This isn't a bad gig. It's a neat place with a nice atmosphere and pretty good burgers. At this point I'm kinda done with the system where you get a celebrity name instead of a number, but it's not as irritating as other places that use this method. Good looking restaurant with big garage doors that open up into what could become a nice little spot in downtown Arlington. Port-a-Pot restrooms are amusing. The burgers are pretty good. A little on the expensive side, though. Nice original sauces at each table. I like the Ancho-Ketchup thing. When I've got the extra cash, I like to get a buffalo burger. The buffalo has been nice and juicy all but one time that I was here. Fries are decent and toppings look pretty fresh on their own table. Iced tea is a picture of Ice T and the ice machine has Ice Cube. Ha. My favorite part is the bar. An old Winnebago with taps drilled into the side. After a long car ride, from Houston, we stopped by Twisted Root to grab some burgers. I've never been to any of the other locations, but figured it was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, so there must be something to this place, right? The people said to check it out, so we figured, we might as well. Plus one of my friends said it was pretty good when he stopped by on a different road trip. Luckily it wasn't too crowded when we got there, since I was starving, and didn't want to wait too long. I looked through the menu and decided I would create my own burger. I decided on a pretzel bun, bacon, pickled red onions and garlic mushrooms. We also decided to try the fried ride for some fried goodness. The meal was a bit on the pricey side...2 create your own burgers and the fried ride came out to about 30 bucks...eeks!!! They call your order by the name they give you, I think ours was "Ginger Rogers" for the night. We got our order and it looked like a regular burger. The fried ride looked a bit like a bunch of fried foods slopped on top of each other that it was a bit difficult to distinguish what was what at first. I stopped by the pickle station and decided to try them all. I think the pickle station was probably my favorite part of the visit. I fell in love with the atomic pickle, although I was hoping for more of a kick. We started with the fried ride and it wasn't that great of a ride. The only thing that really stood out was the fried green beans. Everything else was a bit on the soggy side and the batter was falling off. They even forgot the sauces that came along with the dish. Now it was time for my burger. I thought the pretzel bun would have more substance but it became mushy with the burger and started to fall apart. They forgot the pickled red onions on my burger which was another downside to the service. Overall my burger was just blah. There wasn't anything amazing about it. The seasoning took over the meat flavor and well the service in regards to forgetting items that were ordered was just not up to par. The only thing enjoyable about the place was the pickles. I came here for dinner on a Tuesday night. Ordered the Lots-A-Shroom with fries and a Toasted Marshmallow S'Mores shake. The burger patty itself was juicy but with the mushrooms and cheese, it still lacked flavor. It was very one-dimensional. Maybe I should have ordered it with some bacon, lol. Also wish the buns were toasted a bit more. Fries were tasty! Crispy, not soggy, and had a sweet and salty seasoning on them. The shake, my gosh. Rich, decadent. We went here for lunch and the atmosphere was grungy but welcoming. This was only my first time, but the burger I got tasted really YUMMY! We got the lots a shrooms burger with a side of fries. When you place an order they give you a funny nickname so that when they call your name it'll make for a few laughs. They had 4 different types of pickles to choose from, we only got the atomic pickles and the original. The atomic pickles tasted really spicy but not something I would eat with my burger because it would over power the taste of the burger. The burger was one of the best I've ever had, I can't even remember a better burger. I would definitely give this place a try if you've never been here before. I ordered a buffalo burger with garlic mushrooms (togo). The staff was very friendly. I enjoyed reading their signs around the place as I was waiting for my burger. They were pretty busy, so the wait was kind of long as expected. The atmosphere is exactly like the other Twisted Root locations. I think this location is larger in square footage because there was a bus inside. Finally got my food. Came home to eat it, and the burger was a bit on the dry side and lacked flavor. I was a bit disappointed. Good thing I ordered garlic mushrooms with it because that's what really saved my burger. Parking was a bit difficult because there aren't many spots to begin with. I parked at the side of the building next to another car, but I'm not sure if that was even a spot. It was too dark to tell. Had never tried a Twisted Root before but was really really impressed by the quality of food here and the selection. I am a vegetarian so it's hard to find a burger place that doesn't overcook or dry out there patties. The veggie patty here is a black bean base, which isn't my favorite but others might be into that. I don't like that you can't substitute toppings here on their specialty burgers, even if the toppings are the same price. Kind of goes against the whole "unique" feel that the restaurant is supposed to be all about. Still, I love that I can get pretty much anything on my burger here. I got the Western burger here (fried onion strings, guac, and pepper jack) and it was amazing. Pass on the fried green tomatoes, you only get 5 tiny slices for $3 which is a complete ripoff. Now here's a burger joint with good food and a fun atmosphere! The decor is unique and I thought all the car bumpers displayed along the wall were pretty