Before being examined for cataract surgery at Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute, I read the…read moreassociated information on their website, and then checked the online reviews. The reports of religious indoctrination and hidden charges for the examination concerned me, so I went to my appointment with some apprehension. That apprehension was short lived. My experience was 100% positive. My waiting time was less than 15 minutes, there was no religious propaganda and there were no hidden charges. When I asked upon checkout, I was told--with a smile--that my insurance covered the examination, which took roughly half an hour and obviously incurred significant costs associated with the process. Furthering the good experience, my ophthalmologist recommended that I stay with my contact lenses for a few more years. He said I could have the surgery, but the benefits wouldn't outweigh the minimal risks at this point. The company could have chosen to take my money--roughly $3,500 out-of-pocket--but they were completely honest instead. In short, last month my optometrist examined me for contact lenses and glasses, then suggested I visit an ophthalmologist as a candidate for possible cataract surgery. Yesterday, I paid nothing to do so, as medical (not vision) insurance covered the examination, and my experience was 100% professional and positive. I will certainly be back to Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute in a few years when the surgery will presumedly be needed.

He said cataract surgery would likely not solve my problem but never explained what my problem was that couldn't be corrected by the cataract surgery. I was surprised by this decision so probably not able to ask the right questions but he was in a hurry and rather abrupt. Then he wrote in the notes that he had a long conversation with me and I decided against cataract surgery. The woman who saw me before him was very helpful but he was not. It is very poor care to not see an ophthalmologist before cataract surgery and let an optometrist make the decision about whether you would benefit. Then if you did have cataract surgery the surgeon would not have looked at your eyes him/her self. I am getting a referral to an ophthalmologist.

The doctors care here is excellent and in the past the front of house was also giving excellent customer service. Present day that this is not the case. I had my appointment in the end of January for my eye exam and purchase of glasses. I was quoted 7 to 10 business days to recieve them. On the 10th business day I called to get an update on when they would be in. Whoever answered the phone gave me so much attitude for asking a simply question. I was shocked. They told me that they never quoted 7 to 10 business days, it had only been 9 days according to their system, and that they always quote 10 to 14 days. They said that they will call when my glasses were in and hung up on me. Another week later I called back for an update, because at this point it had been 15 days according to their plan. They said that the glasses were not correct when they arrived and had to be sent back. When I inquired about why I was not inform of this they could not provide an answer. I was quoted another week. I tried to call a week later and got no response. Now 6 weeks have gone by at this point. I have to call them again because they do not know how to pick up a phone clearly. I was informed that my glasses have been waiting for me. When I asked why wasnt I informed, they said that a manager had to call me back to give an explanation. I never got that call. Now I had to wait another week on top of this to go pick up my new glasses because they didnt have any openings. The fact that I had to wait another week to pick up was outrageous. When I finally did get my glasses, they didnt apologize or anything to make up for the fact that I had to wait 7 weeks for my medical device. My advice, fire the front of house staff. Clearly training on customer service isnt a priority when it should be. As someone who has worked in retail for most of my adult life, this is just unacceptable. I would never treat a paying customer this way. Let alone a customer with medical needs.

Dr. Madsen was an awesome doctor for my cataract/IOL surgery. Very easy to talk to, explained everything upfront, and made sure I was comfortable with the expected outcomes (and downsides) for IOL vs. monofocal lenses (what insurance pays for) Net-net, my left eye ended up at 20/15 and my right eye a smidge over 20/20. But my upclose vision with my right eye was sharp at 12" and my left eye didn't get sharp until closer to 20". So unless I am trying to tie a flyfishing fly, I am 100% eyeglass free. I can read books, menus and my iPhone without readers, and have great long distance vision as well. My surgery was done in 2018 and everything is still great.

He basically dismissed me after I told him my profession. I asked about eye plugs after surgery and he wouldn't tell what they were, or why or why not one would need them. He just said "you don't need to hear about that". I didn't feel comfortable at all. I wound up using a different office for my surgery where they answered all my questions and more!

I waited the minimum 3 months to see how things would heal, then waited an additional 3 to see if things progressed. The latter portion was partly my decision and my scheduling challenges, but the touch-up surgery was worth waiting for. They say that this can be a common thing for about 1 in 10 patients. While going through this again 6 months after my initial surgery wasn't the idea I had going in, it was even easier than the first surgery, plus it didn't cost me a cent. I had my full vision almost immediately following and now have better than perfect vision. Had some of the same team treat me this second time around, including Dr. Madsen, but again everyone was really comforting and helpful. I love not wearing contacts or worrying about driving at night! My pre-conceived notion was that LasikPlus was the TJ Max of Lasik and Teplik was the Nordstrom's. I will admit I was completely wrong and boy did I have that backward. Dr. Sam from LasikPlus went above and beyond to answer my questions and concerns. Please note: I called Dr. Teplik's office concerned my Lasik had failed. and they did not allow me to speak with anyone immediately even I am their patient. Even more impressive was the professionalism by Dr. Sam. She said nothing negative about Dr. Teplik, ensured me that my vision changes were unlikely from Lasik failure, and still referred me back to Teplik for an evaluation. Regardless, Teplik under-corrected both of my eyes and I had to return for second Lasik. Dr. Sam took the time to understand my situation and concerns completely. If I had to do my Lasik over I would without a doubt go to Dr. Sam at LasikPlus. She is absolutely amazing! Teplik stopped caring about me as a patient after my first procedure and they were paid. If you want great care both before and after your Lasik, LasikPlus and Dr. Sam will surely deliver.
