After a long car ride, from Houston, we stopped by Twisted Root to grab some burgers. I've never been to any of the other locations, but figured it was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, so there must be something to this place, right? The people said to check it out, so we figured, we might as well. Plus one of my friends said it was pretty good when he stopped by on a different road trip. Luckily it wasn't too crowded when we got there, since I was starving, and didn't want to wait too long. I looked through the menu and decided I would create my own burger. I decided on a pretzel bun, bacon, pickled red onions and garlic mushrooms. We also decided to try the fried ride for some fried goodness. The meal was a bit on the pricey side...2 create your own burgers and the fried ride came out to about 30 bucks...eeks!!! They call your order by the name they give you, I think ours was "Ginger Rogers" for the night. We got our order and it looked like a regular burger. The fried ride looked a bit like a bunch of fried foods slopped on top of each other that it was a bit difficult to distinguish what was what at first. I stopped by the pickle station and decided to try them all. I think the pickle station was probably my favorite part of the visit. I fell in love with the atomic pickle, although I was hoping for more of a kick. We started with the fried ride and it wasn't that great of a ride. The only thing that really stood out was the fried green beans. Everything else was a bit on the soggy side and the batter was falling off. They even forgot the sauces that came along with the dish. Now it was time for my burger. I thought the pretzel bun would have more substance but it became mushy with the burger and started to fall apart. They forgot the pickled red onions on my burger which was another downside to the service. Overall my burger was just blah. There wasn't anything amazing about it. The seasoning took over the meat flavor and well the service in regards to forgetting items that were ordered was just not up to par. The only thing enjoyable about the place was the pickles. Other than that, I doubt I'll be spending my money here again. read more

We went here for lunch and the atmosphere was grungy but welcoming. This was only my first time, but the burger I got tasted really YUMMY! We got the lots a shrooms burger with a side of fries. When you place an order they give you a funny nickname so that when they call your name it'll make for a few laughs. They had 4 different types of pickles to choose from, we only got the atomic pickles and the original. The atomic pickles tasted really spicy but not something I would eat with my burger because it would over power the taste of the burger. The burger was one of the best I've ever had, I can't even remember a better burger. I would definitely give this place a try if you've never been here before. Great atmosphere, although the air conditioning was kind of cold. Cheers!! read more

I ordered a buffalo burger with garlic mushrooms (togo). The staff was very friendly. I enjoyed reading their signs around the place as I was waiting for my burger. They were pretty busy, so the wait was kind of long as expected. The atmosphere is exactly like the other Twisted Root locations. I think this location is larger in square footage because there was a bus inside. Finally got my food. Came home to eat it, and the burger was a bit on the dry side and lacked flavor. I was a bit disappointed. Good thing I ordered garlic mushrooms with it because that's what really saved my burger. Parking was a bit difficult because there aren't many spots to begin with. I parked at the side of the building next to another car, but I'm not sure if that was even a spot. It was too dark to tell. I came out, my car was still there, and no ticket, so thank God. read more

I know it was probably a fluke: But my food & service was horrible. Took 45 min to get 2 burgers & the meat smelled horrible, bacon cold & overlooked, cheese cold... Just a bad meal. The music was the only good thing about the experience:: but I don't usually pay $30 to enjoy 60 minutes of classic rock. So I've spent my last dollar/minute at twisted root. read more

Had never tried a Twisted Root before but was really really impressed by the quality of food here and the selection. I am a vegetarian so it's hard to find a burger place that doesn't overcook or dry out there patties. The veggie patty here is a black bean base, which isn't my favorite but others might be into that. I don't like that you can't substitute toppings here on their specialty burgers, even if the toppings are the same price. Kind of goes against the whole "unique" feel that the restaurant is supposed to be all about. Still, I love that I can get pretty much anything on my burger here. I got the Western burger here (fried onion strings, guac, and pepper jack) and it was amazing. Pass on the fried green tomatoes, you only get 5 tiny slices for $3 which is a complete ripoff. Also skip on the sweet potato chips, they are soggy and they sprinkle them with cinnamon and sugar which I can't stand. The cheese fries aren't bad. read more