cool and added to the fun. Instead of a number, they give you a little paper slip with the name of a celebrity that they'll use to call you. Make sure to pay attention though, because this place can get pretty loud and it's hard to hear the name they're calling sometimes. Their burgers are a pretty decent price considering their quality. The meat was juicy and my beef patty was seasoned well. I really enjoyed eating the onion strings, which were thin cut and crispy. The adult milkshakes were a hit at my table. I loved the variety of pickles set up along their condiment bar, too! What's really interesting about this place is their assortment of exotic meats. I'd make sure to ask around which meats are available when you visit though. When we walked in, we were told they had rabbit and camel burgers available, and we were all looking forward to trying some camel meat. But once we got the the register, we were told that they wouldn't serve us the camel meat because they wanted to get rid of all the rabbit meat first. I really liked the Big German burger, the pretzel bun is quite terrific, now I have 2 Dirks I'm a big fan of. Had my first ever Twisted Root experience this afternoon (Arlington location), after hearing rave reviews for years about the original in Dallas. I was quite disappointed, to be honest. The atmosphere was decent, fun even. Though, I'm not a fan of the 'theme park' style decor and service. What I mean is, it all seems overly 'chain' like or contrived rather than what I had expected: a bit more organic and divey. Nonetheless, I found myself enjoying it. When I try a burger place out for the first time, I go for basic. I figure if you can't make a burger good with just the patty, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and ketchup, then your burgers aren't all that good. The verdict? Meh. Details: The patty seemed too 'perfect' in its shape - almost plastic. It was dry (they cook medium-well unless you ask differently; yet, still it was very dry). I tend to think they over work their patties (or perhaps they press too hard during cooking) as it seemed too dense. I said that it was on par with Kincaids, in my opinion, and I do not care for Kincaids either. Their fries? I got the "straight cut" fries, which were also "meh." I had expected something that tasted fresh, but instead they seemed frozen (mealy in texture) and overly seasoned with seasoned salt and/or something else. The beer? Cold and tasty. I'll perhaps return with coworkers but I won't be seeking this out when a burger craving comes on. I'd rather drive all the way to Southlake for Johnny B's. Good -. However the seasoning was excellent and the flavor was awesome. Bad -But man was it a small burger. Like real small for 8 bucks. Bad -The fries were heavily seasoned so if you like to taste the potatoes, you were out of luck. Good - Nice and crispy, though. Seriously....I have never had a problem coming to this location, sit at the bar and get service. I got a drink pretty quick and wanted to order food. Drake said to just let him know what I wanted when I decided. Never saw him again....some other dude saw me looking around....ask if I needed something....I said I've been waiting to order. He took my order and proceeded to make me pay/start a tab. I have NEVER sat at this bar and been asked that. I told him so and all he could say...."it's just a precaution"...wth does that mean? Our friends suggested we eat here. We went on a Sunday afternoon after church and were the first ones in line as it just opened for the day. I ordered "The Lost Mexican" burger. Bleu cheese and jalapenos. I was very impressed with the bun! Some places that serve up big burgers, the buns crumble to pieces leaving you with a patty and a mess! Not true here! Hamburger patty was oversized and juicy. The bun held up to the very end! I ordered the onion strings and they were quite impressive as well. Another thing I liked was the bottle of mustard at each table. I love my burgers with mustard and the fact that I could add as much as I needed was just great. Visited for first time on 12/14. Ordered a classic burger and per menu instructions asked for rare. It came well done with a red arrow in bun. All other burgers at our table were exactly the same. Waited 10 minutes or so to get a keg of models operating correctly. Headed out to Texas for parents weekend, drove around and found this gem. It's a very open restaurant with many tables and benches with enough room to come here with a big party. It is a walk up to the counter and order type of restaurant with a wait of about 15 minutes for 5 burgers with fries. While your waiting they have 5 barrels of homemade pickle slices to give you a small appetizer. They have Dill, atomic, Bread and butter, ranch, and sweet and spicy. They are pretty solid but a few were a little soggy. After the wait our delicious food came out, I got a chicken sandwich which can come with fries or fried pickles but I got just the sandwich. The sandwich had avocado, bacon and a juicy flavorful slab of chicken. It is the best chicken sandwich I have ever had and was very filling. The chicken was perfectly cooked and was very moist with a great amount of seasoned flavor. Recommend this to any crowd, big or small that is looking for a great burger or chicken sandwich. read more

