After reading positive reviews a while back I finally made it down to Tuckerbox. They did a nice job renovating the Como Va space into a great looking cafe space. Good seating and cute chalk boards offer a space for all the cartoon studies folks in downtown WRJ to doodle. Nice touches all around. I had a chai and falafel for lunch. They did a soy milk substitutes on the latte for free which was cool, as compared to 60 cents at a Starbucks. The tea and my meal came out very quickly and the falefel was delicious. The sammich consisted of 4 good size chickpea fritters along with lettuce and big red tomato slices. Instead of the usual tahini and yogurt sauce you'd expect they had a nice garlicky tasting sauce which reminded me a bunch of the dipping sauce Tip Top has with their bread/rolls. All of this wrapped in a nice warm pita made for a good lunch. I am especially happy since Murphy's has removed the "Green Mountain Wrap" from the menu limiting UV falafels to the one available at Lous which is just so-so. So a big Yay! to Tuckerbox for being a new good new UV lunch spot. read more

I had previously been to this restaurant and had a less than desirable experience but I Recently decided to give it another chance, and I am extremely glad I did. First of all their food is by far the best in the upper Valley area. The quality of the The ingredients are very high-quality. The flavor is outstanding, And the portions are very generous. I really love the ambience of this restaurant. Although my first experience was less than desirable due to a waiter, this experience was absolutely amazing because of the waitstaff and owner. This waiter,Christian, was attentive and knowledgeable. The owner was extremely welcoming and friendly and came over and went through the entire menu with us. I can't say enough great things about their waitstaff and owner after my second experience. I really want to thank "The Tucker Box" for such a memorable night with my family and partner. I have to say again that was the best lamb I have ever tasted!! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling to Vermont, and will most definitely be back for more of that lamb and other awesome dishes! read more

Although the food is excellent I have encountered "service with a 'tude" 2 of the 3 times I've gone in. The "hostess" is a young woman who can't seem to be bothered, doesn't care to look people in the eye, nor accomodate requests, and seems to not understand what it means to be a hostess. I think she's there just to hang out. It created such an unpleasant experience the first time when I asked to not be seated near a non-working door sandwiched between several other customers when there were plenty of available tables that I left. I asked simply, "could I sit someplace else that isn't so close to the door?" She stared at me and said, "no one uses this door." I said that's fine but I would prefer somewhere else. That request was met with a sigh and a sense that I'd requested the moon and stars. I promptly left. The second time I had made a reservation. When I arrived I encountered the same hostess again. I told this same young woman my name and that I'd made a reservation. She barely spoke 2 words of acknowledgment, didn't look up my reservation, and took me to the nearest available table. I asked her if she was having a bad day or something. She looked confused and made a face as though she'd swallowed something unpleasant. "Perhaps I could sit at the high top table I reserved?" She dutifully and silently led me to a high top. Again good food but if the customers are an annoyance get a different job. This young lady also had to be told by the server Michelle to please wait before having a meal break until more help arrived. The server who was there that day is named Michelle and she is excellent. It's a shame that, like this restaurant, she's saddled with having to babysit for this girl who doesn't seem to have a clue and who has twice made going to this restaurant a misery. read more

Do NOT go here if you want good greek food. No flavor - we just had awesome greek food in Boston 2 days ago to be super comparison driven and this place sucks. We got babaganouish, shawarma chicken, lavash bread, falafel. Not one thing had any flavor. Totally sucked and more expensive then it should have been. Super disappointed. read more

Tried to go back for one of their super-good BLTs (really the best I've ever eaten) and gave up - the place was filled, once again, with people working on tier laptops nursing their coffees. Also, it really is unpleasant to have to share a large table with strangers why can't they put in a few smaller tables and remove the goliath? I will lurk until there's space and get a BLT eventually. read more

Closes from 4-5 to set up for dinner. Couldn't simply comment so I put 3 (average) stars. Haven't yet tried the food here.

