Amazing choice for breakfast. Even better for lunch. Choice upon choice of sandwiches to choose from. AND to top it off they are baristas as well. I enjoyed the PB crunch wrap with banana added in, and an iced chai tea with a shot of espresso. Highly recommend if you visit the area. read more

We got stuck in Laramie with a flat tire and spent the afternoon at University of Wyoming. Had the Jingleding and it was great!

Super fun little coffee and sandwich shop and BONUS: it's dog friendly!! (Outside only I think..?) ... But still! We stopped by once lay year and again this ear after an annual road trip, camping in the Laramie and Bighorn Ranges and it is a welcome, chill spot to relax and refuel after lots of hiking. It's cozy inside but we've only sat outside among the wild flowers on their patio! Large sandwich menu with really fun combos and names. Try the 'Cowabunga!' Or the 'Gallinipper' or the 'Bombastic!' Lots of options for a variety of tastes and they seem pretty happy to modify something if you need to. They've also got some serious looking breakfasts and huge homemade cinnamon buns. We'll for sure be back again if coming through Laramie. read more

We were staying nearby at a B&B, this was a very welcome discovery. We ate lunch here 2 days in a row, great menu with yummy veg options. The dessert bars are really good too. Affordable. I had two large lattes. Came through town to get my car serviced in Laramie. It turns out I wanted to go to GROUNDS from the car dealership and the guy been dropped off from dealership convinced me to go to Turtle Rock Cafe. He said he got a triple latte every morning and worked across the street from the cafe (so I'm guessing he worked at the University of Wyoming). Thank you whoever you are (silver/gray hair) that we shared shuttle from McCarty Dealership to 9th Street. Definitely a great choice! He gave me one of his frequent drinker's cards which gave me a free drink and that got me to go there. (Talk about pay it forward!). I was very happy. I had a ham, cheese, mustard focaccia hot sandwitch (named Dumbledore) All of them are named after Harry Potter book/movie characters and it was excellent. The first latte was a caramel vanilla and 2nd one was normal. The first folks that helped me were very personable...2nd one neutral. The place has a great college feel to it. Cool place to find in Laramie. They also have wireless internet. Have to ask in front for the password. I was there during winter break, so I guess it was a bit quieter than normal..still loved the atmosphere for the most part. Saw lots of gelato and looked good but I'm trying to lay off the sweets for now. read more

Turtle Rock is a quaint cafe here in town that I occasional drop by for a cup of coffee. T-Rock's proximity to campus (it is literally right across the street from the western border of UW) is perhaps the best thing going for it. The atmosphere is nice, cheery, and clean in the cafe, and the outdoor seating area is a great spot to relax on a cool summer day. A special point should be made about the staff, they have always been very friendly to order from and seem to always be in good spirits. There are a couple of issues with this place that are worth bringing up. First, the regular drip coffee tastes fine, but it is noticeably weak. I am also not a fan of the self-serve process for getting the coffee, and it is not because I need to be waited on, but really has to do with the fact that coffee carafes are always empty; then I have to wait to exchange them with the barista, and it is just a little too much work for a cup of coffee. Second, often times the cafe is overly crowded (especially during the regular school semesters), and this makes it a lot less comfortable; I would not recommend T-Rock as a destination to have a discrete conversation with someone. The process for ordering is also hindered by a cramped entry area and the line does not always move quickly or efficiently. This next point about the cafe is slightly self-indulgent, and it has to do with the food. I am vegan and T-Rock's menu does not have any serious options for me. They do have a few vegetarian sandwiches, but I have never tried them, so I cannot vouch for any of them. A side point to note here is that out of the four salads their menu lists, only one is vegetarian; I have always thought it is weird how Americans justify eating salads by dumping meat all over them. I suppose the one vegetarian salad might be able to be made vegan by removing the feta cheese, as well as the cheesy bread that all of their salads are served with. I find it kind of amusing, because the vibe of this place makes it seem like it should be a little bit more vegan friendly, but that is just my perception. Once again, these are my particular points of concern and may not matter to most of their clientele. read more

To say that I am familiar with Turtle Rock would be a gross understatement. I practically lived there for my two stints in Laradise ('08-'09, '12-'13), and I believe I put the owner's children through college. This is a great place for morning coffee, for lunch, for an afternoon coffee or snack, and for dinner. Turtle Rock turns into a full-on restaurant Wednesday nights throughout the year, but you have to make a reservation early because seating is limited and the food is delicious. During the school year, the place can fill up quickly. So be prepared to wait for a table or take your lunch / coffee outside if the weather's nice enough. Speaking of which, among my most favorite lunch sandwiches I should include, and you should try, the BLTC, the Dumbledore, or the MugWump (I believe it was called). All of the sandwiches are fantastic. Not into sandwiches, then give a salad a try. Whatever you order, I'm sure you'll find it to be really quite delightful. The customer service is top-notch and Turtle Rockers, if you're a local and in there as often as I was, will get to know your name and your usual drink of choice. Mine was a 20oz. Americano, and sometimes I didn't even need to ask for it. They would just have it ready for me when I hit the front of the line. Enjoy yourself while you're there! I've had mixed experiences at Turtle Rock. Inside is really cute, and outdoor patio is great, when the weather cooperates. One thing I have noticed, every time I've been there, is the number of flies buzzing around. Eeeee. Stopped in for a coffee occasionally, no problems there, if you stay and drink in house you get one free refill- no complaints from me! Sandwiches are also good at TR, though I think overpriced. Served with a pickle and side of tortilla chips for about $7 seems a little steep to me. I've also had the chicken tortilla soup, which is really good- comes with a side of cheesy "focaccia" (its not really) and tortilla strips, I think I would rather have a plain roll or something instead. I took some visiting friends to TR for breakfast and a coffee before seeing them off- we had breakfast burritos- they were absolutely horrible! Small, filled with potato (?) cheese (?), one of my friends asked for sausage in theirs, they got none. I'm pretty sure they were microwaved too. Not filling and not good. Of course I'll be returning- its the only coffee place just off of campus. Not sure if I'll be ordering breakfast any time soon. read more

