We got on their schedule quickly. Jack and Nate were fantastic! The job wasn't as hard as it could have been and they didn't charge us the full service fee. We will find a cause on the card they gave us to donate the rest of what we would have paid. They explained everything, double checked my amateurish work, and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. Our request that they be masked the entire time was 100% fulfilled no problem! Will call Tim Kunkel Electric again for any service we need and will highly recommend them to anyone who asks for referrals! read more

We called Tim Kunkel for information about a new panel. We read on Yelp he was highly recommended. He picked up the phone right away and spoke to us at length. He provided honest information and was trustworthy. We recommend Tim Kunkel Electric. His customer service is excellent. read more

Feel compelled to rate Tim, because he came so highly recommended by a City of St. Paul inspector! The inspector saw my site, gave me some great answers, said he'd even contact the other electrician that needs to do a little bit more work to close an open electrical permit. Because I need so much electrical work done and because I live in a 100 year old house (that most modern contractors don't know how to remove and reinstall plaster walls), the inspector gave me Tim Kunkel's name and said 'we see his work all over town and really like his electrical work--it's done right, plus he comes from a 2 other generations of electricians that have done great work thru the decades.' Can't beat that for a referral for $20k+ in work needed. Looking forward to moving ahead on this old house insurance claim project, with Kunkel Electric. PS He picked up his phone on the 3 ring! He lists his cell phone and actually answers it even if he's working (I could hear the background construction noise). He couldn't talk, but listened to my inquiry, then said 'text your info to this number and I'll get back to you today'. Concise, professional and remarkable. read more

We scheduled the work to be done on moving in day. Before he could update the lighting he had to replace the truly undesirable circuit panel. He installed a fan I provided and 4 recessed lights. He did the work while the truck was getting packed and by the time we showed up to unpack he was cleaning up. He and his team were very respectful of my newly painted house. They did a great job!! read more

Cannot recommend them highly enough. Tim Kunkel truly goes above and beyond when it comes to customer service. After a big storm, we called to have someone come look at our electric. Tim offered some trouble shooting options and tips over the phone to help us take care of some things ourselves- something we really appreciate as new home owners. We still had some issues so someone was at our house within 24 hours. read more

I've hired Tim's service twice in the past year. Both times I got several quotes which were all about the same, but I'd heard anecdotally, and here on Yelp, that this was a reliable company. I can now echo that. One of the jobs was to install a new outlet for an electric range that was replacing a gas range (very predictable job). The other could have been complicated due to the age of my house; I needed a ceiling light replaced in a spot where there was no box and 100-plus year-old wiring. They sent two guys in to make sure it went right and got it done quickly with no issues. They were all extremely professional; they were respectful of my time and my property, left no mess behind, and communicated with me thoroughly. I will not hesitate to reach out to them next time I need any electrical work done in my St Paul house. read more

Tim was able to fit us in same day after we had an outlet that began smoking thus leaving us without power in a few areas of our home. He was efficient in fixing the issue, and was helpful and direct answering questions we had. We felt confident with the service we received, and are happy to be feeling safe in our home. read more

Tim quoted me a very very reasonable price for a full service upgrade from 100 to 200A. He did all of it in a day with 0 complaints and no questions. It works perfectly, and passed inspection straightaway. The inspector even said he does great work. read more

Tim Kunkel Electric was everything my family needed them to be and more. Not just professional, knowledgeable, and efficient; they were also patient and compassionate - qualities that electricians don't need to have but qualities that meant the world at a time when it mattered most. I was looking for an electrician in late February 2022 on behalf of my parents: my Dad had been in and out of the hospital for long stretches and my Mom was spending 12 hours a day at his bedside. They had delayed trying to fix a bunch of lighting issues in their home - flickering lights, fixtures that didn't work anymore - and with my Dad taking another downturn, my Mom was desperate to remedy something. I messaged Tim with our needs and alluded to needing some flexibility with time given I lived out of state and was back in Minnesota desperately trying to help my Mom who was never home. He replied that although they were booked til April, he had sympathy for our situation and would see what he could do. The next morning when I called, he had two of his team members (Jack and Rocco, I think? I wish I could remember their names - they were so great!) arrive within the hour and they methodically walked thru my parents house to assess needs - some of which were honestly just burned out light bulbs or tripped circuit breakers. They were so respectful though, never once questioning why I had called them for things so obvious. They were kind in questioning my Mom after I pulled her out of an emotional Palliative Care meeting because I couldn't answer what they needed. They even took the time to educate me about light bulbs and lighting and make recommendations that I could pass along to my parents - offering to write it out on my behalf. And at the end when they confirmed that they had addressed everything, they acknowledged that my family was going through a really tough time and that the things they did were simple enough that they weren't going to charge us. I quite literally burst into tears at the thoughtfulness. My Dad passed away 8 days ago and because Tim Kunkel Electric fixed the light in my parent's garage the week prior, we were able to bring him home through that entryway - the only way to bring him home - and he could be with us in his final 36 hours. Their flexibility in not waiting to help until April was THE thing that allowed for this silver lining of my Dad being home, surrounded by love. I could not recommend them more highly. As an aside, I want to personally thank Tim Kunkel: even though it was other team members who came to our home, this professionalism and compassion starts and ends at the top. Please keep rewarding and expecting the best from your team. It truly means the world. read more

