We typically avoid leaving negative reviews, as we understand that mistakes can happen, sometimes with small business owners. However, our experience with Tukia's services leaves us no choice. After receiving bids from three contractors, we chose Tukia because of his initial responsiveness during the bidding process, even though his quote was similar to others. What was intended to be a 6-week project turned into a 6-month ordeal. Demolition began on April 17, 2024, with the expectation that our backyard renovation would be completed before summer. Instead, it remained an active construction site throughout the entire season. While some delays were due to backordered porcelain pavers, the real issue was poor planning and execution of the remaining two weeks of work. Despite receiving a substantial payment upfront, Tukia failed to order materials on time, causing unnecessary delays that stretched the project into September. Communication was another major issue. Tukia repeatedly set new deadlines, only to miss them, and at times stopped responding to our messages for weeks, leaving us uncertain about whether he would even finish the project. We were forced to contact handymen to get quotes for completing the job and cleaning up the site. When the work eventually resumed, the quality was below acceptable standards. Grading issues with the pavers led to waterlogging, and polymeric sand began washing away almost immediately. The backyard gate that his team poorly installed drags on the ground and takes much effort to operate. Despite informing him of these issues on September 16, Tukia didn't respond and didn't inspect the problems, leaving us to cover the repair costs. We remain concerned that more issues may arise with the next rainfall. I have screenshots of our conversation in which he ghosted us for weeks, the payments that we made ahead on the schedule which literally locked our work with him and his blunt responses to any concerns that we raised to him. I will be willing to share them to those who are remotely considering hiring him for their project. In the end, Tukia has proven unfit to handle medium to large-scale projects. ​His lack of professionalism, poor communication, and subpar quality make it impossible for us to recommend him to anyone​. This contractor is undoubtedly one of the most unorganized and unmanaged professionals I have ever encountered. What was supposed to be a 5-week landscaping project stretched out to over 4 months, and in the end, the contractor abandoned it, leaving it unfinished. He frequently disappeared for days and only returned when we pressured him to come back. Despite paying 80% of the project cost upfront, he continually delayed the work and accused us of not wanting to pay more, even though we had already made a substantial payment. He also misguided us during the fence installation, pushing us to pay for something unnecessary. Safety was a major concern throughout the project. The contractor exposed iron bars, creating a serious hazard for our 4-year-old. Even after we informed him of the risk, he showed no concern for our child's safety. The contractor demonstrated a complete lack of empathy for our situation, knowing we had a newborn baby at home. When we tried to address our concerns, he resorted to emotional manipulation, often crying to avoid responsibility rather than fixing the issues. To make matters worse, the site was left in a mess, with cigarette butts and trash scattered throughout the front and backyard, and there were several mistakes, especially with the paver installation. It's also worth mentioning that many of the positive reviews for this contractor seem fake, based on our drastically different experiences. I strongly advise against hiring him. We are very pleased with the results and overall experience with Tukia Landscaping. We contacted 6 other contractors and selected Tukia for the polite and straightforward quote without any BS or attempts to upsell us once we described our basic concrete requirements. Job was completed for exactly the quoted price plus Tevita threw in some additional pattern work on the driveway and brickwork on the porch. Worked with us to design a drainage piping system to our specifications. Tevita estimated 2 weeks but completed the actual physical work in 1 week. They started right away and were done with the pour (~2000 square ft) within about a week. The only idle time was while waiting for materials. Workers were present well into the late afternoon and evening and seemed to be a well coordinated crew. Tevitia was readily available onsite and a pleasure to work with.