Step inside the small, hip café called the Tuckerbox in White River Junction and you instantly feel like a local. You can sip espresso while catching up on the daily news in softly worn leather chairs, show off your artistic talents on the blank chalkboards, or fill-up on food from their imaginative menu. It's the kind of spot that the locals revel in and where visitors can easily forget that they are in a small town in southern Vermont. The Tuckerbox, which has been open for two years, sits perfectly positioned between north and south Main Streets in downtown White River Junction. The large picture windows provide sunny views of people passing by, a small park with colorful gardens and the Amtrak train station for which White River is well-known. Owner Eric Hartling says his passion for coffee and requests from the community for another venue to grab their daily cup of Joe is why he opened the Tuckerbox. "Adding a light breakfast and lunch menu expands what I can offer my customers," said Hartling. Many of the items on the menu incorporate local food from a handful of nearby farms. On most days, the Daily Scramble ($5.95) consists of seasonal vegetables such as herbs, heirloom tomatoes, onions, peppers; just about whatever Hartling can get his hands on. The coffee and tea selections are Fair Trade, organic and from Vermont companies. Hartling says the most popular item on the breakfast food menu is the Egg "Samich" ($5.95) with a fried egg, Tasso ham (or without), cracked pepper, and sharp cheddar cheese between two sliced of Texas-style toast made by a local baker. Coffees and teas range from $1.68 for a small cup of their regular blend to $3.25 for a large latte. But it's not the "Samich" on the menu that usually gets Tuckerbox customers talking. It's the Peanut Butter and Bacon sandwich ($4.95) with smokey bacon, smooth peanut butter all grilled to what they describe as "wicked yumminess." I stopped in to try out the Tuckerbox on a cool but bright Tuesday morning in early September. While I enjoyed watching the town come to life, local residents streamed into the café, ordering lattes, cappuccinos, muffins or scones--mostly to go. There were a handful of people hanging out at the large community tables reading the papers and utilizing the café's free wireless internet. I would suspect that the lunch crowd is similar; a few customers sitting and taking a moment to relax mixed with the rush of workers from nearby businesses and students from the Center for Cartoon Studies down the street. The lunch menu has an appealing mix of Soup and Salad ($7.95) to the Falafel sandwich ($6.95). For breakfast, I ordered the Daily Scramble, a generous serving of scrambled eggs mixed with chili spices, garlic, sautéed onions and bell peppers, topped with melted cheddar cheese. The thick toast on the side was lightly buttered and perfectly grilled. My caramel flavored latte was a well-balanced combination of sweet and bold flavors proving that the Barista knows what she is doing. At first bite of the Scramble, I became a believer that a meal at the Tuckerbox is the ideal way to start your day. The last few bites hit me with a surprising punch of garlic flavor, leaving me wondering why the garlic was folded into only a small section of the scramble. I wish that the entire entrée was balanced with the sweet, pungent flavor of garlic, but that is a minor critique for what was overall a delicious meal in a pleasant setting. The Tuckerbox is open six days a week, Monday through Saturday. Hours vary, so best to check their web site for updates or call ahead to see if they are indeed open. You can see the full menu and learn more about the café at www.Tuckerboxvermont.com. read more

This was a really nice coffee shop with okay food and nice tables where you could work. Now, they've moved next door and started table service. It doesn't look like the menu's changed but the food is pretty bad for a sit down restaurant and not really all that Turkish (for example, a Chicken Döner kebab we ordered came on Texas toast, not pita). The waitstaff also seemed overwhelmed and our waiter was carrying an iPad with him that seemed to get in the way a lot. I liked the atmosphere of this place when it was a coffee shop but I doubt I will be back again. read more

Good food overall, everything made fresh! Service can be a little overwhelmed on days when they're the only restaurant open, but definitely a wortwhile stop if you feel like homemade Turkish cuisine. read more

Warm friendly and attentive service. I've always loved this place for coffee. It's a great place to meet and chat or to sit quietly and read or get work done on my laptop. Plus their food is delicious - I tend to defer to their daily scramble vs their Turkish type breakfast offerings though all is fresh and well prepared. read more

Fresh everything from the hummus to the kebabs to the Turkish Coffee. Great service and even greater meal.

