Checked out Tūtū place while we were at bishop museum for the first time, it's a part of Highway Inn. They have a variety of foods, sourdough melts, hawaiian food plates, spam musubi, s&s Saimin, tater puffs (tater tots), cookies, desserts, shave ice, flat breads, croissants. We tried the kalua pig and smoked beef and cheddar sourdough melts, it came with sweeet onion chips or could upgrade $1.99 to tater puffs, just got the chips. The melts were great they take 10 min to make and they let you know at the front which is nice. Both were great not large portions, we thought by the picture online we could share it but glad we ordered our own. The fountain drink $3.99 was pretty large so glad we only got one of those. And they have sprunch - fruit punch and sprite! What's great is they have a little play dress up kids toys corner in tutu place for kids to play, there's a few tables inside to sit down and tables outside. While visiting the Bishop Museum last month, I was a little hungry and grabbed a bite to eat at this little cafe. I got the Hawaiian plate which came with smoked shredded pork, sweet purple potato, macaroni salad, and rice with a slice of huapia(coconut gelatin). The pork was smoky and moist. It was so delicious! The macaroni salad and huapia was also surprisingly good! I never thought a little cafe in a museum would be so great! This place is a must if you are at the museum! read more

Tutu's place is located at the Bishop Museum to the right of the entrance, next to the planetarium. Parking is in the paid lot or free on the street. It's run by Highway Inn so iykyk their Hawaiian food will be ono. The decor is adorable! It gives plantation home vibes with a corner for the Keiki to play and be distracted while waiting for the food. The menu isn't extensive compared to their sister restaurants but they have options from kalua pig to poke bowls to S&S saimin. I ordered the Hawaiian plate for about $19, which comes with potato mac/lomi/greens, rice, kalua pig, haupia, and sweet potato. It's beautifully presented in a paper box. Their kalua pig for those not familiar is a smoked pulled pork, lightly salted. Really good! The crossaint sandwich my MIL ordered came with a few thick slices of ham, cheese, veg, and Maui onion chips. Bigger than expected! Tried the spam Musubi kids meal too $8.99. Comes with a Musubi, cutie orange, and oatmeal cookie, and juice. The kids enjoyed it. Appreciate they also offer hot dog and other kids options. Overall, super cute decor. Good food. Located in Bishop Museum, Tutu's Place is an adorable spot to grab a bite to eat. When they first opened, it was quite busy, with a wait of about 30-45 minutes to order. The space is not large, but very cozy and kid-friendly! There are things for the kids to play with. I love the decor as it pays homage to the history of old Hawaii, including photographs of past establishments. The food is delicious! It's run by Highway Inn, so there is a variety of local-style choices that are sure to satisfy everyone's cravings. My favorite is the beef stew, but they had run out that day we were there. Cute casual restaurant/cafe located in Bishop Museum, next to the planetarium and gift shop. I went at 12:30 pm and there was a line forming. There is no online ordering, so plan accordingly to beat the lunch rush. The menu is easy to read and has local favorites: lau lau, kalua pork, musubis, and beef stew. There's also coffee and sweets available for purchase. I ordered the weekly special: mochiko chicken and waited on the side. There's a limited number of tables indoors and outdoors. I grabbed a seat inside and saw kids playing in a dress up area. Thought that was a nice touch for making the cafe interactive. I waited about 10-15 minutes for my food. Once your food is ready, the staff will announce your name on the PA system. I picked up my food and dug in. My mochiko chicken plate was piping hot, accompanied by a scoop of white rice and salad with lilikoi dressing. The mochiko chicken tasted fresh and flavorful. One of the best mochiko chickens I've ever had. I normally dislike salad, but the dressing was so ono I finished the whole thing. My plate was $16.99. If you have a toddler or young kids but don't like dining out as it can be a little stressful with young kids, then Tutu's Place is a must!! Located at the Bishop Museum (you don't have to pay for entry if you just want to eat here), they serve Hawaiian/local food (by Highway Inn) and kid friendly meals. I love coming here because they have a little play area with dress up clothes, a kitchen and other toys visible from the dining tables which makes it easy to supervise your child/children. My daughter loves the play area and I can enjoy my meal in peace (sort of) lol. So far I've had their sourdough tuna melt with tater puffs (tater tots), their flatbreads and shave ice. I'll have to try their Hawaiian Plate next. I also love that they have coffee and they use Pono Potions syrup!! So for all you parents out there who need their caffeine fix, they got you covered. Tutu's Place is located inside the Bishop Museum. You don't have to pay an entrance fee to get in, just go through the gift shop. My hubby and I met Auntie for lunch here during winter break. We went on a Tuesday and it wasn't too busy. Since it was during winter break, there were a lot of kids around. Auntie got the Hawaiian Plate $17.99 (kalua pig, white rice, sweet potato, lomi salmon and haupia. My hubby got the Smoked Beef Sourdough Melt $16.99 that came with Maui onion chips. I got the Beef Stew Plate $16.99 that came with white rice and potato mac salad. The sourdough melt and beef stew plate came with measly portions. I counted five pieces of beef on my plate. The Hawaiian plate was worth it. It had so much more food on there. The food was good. It's the same food they serve at Highway Inn. I really liked the smoked beef in the melt. It had a really strong smoky taste. The beef stew was on the salty side. The decor was awesome. It was vintage with wood furnishings and very kid friendly. Lunch inside of Bishop Museum in Kalihi, Honolulu, Hawai'i... Tutu's Place is connected with Highway Inn... so, if you like local style food, this is a good place to visit. Note: "Tutu" means grandmother, although there is no "t" in Hawaiian language. It's actually kuku, instead of tutu, but tutu is the more common term. PARKING: we went on a weekday, so there was a lot of free street parking. If you park in the lot, it's all paid parking. Residents of Hawaii get half off on the parking price. Usually, everyone pays to get into Bishop Museum. We told the receptionist that we were going to the restaurant and they waved us in. We walked through the air-conditioned gift shop and entered the next building. Inside Tutu's Place, the children were having a great time - pounding on the toys and dressing up! There was a cheerful ambiance! The furnishings were quite beautiful and felt Hawaiian-ish! Service was efficient and included some Aloha Spirit! Order, pay, and pickup at the counter. Seat yourself on a first come, first served basis! We both wanted Luau Squid, but it's only served on Fridays and Saturdays... shucks! Tutu's place is located i aide Bishop museum and basically serves food that you can find at Highway Inn. It's a small place with a few tables indoor. There are a few tables outside but it can get quite hot around lunch time. There's a play area inside the restaurant which is great for kids to hang out while grown ups can relax and enjoy the food. It's a very cozy and comfortable environment with plenty of natural light coming through the window. I wanted to have squid luau and ahi poke but both items were out so I ordered a cheese flatbread and spam musubi instead. I mean it's pretty hard to mess up these items. They're ok, not the greatest. Staff were nice. Felt like they were understaffed with so many museum visitors coming in for lunch around the same time. The line was super long so be prepared for the wait. read more

