5 stars + 2 stars = 3.5 but ... well OK I will round up…read more Beautiful mediation space at top with inspiring flatiron/mountain views out classic 1920's windows and the space is beautiful Tibetan art with bright colors but getting to the top of these stairs is a different thing. A bit crowded on weekends and the "in" crowd is there in full regalia - Boulder that is not Tibetan - though they do have events with "real" tibetan monks. Going through the meditation classes is a bit dry. Everything means nothing etc etc etc Dreams mean nothing Suffering is illusory sorry can't buy it all but then do you have to? I.E. if it doesn't have substance, meaning or is an illusion can it be digested, bought or believed?

As far as coming here to experience something spiritual, it's not doing it for me…read more I went to a weekend retreat taught by the main Tibetan teacher called 'The Sakyong". Not sure why there is a 'the' in front of his name but maybe has something to do with his grandiosity and all the pomp and circumstance around his arrival and him sitting on a gold throne that was placed in the room high above everyone sitting on these small, brick-like square cushions on the floor. I though Buddhism was a religion that teaches having no ego and this was not something that seemed like that. The ego of this Sakyong was very noticeable and he also lacked any passion or real presence. I just get the feeling that this place is about making tons of money off of the Boulder community seeking spiritual guidance and meditation instruction. There is also another huge center run by the same teacher and upon a further internet search I found there are these Shambhala Centers all over the USA and even around the world. I guess Buddhism is a big money business and the Shambhala organization is certainly cleaning up. When I saw "The Sakyong" arriving in his black Escalade with other BMW and Escalade SUV's pulling up behind him and his door being opened by some attendant and then all the people outside and inside bowing to him like he was some sort of Buddhist king, I was completely shocked. Not what I expected. Maybe I don't know about Buddhism enough, but this was enough for me to know I don't want to pursue this as a spiritual path.

I've walked/biked by this studio every day for over a year and just recently had the pleasure to…read moreenjoy a class. When I noted a stellar deal on Groupon I didn't think twice before making the purchase. Setting the scene: I consider myself a new age yogi - bring on the heat, bring on the power yoga, & bring on the acrobatic yoga. Before attending my first class the thought of taking something mindful and meditative honestly terrified me. Not knowing what to expect I showed up wearing some new cool yoga gear (for confidence of course) as well as a somewhat open mind. Laura was quick to welcome me to the class and get me signed in (each practitioner receives a card which indicates to the teacher what kind of membership they have. If you ask nicely Laura may offer you a cute animal sticker to adorn your card and make it a bit easier to locate upon check-in). The other class attendees were more warm and welcoming than any class I've taken in the past 14 years I've been practicing. Each time I went up to retrieve a prop the person in front of me in line offered one to me. This is something I frequently do in class and this is the first time I've have the courtesy extended to me - it felt great! The class itself was a rare treat. Stretching and breathing into postures has never felt so good. Rather than huffing, puffing, and sweating through class the vibe and Laura's gentle guidance (and clever sharp humor) set the scene for a truly rejuvenating and healing session (I'm currently struggling with some wrist and knee issues). Today I had the pleasure of bringing my partner along and he proudly proclaimed to the teacher that this 'was the best yoga class he has ever experienced'. I'm looking forward to attending many more classes during my membership and hope you also consider giving iyengar yoga a go at this lovely Boulder studio.

There's a lot to like about this yoga studio…read more It's easy to drop in for a class randomly or go consistently. There's classes for beginners or experts. Firstly, the teacher Laura is dedicated to working with all kinds of students. Interestingly, she's got a huge heart for Kids with rare diseases and helps them with specific yoga positions. For many years she has taught anatomy for Iyengar students and teachers in locations around the globe. I especially want to emphasize that you get to just be yourself here and not worry about whether you're doing it right, if you look good, or need to be competitive. It's comfortable and welcoming. Sometimes it's fun. Sometimes it's hard. Sometimes it's a new pose you never imagined. Rain or shine, it's happening there, nearly every day of the year. Check it out.