I strongly recommend this place. The food was amazing, and great service too! We were just passing through town and saw another review on yelp. You won't be disappointed. read more

Amazing. Friendly and attentive staff. Delicious and flavorful food. Falafel. Hummus. Turkish olives. Swordfish kabob. Chicken adama. Rice pudding. And nice fiddle head IPA. A beautiful place to chill as well. read more

I grew up in White River. Now I live in Cambridge, home of many lovely coffee shops, and the Tuckerbox Cafe is still one of my favorite places anywhere. I try my best to visit every time that I'm back home - this is everything a coffee shop should be (minus the limited hours...). I love the vibe, the huge windows for people watching, the comfortable chairs. The coffee is good enough, if not amazing (I like the drip coffee, but the espresso's a little...something...). But this is WRJ, so a place like this is extraordinary. read more

Ok for lunch. Certainly not worth the drive from St. Albans. Pleasant and good service. Probably the best option in White River.

This wasn't the best experience. It was an experience that was at best alright driven by less than mediocre food and a lackluster customer service. Sitting at the bar, one can overhear the snarky comments of the colorless supervisor to his force of trainees as the kitchen lines plates in front of customers ready to be run to other customers in a very confusing manner. When the food finally comes is when true disappointment sets in. Donër is the Turkish version of shawarma/gyro depending on the meat. We had the chicken and lamb/beef. Both lacking in natural vivacity and tact. Very dry meat. Very VERY dry meat. Shawarma and gyro (or donër) is almost like a sausage slow roasted on a spit and shaved as it cooks. It is mixed with spices and natural fats that cook into a moist, soft, hearty experience. This was not the case here, it was the opposite. read more

We shared the falafel sandwich and small mezze platter for lunch. The falafel sandwich was on Texas toast which I thought was slightly weird, but it was buttery and delicious. The falafel was made in a patty which was perfect for the sandwich. The only detractor was the sandwich was a little dry, but we used some of the delicious sauce from the mezze platter to rectify that. It wasn't advertised, but they MADE the pita for the mezze platter which was amazing. The 4 sides were really good, and the grape leaves were exceptional. I wish there was slightly more if each of the dips to go with the pita, but the quality and flavor of everything was excellent. read more

My standards on Turkish food are pretty high as I come from the Mediterranean region myself. I was quite hesitant to try this restaurant as it is a small family business in the middle of nowhere so far away from Turkey. But I did try a few of their dishes and I am more than happy to say well done to the business owner and the people that prepare the food! The maze platter was nice and at least 3 of the hot appetisers I tried were delicious! My kebab was out of this world and the rice that came with it very very tasty too. I asked them for a very light red wine they brought a couple of different samples and I really appreciated that! Finally I tried the baklava, the delights and had some of the rice pudding my friend ordered. They were absolutely delicious. In fact the baklava was so good that I told the owner well done because it reminded me of the home made ones I used to have in Greece. I asked the owner if it was purchased and he asked me to follow him to tHe kitchen so that he could show me that it is house made. I post a pic as a proof that it is made in house. I was impressed! Well done to the people that run this place. I have been there 3 times in the last 2 weeks and plan on going there often. read more

Fantastic, authentic middle eastern and Turkish cuisine. Great atmosphere--even when the place is slamming busy, which it always is, you can still have a conversation with your companions at a normal level--no shouting required! Excellent drinks and bar selection, great service, and the food is absolutely out of this world. A favorite local dining experience. read more

This place is great! Cozy cafe and great turkish restaurant, and the owner and staff are really nice.

Tuckerbox is a great little cafe along the lonely route from Boston to Burlington. There appear to be a lot of solid options in White River Junction, but this place jumped out at me, and I'm glad I went with it. The BLT - really a reflection on the ingredients you choose - was excellent, and their special kebab sandwich was even more so. Pretty good value for this kind of fare and great service. My only grief lies with the carpet... read more

Very cute spot. The doner kebab wrap is to die for. It was so good we had to take an extra one home!

