Ok. We've just left it after two nights and will be back in 7 days time.
We brought along two friends who hadn't been here before and they were very pleased with their stay.
It's our third time staying here in about 4 years but as wu flu interrupted we would have otherwise returned more often.
The front of house staff are five star. They can't do enough to help and this has been our consistent experience over years. One star reviews here are not defensible.
The rooms are a great five star size but we found ours a bit chilly for most of the day: reception control the air conditioning probably due to energy price hikes. A balance needs to be struck here for guest comfort so 3 stars here.
Our room had a mini bar/fridge, a fold out table, a 1980's tv that we didn't turn on and a comfy bed. The bidet is a wonderful addition to comfort and more places should provide them.
I have no truck with folks who complain about worn out, tired and faded hotels, maybe because I am too, but here it's not a big deal and it adds to the charm of the place. If ya want glitzy, plastic and flat pack I'm sure there's lots of places for you - I'll take elegance and charm any day.
Now to the haphazard - no cooked food is offered in the evenings and the reception bar is not open consistently - I'm sure there's a business reason for it but it's not a deal breaker for us we just make other arrangements that suit us.
Breakfast for us was 15 euro each so at this price it's time to offer better quality particularly coffee which is alright but not great and fruit juices which aren't 100% juice. This part has been consistently poor over our 4 years experience and 2 star. It's easily sorted out mind if the management decide to act.
There was one other real annoyance: I asked for 2 fried eggs at breakfast as the pre cooked scrambled looked unappetising to be told first they didn't do them then told I may have to pay extra. I got the eggs after all but this should not have happened instead when a guest asks for fried eggs at breakfast it's yes how would you like them cooked?
I'll put it down to a kitchen misunderstanding but if the chef/cook really can't be bothered then perhaps it's time they looked elsewhere for work. It's the hospitality sector not the hostility sector.
Still a 5 star against price paid, the great front facing staff, the comfort level and the sheer charm of the place. read more