This place is excellent! I am a chai fan and their chai is really good! Also the gelato is must have. Such unique flavors! I tried the chipotle dark chocolate and it is actually spicy! Cute little patio outside is lovely in the summer. We will be back! read more

Out of the few local coffee shops I've been to in Laramie, Turtle Rock is the best. I love the vibes (summery, hippy-esque), I love the chai, and I love the prices. Yet have sandwiches that I've been wanting to try and they have gelato that looks delicious, but not the typical warm comforting escape from the winter that I look for in a coffee shop. This is a great place to sit down with a drink and a friend and read a book for a while or attempt to do some work. Would highly recommend to anybody. read more

I love that Turtle Rock is right across from campus and is more or less on my walking route. I just wish that they opened at 6 instead of 7. We're early risers, and finding a good latte in town at that hour is difficult. I always enjoy the food when I get a chance to go, but find that I rarely leave campus to eat during the week. So, it's a treat when I get to bring visitors to enjoy the soups and sandwiches/wraps. I agree with other reviewers that the prices are a bit much on the food. That said, I've yet to be disappointed by a meal (other than the soup I want being sold out -- which speaks volumes about the quality). The spacing is a bit cramped, but the patio is perfect for a lovely summer/fall day. If you're looking for a recommendation, the Dumbledore is one of my favorites, and the baristas are fantastic. read more

If you're a student or faculty at the University then I highly suggest getting your coffee and tea from here! The atmosphere is great and for being such a small venue there is lots of seating. Stopped off at Turtle Rock on our way through Laramie from Denver. My roommate & I are BIG coffee addicts, so we checked out some Yelp reviews & made our way here. Super cool set up--looks like this was once an old house--and when you walk in there are SO many menu items to choose from. Sandwiches, breakfast burritos, pastries, and every drink you could want. We got an almond milk latte, dirty chai, and a cinnamon roll. The coffee was good quality, the pastries are homemade, and the girls working this morning were incredibly friendly & cheerful. All in all, if you're in the area, this place is definitely worth visiting! read more

I love this place. I'm a weekly customer. It's across from the university so it's always lively with students, professors and families. The food is great, they make real iced tea, and I'm rarely disappointed. however, the reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the parking. I get that parking near a university will always be a problem, especially with nearby streets being unavailable to those without a parking permit. I'm not really complaining about that. The problem is the cafe's parking lot. I've been told that it hold 6 parking spots. Three on one side and three on the other. However, on any given day I will find that two cars on one side are parked so haphazardly that the 3rd spot is too narrow to get into. Today there were only 4 cars in the lot and no space for a 5th and 6th. The problem is that there are no painted lines delineating where the spots are. Even worse, there are a couple of parking blocks on each side that easily misguide parkers. I've been going here for 4 years and as far as I know there have never been any painted lines. I love Turtle Rock! It's cozy and warm...a really great environment for studying. The coffee is always really good. I recommend the Wobblegong sandwich - it's turkey, pesto and cheese. My only complaint is the prices are a tad high and it's a little overly crowded at times, but that can't really be helped. read more

Passing thru on way to Colorado. First impression College Eatery. That's ok. Kinda funky setup, pretty standard wild child coffee and sandwiches. Very limited seating. Ordered sand which..... they were out of Chabata bread, went with plain wheat. Wife ordered Kale salad..... out of Kale..... really???? They explained that's pretty common on Sunday. Hello!!! If it's common fix the problem. Sister in law ordered vanilla ice cream...... again out of it! Now 0-3 on first choices. We finally worked thru items they had to get our lunch. What we got was pretty good. So I guess come here during the week.... avoid on weekends unless you like going thru list of out of stock menu items. Should be a solid 4 stars. Here's another example of someone running a business and not paying attention. Hope they read reviews and work out issues on the weekend. I really like this place. It is a cute and small coffee shop, and they have a nice patio area to sit. Plus, you can bring your dog. They have a big menu of sandwiches with some vegetarian options. They also have a small selection of baked goods. I like the sandwiches, they give you tortilla chips and a pickle too. The only bad thing is parking. Their parking lot is tiny, so if you go at lunch time you won't find a parking space. And all the parking on the streets nearby requires a permit since it is across from campus. So I only go at off times. If you are already at campus or somewhere close I would walk. read more

My favorite place in town to grab coffee and breakfast. Best cinnamon rolls in town (no part of it is hard ... nothing but gooey goodness all the way through!) This is also a dog-friendly place, and my dog and I enjoy just about every Sunday morning on the patio. There are usually free treats for dogs, as well as a water dish. That's something that is rare to find in most places. The ambiance is great ... the location is great ... the service is great ... and, of course, the coffee is EXCELLENT! read more