Cannot recommend them highly enough! Had a small electrical problem and Tim was professional, able to explain things so that I could understand them and priced right. His company did the work quickly and efficiently. Later that day we experienced a problem we assumed was from the work they did. Tim answered the phone after hours, offered to fix it that night (which we refused) and he and his crew were here first thing in the morning to address the problem. Our "new" issue was indeed that -- new -- and uncovered but not caused by the work done the day before. Tim and his crew fixed the problem and refused payment, instead directing me to some charities so I could "pay it forward". Will call them and only them from now on for any electrical issue. You should too! read more

Tim and his crew are amazing. They're responsive, professional and fast. They did great work for us and we'll definitely be hiring them again! read more

I needed an external outlet on my +100-year-old house and they came in under budget in took only a fraction of the time originally estimated. The guys were extremely courteous and very professional. Tim and his crew are the best. We had a couple of gfi and circuit issues in our kitchen and garage and Tim isolated the problems very quickly. I wish we had known about him sooner. He was prompt, courteous, and professional. We highly recommend Tim Kunkel Electric. read more

Tim and his team are beyond professional. These guys are punctual, organized, knowledgeable and considerate. My wife and I were working out of the house all while their crew worked on our kitchen electrical, a few random electrical needs to our second floor, and upgrading our panel. Throughout that time they would ask what our schedules were with video calls/meetings and always ask when they needed to do something loud and disruptive. They always came the day and exact time they specified for the work and when they needed to push times they communicated it effectively. Our kitchen electrical/lighting is a dream and the upgrade from our old 20 breaker panel to the 42 panel we have now is game changing. We'll be hiring these guys again for any future electrical work. read more

Jason came out on Memorial Day and fixed our AC which has been inoperable for over a year. A miracle in 15 min - it was a blown fuse. One that a number of other technicians never found. Kunkel elec rocks!!!!! read more

I screwed up a repair I was attempting on an outdoor GFCI outlet. Rain was coming. It was a Saturday afternoon. Oh, oh. I went to Yelp and found Tim Kunkel Electric. In 10 minutes, Tim was at my house and in 15 minutes the repair was completed. Wow... I'm a COMPLETELY satisfied customer. read more

We've had Tim and his team out to our house for a variety of electrical services over the past couple of years, ranging from simple outlet installations to complex lighting configurations, and they have been wonderful each time. I tried contacting this company for a bid through phone, email, text - I did not even get the courtesy of an answer.

Tim will be my first call for any electric work in the future. He responded very quickly when I reached out, was flexible with his schedule, and came to give me a bid on a Saturday. One of my favorite parts was that he understood the what we were looking for. This was an unfinished basement and we were looking for basic fixtures and to make the space safe. He didn't try to up-sell us on anything and in fact told us the most cost effective way to meet our needs. The amount he quoted us was the price we paid. Him and his crew showed up early and got the job just very quickly. Fantastic experience all around. read more

Tim and his apprentice arrived and quickly solved my problem. It turned out to be a just reseting an outlet on a different floor. Tim was nice enough to give me a break on the service call he had quoted earlier. I don't know how many other guys would have done that. If I ever need an electrician again, I would definitely call Tim. read more

Tim Kunkel Electric - Electricians Near Me - Saint Paul, Minnesota

My experience was nearly the same as in the 5/24/2016 review by Jake D. I contacted Tim on 9/15.2020 by phone, briefly described the work needed, said I had some pics from a St. Paul condo inspection, Tim asked me to send the pics to him via Email, I did so on the same day, and sent one add'l Email the next day to ask about his schedule. Never received any response from him, neither phone nor Email. Am not aware of anything I did wrong on my end, so am forced to conclude Tim Kunkel doesn't know anything about professional courtesy or simply doesn't care. read more

Family means everything to me...... I would recommend Tim to any of them! He and his associate were prompt, polite, and kind. The problem with my ground fault was resolved quickly and professionally. Left unresolved, the error in wiring present before I moved into my home could have caused much more serious problems in the future. Thank you Tim for locating and repairing the faulty circuit! read more

