When I noted a stellar deal on Groupon I didn't think twice before making the purchase. Setting the scene: I consider myself a new age yogi - bring on the heat, bring on the power yoga, & bring on the acrobatic yoga. Before attending my first class the thought of taking something mindful and meditative honestly terrified me. Not knowing what to expect I showed up wearing some new cool yoga gear (for confidence of course) as well as a somewhat open mind. Laura was quick to welcome me to the class and get me signed in (each practitioner receives a card which indicates to the teacher what kind of membership they have. If you ask nicely Laura may offer you a cute animal sticker to adorn your card and make it a bit easier to locate upon check-in). The other class attendees were more warm and welcoming than any class I've taken in the past 14 years I've been practicing. Each time I went up to retrieve a prop the person in front of me in line offered one to me. This is something I frequently do in class and this is the first time I've have the courtesy extended to me - it felt great! The class itself was a rare treat. Stretching and breathing into postures has never felt so good. Rather than huffing, puffing, and sweating through class the vibe and Laura's gentle guidance (and clever sharp humor) set the scene for a truly rejuvenating and healing session (I'm currently struggling with some wrist and knee issues). Today I had the pleasure of bringing my partner along and he proudly proclaimed to the teacher that this 'was the best yoga class he has ever experienced'. I'm looking forward to attending many more classes during my membership and hope you also consider giving iyengar yoga a go at this lovely Boulder studio.

Firstly, the teacher Laura is dedicated to working with all kinds of students. Interestingly, she's got a huge heart for Kids with rare diseases and helps them with specific yoga positions. For many years she has taught anatomy for Iyengar students and teachers in locations around the globe. I especially want to emphasize that you get to just be yourself here and not worry about whether you're doing it right, if you look good, or need to be competitive. It's comfortable and welcoming. Sometimes it's fun. Sometimes it's hard. Sometimes it's a new pose you never imagined. Rain or shine, it's happening there, nearly every day of the year. Check it out.

It is just as beautiful as i remember it. There are many buildings where you will participate or can participate in various things . There are also several hiking trails available to you to use. There are currently a lot of moose in the area so if you go up and are out on the trails be sure to be on the look out. The day retreat started with some art. (this was okay, I went because my friend is into art. if i had been on my own i would have opted to go hiking instead during this time) After this was a break and then yoga class. Then lunch. They have a homemade vegetarian/vegan lunch. You can request gluten free in advance. Their food is seriously amazing! It is worth the price of the day retreat just to come and enjoy the food! It is so so good! After lunch, you can do an hour of volunteer work in the kitchen. It is the kind thing to do especially since the prices of their retreats are actually pretty afforable. give back. After that you have a couple of hours of free time to go do what you please. There is a pond you could kayak/canoe on. Or bring up your paddleboard. go hiking. Sit in the reading room. Sit on one of the hammocks in the trees. go meditate. so many choices! After that you can come back for an afternoon yoga class, and then dinner! Again so yummy! It is rare to find some place that can make such delicious homemade vegan and gluten free food. After that they do some ceremonial stuff, you can choose to participate in that or not. Highly recommend having a retreat here, it was very relaxing.

Easy booking, easy check-in and out. The food is awesome and even with the combo of a big appetite and vegetarian food I never ate the beef jerky I brought as a backup. The not so basics: You just have to experience this place for yourself - It's like some kind of vortex. Doing yoga and meditating up there is just different, more real somehow. Not many places like this around.

A bit crowded on weekends and the "in" crowd is there in full regalia - Boulder that is not Tibetan - though they do have events with "real" tibetan monks. Going through the meditation classes is a bit dry. Everything means nothing etc etc etc Dreams mean nothing Suffering is illusory sorry can't buy it all but then do you have to? I.E. if it doesn't have substance, meaning or is an illusion can it be digested, bought or believed?

As far as coming here to experience something spiritual, it's not doing it for me…read more I went to a weekend retreat taught by the main Tibetan teacher called 'The Sakyong". Not sure why there is a 'the' in front of his name but maybe has something to do with his grandiosity and all the pomp and circumstance around his arrival and him sitting on a gold throne that was placed in the room high above everyone sitting on these small, brick-like square cushions on the floor. I though Buddhism was a religion that teaches having no ego and this was not something that seemed like that. The ego of this Sakyong was very noticeable and he also lacked any passion or real presence. I just get the feeling that this place is about making tons of money off of the Boulder community seeking spiritual guidance and meditation instruction. There is also another huge center run by the same teacher and upon a further internet search I found there are these Shambhala Centers all over the USA and even around the world. I guess Buddhism is a big money business and the Shambhala organization is certainly cleaning up. When I saw "The Sakyong" arriving in his black Escalade with other BMW and Escalade SUV's pulling up behind him and his door being opened by some attendant and then all the people outside and inside bowing to him like he was some sort of Buddhist king, I was completely shocked. Not what I expected. Maybe I don't know about Buddhism enough, but this was enough for me to know I don't want to pursue this as a spiritual path.

Ever since, he has become quite prolific in the art form and source of meditative practice and creative passion. As Grab explains on his website Gravity Glue: Balance requires a minimum of three contact points. Luckily, every rock is covered in a variety of tiny to large indentations that can act as a natural tripod for the rock to stand upright, or in most orientations you can think of with other rocks. By paying close attention to the vibrations of the rocks, you will start to feel even the smallest "clicks" as the notches of the rocks are moving over one another. He recently returned from the Swiss alps where he was flown in to perform live at a private party in Davos during the World Economic Forum 2015. He stated it is the biggest gig of his career thus far. He is available for workshops and live appearances and can be contacted through his website. Wikipedia explains rock balancing as being an art, discipline, or hobby (depending upon the intent of the practitioner) in which rocks are balanced on top of one another in various positions. There are no tricks involved to aid in the balancing, such as adhesives, wires, supports, or rings. Styles of balancing: Pure balance - each rock in near-point balance Counterbalance - lower rocks depend on the weight of upper rocks to maintain balance Balanced stacking - rocks lain flat upon each other to great height ***update, Discovery Canada did a feature on Michael Grab lastnight and you can see it here (his segment is last and starts at the 12 minute mark). http://www.discovery.ca/Video?vid=537087
