As a vegetarian who chooses vegan options as much as possible, I normally skip airport food and just plan on bringing lots of food with me when flying -- not so easy when a layover is involved or if a flight is delayed. With an almost two hour layover in Dallas, I figured I might as well look to see if there was anything decent to eat in the terminal. Lots of cheesy, bready things but nothing caught my eye until I spied the Vegabond burger here. I asked if it was vegan and was told yes. It sounded interesting because it was housemade with quinoa and black beans. My husband and I decided to split it along with an order of fries. We ordered beers from the bar and received our order minutes later. The burger looked good, but when I tried to cut it in half, it crumbled into several pieces so we had to eat it with forks. The flavor was awesome -- crunchy from the quinoa, hearty from the black beans, creamy from the avocado, and a little spicy from the sriracha. The fries were hot, crispy, and delicious. This was one of the crumbliest veggie burgers I've ever eaten so I recommend grabbing a fork and more napkins than you think you'll need because it's messy to eat. I was a little skeptical about this place after reading the reviews but I was hungry and really wanted a burger so I took a chance. Glad I did!!! I ordered the Freshman 15 burger. This burger had smashed fries on top, melted cheddar, fried egg & bacon with lettuce and tomato. Then to top it off I added bbq sauce as well! The burger was perfectly cooked, well seasoned and moist. There wasn't too much grease either. The hand cut fries were very good as well. I typically don't eat fries but these were good. They reminded me of when my mother made homemade fries. I ate the fried with the ancho chili ketchup...(I think that is what that was)....it was the perfect combination. I saw the menu and I thought it was a bit pricey for just a burger but I thought it wasn't bad to at least try and see what it was about. The burger size was a little bigger than normal burgers, but otherwise that's about it. I ordered the freshman 15 and it wasn't bad. But after the fact, I should've ordered the Western. If you like spicy food, I would suggest to get that instead. I mean your burger is going to range from $9-11 might as well go for the top dollar burger. So what else you get with your burger? Well...that's about it. They do offer free pickles though that is marinated with a different types of flavors. There's some that are spicy, some that are more sweet than other, etc. Overall it's not bad. The size of the burger is pretty good and tasty. Missed my connection so I needed a drink and some grub. I totally came here because I thought their twisted milkshakes had alcohol! Much to surprised when I asked If the milkshakes were strong the bartender told me gay they were regular shakes. Lol The burgers looked pretty good so why not? Started with a Hennessy and Coke. Ordered the Spicy Goat with the bartender's suggestion. Food comes out super quick. I didn't really taste the spiciness of the chipotle sauce but the goat cheese was a smooth flavorful taste. The patty itself was decent but nothing special. Tasted like a pre-made burger that they didn't add any seasoning to. Luckily the toppings were an override to the blandness of the burger. The fries were pretty tasty so I appreciated that. Let's talk about these drinks. I wasn't thinking about airport prices so I ordered exactly what I wanted. First was Hen and Coke ($14). My second drink the bartender asked if I wanted a double and I answered with a "sure,why not". Well, that sure why not had a price tag of $21!!! Sheesh. Overall, good place. A wonderfully friendly staff and incredibly accommodating for my complicated food allergies!!! I am on the Autoimmune Paleo Diet, and this is the only restaurant in the entire DFW airport that I was able to find food. They made me a super fresh lettuce wrapped burger with pickles and onions and it was a lifesaver, because I am also pre diabetic. A quick burger was all I needed here in Terminal A. Facing some delayed flight dilemmas, my nose naturally followed the smell of grilled meat coming from nearby Gate A25. Ah... here is the Twisted Root! The main thing that you're going to find here are gourmet burgers. Their menu consists of around eight different burgers to choose from including your standard cheese burger to some with more lavish ingredients. I spotted my Portabella Mushroom Swiss Burger ($9) and added a side of thick cut fries ($4) to complete my meal. They didn't ask how well you wanted your meat so I presumed that it'd be a medium across the board. My burger ended up being fairly basic but did hit the right spot in terms of hunger pains. My fries however were definitely over-salted, making them difficult to eat. I ended up throwing away half of my fries stash because my mouth had gotten incredibly dry by that point. So overall it's a decent burger if you're looking for one in Terminal A. I'd probably look for something else to eat the next time I have a long delay or layover in Terminal A. read more

I ordered cheddar fries with jalapeno. The order of fries were small like a side order and there were literally 4 jalapenos placed on top. Like seriously here guys. The cashier put much more on top for me. I had already given her a tip for having helpful customer service. I was under impressed with the fries mainly because I could taste the salt. There is salt in cheese. These fries definitely did not need salt. The portion side was small however the amount of cheese melted on top was pleasurable. I don't know that I would eat there again. Atmosphere: Clean Came here because I had a 3 hr layover before my next flight. I was starving after a 4 hour flight and was in the search for some good food. Employees: The old man at the front was very rude in the way he spoke and was not friendly at all. And the old guy was just staring at us like it was wrong to grab a cup we should have been given. Food: The burgers were pretty pricy we got the western burger and it didn't even have any sauce just