Marginal coffee shop/eatery... Food was okay, coffee was fantastic, service was AWFUL! Like prior reviews state, some of the staff is straight up rude and cranky.. One of the few ethnic food spots around, and kind of weird as it seems to cater to hipsters... No baby changing station in bathrooms... We have a little one and could have used some support from staff with getting a table; but there was none given. We won't be back. read more

great coffee! and great falafel! they are a little pricey and so I can't come here very often, and I can't comment on most of their dinner items since I'm vegetarian, but honestly this is a great cafe by day, and a really nice classy restaurant by night! the owner takes a lot of pride in the authenticity and freshness of his food too, and is very accommodating overall! definitely a place to check out! read more

Tuckerbox - Valentine's Day latte. - Coffee & Tea Near Me - White River Junction, Vermont

I moved to the Upper Valley from a big city and I think I was most frightened about losing good coffee. I can handle small, and I can handle rural, but I love espresso and a good café is an important part of my work and social life. Thank God for the Tuckerbox then. Easy to get to, easy to park, next to cool stores like Revolution and with great espresso and food. read more

this place is a scam. Everything is overpriced and the cafe is always crowded. I've seen the owner rummage through other people's purses before. DON'T GO HERE! Its always so loud and the servers are all so inefficient...they're rude and they mess orders up ALL the time because they're not listening. The turnover is really high, they're constantly training new people in there & screwing up. Its a headache of a visit, and god forbid you run into one or two of the local cartoonists. They're cut you in line for a glass of milk, shout over you, or just take an entire table up to themselves for all her colored pencils. Don't bother!! read more

Delicious surprise on our way up to Stowe. Got the vegetable stuffed eggplant. I could have eaten 5 more it was so good!

Service was great, and the ambience is cute. Great place to do some work. The soup had no salt. The mezze plate with lavash bread was fabulous. Great yogurt, hummus and the bread fresh. When it came time to the chicken kabob sandwich, there was no spice on the sandwich. It was extremely bland. Middle eastern food is not spicy but it's not bland. This was such a boring sandwich to eat, that tasted like nothing. read more

Cafe culture with snacks and sandwiches in an unlikely area not too far off the highway so for those enroute North and South this is a great stop over spot for quality food and drink. With the amount of laptops in use here you'd think they're giving the goods and services away. Strange for the local environs for sure! read more

Yum, yum, yum, yum. What a place - food was excellent. My kabob was perfect and had excellent spiciness. Great staff and great food.

I checked this place out the other day based on the excellent reviews from my fellow yelpers. Excellent coffee and the danish I had was excellent and I just couldn't help myself and also had a blueberry muffin which was really good too. Thanks again to my fellow yelpers for clueing me in on a nice little place I didn't know existed. Check this place out. read more

Stopped here randomly on the way home from skiing and wish we lived closer. Fantastic ambiance and very friendly service. Best babaganoush I've ever had- also tried chicken kabobs and Borek with Turkish rice pudding for dessert. Would be a great date spot. read more

I love stopping by on lazy afternoons for tea and cookies. Makes for a wonderful spot to catch up with friends or just read a book.

Hidden gem for any big city palette passing through this beautiful stretch of the country.

Our favorite place to eat and relax in White River Junction. The kabobs are cooked to perfection (med-rare) and so lovely flavored in a house sauce. Complex and hearty flavors. The earthen pot dishes are perfect for a cold evening. Rice pudding dessert is my favorite. A carefully chosen menu means that they do everything right and made-to-order. read more

I went for lunch with some friends and decided to try the Istanbul salad. It was on the lunch menu and was $8 so it seemed a fun meal option. (I also mistakenly heard the barista say grain salad... I think she actually said green.) When it came out I was really surprised at how small it was and disappointed. It was pretty much just a side garden salad. It tasted good but it wasn't worth $8 and certainly wouldn't suffice for lunch. (Ingredients included lettuce, corn, onion, carrots, cabbage - all very cheap.) My latte was good and the overall experience was fine. I didn't set out intending to write an overly negative review but wanted to alert people that the salad listing is very misleading. read more

I've never actually had coffee here so it feels odd to give it a rating since Tuckerbox started as and still is a coffeeshop. On the first visit, they only had a simple sandwich menu. I had the BLT which was excellent and used good quality bacon from across the river in NH. Since then, the place changed hands and has added Turkish food and stays open for dinner on weekends. The Turkish menu is good, although pricey for the portion sizes, but it's probably the only Turkish food in the Upper Valley. The falafel sandwich is good, although a little dry. I've had the Mezze platter twice and everything on it is super flavorful. It comes with a huge freshly made lavash bread so I wish they'd put a bit more of each dip on. read more
