First, Google listed the opening time as 10 a.m., but the store did not open until 11. We had driven from Baltimore to get ahead of bad weather, tried calling multiple times, and found the voicemail full. There's no website to confirm hours, so we were left guessing whether to wait. Once inside, we spent nearly two hours selecting eight fabrics for multiple projects. Many fabrics were not priced, and the single employee cutting fabric had to repeatedly walk to the front of the store to ask the owner for pricing or answers to basic questions, which made the process extremely slow. The final issue was a large-print fabric that had deep slashes running several yards into the roll, along with visible black marks. I asked that the damaged portion be cut off or that cutting begin from the other end of the roll. The owner refused and told me that if I didn't like it, I didn't have to buy it, stating multiple times that they are a "for profit store." I have over 50 years of experience buying fabric and have never been expected to pay for clearly damaged yardage. We ultimately walked out without purchasing anything, leaving eight rolls at the cutting table--well over $1,000 in sales lost. It's disappointing to see how much this store has changed. It was once staffed by knowledgeable, helpful people who wanted to assist customers. I won't be returning.

When the pillows came in, I picked them up at the store and placed them in the 2 rooms. It was immediately apparent that the fabric selected did not match my existing decor. I reached out to the store and the designer who helped me had already moved on so I explained the situation to the store manager who made an appointment to come to my home and assess the situation. Upon seeing the pillows in the rooms she agreed that the fabric color was wrong and the sizing of the pillows for the chairs was too large. She went back to the store and ordered additional samples for me to consider. Once I received them and tried them out the room it was clear to me that those samples wouldn't work either. I emailed the manager and explained that the new samples weren't going to work asking if anything else could be done to help me. I never heard back from her. I sent a follow up email and never heard back from her at all. I understand that the pillows were custom made for me and that more than likely I wouldn't be able to return them, but I was making my decision based on their designer's recommendation which was clearly wrong. It really bothered me that I never heard back from the store manager, so I took it one step further and sent an email to the customer service department. It has been over a month and I have yet to hear anything from them. I have been a customer of Calico for over 18 years and this is how it ends. I would be very careful if you are considering using this company. While that would not have been my opinion previously things have definitely changed and the talent of the designers and the customer service has decreased significantly.

Every time I have shopped in the past, I've been told that nothing in the remnant box is over $4.99 a yard. But, the woman insisted that it was still $8.99 a yard and she didn't know how that piece got in the remnant box. OK... Shady AF...No sale! Had she done the right thing, she would've made a very large sale because I needed fabric for multiple projects. Instead, I went to the Fabric Basement in Alexandria and was treated very fairly and got some quality fabrics. I do miss the previous owner, rest in peace, because he was a very honorable and my family frequented this store for about 40 years with no issues.
