Got a combo of chicken kabob and shami kabob along with a side of their borani banjan/eggplant dish. The eggplant was honestly one of my favorite things- it's a must get in my opinion. Homey dish with incredible flavors! Their naan is fresh and pairs well with it. The chicken was good, but I've had better honestly. The shami was a little disappointing as I expected more flavor and it was slightly dry, but good. Their rice was so tasty and I loved the sweetness coming from the carrots an raisins. Of course, the sheeryakh was great- quite a big portion for one person, but I loved the texture. It tastes very similar to the Indian/South Asian/Pakistani ice cream, "Kulfi." CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK: Service needs improvement. The whole time I was there I had to keep looking for waiters to make eye contact with to ask for menu, water, paying, etc. It took about 10 min or more for me to have to call a busy waiter over just to look at the menu- no one came over on their own. Things just took time for a Saturday night- plus they were hosting an event on top of this. Needless to say, I've never had service like this, but the vibe and food made me be not as harsh. Despite the service, this place is a must try for authentic Afghan cuisine. Can't wait to try more of their menu (and the borani banjan again) in the future!

This past weekend, I had one of those meals that lingers with you long after the last bite--halwa,…read morepuri, Punjabi murg chole, all coming together in a way that felt both familiar and completely new at Charcoal Chicken. The puri arrived hot and perfectly puffed--golden, light, and crunchy on the outside, yet soft enough to soak up every bit of flavor. Then came the Punjabi murg chole, and that's where the magic really happened. The chicken was tender and deeply seasoned, not overpowering, but rich with warmth and spice. Paired with the chickpeas, it created a hearty, comforting balance--earthy, savory, and incredibly satisfying. We all know halwa puri with chole is a classic. It's nostalgic, it's comforting, it's expected. But adding Punjabi-style chicken into the mix? That took the entire experience to another level. The chicken didn't compete with the chole--it elevated it. Every bite with puri felt intentional, layered, and indulgent. This wasn't just breakfast or brunch--it was a vibe. A bold twist on tradition that felt rooted yet exciting. If halwa puri is comfort food, then halwa puri with Punjabi murg chole is comfort food that decided to show up dressed sharp and confident. A combination I didn't know I needed--but now won't forget.

Although good, I really love saucy rice so I might have to try the Butter chicken independently. I'm also going to try a more standard briyani like the goat one. Overall, I will definitely give this spot another try. We ordered a to go meal. It took around 10-15 mins to prepare. A very casual looking spot.

I was really craving baba ganoush but unfortunately they didn't have any eggplant based dip. We ordered the red pepper dip and the meat shindig. Red pepper dip - came with warm pita and was pretty good. A mix of savory and sweet from the pomegranate. Shindig - came with trumpet mushrooms, steak, lamb-beef kubideh and chicken. The proteins were all cooked well but unfortunately under flavored making the use of the sauces a necessity. I also wish there was more pita. The rice, although a beautiful vibrant value, lacked the aroma and flavor of rice from the Mediterranean. This dish was not a good value for what it contained. Further, the inside of the restaurant is suffering from the effects of wear and tear. Both bathrooms were out of order. This lack of care is incongruous with the intended vibe of the restaurant. I don't think I will be making a return visit.

These included a hummus, chicken swarm sliders, brussel sprouts, and falafel. The falafel was my favorite. We each also got a mango margharita, and we both really enjoyed our drinks. The atmosphere and service left a little to be desired, as the our table was falling apart and our waitress seemed to be a little overwhelmed.

We used Maman Joon in McLean, VA for catering for our wedding, and I honestly cannot say enough…read morepositive things about our experience. We ordered Joojeh Kabob, Koobideh, and Lamb Shank. There are several reasons why I would choose this restaurant again for my wedding: 1. Food quality was amazing. Both our Iranian and American guests raved about the food, saying it was the best food they have had at a wedding. The meat was tender and juicy and the rice was delicious without being oily, which is very hard to do. Our guests went for seconds and thirds and majority of the food was finished even though we ordered extra! Even my mom, who is a very harsh judge of Persian food, loved it. 2. Service was excellent. Wedding planning is a really stressful process, so choosing a caterer is really important. Coordination with Mr. Sanaei was very smooth. He gave us his personal phone number and texted us everything we needed within hours (including COI and business license). The business is very organized. The delivery was on-time, and all the food arrived well-packed. 3. Most importantly, the staff at the actual restaurant is just really kind. I initially just went for a meal and after being treated with such kindness, I decided to use them for catering. Honestly, I get a feeling that the staff are more like my cousins. The ability to run an efficient and organized business, while still giving us a homy/comforting feeling is what makes this Maman Joon so special! 4. Price is great! I got a quote from several Persian restaurants in the DMV area (and even other Maman Joon branches) and this was lower for the exact same meals. Overall, I highly recommend Maman Joon at McLean as both a restaurant and catering!

The cashier was super nice as well and gave me some baklava on the house! I called in my order and it was ready within 10 minutes. Super convenient, tasty and worth the price. I didn't even get a chance to take a before picture because my family started devouring it straight away. The meat was very tender and I loved their hummus. It was super smooth and garlicky. Everything was cooked to perfection and I will definitely be coming back!
