Pretzel appetizer was good. Chips tasted burnt. Ordered the roasted vegetable salad and was thoroughly disappointed. My whole party got served before me and I still waited 30 min for it to come out. Had to send multiple waitresses back to check on it. People in my party even started offering me their food because they felt bad. By the time it came out, half my party was done eating, and the salad was piping hot, which made the lettuce under it soggy. Had multiple comments on how it didn't look appetizing from multiple people that accompanied me. Only reason I am giving it 2 stars is because they took it off my bill. I've added a star, they've definitely improved the process and having been here at least 30 times since my last review I felt it time to speak up. Tom and staff have completely overhauled their processes and improved the kitchen's output. It's easily seen how the improvements have helped to kick the food quality up a notch, and the friendliness of the staff is greater than ever! MY REC' - Ok, so normally I'd try to recommend something house made, in which case i'd recommend any of the flat breads or mac'n'outs, but my favorite are the beer battered square mozzarella sticks, they're delicious! PROs: Staff are extremely friendly, drinks are mixed perfectly & consistently, There is always plenty of seating with only short wait times, and they've got street side outdoor seating. My boyfriend and I just had dinner here tonight and we absolutely loved it. Camille, our waitress, was awesome and very attentive. We got the potato skins for an appetizer and they are the best we have ever had. My sex on the mountain drink was very yummy too. My boyfriend got the Cheeseter and I got the Clothier and both were phenomenal. I've seen other bad reviews on here about how long people had to wait for their food but we had no problem and were in and out under an hour. We will definitely be back soon. read more

Both my date and I had burgers and we were drooling over them! We both ordered "the twiggster" and it was amazing. The burger buns specifically made the meal. We did a split between regular and sweet potato fries and they were also very good! One thing that sticks out about this restaurant is that you can have a turkey burger or black bean burger instead of beef- perfect for those vegetarians out there. This is the second time I've visited Twiggs and the food was great (I highly recommend the cheese fries starter). Our service, however, was horrible. Our server, Taylor, neglected our table and did not return with waters, boxes/checks, etc. for more than 20 minutes at a time. We were there for almost two hours. It was not busy by any means. I understand that lots of places are short staffed and, as someone who has worked in the food industry before, I understand how difficult the position can be. That being said, I was incredibly dissatisfied with the service as a whole. Would recommend the food but certainly would recommend requesting a different server. read more

Gastropubs and brewpubs are definitely my thing and I had high hopes for Twiggs. The owners are clearly onto something, but there are things I feel could be changed too. The burgers are pretty tasty. Wish they came with the fries rather than chips though. $2 extra to get fries with a $12 burger was unexpected. The fries are tasty, but other gastropubs we've been to give the choice of fries or chips and only onion rings cost extra. Can't say enough about 14th Star Brewing and was slightly disappointed that there was no Valor on tap, but a trip to 14th Star after dinner proved that the brewery was also out of Valor. Disappointment came when one in our party ordered a Switchback and the beer received tasted of berries. It tasted like someone filled the glass half way with Blackberry Wheat and then switched it over. Not a tasty beer when you're expecting Switchback. Finally, the bigger disappointment is the waffle fries that come with the fish and chips and chicken. These are clearly frozen, prepackaged and not that great. I really wish they'd do away with them and just stick to their handcut fries. Music inside was an older man playing piano, it wans't bad. Walking outside though, the music was blasting and I can see now why I've heard that eating outside isn't appealing. read more

I have been here twice so far, and here is how I feel about Twiggs. My first impression was good. There is a nice atmosphere here, with bits of artistic detail here and there. The general mood is nice, if you go on a slower night. This is where things get interested. If you go on a busy night, everything changes. It goes from a nice mellow atmosphere to a hectic and at times obnoxiously loud atmosphere. The food is okay and the service is decent, but it's better if you go on a slower night. Also, on busier nights, they close the kitchen early because of all of the orders, so don't expect to order anything if you plan on getting here later. I was impressed so see a place like this in St. Albans though. It shows me that maybe this town is ready to become a part of the foodie culture in Vermont. read more

I came here for lunch. I had the fish tacos. The nice part about the fish tacos was you could choose between fried haddock or baked haddock. I chose the baked haddock. It would have been nice to offer something besides fries or chips since they were offering a non-fried fish. The fish tacos tasted nice for Americanized tacos. My server was very friendly and attentive. Full disclosure: I came here at 2 pm on a Tuesday and the place only had a couple of tables occupied. Most days I'm pretty forgiving but not tonight. I went to Twiggs to see if I could grab some food & watch the Red Sox. At 6:15pm, I ordered some cheese fries and asked if they could change the channel to the Sox game. The response was a point by "Camilla" to the basketfull of remotes. Stopped in here for dinner (because nothing else was open) and was pleasantly surprised. Twiggs has good food, a nice menu, and pleasant outdoor seating. The town of St. Albans is gorgeous, so I would suggest sitting outside, then taking a stroll in the town common after your dinner. Our waiter was super nice, and even gave us a few suggestions for what to do while in the area. Lastly I have to mention one thing, the Twiggy! Twiggs own dessert, made with a freshly baked cookie and topped with your choice is ice cream and whipped cream. It is absolutely delicious, so make sure not to leave the restaurant without ordering one. We ended up coming a second time just to get more Twiggys. read more

