So looking forward to another visit to St Albains and home of 14th Star Brewing. One of my favorite local breweries in this area. While there I was able to sample a number of their ales and lagers from tap and cans. Some cans even traveled back home. And of course, I quickly jumped onto their their fan band wagon, not quite like on of the Beatles crazed screaming groupies from the 60's or Ken Kesey's Electric KoolAid Bus, but in terms of Ales - pretty darn close! Some of my favorites sampled: Tribute 8.1% DIPA, Maple Breakfast Stout 6.5%, Valor Ale 5.2% Lighter Amber Ale, Citranade 7.7% IPA, their decadent Wee Heavy 8.9% Scotch Ale. Their tap and brew list ever changing to keep those fan's mouth watering, including others like Sours, Marzen, Weiss', Kolsch, Boch, Stouts, Smoked Ales, Wild/Farmhouses', and barrel aged concoctions. Excellent local brewery with friendly people and a comfortable, cavernous sitting area. Squeak clean bathroom is a huge plus. It's always fun to see the fermentation tanks and other innards of a working brewery while downing a pint or two. Variety of beer is impressive ranging from American pale ale to triple IPA with IBU from 20 to over 45. Food on site is a different business where you order separately pub grubs like burgers and sandwiches. Took me awhile to appreciate the name 14th Star for a Vermont business. Not lots happening in these parts. It's strange to see that this brewer is in a strip mall (insert confused head tilt). The big space good for groups or hanging out on a snowy afternoon which one would assume they get quite a lot of those here. Staff was friendly. Games for adults and kids. Live band. They only offer fresh pretzels. That's it. Zilch. Zip. Nada. That was disappointing. So I love the Tribute in the can which was one of the reason for coming all the way up here. But surprisingly I did not like it on tap. Nor did I like 72. We had two flights so I tried everything. Nothing made me do the happy dance. read more

Was in town for work and this brewery was walking distance to the hotel! Had a wonderful visit. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The bar was a great place to sit and there was plenty of space for large groups at the big picnic tables. They also had seating outside. The beer selection is pretty good. My favorite was the Valor Ale. You can also get growlers and 6 packs to take home. I didn't eat the food, but it seemed like a lot of people were enjoying it. Stopped in here with 45 minutes to an hour to hang, and really liked the place. Had a beer flight, liked all of it, the ginger may have been my fave as it was unique. Loved the VT shaped flight boards. The woman working behind the counter, who I presume was the owner, was very cool and helpful. Bought a hoodie to take home to remember the experience and a 4 pack of beer for souvenir purposes. They had food but we didn't try any this time. Great beer in St. Albans right outside of the downtown area. I had a sampler and was not disappointed with any of the IPAs, the cream ale (Eleven's Eggo, yummy) or the sour. Definitely would go again, and their cans are awesome also. Valor for the win. Would love to do a tour if ever visited and the owner was there. Really like the vibe and beer that place is giving off. read more

I hate giving this a mediocre review, but it was a mediocre experience. Having loved Valor & the older version of breakfast stout, I thought the tap room would be an even better experience. They offered tons more on draft, about 12. I was disappointed with all. The hike to St Albans was simply not worth it. Skip the drive and try the cans, they are everywhere! Sad face. Was hoping for more. And for the food options to start earlier. read more

Wow! What an upgrade from the last location. This place is huge and was packed on a Friday night. A band was playing and it was loud inside. We managed to get a few seats at the bar and my husband tried a few of their beers. The beers are also a huge change. During our last visit I think they had three beers at most. Now there were at least a dozen on draft to choose from, some were very unusual. There's popcorn to snack on while you are sipping and you can take home a growler or 4-pack of most of their beers. Since we can't get it in Massachusetts, my husband snagged a few four-packs of his favorite, Valor. Worth a visit for sure. read more

Just finished an awesome 5k run for beer today at 14 Star! I was super impressed with their outreach efforts in the community. The race was well organized, shirts were awesome and the beer at the finish was epic. I tried the Wishful Thinking and fell in love! I admit I haven't been into the new 14th Star since they moved to the bowling alley. I tend to avoid bars as I hate the crowds and definitely do not like rowdy drinkers. While waiting for our take out, my brother dragged me into 14th Star for a pint. I have to say I'm impressed. First, it was (to quote Billy Joel) 5 o'clock on a Saturday. Few people were in there, so it was nice and quiet with plenty of elbow room at the bar. I am a huge fan of Coffee IPA, and much to my delight, they happened to have theirs on tap. It's a winner! The bartender told me they make theirs with cold brewed coffee, which happens to be my favorite way to have coffee. The coffee is present without being overpowering, and the IPA is nice and hoppy without being in your face. We also had the Oktoberfest, tasty, and my husband had the IPL, which again is tasty, though all three of us voted for the Coffee IPA as being the winning beer that night. Second, the ambiance is perfect. There is tons of space. Choose from a seat or standing room at the expansive bar or head to one of the tables. We opted to stand at the bar knowing we were waiting for our food to be ready. I'm definitely not one of the tallest people out there at 5'5", so the bar was the perfect height for me and comfortable to lean against, put elbows on the table (I know that's impolite, but...) and settle in. I do wish 14th Star was serving food like originally planned. That's what I've been waiting on. I know they have grilled cheeses now and there is popcorn, but I was eager for the brewpub that was originally planned and still hope they'll get there. For prices, we bought three pints, a 4-pack, and a growler and it was about $35, so not bad at all. read more

