Since Casablanca was…read morebought out by Hunter Fans years earlier we had limited support here in Southern California. After doing some research online, I discovered Fan Man Lighting in Apple Valley Minnesota. I called and spoke with a representative describing the symptoms of the fan stopping and when the Inteli-Switch was depressed the blades moved an inch then stopped abruptly. I was advised that the circuit board had apparently failed after over 25 years. Since the circuit boards are virtually nonexistent, Fan Man Lighting has begun manufacturing their own however, a replacement switch had to also be installed to operate the new circuit board. I placed an order at the recommendation of the representative and both parts were were shipped. I received the replacement circuit board and switch within five days. A QR code located in the instruction sheet, which was very clear linked to a video on how to install which took less than 45 minutes. Once installed, I still had the same issue. I called Fan Man Lighting for further assistance. The family business owner Jason offered to FaceTime me to watch what was happening with the fan. He immediately noticed that the fan flywheel was to low and had apparently dropped which impaired the fan blade rotation. Jason spent 35 minutes with me on FaceTime walking me through how to raise the flywheel and then tighten in against the shaft flat indent with a 3mm Allen Wrench. Successful operation was achieved! Jason stated I could certainly return the parts via UPS in the provided box for a full refund. My wife and I are so grateful for the assistance from Jason and his employees Jack, technical support and Alex, in sales. Though it took time to receive the parts, enabling further diagnosis and eliminate other issues, ultimately the Fan Man Lighting owner Jason took the time at no cost to us to be sure we were satisfied with a working gem of a Casablanca Ceiling Fan. We highly recommend this business for any ceiling fan repairs or replacements nationwide. It's great to know that they have the parts, knowledge, experience, and professionalism to service their customers.

So far, so good. Similar to Becka C's review - Eric came over with an apprentice, when a 70+ mph…read morewind and hail storm downed a power line and damaged my electricalz. However this did not inmediately cut power to the house so I was left very confused and stressed as to what one should or should not do when a live wire still supplying electricity is blowing/lying around the backyard - since 311 and Xcel were both, after long wait times, rather unhelpful upon hearing that I still had power - and apparently unconcerned that said power was being delivered by a downed wire. Sigh. Enter Ashley, who quickly replied after I sent a Hail Yelp message. Finch was not the only responding electrician who visited that day - so I am trying to detail in this review what they did well, and why I was able to proceed with Finch over the other companies. Ashley called and was very helpful in explaining my options with scheduling the consultation; having dropped too many hundoz to have a downed tree chopped, I was stressed about springing for the upfront cost of asking multiple electricians to come and evaluate the storm damage and competitively quote out repairs, but once Eric came (the last of the electricians) it was done. Finch's automated text update system also confirmed schedules, updated ETAs, and sent a brief bio and headshot of which crewmembers were assigned on-site. All of this communication was pleasantly novel to me and, I gotta say, despite it being mostly automated, it went a long way toward knowing what and whom to expect, in the wake of a storm while juggling many contractors' visits and feeling this-old-house-noob-gonna-get-exploited stress. Eric was very thorough, braving cobwebs in the cellar to make sure the electrical panel was not also damaged. In a very accessible manner, Eric was able to explain where my system could be modernized and brought to code, and he was patient with my (many) questions. Finch's estimate and explanation of needed repairs was detailed, and drawn up / sent the same day, which helped me get the ball rolling on a very opaque (to me) and mystifying insurance claims process. Hearing that I was about to tarp the house meter (which had a gaping hole where the mast had been ripped off) Eric helpfully applied some mystery goop patch instead. Finch helped me track my claim process (Id never navigated that previously...) and Eric accommodated the insurance adjuster's site visit into his schedule. Will update review as the work progresses but I mainly want to emphasize that in all (but not only) the ways in which prompt responsiveness, professionalism, and follow through in the wake of a storm mean that the early bird (Finch?) electrician often gets the work worm, I didnt feel pounced or preyed upon by this crew.

There was no up front quote prior to the service fee being charged, and while I expected I might pay a premium, it would up being over 50% more than another quote I got. I would consider the company itself to be opportunistic and somewhat manipulative. The service fee does not roll into the project itself as it would at a mechanic, but does make you feel committed to them. That fee includes a whole house eval, which was then used to try to sell me every kind of upgrade possible. Since I paid the fee, I used the opportunity to ask about some electrical codes for things I'm considering doing myself, and there was no hesitation to price it out for me in case I wanted the work done. When it came time to present the potential options, they were presented as financing options--definitely a sales tactic to get me to commit to spending on these extras projects, which would have been triple the cost of the one thing I called them for. My idea of a good contractor is one that presents options with honesty and warns me when something is a problem, and this was opportunistic. I'd look elsewhere.
