This was by far one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a doctor. I went to him because I thought my friend really liked him (turns out she stopped seeing him years ago, and that he never caught a degenerative disorder that another doctor said she had for years). If you want to be treated like a 2-year-old, this is the doctor for you. He yelled at me for touching the eye exam machine saying over and over oh my god, oh my god(I barely moved it) and when I apologized (and nervously laughed), he scolded me saying it wasn't funny and to put my hands down and not touch anything. During the eye exam, I tried to explain that with option 1 I saw two of each letter, but option 2 was blurry--but he cut me off and said he didn't want to hear explanations, just to pick. So now I'm out the money and don't even feel confident getting my prescription filled because of how the exam went. Now I have to go elsewhere and pay even more money to get a good eye exam. They tried to have me come back for a follow up 2 weeks later, of which the dr never said anything to me about, I canceled that, never going back. Don't go here if you want a friendly, compassionate doctor--you won't get it here. read more

My experience at Wheatfield Eye Care center was exemplary.Dr.Brian Matuszak took the time with patience and expertise to explain that my eyes were pre-catataract and gave me two pair of glasses that I loved. I lost one pair almost immediately which was unfortunate but on a second visit, he replaced them for me and told me that now I needed surgery for my cataracts which I intend to do immediately. DO NOT come here if you have a stye/chalazion that needs attention. You will be charged $100 upon entry and turned away after paying for an eye exam that you didn't want or need. They will schedule a follow up and bait you with "possibly draining it next time" and then turn you away with after charging another $100 without a second thought. I'm putting this update at the top of my negative review because I have changed my opinion. Dr. Twist called me a day after I placed this review to clear up any concerns I may have had about being under his care. He was kind, not defensive and seemed genuine in wanting to know more about my experience and that I was doing well. As we discussed the various aspects of the review it was clear to me that each doctor approaches things in their own way based on many factors. I think that accounts for much of the disparities between doctors. The rest of it can be explained by the fact that my ears don't always work at 100% - directly proportionate to how much I'm paying attention, and confusion on all of our parts (mine, Dr Twist, and staff) about the questions being asked and answered. Hearing his side of things cleared up a handful of things I didn't realize needed clarification. I would definitely recommend this doctor. I went to Dr Twist in good faith and did everything he recommended. He told me I had glaucoma and wanted to do a laser treatment on my eyes that would have been $300 which I couldn't comfortably afford at the time so I opted for drops. He told me that I had cataracts and that anytime I wanted I could get laser surgery for them. I was thrilled bc I've had glasses all my life and would love to ditch them. Next time I went in he told me I should get the laser treatment for glaucoma and that it would be $50. No reason for the change in copay. Meanwhile my eyes are bright red all the time like I'd been smoking a blunt with Snoop Dog on the daily. He tells me that they don't do pre-authorizations for the drops I needed. The receptionist said they do. No one ever told me that the second drop was for an eye infection so I kept using it bc I had been told I was getting another drop for glaucoma. Every time I went in I was given a series of tests. The upshot is that I went to a different doctor who has been monitoring my eyes for almost 2 years. I do not have glaucoma. No nerve damage and my pressure is not near problematic. My cataracts are not bad enough to have surgery. The first drops he gave me for glaucoma have a side effect of causing extreme blood shot eyes. I was never told even though I asked him about it. The tests I was given every month should be done once a year according to my new doctor. My conclusion is that he is very money hungry and does as much surgery and tests that he can get away with. I don't think that he has his patients best interests at heart. I think he is much more focused on his wallet. read more

I've been going to Dr Twist for decades on the recommendation of a coworker. I have never had a negative experience with the doctor or his staff. He is attentive, explains the procedure and genuinely shows he cares. I've never felt uncomfortable or observed any bias or racist activity from the doctor or his staff. His staff has always been diverse since I've attended. I have and will continue to highly recommend Dr Twist for any eye care needs. read more

If I could give zero starts I would. The first thing he said/snapped at me was to uncross my legs. I'm sorry but you are looking at my eye so why do I have to uncross my legs for you? His staff is aware with how he is and how he makes people uncomfortable and know that's how he is. He charged a $100 fee for missing an appointment and no, they do not give you any type of appointment reminder whatsoever. The equipment is ancient. He also kept finding reasons for me to have to come back and see him when I had a bad torn cornea and after it was healed he said he needed to see me again because my eyes were dry but didn't bother asking any questions. My eyes were dry because I was crying a lot that day and I also have insomnia so I get little to no sleep for days in a row. Canceled my appointment he made me make the day after I made it. Would NEVER recommend not even to my worst enemy. Stay away! read more

The doctor was very arrogant and seemed pretty racist. My fathers lived in America for over two decades so he knows full english, he may have acted a little overbearing but the doctor went overboard, he spoke louder and kept repeating what he said acting like my dad didnt know english. He has also done this with my mother as well. Both my parents are people of color and it seems he thinks that we cant speak english just because of the color of our skin. I feel like he could be a little more respectful and not treat my grown parents as dumb little children. read more

My husband and I have been going to Dr James Twist for eye care for what seems like forever. He and his staff are top shelf. Margaret in the office has been with him for a very long time and is the best. If you are looking for a Dr to shoot the breeze with or tell your life story to ( unless he needs to know the history of your eye problems), he is not the Dr to see. When he is working, he is all business. It took me a little to get used to that but I adjusted because he knows what he's doing. Don't confuse his professionalism with being rude. He is NOT!! He will listen to you, answer your questions and address your concerns. He just did my first cataract and will be doing the other eye in January. I've been a patient of Dr Twist for decades. Recently I decided to have cataract surgery on both eyes. Dr Twist explained the procedure in detail. His staff is very professional and personable. I was ready!! After my first eye surgery, I could see better than I have in over 40 years! 2nd eye, no glasses!! Dr Twist called me at home after each surgery to see how I was. Worst eye exam of my entire life... and I've had regular eye exams since I was 6. He said my vision was WAY overcorrected and wrote my a prescription after examine my eyes for maybe 10 mins (I've never had an eye exam under 30 mins before) and the "contact lens specialist" refused to give me an exam or sell me contacts which is the reason I went in the first place my prescription had expired. Don't waste your time on this place.... he either wanted to go home or had no idea what he was doing and the practice was a a joke. read more

Dr. Twist was excellent from the get-go . I ended up at urgent care for an eye issue and they called around to get me to an eye specialist, and thankfully Dr Twist fit me in his schedule that day and every other day thereafter. He was very professional and listened to my concerns. His medication regimen worked well and he even referred me to a retina specialist to "cover his bases". Very thorough and explained everything. The receptionist was super nice every time. Dina who examined my eyes provided excellent service and Margaret at the desk is a true angel. Dave I think did an eye exam and explained things thoroughly as well. Overall, I was very satisfied with Dr. Twist and everyone I was referred to agreed with his care plan.