So before I get into my one beef let me tell you all the reasons I love this place. The sides are amazing! Fried Pickles, Fries, Fried green beans, chili, so GOOD All you can eat pickles - a variety too choose from - self serve! Fresh brewed tea! Amazing turkey burgers - the best I have ever eaten An amazing chili cheese dogs - it is heavenly Amazing burgers! My beef, the line is long and the service is SLOW! takes forever to get through the line during lunch. So my suggestion is go when it may not be so busy so you can really enjoy yourself. read more

Love the burgers here !!! Food is always good. LETS TALK ABOUT THE INFUSED PICKLE STATION!!!! omg heaven i think i eat more pickles than anything else when i come here!!! i got the sexy Hawaiian burger. it was good just didn't like the cold prosciutto on my burger tho. It was still good though. You can easily spend a $14 bucks for a burger, fries, drink. read more

I stopped after a Cowboys game and found this location to be a lot less stressful for an out-of-towner than the Deep Ellum location, and still a great burger! I really liked the Big German burger, the pretzel bun is quite terrific, now I have 2 Dirks I'm a big fan of. However my favorite thing about Twisted Root is the pickle bar, tried them all and went back for more! Loved the atmosphere, great for watching a game and hanging out with friends. read more

This place is one of the best places in Arlington for burgers! They have a good variety on their menu. They also have a new burger of the month every month. The place itself has a good outdoor concept and it works well during the summer. I love going here to just chill as well. They run beer taps as well. read more

Had my first ever Twisted Root experience this afternoon (Arlington location), after hearing rave reviews for years about the original in Dallas. I was quite disappointed, to be honest. The atmosphere was decent, fun even. Though, I'm not a fan of the 'theme park' style decor and service. What I mean is, it all seems overly 'chain' like or contrived rather than what I had expected: a bit more organic and divey. Nonetheless, I found myself enjoying it. When I try a burger place out for the first time, I go for basic. I figure if you can't make a burger good with just the patty, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and ketchup, then your burgers aren't all that good. The verdict? Meh. Details: The patty seemed too 'perfect' in its shape - almost plastic. It was dry (they cook medium-well unless you ask differently; yet, still it was very dry). I tend to think they over work their patties (or perhaps they press too hard during cooking) as it seemed too dense. I said that it was on par with Kincaids, in my opinion, and I do not care for Kincaids either. Their fries? I got the "straight cut" fries, which were also "meh." I had expected something that tasted fresh, but instead they seemed frozen (mealy in texture) and overly seasoned with seasoned salt and/or something else. The beer? Cold and tasty. I'll perhaps return with coworkers but I won't be seeking this out when a burger craving comes on. I'd rather drive all the way to Southlake for Johnny B's. Best damn one I've found in the area so far. read more

Service - 3 Star (Counter Service) Food - 3 Star Trailer Park Decor - 4 Stars This was a good and bad review. Things I like and didn't like that were more on the plus than the minus, hence the 3 Stars. Bad - Noisy, noisy, noisy. Lots of kids under foot and running loose. Recommended for family groups only, unless later in the evening, when kiddies are in bed. Good- I liked the trailer park decor, the bus bar and the porta pottie door bathrooms. The food was a little on the disappointing side. The burgers are cooked medium well unless you ask different. Bad - I asked for medium and it still looked well done. Still had juice, just no pink. Good -. However the seasoning was excellent and the flavor was awesome. Bad -But man was it a small burger. Like real small for 8 bucks. Bad -The fries were heavily seasoned so if you like to taste the potatoes, you were out of luck. Good - Nice and crispy, though. Shakes: Good - thick, lots of flavor Bad - Also small, whipped cream topping was a filler and didn't add to flavor. There was good, there was bad, but at least there was no ugly. read more

Perfect place for an amazing root beer float, sweet potato chips, and delicious burgers. Fun place. You walk in, order, they hand you a celebrity name, and you grab a table and wait. Our friends suggested we eat here. We went on a Sunday afternoon after church and were the first ones in line as it just opened for the day. I ordered "The Lost Mexican" burger. Bleu cheese and jalapenos. I was very impressed with the bun! Some places that serve up big burgers, the buns crumble to pieces leaving you with a patty and a mess! Not true here! Hamburger patty was oversized and juicy. The bun held up to the very end! I ordered the onion strings and they were quite impressive as well. Another thing I liked was the bottle of mustard at each table. I love my burgers with mustard and the fact that I could add as much as I needed was just great. I had no clue there was a pickle bar there! Will have to look for that next time. I was also blown away by the blueberry root beer! What a nice addition to my meal. Decor was about as Texas as it gets! Open-air on the west side. Tables or picnic tables. And you can even use the porta-potty! read more

