One word... AMAZING. Barbecue is an art with components that…read moreshould create a complete experience. Let's begin with ambiance--there are outside tables charmingly arranged beneath stylish arbors--and the interior is equally warm and stylishly arranged.. concrete floors, wooden tables of various sizes, chandeliers, brick walls, mixed with rustic white washed wooden signs. The menu is extensive .. there are so many choices it was tough deciding.. The proprietary sauces fantastic... my favorite.. the Carolina sauce..but in addition to perfect barbecue staples, let's also mention the hush puppies and biscuits to die for.. and the fresh cut crinkle potatoes are sprinkled with out of this world seasoning. Service is very friendly and helpful.. Great cocktails added the right tone. I cannot wait to go back!

Delicious smoked wings, falling-off-the bone ribs and pork belly burnt ends are among my favorites. The pulled pork sandwich has a yummy tang with the slight kick. The seasoned crinkle cut fries stand no chance against me. Sides/appetizers are generously portioned and can easily be shared. Nicely curated beer menu to pair along with your hefty meal. One kiosk to order food, but it goes quickly and they text you when your order is ready. Lots of open seating available and in the cooler months, you can sit outside and enjoy the firepits. Very fun spot to do trivia on Wednesday nights!

Best pizza I've had in Maine…read more Great atmosphere, the food is amazing and the service was great. I opted to go here for my birthday this year. I had heard good things. I was immediately interested when I read the menu. The names of the pizzas are very cool, if you know who they are. The atmosphere is casual and eclectic. It kinda feels like a band could walk through the door at any moment and ask where they could set up. It is a little limited on seating and you should be willing to get cozy and share a table with others. We ordered a couple of the Drexel Spivey pizzas. Deep dish with pepperoni. Super ingredients and top quality. I do wish the pepperoni had been able to get more fire, but that's the style of pizza. I'll get a regular pepperoni the next trip. For the deep dish, it was cooked and then came out for application of what seemed to be an entire pound of mozzarella. After a few moments back under the heat, it was pulled and Romano Or Parmesan was added and returned to the heat. The cheese was boiling when it came out. Amazing. Their sauce is simple and clean. Not bitter or too acidic at all. Another home run. This is now a regular. It's easy to get to and has parking on the side of the building. It's in an amazing location, but could be a challenge to access during the tourist season. A solid choice for great pizza.

Wow! How luck are we to have authentic Texas bbq right here in Maine? We heard about Black Bloc…read moreBBQ from my SIL. We shared the combo meal with a little of everything, coleslaw , Mac & cheese, & corn bread. we did not have to wait long for the food, but as we did, a customer came in for a pick up order, knew the pit master by name, & told us we would love the food. She was right. The spicy bbq sauce was tangy & spicy with a little sweet. All the meat was juicy & flavorful. Mac & cheese was melted cheesy goodness. The cornbread had just the right warmth & texture. Not only was the food delicious, Jim was very gracious in helping me find & retrieve a lost item after the restaurant was closed. His kindness & cooking both fed the soul! Thank you, Jim! We'll be back! Jessica

We've eaten at barbecue restaurants all across America -- from tiny roadside pits to legendary…read moreregional institutions -- and nothing has ever come close to Mad Jack's in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. That place is still the undisputed champion in our book, and Black Bloc isn't a close second. But it is a genuinely pleasant stop in Maine's BBQ landscape. The owners at Black Bloc are incredibly kind, and the restaurant itself is adorable -- beautifully decorated, spotless, and clearly cared for. It's the kind of place where you immediately feel welcome. The Mean Greens are the star of the show. Truly fantastic. The cornbread is generously portioned and perfectly moist, exactly how cornbread should be. The baked beans are straightforward baked beans -- nothing fancy, but solid. The ribs, though, were the disappointment. They were fall‑off‑the‑bone tender, which we appreciated, but they had almost no flavor and absolutely no smokiness. We honestly found ourselves wondering if they were even smoked at all. Barbecue sauce was a requirement, not an option. Even with the rib letdown, the overall experience was warm and enjoyable, and we'd go back -- especially for those Mean Greens and that cornbread. Black Bloc is a friendly, tidy, welcoming spot.

The portions are pretty decent for the price and the service has always been excellent! They have plenty of seating and parking. They have a bar upstairs and a studio bar downstairs and I believe they still hold live entertainment from time to time. They have a variety of dishes on the menu and specials as well. So something for everyone. And they have 4 BBQ sauces on the table to choose from and I still love their Blueberry BBQ Sauce!! We just found out they do a hot chicken wing challenge!! You get 6 wings to eat in 3 minutes, no drink, dip or sides - once eaten, you have to wait 5 minutes, again with nothing else to cool your mouth down with...if you make it, you get your picture taken and put on the wall and a T-shirt and the wings are free. If you fail, you have to buy the wings. :) We both ordered off the special and tried the Brisket Sloppy....oooh, sooo good. I got mine with an order of Mac-n-Cheese and yum! We also tried their Burnt Ends, again YUM and I had to dunk mine in the Blueberry BBQ Sauce!! My husband had Chili and it was a large bowl and very good. Yes, the portions are decent size and we couldn't finish, but left small room and had cheesecake! Yum!!! So if you're in Freeport, Maine and want to try some BBQ or do the hot chicken wing challenge stop by!!
