THANK YOU DEAN!!!! A month ago, my Canon Gx7 mark III broke after 3 years, and I had no idea what was wrong with it. The touch screen stopped working and I couldn't focus on anything. Had an incredible experience with Dean's. I went in with issues with a film camera I had recently purchased (was supposed to be in mint condition). Dean gave me a ton of insight about the mechanics of the camera, how it operates, how to navigate contacting the camera shop I purchased it from, etc...and overall, I recognized the camera I purchased online was faulty. He didn't try to sell me on anything he had or even to fix the camera, though through my own pushing, I ended up leaving with a different, much better camera through what he had in the shop and am returning the faulty one. The camera I purchased from Dean is truly in excellent condition (though from 1980!), as he immediately spent a couple hours re-servicing it to make sure it was in mint condition. AND has a 3 month warranty, better than you can find anywhere else. Truly a local shop that's been here for decades. I got gifted a Nikon One Touch for Christmas and was really excited to use it but come to find out that it wasn't working properly. When I TELL YOU DEAN IS AMAZING... I mean it! I have a Sony ZV 1 and I use it for content creation. Well, one day my beautiful baby boy decided to be interested in my camera tripod and PUSH the tripod. Well, my camera was connected and long story short, my entire lenses barrel was BENT! Girl! I cried! The lense wasn't fully apply to extend due to how it was bent! I knew it was going to be a pain to find someone to fix it! I called multiple places and one place I called directed me to Dean! I did find a different place in Culver City who told me I would have to ship out my camera and pay for the repair... the repair itself was $380 (maybe)! Thankfully I didn't lose hope and found Dean! Dean has my camera fixed within a day! Yes! A freakin DAY! And the repair was significantly less than what I was quoted at this other place! I'm so thankful Dean was able to fix my camera I truly didn't have the extra money to fix my camera but I'm extremely satisfied! It cost me $250 in total to fix! Dean only accepts cash as well! Dean does require a $20 deposit to take a look at the camera and see if he's able to even fix it! The $20 goes towards your ending total. read more

Dean is a blessing. I purchased a Canon A1 two years ago, which was my first film camera. Fortunately it was in incredible condition. After months of use, however, my Canon ended up having the infamous "shutter squeak" that all Canon A1 or AE-1's run into at some point. It's not just a quirk as the squeak indicates slower shutter speed performance and is just overall nasty to hear. I called up Dean about the squeak and he said to bring it in - he'd put it on a shutter test machine and see how bad it's gotten. Fortunately it wasn't too bad, but obviously I want it fixed - and Dean over delivered. The "YouTube" solution is to lubricate a specific spot of the camera by putting oil into a syringe. Dean didn't do that - he took apart the entire camera to PROPERLY fix the issue. This is what you're paying him for - decades of experience. I asked what else we could do to my camera since I was already there. He suggested installing new light seals, which is a preventive measure since I dont have light leak issues. He didn't use foam, which is something typical repair shops do - he used felt, which is basically a permanent fix because it doesn't deteriorate. Total repair fee: $300 with 3 month warranty guarantee. Oh, and he took literally 2 days to get it done. TWO. DAYS. That's quick as hell. Highly recommend. My only complaint is that he isn't open on Saturday or Sunday, which didn't work with my schedule since I have a typical 9-5 job and cannot visit the shop during weekdays. Instead I had to ask my friend to drop my camera off for me. However he said you can ship to his shop as a solution, just call first. read more

Aside from this, he is also an incredibly kind and genuine man. I've come to him twice now (once with a Canon 24-70 F2.8 Lens, once with a set of vintage binoculars). Dean is a quirky guy with an insane amount of knowledge. For me, he was able to quickly identify and price out a repair for my Canon AE-1 Film Camera. The repair took about 2 weeks and cost me $200 in cash. That being said, the camera came back cleaned, refreshed, repaired, lubed, and all the foam within the camera (which this camera body tends to have light leak). A few weeks ago I took my camera out to the Arizona desert and so much fine dust collected in my lens. I found Dean's Camera Repair after a quick Yelp search and I'm so happy that I did. Dean owns a small and chaotic hole-in-the-wall shop (though he knows where everything is at, so chill). When I showed him my camera, he quickly responded with how he'd take care of it. Not only was he able to conduct a quick assessment and provide pricing, but he also did a fabulous job. My camera looks brand new. Dean was thorough and cleaned the inside of my lens ($150) + the camera sensor and body ($105). All of those dust particles are gone! Trust me when I say that he was excellent and quick! After developing my last roll of film from my Minolta X-700, I noticed that a lot of my shots were half image, half black. My buddy recommended I visit Dean's and have him check out the shutter because it wasn't opening all the way, leaving half of the film unexposed. I walked in and Dean stopped in the middle of what he was working on to come help me out! He tested out the camera a bit and informed me that my shutter was jammed up and he needed to open up the camera a bit before giving me a price. I got a call the next day where he told me exactly what he was going to do and how much it would cost. I gave him the OK to proceed. A week later, I get a call that it's ready to be picked up! When I walked in, he stopped in the middle of what he was doing to assist me (I appreciate his one-man business where he handles all aspects of the work, from customer interaction to repairs)! Not only did he fix my camera, but he also cleaned up some debris that was floating around inside the viewfinder and switched out a worn out part for free so that the camera would advance the roll better! He and I tested the camera together and everything looks good and feels a lot better! It'll be great to get shooting on it again! I can see why my buddy recommended him! He's a friendly guy, knows what needs to be done, prices fairly, and he's been doing it for years! I called Dean to ask about camera repair. He is THE MAN for rangefinders and GLEEFULLY REFUSES to service anything else. I brought in my Leica Miiia which he accepted to cla and completely retune the timing mechanism (for the thing hadn't been operated for 60+ years) and he did not accept my Praktica SLR which I think needed the same type of service but maybe the mirror completely changes the tuning process to the point that he is unable to do it. Not sure. Anyways, wish me luck with my newly cut and inserted roll of portra! Also, be kind. Dean doesnt like people who are snarky and might just refuse you service.