I came here for dinner on a Tuesday night. Ordered the Lots-A-Shroom with fries and a Toasted Marshmallow S'Mores shake. The burger patty itself was juicy but with the mushrooms and cheese, it still lacked flavor. It was very one-dimensional. Maybe I should have ordered it with some bacon, lol. Also wish the buns were toasted a bit more. Fries were tasty! Crispy, not soggy, and had a sweet and salty seasoning on them. The shake, my gosh. Rich, decadent. Probably need to spend a week at the gym to make up for that one! I loveeee the toasted marshmallows on top. Very nostalgic. Overall, just an okay experience. Hmmm. Idk if this place is overrated or not. It is pretty expensive here. just for a plain burger it was like $6-7. And thats plain. I like the atmosphere. Pretty cool place. My regular cheeseburger was very.... Sub par. I've enjoyed gas station burgers such as Carl's Jr better. I thought they cooked the meat med-well. It was not. It was very well done to where the meat was very dry and no hint of pink whatsoever. I dont like dry overcooked meat. I liked that they were trying to be original with some of their sauces. But that doesn't mean I liked the Taste of it. So I had half a burger. The rest did not temp me. My bf tried to finish the other half. But he said it was quite unflavorful so couldn't finish it. He had the veggie burger which he said actually taste better than the meat burger. We still want to go back to try their custard ice cream shakes and other types of burgers such as beaver? Since that's so uncommon to see. read more

2 years ago I was served a raw burger, the manager gave me a gift card for a free burger, today I decided to use my gift card, but! The manager declined it, I showed him my post on Yelp from Oct.2015, of course I was ordering additional food, I can't believe a manager would not honor the gift card to keep a customer happy. I guess he doesn't care about bad reviews. I will never set foot in Twisted Root Burger! I was very embarrassed at how I was treated. read more

YUM. Beer and burgers were really great. Loved the build-your-own burgers and cider available. First time at the TR at this location.

Now here's a burger joint with good food and a fun atmosphere! The decor is unique and I thought all the car bumpers displayed along the wall were pretty cool and added to the fun. Instead of a number, they give you a little paper slip with the name of a celebrity that they'll use to call you. Make sure to pay attention though, because this place can get pretty loud and it's hard to hear the name they're calling sometimes. Their burgers are a pretty decent price considering their quality. The meat was juicy and my beef patty was seasoned well. I really enjoyed eating the onion strings, which were thin cut and crispy. The adult milkshakes were a hit at my table. I loved the variety of pickles set up along their condiment bar, too! What's really interesting about this place is their assortment of exotic meats. I'd make sure to ask around which meats are available when you visit though. When we walked in, we were told they had rabbit and camel burgers available, and we were all looking forward to trying some camel meat. But once we got the the register, we were told that they wouldn't serve us the camel meat because they wanted to get rid of all the rabbit meat first. That was a huge letdown, but we were still happy with the food that we were able to try. read more

Newer to the mid-Arlington scene is fast-casual burger join Twisted Root. I had a mushroom burger and a banana-pudding milkshake and it was all fantastic. The burgers are freshly-ground and I haven't had many that were as juicy as this. The decor is very interesting. Kind of like a cross between a trailer-park, a Nascar event and a swamp-side campground. It's very FUN! The location is fantastic. It's next to Freebirds, North of Capital Bar and attached to an Irish Pub. You could spend an evening in this area and meet all your libatious (not sure if that's a word) desires . Negatives - price. it's pricey. Probably because of the prices. It's counter-service and it's not fast. I'm not bothered by this as I'd rather wait and know that my food was cooked to order. Some folks are turned off however by having to wait. read more

I was super excited when I heard that Arlington was getting a Twisted Root - FINALLY someplace (that's not Babe's or Mellow Mushroom) near campus. I went with a friend a couple of times before writing this review. They allow smoking right outside the front door (or the garage doors if they're open). If they don't 'allow' it they certainly aren't enforcing their rules. I detest having to walk through a cloud of smoke to get to a restaurant. Their menu is simple: pick your meat, pick your toppings. I'm not super adventurous in the meat department so I just get a basic beef with American cheese. I've gotten their Triple side appetizer, and just the fried pickles. Neither were worth the money. The Sweet Potato chips were... well, weird. The fried pickles, while good in flavor, were over breaded to me. The burgers have been over-cooked and dry every time I've been there. I always get tea but their tea tastes a little strange. This is, unfortunately, no longer on my 'go to' list for lunch. read more

