by A Twisted Root Burger alot but never stopped. On the way back from Austin I stopped at one. First, I'm a vegetarian and their menu said veggie burger. I got the veggie burger with onion rings. The veggie burger was the worst I've ever had. The onion rings we're good why was hungry, but once I wasn't hungry I realized they were drench in oil. Ambiance: AWESOME. Very crowded on a Friday night but quite interesting feeling the college-town 'feel'. It's nice seeing the co-mingling of college students and families with young kids. Food: Serving size is GOOD. BUT... the burgers are way too SALTY for us. The cheesy fries were crispy but over half was burnt! And the cheese was overcooked it literally caked real hard on top of the fries. As we left the place, I noticed a lot of plates with half or barely eaten burgers on several tables. A friend and I came here for lunch after visiting the Zoo. I ordered the Jamin burger, and she ordered the Western. She also ordered fries and fried pickles. This has to be one of the worst burgers I've ever eaten. The burger was cold, not warm, cold. The bun was cold and very flavorless. I asked for it medium rare, but I think it was cold because it was pre-cooked, and they didn't heat it up. It was definitely well done and cold. It didn't taste like a hamburger at all. I hope i don't get sick. The fries were Ok and the fried pickles had an odd taste, neither of us ate them. read more

The food was good as it usually is.. but better than the food was the customer service. We came in when there was an unexpected surge of jr high and high school robotics competition kids! This place was PACKED with kids! But even with the unexpected amount of work and business the people that worked here were delightful! I was really excited to have the opportunity to go to another Twisted Root! We used to have one in Roanoke, but it closed during the pandemic and I hadn't been to another one since. This location is pretty perfect: it's right off the highway, ample parking, and overall, the environment is great. Inside, the bar is front and center and there are plenty of TVs, so its perfect for meeting friends to catch a game. As always, the food was spot on and as good as I remembered. This location actually seemed to have some other options as I'd never had their salads before. I tried the SOB (south of the border) salad with wagyu meat and was not disappointed. They even included some extra dressing for me, which I really appreciated. The staff were all excellent and friendly, even though we were in Baylor territory and wearing our TCU gear. Pretty delicious gluten-free vegetarian burger. Their root beer float was good. Their potato cracklins were not that good. No one in my party of 8 people liked them much. The description wasn't accurate. It said a combination of potato skins & fries but actually they were like potato chip strips. Also they tasted pretty burnt. One major issue is all of their high chairs were too short for almost all of the tables LOL. Why fill a restaurant with high top tables and low top high chairs? Also the floor was really sticky. The Manager Sidney, came up to me and was so personable she knew exactly what I ordered to the T , I asked her how long she's been with Twisted Root, and she told me 5ish years, with someone with the amount knowledge about this place you think she had been running this place! She is doing an amazing job! Staff was busy, seemed to enjoy there jobs, probably because this young lady provides such a great encouraging environment! I have been passing by this place for years now. Every time I see it I say I'm going to eat there some day. Usually by the time I notice it I am already past the exit and I say to myself next time. Well this time I passed it and said to myself... "I'm turning around and going back!" And that is exactly what I did! You can't miss the building... it is a three story building and is painted from top to bottom in an alien hamburger like space craft scene. For that reason alone I have wanted to come here! So I finally stopped and went in. The inside is awesome... beer kegs made into bar stools, 4 big projection TVs on the walls, graffiti art in the bathroom, a huge mural on the wall... inside it is a single story with a very high ceiling... 80s music playing on a stellar sound system and all kinds of just eclectic stuff! There is a huge center bar, an ordering station... yes you order... they give you a picture (I was DR Spock) and you choose your seat. They have a variety of things, but I was here for the burgers... they have various choices of meat... from black angus, to turkey, to a very upscale Wagyu, and all... I just wanted a basic black angus beef hamburger. Again there were all kinds of designer options but I went with the spicy goat. No that isn't goat meat... but it does have goat cheese on it with chipotle sauce and two strips of bacon. I ordered, took my seat at the big center bar, and ordered a brown beer. Shame on me I have forgotten the name of it... but it was GOOD! Any way it wasn't long and my spicy goat and fries came out... OHHHHH My Goddie it was WAY tooooo Hottie!!! What an awesome taste! Great meat... cooked perfectly, and the way the bacon goat cheese and chipotle sauce melded together just bumped it up several notches! Can I get an HELL YES!?! It was sooooo good the fries really were a waste... so much of an "after thought" that they could have been Picasso on a plate and they would have still paled next to the Michael Angelo of a burger that was given to me!! Pickle bar closed due to covid - sign says ask for assistance and they will serve it for you. Another line for pickles. but counter staff too busy taking counter orders to help in timely manner. Took about 20 min for order to be ready. Burger was raw on inside. Shoe string fries were tasty but specifically asked for no salt (due to sodium restricted diet) and they came out salted. There are projectors playing whatever it is that they'd like to play. I think there was a baseball game on at the time when I visited. We had sat at a central bar location, and drink checks were here and there. I had ordered the vegabond with a fried egg and mushrooms added, and the fried beans and carrots. In retrospect I wish I had tried one of the shakes but I was trying to watch my waistline. At a burger place of all places. Anyway, the burger had good flavor to it although after a bite or two it sorta fell apart for me. Literally. Didn't hold together too well I'd say. I wanted a bit more texture too. Something with a crunch factor. I probably could've added some of the fried green beans into it come to think of it. Lettuce could've even played that part. The fried green beans and carrots were tasty but I also wanted more of a crunch from those as well. The killer part tho? The pickles. Loved all the variety. I love this place. The inside looks like a warehouse with giant screens that play music videos. The service isn't top tier, but I overlook that because the quality of the food is excellent. We've been here a few times. The food is made fresh. The hamburgers are delicious, and so are the French fries and the onion rings. I don't know about the pickles because I don't like pickles, but one of my friends says they're great. The chicken tenders are delicious, too. Oh my this place is heavenly and heavy. Me and my friend stopped here as a mid point between Dallas and Austin and it hit the spot right on. Brought back college memories with all the MTV videos playing on the walls, beer and burgers. I can see why college kids would love this place. And there are lots of burger choices - from portabella burgers to Wagyu. They even have a pickle bar which was oddly wonderful and frightening at the same time. Great place. Cool and has its own industrial, laidback, vibe with 80's music videos and sports playing on HUGE projectors on the walls. Food was a 9/10 for my group of 7. The Jam Bison burger with goat cheese was amazing. Buns were only downside as they weren't fresh tasting. Cheese fries and friend pickles and onion rings were on point. My 4 teenage daughters all finished their hamburgers and that's saying something! They also loved the pickle bar!! read more