This location has a lot to offer. I love their Tribute beer, and the cheap flights. When I visited the 14th Star tap room on vacation in February 2016, there was a surf rock band playing on a Friday night; coupled with a lively atmosphere. Unfortunately, my experience was overshadowed by the rudest bartender I have ever met in my life. When ordering a flight, I asked for her recommendation, and was served with a condescending response (she said could not recommend anything because she had no idea what kind beer I liked). Her negative attitude and condescending demeanor only increased throughout the night. If you're part of a brewery, you should be able to talk to customers about your product. I'm hoping she is the only bad apple, so I can visit 14th Star again without a side of sass. read more

The brewery has a great bar and is rustic in flare. They have about 10 of their beers made in house on tap along with a few other local breweries as "guests". I am so frustrated trying to arrange bar service with 14th Star, that I will never visit the establishment again. I tried for literally several months to communicate via email to nail down the details and the follow up on their end was abysmal. I eventually gave up which was extremely disappointing because their pricing far beat the competitors I checked with. But, I am willing to pay much more to make sure service is on point at my event. This brewery rocks! It's off the beaten path if you aren't from St. Albans, but it's totally worth driving to. My wife and I went about a half hour out of our way to visit 14th star and really enjoyed our stay. The location has ample seating room and a big bar, you can see the beer being made, and they have a few board games. Best of all, they offer free cheese/crackers and popcorn! Even better, the beer is super cheap and very, very good. This was probably my favorite brewery I visited in my 2 days in Vermont. This place struck me as just over-the-top nice, and with good beer to boot, I'd give it a solid 5 star rating. Support this brewery! read more

The spacious bar is nice, and let's be honest, having an adjoining BBQ joint does NOT hurt! Many 14th star brews are on tap as well as guest beers, ciders, and meads. I enjoyed a Hermit Thrush and my husband got a flight of four 14th star brews - Who's Barb, Chocolate Cherry, Maple Breakfast, and Recruit - none of them were dogs. Recruit was a particularly good light yeasty beer. Who's Barb, while hoppy, was interesting and not bitter. The other two are good darker beers for a cold day. We were never fans of their Valor Ale, which shows up in so many restaurants, so it was a pleasant surprise to see how much they have expanded in selection and how good the quality is. read more

Very upset with what they are transforming into. My first experiences there were great. Chill place with good beer. However, I went there last night and it was awful. They had horrible music playing so loud you had to yell to talk, even when the person was 6 inches away. SIX INCHES (All my other music experiences there were the same; just turn it down a notch). Also, the music was horrible; It's like they were trying to become the next Kingman St dive bar with that music. This place should not become a place for girls screaming and dancing to music. It has so much potential. The ambiance they should be aiming for is that of the Whiskey Room. You have the look and the beer; Stay classy. If you want music, have a local band; it would make a unique and enjoyable experience. Your place should not have a DJ, ever. On another note, the bartenders are rude and always seem to be in horrible mood, which ruins the vibe of the bar and the experience. I don't want to be served by someone who is pissed to be there. This place was my "go to" in St. A, but if things don't change I'm afraid I will not going there anymore. I may be one customer, but when people ask my how the place was, I'd rather give them a good rating. Please use your potential 14 Star. read more

Beer, live music, and vibes were great! I came in with a friend from Germany and they did not accept her license. The first time they served to her, but the second beer she was denied by a different server. they told her that she needed to have her passport as a "true" form of identity. It was hard for me to believe that they did not have any experience with this and how to handle this situation, especially with the brewery being located so close to the Canadian boarder. We did however enjoy our time and would recommend this brewery to anyone in the area, just a heads up to any foreigners to bring your passport! read more

Absolutely worth the trip! I was staying in Burlington with my wife and had heard from a bartender on Church St. that the beers at 14th Star were amazing... he was right! The place is large with ample seating and plenty of room at the bar. While enjoying a beer you're overlooking the actual brewery and the equipment. I can't say enough about it, and as an added bonus they give back to different veterans organizations and their families. A true gem! read more