I probably wouldn't have stopped here if it wasn't for all the awesome reviews I've read. It's really not in my favorite part of Arlington. But anyways, I'm glad we did! Everybody was very nice and happy to help with any confusion. Both of our burgers were very good, and the fries were sooooo good. They have a peppercorn ranch that is amazing, I would buy that by the gallon if they sold it. We'll definitely be back, probably not to this exact location though. read more

I'm a sucker for a good burger and Twisted Root makes a pretty darn good one. The one I opted for on this particular evening was the freshman fifteen-which comes topped with cheddar cheese, fries, and a fried egg. Normally this egg is fried hard but I opted to get mine a little runny. Quite frankly, I think its the way to go. The richness of the runny yolk does a great job of coating the rest of the burger. Also featured that night was a maple bacon shake. That thing was pretty ridiculous. Great combination of sweet and savory with a generous amount of bacon (that still suprisingly remained crisp) folded through out; but man that thing is heavy. Be prepared to either share or go home hurting. read more

I've come here a few times and tried different things and have never been impressed. Their burgers never have much flavor and are always overcooked and dry. Also, apparently they put breadcrumbs in their meat, so it's a meatloaf on a bun. Not a burger. I also enjoyed their variety of toppings, but you better pile them on so you can have a decent burger! Also, I understand they offer gluten free buns, but I like my burger without a bun. However, when I try to order a gluten free burger without a bun, they never understand. So, I usually get sick here. Because of this, I'll never eat here again. However, I really did enjoy their spicy ketchup and variety of sauces. I wouldn't go here for an overpriced burger with little flavor. Definitely avoid Twisted Root if you are not gluten intolerant/celiac read more

A little communication (or friendliness) would have made this a totally different experience -- but the manager stepped up and saved it. What could be better? - Greet people when they walk in. There isn't anyone that busy in all of Texas that cannot say hello and that they'll be with you in a minute - especially when there's a total of 6 people in the restaurant. - Tell people that you upcharge for changes. Seriously. That's simple. - Make change right. This is a pet peeve. No, $5.96 cents does not round down to you giving me $5 - and saying that you'd typed in the wrong number (since I gave you exact change) doesn't exactly endear me to you. Math is a basic skill. :p - Don't serve onion rings that are cold to the touch, and so oily the coating will not adhere...and leaves puddles of oil on the serving tray. What was great? - The waygu beef patty was exception. Dude at the grill knew what he was doing! Well seasoned, cooked medium rare (oh and you have TO ASK - without being prompted - for anything other than medium) - house margarita - had several and they were well worth it - Manager saved the day - getting me a great cocktail and going to the kitchen to make sure they remade the onion rings appropriately. And dear little food runner/order taker? Keep your fingers OUTSIDE of the paper trays, smile at the customers, and - well - try to put the teenaged angst (said as a mom of several teens) down long enough to make customers feel welcomed. Just sayin'. read more

Let me start off with what I didn't like since that list is obviously shorter. I didn't like that I had to walk in, order food, get a paper with a random name on it and then pick up my food after. To me that is just annoying. It really doesn't make me feel like I'm going out for a fun night...but that all changed. We decided to sit at the bar and the bartender was amazing. I think his name was David but I'm not sure. He asked what we ordered and started making conversation and asked if we'd like something to drink. I decided to start with tequila shots and David asked which one I'd like, he suggested a top shelf tequila that he heard was good. We went for it. It was alright, not better than Patron but I'm still going to buy a bottle for my bar (bottle is in the shape of Texas). So we get our food and start eating. My food was pretty good, I ordered a Big Tex which was amazing but a bit too spicy for me. Chipolte sauce in Montreal is very different from Chipolte in Texas. I am also the type of person who normally asks for sauce on the side but I forgot so its really my fault the burger was too spicy for me. We got a side order of fried green beans and that was AMAZING!!! I never thought you could deep fry beans but then again, I am in the south! I was very impressed. We decided to stick around to drink a bit more and I mentioned to the bartender that I don't like beer and he told me try try something. He gave me a sample of some cider that tasted like apple and it didn't make me hurl like beer usually does! I was really impressed with their decor. Not that it was anything to write home about but it was just cool. I wonder where they got their tailgates from and we started talking to the bartender about that as well. One thing this place really has going for it is that their staff is super friendly. At one point it wasn't very busy and we were talking to two of the bartenders about random things. I love friendly people.:) Overall, next time I'm in town I'll be coming back! read more