lettuce, tomato, meat, cheese, jalapeño. It was suppose to come with onion rings inside but instead they apparently gave us grilled onions we told them and they said they ran out of it. And then they forgot to add our bacon, We notified them and they just laughed, rolled their eyes and said they forgot as if wanting the correct order we ordered was such a big issue. And didnt even make the bacon fresh they grabbed what was sitting to the side. For the price your paying there for a burger should at least be made correctly. The 7-Eleven across the hall had better service than them. The meat was still juicy just a cold burger. I couldn't eat half of it just threw it away. Didn't want to complain for the money back, just know I would not recommend this spot to anybody. Overall: This is why I gave it one star, they ruined my whole wait at the airport and completely took my mood from in a great mood to completely low. A strong 3.5 meal! We were stuck in Terminal A when the hunger pangs hit and ended up here. While the menu is short, it's lovingly focused on what they do well - burgers - and even beckons to non-meat eaters in the crowd such as myself. The appropriately named Vegabond Burger was my choice for lunch, along with an order of straight cut fries. The generously-sized patty, formed from chickpeas, black bean, brown rice, and quinoa, was served on a hearty bun and topped with avocado mash and Sriracha sauce. Pluses? The burger tasted wonderful and the patty was especially impressive, with a seared crisp on the outside. On a slight downside, there wasn't enough binding and the patty completely fell apart before the first bite even made it to my mouth. Still, I suppose that's what spoons are for. The fries were fresh and had good crunch even in their lukewarm states at the end of our meal. Twisted Root loves its condiments and provides customers with a well-stocked pickle bar (four kinds! Who even knew there were that many?) as well as some free-flowing bottles of ketchup and housemade barbecue sauce. Customer service is just fine, though we had to wipe down the residual messes left behind on our table (and saw that several others had to do the same). So if you come, please be polite and clean up after yourself! I leave you with a fun fact - don't be surprised if your receipt bears the name of someone else. We had an hour before our plane started boarding so we decided to have lunch at the Twisted Root Burger Company. Their burger menu looked amazing so it was difficult to make a decision. We decided to order the kevin bacon, the verde, the freshman 15 and the classic. All of the burgers were tasty but two of the four were horribly over cooked and extremely dry. We had to send them back and were grateful for the redo. My favorite burger was the kevin bacon. It is made with three pieces of bacon and danish blue cheese. The verde came in second. The guacamole, green chilies and pepper jack cheese was an awesome flavor combination. The loaded fries were so loaded that as it cooled it turned into a loaf. I really, really wanted to like Twisted Root, but my burger was a disaster. The meat was BEYOND well done and came out super dry and tough. It was like eating cardboard. I threw out the burger after getting halfway through it and just ate the mushrooms and fries that came with the burger. The other significant issue was the lack of apparent organization or ability to deal with an ordering rush. For some reason they did not attend to my order until 20 minutes later - after 5-10 people behind me already got theirs. I didn't get anything special either - just the mushroom burger on their menu. I received repeated apologies from a young gentleman behind the counter, but apologies would have been a moot point if I was in a rush. I've heard in passing, people mentioning Twisted Root Burgers. I never did however, hear what they thought about it. So when I was preparing to fly out of Dallas Fort Worth I noticed that there was a Twisted Root in terminal A of the DFW airport. This is my experience; The staff welcomed me, and was very friendly. As with most airport restaurants, it was a little rushed, but that was to be expected. I placed my order, and after inserting my credit card to pay the lady at the counter stepped around to the credit card machine, and asked me to choose one of the tip amounts above my total. I was a little surprised at this, and how it seemed to be the norm. I would have normally given a tip anyway, but this slightly rub me the wrong way. I did not let on and went ahead and chose the tip amount I preferred. When I received my food I was pretty underwhelmed. It was simply a burger patty with cheese on to dry buns. I had not noticed that condiments were not listed on the menu board. I expected it to come out with something at least on the side. I asked where I could find some mayonnaise, and was pointed to some containers of the highly processed goo. After preparing the burger the way I normally would I was expecting an amazing burst of flavor from the meat and cheese however, it was about the same as any other burger you get somewhere but twice the price. The fries were advertised as hand, punched whatever that means. They were simply a rendition of steak fries, and I am not sure they were anything other than frozen prior to being fried. In the end, I got a burger and fries with no drink for $20 and some change. My rating of Twisted Root Burger Company. My experience was not at all what I expected. Let's start with the positive. Great location because it was conveniently located near my gate and the prize was reasonable. I arrived to my connection gate at 9 pm, I saw this restaurant and was attracted to eat here. When we arrived there were only 4 people waiting to order. The services looked rushed and disorganized, for some reason our order got lost and we waited about 18 minutes to be served and to top it off my order was missing the meat. By the time we got our orders corrected and served we had to rush and eat it (no time for picture). To be located in an airport that is not acceptable. Not a good experience at all. read more