Excellent communication. Fast, high quality service! I needed an electrician to complete some buyer requests on a house that I'm selling. Tim was quick to reply to my messages with a fair estimate. After a few messages we had an appointment scheduled. The electrician that did the work was thorough, knowledgeable, professional and friendly. After the work was done he cleaned up after himself and presented the bill. It was right in the range of the estimate that Tim provided. I'll be using these guys again! read more

I needed a new electrical box ASAP because I was having a mini split put in and my box was on its way out and Tim Kunkle was there the next day. He really saved me from a headache. Quality work. I'd recommend him to anyone. read more

Tim was willing to give me an estimated price over the telephone based on pictures and based on my own description. Thank you!!!! Many (most) of the other electricians and companies weren't willing to give even ballpark figures, or a range from high to low; and they wanted to charge a service fee to come out and take a look. I really appreciate that Tim has respect for the homeowner (me), and was willing to give an estimate on the phone. Tim installed two fan boxes, two fans that I already had, and installed two switches to operate them. He was the most reasonably priced, got back to me quickly, and he came out the same day! This guy deserves a 10! read more

My wife and I are replacing some ceiling lights. When we pulled one down, there was some wiring that looked pretty dicey from the previous owners. I called to explain what was going on, and instead of sending somebody out for a fee just to look at it, they just walked me through how to fix it myself over the phone at no cost. These guys are #1!!! read more

Tim and his team did a complete overhaul of the electrical system in a small condo that my wife and I are moving into. From start to finish Tim treated me kindly and respectfully. When I described my project and made some comments that clearly showed my lack of electrical knowledge, Tim (to his strong credit!) didn't talk down to me or try to flaunt his own knowledge. His tone was kind when spoke with me. He took time to chat with me a bit and expand my understanding which helped me feel more comfortable! I was aware that this would be an expensive and several day project (I needed a new panel/circuit box, a dryer hookup, LED lighting and switches, as well as several outlets, changes in the walls). Tim put together a bid that broke out costs individually and as a whole project in case my budget prevented me from doing it all at once. He was good at explaining which parts of the project were dependant on other parts, and which could be stand alone items. We had a couple bumps in our email communication, but Tim was available to me during the day via text (and phone) promptly and consistently as the job developed. It was completed as agreed and at the cost he quoted. Excellent, professional work from someone who strikes me as a good person. I highly recommend Tim and his team. read more

While Tim may be listed as a "Fast Responder", this is only to the initial inquiry to drive his Yelp score. Tim is such a great guy and does incredible work. We have worked with a lot of electricians here downtown and while nice, they are crazy expensive, never have the parts they need and take 2 or 3 days to do simple tasks. Tim is the exact opposite of that. He always has what he needs, gets the job done quickly and his pricing is very fair. Don't hesitate to give him a call for your next electrical job, you won't be disappointed. read more

What a great guy! I called Tim today to clarify a number of items on a home inspection report. My husband and I are purchasing an old Victorian on Lincoln Ave. in St Paul. He explained things well and was nice and patient. Our home inspector terrified us that it is difficult to find home insurance with knob and tube wiring (our real estate agent disagreed). Tim looked up the company he personally uses to help us out. He was honest and saved us a ton of cash. His number is saved in my phone for our kitchen remodel in the near future. read more

Will use again. Everything you'd expect. Was very comfortable and knowledgeable with our old house. One cool thing was Tim found some antique dolls while doing the work. Best money I've spent in a long while. Thanks Tim! read more

Tim was great. He called me back right away, and when I described the issue, he recommended that I call Excel and see if the problem was on their end (since it would be free). So after we found out it was not Excel's issue, I called back Tim at 6:30 at night. He answered right away, and had us try some things ourselves. Those things didn't work, so he had us send some photos of our fuse box, gave us his hourly rate, and scheduled a time for the next morning. He arrived right on time, fixed the problem quite fast, and stuck to the promised rate. The rate was expensive, but I assume competitive. I'd recommend Tim. read more

I'm glad we called Tim about our circuit popping off with no explanation. He showed up on time and did a thorough review of the problem and possible causes before making suggestions. I can't recommend Tim and his apprentice highly enough! By the time we heard back from our other quote requests, Tim had already been out to our house and resolved our electrical issues. Thanks Tim, you guys rock! :) read more

Solid service. He has not yet actually done any work for me based on his schedule being busy but theres a lot to be said about a business that takes care of people they may not make money off of. I mentioned that my schedule was a little tighter than he would allow, yet he answered all my questions with a great attitude and explained things that I was able to understand easily. I see a negative review on here about him not responding, his first response was fast and it took a little while for the next, but like any REASONABLE person would do, I called the guy as he asked (as unfortunate as it sounds, these businesses arent DRIVEN and in business cause of yelp so they cant sit on here 24/7, I get it) and things were great! I will definitely be adding this guy to my list of vendors to call up if I need some electrical work. read more