My regular cheeseburger was very.... Sub par. I've enjoyed gas station burgers such as Carl's Jr better. I thought they cooked the meat med-well. It was not. It was very well done to where the meat was very dry and no hint of pink whatsoever. I dont like dry overcooked meat. I liked that they were trying to be original with some of their sauces. But that doesn't mean I liked the Taste of it. So I had half a burger. The rest did not temp me. My bf tried to finish the other half. But he said it was quite unflavorful so couldn't finish it. He had the veggie burger which he said actually taste better than the meat burger. We still want to go back to try their custard ice cream shakes and other types of burgers such as beaver? Newer to the mid-Arlington scene is fast-casual burger join Twisted Root. I had a mushroom burger and a banana-pudding milkshake and it was all fantastic. The burgers are freshly-ground and I haven't had many that were as juicy as this. The decor is very interesting. Kind of like a cross between a trailer-park, a Nascar event and a swamp-side campground. It's very FUN! The location is fantastic. It's next to Freebirds, North of Capital Bar and attached to an Irish Pub. You could spend an evening in this area and meet all your libatious (not sure if that's a word) desires . Negatives - price. it's pricey. Probably because of the prices. It's counter-service and it's not fast. I'm not bothered by this as I'd rather wait and know that my food was cooked to order. The best is the original in Deep Ellum - did you know it's the only location with curly fries? Their variety of homemade pickles - atomic, bread & butter, sweet & spicy, dill and ranch are off the chain! The homemade ketchup, mustard and BBQ sauce ain't too shabby either. And their shakes..... Oh my. My daughter had the burger of the month. If you like grilled cheese you best get there...a grilled cheese sandwich was used for each bun. Burger had a fried egg and bacon .. basically 3 sandwiches in 1. Mom had a small make your own burger... she's little and was pleased except for the dry wheat bun...maybe there isn't much of a turnover on wheat buns. Mine was also super dry! I think the turkey patty may have been pretty good but ... - next time I'll request a white bun on my turkey burger. We shared cheese fries. They were fine. I was super excited when I heard that Arlington was getting a Twisted Root - FINALLY someplace (that's not Babe's or Mellow Mushroom) near campus. I went with a friend a couple of times before writing this review. They allow smoking right outside the front door (or the garage doors if they're open). If they don't 'allow' it they certainly aren't enforcing their rules. I detest having to walk through a cloud of smoke to get to a restaurant. Their menu is simple: pick your meat, pick your toppings. I'm not super adventurous in the meat department so I just get a basic beef with American cheese. I've gotten their Triple side appetizer, and just the fried pickles. Neither were worth the money. The Sweet Potato chips were... well, weird. The fried pickles, while good in flavor, were over breaded to me. The burgers have been over-cooked and dry every time I've been there. I always get tea but their tea tastes a little strange. This is, unfortunately, no longer on my 'go to' list for lunch. read more

I'm a sucker for a good burger and Twisted Root makes a pretty darn good one. The one I opted for on this particular evening was the freshman fifteen-which comes topped with cheddar cheese, fries, and a fried egg. Normally this egg is fried hard but I opted to get mine a little runny. Quite frankly, I think its the way to go. The richness of the runny yolk does a great job of coating the rest of the burger. Also featured that night was a maple bacon shake. That thing was pretty ridiculous. Great combination of sweet and savory with a generous amount of bacon (that still suprisingly remained crisp) folded through out; but man that thing is heavy. I've come here a few times and tried different things and have never been impressed. Their burgers never have much flavor and are always overcooked and dry. Also, apparently they put breadcrumbs in their meat, so it's a meatloaf on a bun. Not a burger. I also enjoyed their variety of toppings, but you better pile them on so you can have a decent burger! Also, I understand they offer gluten free buns, but I like my burger without a bun. However, when I try to order a gluten free burger without a bun, they never understand. So, I usually get sick here. Because of this, I'll never eat here again. However, I really did enjoy their spicy ketchup and variety of sauces. It was alright, not better than Patron but I'm still going to buy a bottle for my bar (bottle is in the shape of Texas). So we get our food and start eating. My food was pretty good, I ordered a Big Tex which was amazing but a bit too spicy for me. Chipolte sauce in Montreal is very different from Chipolte in Texas. I am also the type of person who normally asks for sauce on the side but I forgot so its really my fault the burger was too spicy for me. We got a side order of fried green beans and that was AMAZING!!! I never thought you could deep fry beans but then again, I am in the south! I was very impressed. We decided to stick around to drink a bit more and I mentioned to the bartender that I don't like beer and he told me try try something. He gave me a sample of some cider that tasted like apple and it didn't make me hurl like beer usually does! I was really impressed with their decor. Not that it was anything to write home about but it was just cool. I wonder where they got their tailgates from and we started talking to the bartender about that as well. Another bonus is their unique spins on beverages - try some Watermelon Sweet or Unsweet Tea - my fav, or also some others like bubblegum lemonade or something like cherry root beer or something of the liking. They're really creative, so I gave them an extra star for that. The only thing that stopped me from giving 5 stars was that on one occassion, I also experienced a long wait at the bar after I'd ordered my food. But anyways, we looked at the receipt after we sat down, we realized that they charged everything in the burger separately except the buns and patties. Oh, and the ranch they asked if we wanted, they were 75 cents EACH in the little cup, I wouldn't mind if they informed us first but they didn't so we were a bit bummed cause we would have said no.