You saw the name of the place, right? It's got it's own quirky vibe going on. But that's cool, cause I dig it. Great burgers which also include gamey options - so if you're feeling brave, get a turkey or bison burger (they're awesome!). Gluten free options if you're into that. Their toppings - well, you're bound to find something your taste buds will like, or experience something different! All I know is when I find a good burger place that has pineapple available, I'm coming back. I like their sweet potato fries as well. After you order, they give you a popular name (Marilyn Monroe, Cinderella, John Wayne) instead of a number. Pretty neat. The interior decor is quirky with truck tailgates and road signs on the walls, permanent marker messages scribbled on the wooden tables and chairs. When the weather is good they open the side doors which looks like they used to be garage doors back in the day. Dunno why I found that pretty cool, but I did. Another bonus is their unique spins on beverages - try some Watermelon Sweet or Unsweet Tea - my fav, or also some others like bubblegum lemonade or something like cherry root beer or something of the liking. They're really creative, so I gave them an extra star for that. The only thing that stopped me from giving 5 stars was that on one occassion, I also experienced a long wait at the bar after I'd ordered my food. I remember being disappointed because I was on a time limit that particular day and I had to sacrifice a cold beer with my food because I wasn't attended to. That's the only negative experience I've ever had. I'd would deff eat here before Grease Monkey any day. read more

I decided to stop by here because of the great reviews I read and I couldn't think of anywhere else so why not give it a try?So, we walked into this garage/ car theme restaurant, there was no one greeting us because we just walked to the counter to place order. I actually forgot what burgers my boyfriend and I ordered since it was a while ago. But anyways, we looked at the receipt after we sat down, we realized that they charged everything in the burger separately except the buns and patties. Oh, and the ranch they asked if we wanted, they were 75 cents EACH in the little cup, I wouldn't mind if they informed us first but they didn't so we were a bit bummed cause we would have said no. The total came out to be $30 with 2 burgers and 2 orders of fries! The food was not extremely good, they were just decent, the portion was not extra big either and I have tried some other places that are better and cheaper! read more

The music is too loud, so I won't be eating in again. I will consider takeout for the delicious chili cheeseburger with the sweet&spicy pickles. The mushroom swiss was just ok. The onion straws were too salty. (I had them in Roanoke, and they were much better.) I agree that the meat is dry, but that is because it is grassfed. Order the burger done medium, and that should help matters. We were there at 11:30 AM, and it appears that the restrooms had not been cleaned that day. read more

I was excited that they finally opened a Twisted Root in Arlington, even though it's been opened for a while. The vibe of the restaurant is great, it's super casual and they always have sports on the TVs. Even when they're crowded, it's not hard to find a seat since they have a nice sized patio. The burgers are always good, I order a buffalo burger every time and it never disappoints. I tried the "Mucho Caliente" burger this time and it was really good but not too spicy. The pickle bar is awesome, they have all kinds of pickles (including Atomic) if you want something that spicy. The Bread and Butter pickles are my favorite. They have a lot of options for sides, we always get sweet potato chips or fried jalapenos since we can never decide on just one. The portion size is pretty good for prices so I can't complain there. I've heard the shakes are really good but I have not tried one yet. Great place to go hangout and grab a burger if you're in the mood for one. read more

Headed out to Texas for parents weekend, drove around and found this gem. It's a very open restaurant with many tables and benches with enough room to come here with a big party. It is a walk up to the counter and order type of restaurant with a wait of about 15 minutes for 5 burgers with fries. While your waiting they have 5 barrels of homemade pickle slices to give you a small appetizer. They have Dill, atomic, Bread and butter, ranch, and sweet and spicy. They are pretty solid but a few were a little soggy. After the wait our delicious food came out, I got a chicken sandwich which can come with fries or fried pickles but I got just the sandwich. The sandwich had avocado, bacon and a juicy flavorful slab of chicken. It is the best chicken sandwich I have ever had and was very filling. The chicken was perfectly cooked and was very moist with a great amount of seasoned flavor.