I used to like this place but won't be coming back. I anticipated the long wait to order but not the long wait for 20 min+ for bread and ice cream. I ordered those items since there was a long wait for food that had to be cooked. When we finally got our single scoop of ice cream, it barely filled half the cup and looked more like half-eaten ice cream. What a surprise that the BM finally has a great dining spot. We ordered flat bread with smoked meat ( how often do you find smoked meat on any menu) $16.99 and Tofu Watercress salad $16.99. Nice portions. Very tasty food!! Same great quality as their Highway Inn restaurant. Being in a museum, they had an educational component: the history of local food in Hawaii. The decor was cozy and comfortable, with a couches, benches as well as table and chairs for seating options. Even a keiki corner with books and dress up clothes. I will probably return even without a visit to the Bishop Museum exhibits. read more

Ordered shaved ice and banana bread took 45 minutes to get it to our table. Ridiculous would not recommend this place at all.

Food was decent, however I'm disappointed in the service. I ordered a salad along with the rest of my items and it never showed. Went back up to ask about it and they said they are working on my order and that it's coming. After waiting for a bit more I went up and asked just to get it refunded, only for them to let me know I didn't even order it in the first place as it wasn't on my receipt, that part is my fault I didn't take my receipt and check what I ordered because usually no one really worries about that. Anyways, one of the workers asks me in a condescending tone "well what did you THINK you ordered?" Excuse me? I asked multiple times about the salad so that would be the answer, also I KNOW, not think, I KNOW I ordered it. Also when I went to ask about the delay the first time, they said they are working on it and that it is coming, so that was a complete lie and they didn't even bother to check when I went up in the first place. read more
