I saved my 75th Yelp review for a truly world-class, out-of-the-way, go-there-for-the-adventure…read morekind of place. This is it. Sandra and Clay, Californians who have settled on the gorgeous Oregon coast, run a superb country B&B on the banks of the Chetco River, down a bumpy, forested road just outside of Brookings. They prepare delicious dinners (on request) and scrumptious breakfasts, have a wonderfully rustic but elegant room selection, and truly make you feel at home in a place that is so calm, scenic, and clean that you will find it occupying precious space in your storehouse of travel memories. You feel privileged to spend time there. If you like to hike or kayak, or if you just enjoy sitting in front of a crackling firepit, star-gazing at night, sleeping in to the sounds of silence, or hanging out in the front porch, you can go from a high-impact vacation to a go-slow and let-the-earth-pass-you-by experience in an instant. We bought a bottle of Oregon Pinot Noir for dinner, which consisted of Clay's grilled wild salmon and Sandra's excellent vegetables, sides, and desert. Had we not been on a cross-country road trip and due in Eureka, CA the next day, we would have lingered. Great for couples in love of all ages, parents and nature-loving kids, friends who like to road trip and see the Pacific Northwest, and B&B aficionados who like to experience something out of the ordinary.

The inn is clean and well appointed and the new owners, Marci and Dan, have made some wonderful upgrades to the property. To be blunt, the house was filthy with a large list of issues. We wanted out the first day but there was nothing available anywhere on that weekend. We therefore requested a full refund of the amounts paid, nearly $2000. As of this posting, the refund has not come through even though they said is would be coming. Here is a partial list of what we encountered. Oven did not work. Dishwasher did not work and smelled like a sewer. We were told to take the dishes two flights downstairs to wash them in a sink. Kitchen sink did not drain and smelled like sewer. Rodent poop on every counter in every room. Toilets were filthy with pubic hair and dirt. Spiders and cobwebs virtually everywhere. No internet as advertised. No TV as advertised. Hot tub was half full and smelled moldy. Damage to many areas in the house including walls and floors. The couch looked like dogs ripped it up. No garbage can or any way to dispose of garbage. We have many photos that document our findings. The elderly ladies who run the Wild Coast Vacations run a scam and should be shut down permanently.

The bungalows are all teacupped around a unique little beach access. It's phenomenal. Certainly, we're talking about rentals on the Oregon-California coast, and therefore what I'm really speaking of is the fact that these are not the nicest of places. However, this is just such a great location, and the staff are amazing. Super friendly, very accommodating, and very eager to help make sure you have the best vacation possible. I know we're coming back. One thing, do yourself a favor and rent one of the units that's directly on the water. You will not regret it.

It felt quiet and almost completely to ourselves during our stay. The large deck with a partial ocean view was amazing. It was very relaxing, and it was fully enclosed. The hot tub was a great bonus after a long day exploring the coast. Self check-in was easy, parking right in front of the cabin made unloading simple, and communication from the resort was great. It was also a quick drive to Brookings, OR for restaurants, but there are delivery options as well. The cabin itself was clean and comfortable overall. The only part uncleaned was under the couch, which we only noticed because our dogs kept trying to get food left underneath it. Not a huge deal, but worth mentioning. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back on our next visit! We'll definitely recommend this resort to others!

Cabin C16 Whaleshead Beach Resort…read more This July some of our family came to visit from North Dakota. We had plans to go to the coast. There were 6 of us total. We made reservations to stay at the Whaleshead Beach Resort. I am very familiar with Whaleshead and have stayed many times with our big family, and also just my husband and I for special occasions. We have enjoyed our stays there in the past. It's a beautiful place and area, located in Brookings Oregon. The cabins are decorated with beach themes and are adorable. However we quit going there, due to new ownership and the lack of upkeep. We noticed with the new owners they weren't keeping up on it like it had been before, and the prices went up substantially. The last time we stayed we noticed things were very neglected and the Jacuzzi was broken two of the times that we stayed. At that point we decided to take a break from the resort. When I heard our family made reservations for July 27-29, I didn't mention anything about our past experiences, because it had been several years since I was there last and I was hopeful it had improved. We checked in at around 4:00PM on that Monday and we unloaded our vehicles putting all of our things inside the cabin C16. After things were unloaded my daughter and granddaughter decided to go into the Jacuzzi. The Jacuzzi was working, but when they turned the jets on, the water in the Jacuzzi foamed up a lot! I scooped some of the foam off and then discovered that there was a very thick soap scum around the interior of the Jacuzzi, and a terrible sour odor that came from the Jacuzzi, so obviously it hadn't been cleaned in a while, especially with that odor, how gross! My daughter and granddaughter immediately jumped out of the unclean Jacuzzi and went inside the cabin to rinse off. My daughter came out of the bathroom and said, "we have no hot water"! We checked all of the other Faucets and indeed there was no hot water at all in the cabin. We contacted the front desk and told them about the water not being hot and the Jacuzzi scum and sour smell. They informed us they were sending someone out to check everything. Meanwhile we discovered that the grill was also not cleaned and maintained and we had planned on using the grill. We were also told that the cabin sleeps 6 people and that the couches were pull out beds, but in fact neither one of the couches were. In the dining room area of the cabin the window on the left side was moldy from the inside of the cabin. I guess by now you can imagine how we were feeling about being there. We had already unpacked everything from our vehicles and we were there for a good couple of hours, and still nobody came to check the hot water issue and all the other issues. We called again and asked if there was another cabin we could transfer to, but nothing was available for the amount of people we had. We told them no one had showed up to check on the hot water, and that we had discovered some other issues that we wanted to address. After not getting anything resolved we decided to let the front desk person know we would not be staying and we would like a refund, the gentleman that we spoke to told us there was no guarantee on the refund. So we packed everything back into the vehicles, and we began looking for another place to stay. I Just got an update today, that the Whaleshead resort said that we lied about the hot water not working and that the Jacuzzi was clean! We know thats not true and they are denying it. The circumstances are unfortunate and very disappointing. We will be disputing the charges. I do hope they make things right and that we will be reimbursed. It really doesn't make any sense, we didn't even stay there and that should speak loudly. What a total bummer! I will not be returning to the Whaleshead Beach Resort. This time I will share with you all, the past and the present experiences I have had staying there. Just beware if you decide to go, read the reviews they tell a lot.
