I have nothing but great things to say about Tuttle Cameras. I've been trying to write a good review for the past few months and now I'm able to. I moved to Long Beach last year in 2022, and I recently started shooting film again and I was looking for a place like Tuttle that sells and develops film, and where I can get other photography equipment. When I moved here, I found a spot called Relics and they were not very bright there, but then I found Tuttle. Tuttle has developed my film, printed my negatives, fixed and cleaned my cameras with no problem. Every time I go into Tuttle I am greeted and treated with great customer service. Tuttle has a verity of film and great merchandise. I've also purchased backdrops and lighting equipment for a reasonable price. They also have a great customer rewards system were you are able to get a free stuff and free develops after a certain amount of times you spend money there. Never buy products from this store's website. I recently placed an order for a camera that was listed as "1 in stock" on their site. However, when I called a couple of days later to confirm, they informed me that the camera was actually out of stock. To make matters worse, they said I would need to pay a 6% credit card charge to get my refund. My receipt clearly didn't indicate that this was a pre-order, but the staff insisted it was. Their pre-order page doesn't even allow you to join a waitlist or add items to your cart. Despite the website showing "1 in stock," they claimed it was out of stock. This was a frustrating and disappointing experience--I'll never buy from this store again. read more

I've purchased and developed film here & all the staff was immensely helpful. I wanted to give a special shout out to Julian. I had just developed my first roll of 120 & it was a dud. He told me to bring in my new mamiya so he could check it out to make sure it was functioning properly. I dropped my Sony a6000 camera lens and went in to see if they could fix it. They said they would provide a free quote to see how much it would cost to get it fixed but my lens would have to be shipped to their repair lab. After two extensive weeks of not hearing anything from them, I had to call them every couple of days inquiring about their progress. Eventually, they called me back saying that the price would be around $147 to fix the camera lens motor inside. I checked the prices online for the exact same brand new camera lens, and it would cost around $130. I called back trying to negotiate if they could match that price, but they would not agree to it. I am disappointed that they could not compete or were even willing to negotiate the price for me to stay with their business. I have yet to receive my camera lens back from them since they have to ship it back to that shop. It may be another week or two before I receive my lens back. The overall process to get a price quote is nearing 3 weeks. Pros: *FRIENDLY. In-person and on the phone, they were nice and friendly. Cons: *SLOW SERVICE. I did not think it should take almost a month just to get a price quote for a repair. *NON-NEGOTIATABLE. Their prices and services are too expensive. I don't know how they can stay competitive in a business where it is cheaper to buy brand new from another store than for them to have to repair just the piece. You might as well buy brand new and save money. read more

A truly wonderful experience. As someone who is a novice in how cameras and their accompanying lenses actually function, it can be intimidating to ask for help. I did not feel anything but sincere helpfulness from the staff at Tuttle Cameras. Get your passport photos here. Not only is the lighting quality better but they let you check your picture in-camera to see if you like it. If not, they retake it until you're happy. Can't say the same for clerks in your local pharmacy who could care less and just snap your photo. They are not photographers like these guys. read more

Good vintage lenses. Good selection of cameras. Staff are energetic and helpful. If you are desperate for instant cash, you can come in to trade-in with them or KEH. Preferably sell your gear on eBay or FB marketplace, especially if your gear is niche and/or rare gear that didn't attract many even when they released. For example if you want to buy an official wide conversion for a LX3, you would need to pay around $200 to get one (and sometimes the only option on the market is to buy an entire LX3 that happens to have one included with it). KEH would offer you $30~ for it though, and Turtle would decline to purchase it, now declining to purchase is nothing against the store, it's the most respectable offer to give, infact I'd say they should do this more often if the trade won't be above 60% the value of the item. Aside from that, if you are in the market for vintage gear, or a new camera, they are exceptional when it comes to this. read more

I've been going to Tuttle Cameras for a couple of years now, and I shop with them exclusively. The team is incredibly knowledgeable and I'm comfortable asking them for advice; not a single employee made me feel stupid or embarrassed. 1.) Shopping with them was a breeze. They always call me to let me know if anything I asked for is back in stock. They have a point/cash back program, so I save some money whenever I shop gear. 2.) They partner with a different team to develop and print photos. It does take a couple of days, so you want to plan ahead if you need them by any specific date. Additionally, you can get your film digitally at a low cost if you bring your own USB. 3.) I bought a Canon AE-1 somewhere else. They brought the sweet little baby back to life at a reasonable and competitive price. 4.) They host local workshops and community photography events that are friendly for all levels. How cute is that?! Grateful for this small shop. I will continue to come here for my digital and film photography needs. :) read more

