I've dealt with a number of contractors in my current and former homes, and honestly Steven is one of the nicest and most effective resources I've ever worked with. He's honest, thorough, and fair. My 1908 American four square style home came with some surprises, as old houses do, and probably the worst was the absolutely crazy wiring. Tracing my ancient circuitry would have frustrated others, but Steven kept his cool and managed to get to the bottom of my troubles. I had hired Atlantic Electric to replace my electrical panel and update my service. While some other bidders came close on price, talking with Steven put me at ease. It's nice to work with someone who genuinely has the homeowner's best interests at heart. I've been screwed over too many times by contractors who see it as just another job, put in half @ss efforts, and then don't return phone calls. But Steven is not like that, and he's definitely earned my loyalty. And while my original project has mushroomed into an expensive nightmare, I at least feel like I'm in good hands. I'm sitting here in shock (no pun intended) about how smooth of a process it was having Atlantic Electric rewire our entire 105-year-old knob-and-tube-ridden home. When I used the Yelp Request-A-Quote function to reach out to a few electricians, Steven and his wife were incredibly responsive, and his quote was the most reasonable. We got him in the house right away, and we are so grateful he committed to a multi-week job. I asked him, "Do you have a lot of experience working on old 100+ year old homes?" and he reassured me that he's from England and has "worked on 400 year old homes"! We gave him direction and provided light fixtures and specific switches (LED dimmers) that we wanted, and then he went to town. We figured a ton of issues would come up with the old plaster, the old wiring, the logistics of the old home... but nope, he seemed to work around everything seamlessly. He only had to make a couple holes in the plaster, and he referred someone who patched them up real quick n nice. Steven made some suggestions throughout the process too, like better places to move the switches and outlets (no extra charge), which we were grateful for. He also updated our entire breaker panel which somehow had water damage and was barely to code, phew! The entire time, he was very communicative between calls and texts. We've been doing some other work on the house and it seems we run into snags with every simple little update. But I'm so thrilled that the biggest job of rewiring the whole dang house was such a cinch. I can't recommend Steven and Atlantic Electric enough! read more

I hired Steven to install a subpanel in my garage so that I can turn it into a workshop, as I'm a hobbyist woodworker. The existing wiring to the garage just didn't provide enough power for the tools I will be using. Steven came out to discuss my project and to look over my existing setup, and it was immediately clear that he was really interested in helping me find the best solution for my project. I was honest with him that I had talked to a few other electricians prior to him and told him their suggestions. Without criticizing the other electricians, he was very candid about potential faults with some of their ideas. For example, one electrician had suggested installing a separate meter to my garage. This had a certain appeal to me when I first heard the idea, but Steven pointed out that such an approach would have to be approved by the utility company first and could take much longer than the timeline I had in mind would allow for. After discussing all the potential ways we could make my project happen, Steven and I landed on an approach that checked all of my boxes: it avoided needing to dig underneath my sidewalk, it avoided putting a big ugly meter on the yard side of my garage, and it didn't require the utility company to weigh in and slow down the project. Words cannot describe how pleased I am with Steven's work! He was prompt, professional and tidy, but most of all, he did a great job! I can't wait to fully build out my shop with his work as the critical first step. I would definitely hire Steven again for future electrical needs! read more

I know that Steven is from England, but along the way (in addition to his electrician training) he obviously attended "Minnesota Nice School". We needed to modernize by swapping out a 1960's fuse panel for a breaker panel, and add some additional circuits (garage heater and emergency generator facility). During the initial visit to estimate the work it was obvious that Steven "knows his stuff" and that he is an honest businessman. He suggested changes in my original thinking which saved me substantially in the cost of the project, and his estimate was prompt and described the proposal fully. But the "proof in the pudding" is in accomplishing the task. In the course of the work, he was professional, personable, and accommodated one or two changes without "jacking up the price". He clearly explained the work he was doing, and was happy to answer questions. Along the way he came across some 50-year-old-surprises and solved them "in stride". The project was finished on schedule, professionally, and at the agreed price. I recommend this craftsman. Update: City inspector came yesterday, a eagle eyed guy and he went over the work with a fine-toothed comb. Approved it and remarked "They did very nice work." read more
