She was very nice to my kids as well. The grounds here are absolutely beautiful. The trees, the deer, the birds, the wild turkeys, and more. During the evening I felt like we were confined to our room upstairs as opposed to sitting outside on the patio to see the stars or even walking downstairs because of the dog, which he was sweet, but he barks. I wasn't aware of the indoor cat either. The cat was very friendly but my husband and I are both allergic to cats.

Sandra and Clay, Californians who have settled on the gorgeous Oregon coast, run a superb country B&B on the banks of the Chetco River, down a bumpy, forested road just outside of Brookings. They prepare delicious dinners (on request) and scrumptious breakfasts, have a wonderfully rustic but elegant room selection, and truly make you feel at home in a place that is so calm, scenic, and clean that you will find it occupying precious space in your storehouse of travel memories. You feel privileged to spend time there. If you like to hike or kayak, or if you just enjoy sitting in front of a crackling firepit, star-gazing at night, sleeping in to the sounds of silence, or hanging out in the front porch, you can go from a high-impact vacation to a go-slow and let-the-earth-pass-you-by experience in an instant. We bought a bottle of Oregon Pinot Noir for dinner, which consisted of Clay's grilled wild salmon and Sandra's excellent vegetables, sides, and desert. Had we not been on a cross-country road trip and due in Eureka, CA the next day, we would have lingered. The kitchen is fabulous for large meals for many families and the grounds are spacious and inviting. I highly recommend this campground perfect for those adventurers needing a place to rest their heads on a whim at the spur of the moment. That's how I discovered Grassy Flat Campground. I was driving along my cross country summer road trip and needed a place to crash for the evening. As usual and during so many times along my travels, I opened up the app on my phone called CAMPENDIUM! I also recommend to all those campers and tourists out there who appreciate sleeping among the great outdoors, definitely download Campendium. It's free to use and as long as you have cell phone reception...it'll always list the available campsites within any area in the United States. Campendium was my saving grace from my road trip!! Grassy Flat Campground was so convenient. When I arrived here over the summer, it was basically first come, first served. You don't need reservations. It was about 4pm in the afternoon when I found one of the last remaining campsites still unoccupied. Wow...I was grateful for this because along this area of Highway 199 and around the Redwood Forest section...I found accommodations to be few and far between. Lol, basically, I was grateful I wasn't crashing in my car for the night. And for me...I had just visited Crater Lake and was making my way south from Oregon. Grassy Flat was situated just outside the Hiouchi Visitor Center (about 14 miles away) great for starting my Redwood Parks itinerary. In terms of location, Grassy Flat Campground was ideal! Being just off the road of Highway 199 and not far away from the major town of Crescent City...it felt comforting knowing I was nearby a place to get gas, food and supplies continuing along my trip. Now to describe Grassy Flat Campground...it was scenic...right in the heart of the forest and woods! I felt like I was breathing in nothing but fresh air enjoying nature at it's finest! When pulling into my campsite...it had a fire-pit for barbecuing and a picnic table set beside random trees. I sincerely appreciated relaxing and taking in the authentic camping surroundings. It's simple $10 fee to camp for the night. You have to pay immediately upon choosing a campsite. You can pay by check if you don't have the exact amount of $10. Then just drop it into the safe/drop box. There wasn't a Camp Host on the grounds, but I guess they go by the honor system. They do offer portable toilets. Although the porter potties weren't the cleanest...they were certainly sufficient enough to make it through the night, lol. My one and only deterrent about this Grassy Flat Campground (and it's a small one) was that I didn't have cell phone reception...to sort of play on my phone and entertain myself. But it was still perfectly fine not using my phone as I easily sat back in my lounge chair and enjoyed being in the woods. Ya know, it's times like these when you go back to the basics, that I truly appreciated the simple things in life. So...not having cell phone reception was a blessing in disguise...a chance for me to reset my engine and put into perspective that I was about to witness some of the tallest trees in the world! Overall, I can't recommend Grassy Flat Campground enough. It's a perfect spot to rest for the night, especially for those getting ready to start their Redwood Forest journeys (assuming they're coming from the north and headed south, lol).

Every opening of a drawer or cabinet revealed another thoughtful gesture,from sunscreen and feminine products to books and travel guides. It was crispy clean, beachy cute as hell with suprising touches of class in the decor. The owners Doug and Jim were charming and lovely. I plan on returning as soon as I can to stay as long as I can. Thank you gentlemen for the generous welcome and for not scrimping on those touches out of fear that they might get stolen. My stay there revived not just my body and soul,but my faith in human nature too! I'll be back!

Yes, 2 are park models (trailers), but don't let the outside fool you…read more The inside of all 5 units are filled with designer touches, very comfortable, affordable and clean. Just the bed and bedding alone would have been enough to make me stay. But they also have kitchens and living area. A mini home away from home. Not just a bed in a hotel with an ugly bedspread. All but 1 unit has a river view. Our family reunion there last weekend was fantastic.