Found this place on yelp. Was looking for a camera store in the local area. My girlfriend was looking for a cheap roll of film to test out the used camera i bought online. Eric was able to help us out with the film roll and the right battery for the camera. Eric was able to help me with information about a camera I had known nothing about. We came back with the roll and had them help us develop it. Several days later, she got a call saying they were ready to be picked up. Jason was able to help us load the photos onto a usb drive at no charge. Jason mentioned that we are able to bring in the camera for a free consultation for service. Parking is plentiful! read more

They have a camera buy back thing going on, so I took my Leica M4-2 with original box and paperwork and a Voigtlander 35mm lens in. I know that when selling to a camera shop I will get about half of what it's worth on eBay because they need to make a profit. I've worked in camera shops before, I know this dance. The employee took the camera in the back for the owner to look at and came back offering me $500 dollars because it was missing one plug for the sync port and the other plug on the second sunc port "moved around and wasn't suppose to" (its a plug, it's made to come off and on.) I had the camera and lens looked at by KEH a couple months ago and was offered $1500 from them, just to give you an idea of the camera's worth. Either the owner doesn't understand Leica camera's (which I doubt) or was totally low balling me. Super insulting. Will never spend a money here. Do your research when selling and buying gear and know it's value going in so you don't get scammed. read more

They couldn't give me idea of what they had in store so, I decided to try a local camera store. I'm extremely happy with my first experience at tuttles cameras. Terrible customer service Called on a Monday to reserve a lens rental. Was told to pick it up on Friday and drop off Monday with no specific hours mentioned. Came in at noon on Friday but was told the weekend lens rental price starts at 4pm. They wanted to charge 50% more because I was "early" even though I was never told to come at a specified time. I live far away and we all know gas is expensive these days so I politely asked the cashier if I could talk to the manager and was told the manager/owner wouldn't even come out from the back room to discuss it with me. Absolutely taking my business elsewhere. This is why brick & mortar stores don't survive, so business owners take notes. read more

This store does not keep up with their online inventory. Yet the manager says that all online sales must be paid for online rather than in person. so the lens I was ordering online - at the end of April 2023 evidently had been sold sometime in 2022. This I was told by the gentleman who claimed to be the inventory and online manager. Strangely this person at first to d me this lens was for an old film camera. when I read him the ad and told him the photo showing the front of the lens clearly said digital. i am old enough to remember the horror stories of the past regarding ordering camera equipment from New York camera stores. Perhaps this was really an oversight on the part of Tuttle Camera, but I would not advise anyone do online business with them. read more

I had to do a repair and so I went through the process and they shipped it out and a few weeks later when it was ready to pick up I turned it on to find it turned on then suddenly wasn't working. They reshipped it out and got it back to me in the following weeks! The process was longer than I expected but I didn't mind because it wasn't their fault at all and completely unexpected. They're not the ones doing the repair but I do want to say that I had to speak with many of the workers on the phone or in person and every single time I received excellent service! They felt really bad for the extended time it took and were sooo kind and accommodating but it really wasnt their fault so I appreciated them going the extra mile. Without fail every worker was extremely nice and let me know what was going on every step! They are super transparent and really know their stuff. As a camera newbie they were not intimidating and they genuinely gave me good information every time! Thanks so much I definitely recommend anyone to go here! Wonderful service. We had battery issues in the middle of the shoot and producers had me call Tuttle to see if they had the battery we needed. They did and went above and beyond to even put the battery on the charger so we could pick it up fully charged. Really really appreciate it. Producers decided to go a different way in the end, but that has nothing to do with Tuttle. I feel bad leaving Tuttle hanging but wanted to acknowledge how above and beyond their service was. I bought a camera (a pretty expensive one) 8 years ago from this store and thought I'd go back to try and buy a point a shoot digital today. For some reason, the staff did not want to help me out. I came in and a staff member tried to help someone else before me. The other customer had to tell them that I was there before him -- which happens of course. Totally normal. But when I started to ask him questions he seemed completely uninterested, doing other tasks while I was talking which made me think I that he wasn't listening. He seemed like I was annoying him by coming into the store today, which really confused me because I said I've purchased items from the other location and have take classes there. I told him that I potentially wanted to trade in my camera for something smaller and when it seemed like they didn't have that I was looking for, he didn't show me other options or anything really. It sucks because I really wanted to buy a camera today. I don't think I'll be coming back. I guess I'll order something on amazon, which is something I don't like doing. :( read more

Supporting small business, especially ones that are not common, is great but I'm not sure I'll ever stop by here again. Nothing was terrible but they don't seem to develop and scan film in house because they let me know on Friday, that their shipment had just been picked up so I'd have to wait until Wednesday for my film to be sent over email. I think the worst part is mainly the price though. For a 35mm roll of film it cost $20 to develop and scan. I have gone to better places and worse places that offer this service together for around $7-10 so I'm very confused why the price is so inflated here, especially since the quality isn't any better if anything it felt a little worse. read more