I will start off by saying the food was delicious. The fried mac n' cheese balls were delicious, and the pulled pork sliders were great. But there were a few things lacking... For a gastropub, I would imagine there being many many beers on tap. Well... There was only 7, and one was Bud light? Really? I expect many on tap options and for it to be high quality beer. The other issue was the service. The mac n' cheese balls come in 3, we asked if there was any chance we could get 4 since there was 4 of us. Carrie our waitress said no, without even asking anyone. Then I had orders fries instead of chips, and got chips. My mother asked for her dressing in te side of her salad, it was right on top of the salad. My sister asked for waffle fries, but got regular instead. My sister was still finishing her dinner, and Carrie asks if we're having dessert, and after we said no she brought us te bill. Usually waitresses wait till everyone is done with their meals before bringing the bill. I also noticed the hostess didnt really smile, and seemed like I was bothering her by walking through the door. The entire staff seemed to havea slight attitude making it clear they didn't want to be there as they all hung out around the bar and by the hostess stand. Great meal, poor service. Maybe it could be on one of those Food Network shows where they set up secret cameras and address these issues. read more

So Twiggs, they are kind of a powerhouse in St Albans, I think the owner has a few places around town, couple other bars so attention to detail get kind of lost in the shuffle. Twiggs has lots of seating, almost always open, great outdoor seating when the weather is right, and they even deliver if you're close enough. Some of the food is pretty good, some is hit/miss. They say they have a vegetable of the day, but it's always the same mix of squash, onions, and carrots, and they're always over cooked, not sure if they've been previously frozen? The burger buns are weirdly dense, maybe grilling them would help? The beer cheese is really good, though. And I've been pleased with the salmon oddly enough. Most of the quality of the food is ok. Basically it's a good place to go if there's nothing else, but I feel they could be absolutely fantastic if they really wanted to be. I think this is a place where you try a few things, find your favorite and stick with that. The other thing that's a little odd is there seems to be a constantly rotating staff which is usually an indication that's it's not the greatest place to work, but that's just an observation and has no evidence or experience to back it up. read more

Very disappointing. The service was inattentive: we asked for water, and the server brought one glass. No check-ins to see if everything was okay. Rude and mostly MIA. The fish tacos were virtually just a piece of fried fish in a flour tortilla. The calamari was soggy, with breading that was falling off and bland. Only the burger seemed like it had been a good choice. I don't know how this place gets away with calling itself a gastropub, which to me implies a pub with high quality food. So......my husband and I decided to give Twiggs the 5th try! Hoping either they got a new chef or had changed. We have to say neither happened. Their food takes FOREVER to come out, I mean an hour for a simple deep fried appetizer when there are 2 tables and 2 other people sitting at the bar. This is unacceptable. We intentionally haven't gone there within the last year because of this reason. Their wait time for food is absolutely ridiculous, but thought hey it's been a year let's try again, wrong choice. And their food rates a 3 out of 10. We ordered 2 beers and the "sampler" app, didn't receive this until an hour after we ordered! Totally crazy! It is just moz. sticks, friend green beans, pickles (which they were out of so we got potato skins) and chicken bbq nuggets for $15. We got a handful of green beans, 2 potato skins, 7 fried chicken nuggets, and 4 moz sticks. No way in heck did this value an hour wait or $15! We expected a lot more and it came in a small gravy boat looking dish. Then we both ordered the "grandmas grilled cheese" one with tomato artichoke soup and 1 with fries. Unfortunately they use a house-made "beer cheese sauce" on everything from loaded fries, nachos, to their tomato artichoke soup. I am a vegetarian and found this extremely frustrating because it was on a third of the menu! It has chicken stock in it, I mean come on just make it vegetarian to serve more than meat eating customers because it is on a big part of the menu. My husband got his and mine took an additional 10 minutes to come out, an hour and a half after ordering. I absolutely hate mayonnaise. The grilled cheese tasted like strong mayo, they must have used it instead of butter and just assumed I didn't have an egg allergy. I asked on of the bartenders if they used mayo and they said "they didn't put mayo on it did they" and then they continued to tell me it didn't have mayo on it (without asking the kitchen) and that is was just butter, bread and cheese. I call BS on that. She didn't seem surprised that it didn't taste good. They absolutely smear mayo on the bread instead of butter and really didn't appreciate the waitress telling me they didn't, to someone who hates mayo it tasted disgusting. So $56 later we absolutely regretted giving Twigs a 5th try and would absolutely not recommend this to anyone and don't ever plan on going back! We were driving through St Albans and wanted lunch. We stopped at Twiggs and were seated outdoors immediately. The waitress was very nice and we felt very safe. The menu was varied. We chose the Twiggs mac'n out and the maple bacon chicken flatbread. They were both delicious. We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

My wife and I stopped by to relax on a Friday after a hard day at work. We'd heard good things about the Twiggster burger and were anxious to try it. I got the Twiggster, she got the Piggster, and we were both smiling when two enormous burgers showed up. Normally we appreciate an outrageously over-sized burger that has to properly attacked, but...the burger itself? The actual meat? I'm not sure how they made it, because both came out as absolute bricks. I ordered medium rare, my wife medium, but both were solid, resembling someone's horribly overcooked meatloaf than anything else. The decor was nice, the server not terrible but not great either. Telling us we "sure were fast" with finishing our appetizers was akin of telling us they were taking way too long. The Green Mountain I had had almost zero alcohol, and yes, ultimately, the burgers a terrible, messy disappointment. I don't mind a sloppy burger when it melts in your mouth...this one I couldn't force my way through. My wife sawed her way through it and tried to see the bright side, but ultimately, this place is a pub. No doubt a decent place for a beer, but not a meal. It's a shame we never got a chance to try Chow Bella being relatively new in town. read more
