Sometimes pleasant surprises come from road trips. Having been in the area for the weekend, I decided to stop by and give this place a try, having a distinct lack of Korean Fried Chicken places near me. What came of my stop was a rather pleasant experience! It's a small little store, but they make use of the space quite well, with plenty of seating outside as well as a few tiny tables within. The cashier was friendly and helpful with the menu, and for fried chicken, I'd say the wait time was rather short! We waited about 8-10 minutes for our food, but that may be because the store was quiet when we arrived. In addition, the portion sizes are HUGE! When I first ordered, I was worried that the prices were disproportionate, but you definitely get bang for your buck. On top of great portions, it also tastes fantastic. Crispy, coated in delicious sauce. They even give you a free cup of pickled radish, which helps neutralize the spice and prevents your palate from blowing out. I Google'd restaurants open late in Pleasanton and found Ttobongee as one of the options! I was originally going to another Korean fried chicken restaurant, but this place was open until 9pm, so we decided to try this place out. When you enter, you place your order on one of their digital screens. This place offers fried chicken in a variety of flavors and other street food such as onion rings, tteokbokki, dumplings, and more. Now when I first clicked the screen, only 2 options showed up for chicken: Original and Yang Nyum, although there were other options listed on the paper menu. I thought maybe they were out of the other flavors, so I ordered Yang Nyum. It wasn't until after I had place in my order did I see the other flavors on a different tab. Our order was ready in 20 minutes. The appetizers--onion rings and tteokbokki-- came out first. This is the first time I've tried tteokbokki served as a soup style as opposed to thick sauce (this was also very spicy). The Yang Nyum flavor is sweet Korean chili, and is slightly spicy, just in case your palette is sensitive. I liked how they gave mini gloves to eat your fried chicken so it wouldn't be so messy! My friend took me to Ttobongee for our catch-up dinner-- apparently it's been making the rounds on social media as a rising favorite. For COVID safety purposes, masks are required & hand sanitizer is provided. This location is pretty small... Hardly any seating and no music, only the sound of kitchen clanging/chicken frying to accompany your meal. Orders are self-placed on a standing kiosk, but staff are on standby if you have any questions. They're super peppy & FAST! Our 4 items came out within 15 min-- we'd just barely sat down and started chatting before our order number was called. Plastic gloves come with your order in preparation for the inevitable saucy carnage. GREEN ONION CHICKEN: Lightly breaded & tender. Perfect for those who like some sauce, but not overly drenched. Having bites of green onion cuts through the heaviness of eating an entire box of chicken LOL. SODDUK SODDUK: Wasn't too impressed... Just Vienna sausages & average tteokbokki (very much on the sweeter end than spicy). I usually like these with cheese! Not sure if they just use a different supplier, but their pieces are notably smaller than other Korean fried chicken places... Comparable quality. Update from the last review - after several more trips to Ttobongee I've learned to love and accept that the saucy chicken is still good even though it's not as crispy as other places. The price is also pretty steep for fried chicken but the quality is great. The extra crispy chicken is delicious and I always dip it into the yangnyum sauce. The workers are also so nice here and put a smile on my face every time I come! My favorites and must gets are: the crispy, jalapeño chicken, and the yangnyum chicken. read more

I was looking forward to trying the fried chicken. I had arrived at 2:30 pm and was told that they took their last order for the afternoon so needed to return in the evening. If they close their afternoon service at 3 pm why can't they take my order? So I guess I can't recommend this place. Ordinarily I can understand shutting down for day and the staff needing the time to clean up but this is unacceptable. Sorry. I don't think I'm out of line with my thought process. PS, I didn't see the sign that indicate service will not be taken within 30 minutes of service hour (3 pm). The counter person tried to articulate and point to a sign. In any case, I was turned away. Your lost. Although this business may have been in business for 2 years, this was my first visit and probably last. Why post hours if you don't intent to continue to serve. No big sweat, there are establishments nearby. I won't recommend visiting this place, no excuses. It's a shame that your staff needs to work at multiple places to make a living. read more

Solid KFC spot for a hot afternoon! We ordered a full combo of the half & half (regular/yangnyum) and soy garlic plus the sodduck sodduck appetizer, which ended up being perfect for our party of 5. The soy garlic was tasty with a bit of a kick, but my personal favorite was definitely the yangnyum with the sweet sticky chili sauce! Skin? crispy. Meat? Juicy. I've been here twice now, and I still stand by the green onion flavor!! So so good. Easy to order, and they're really going as fast they can with that 20-25 minute wait. You can tell these didn't come straight out of the freezer, so I'm willing to wait a little longer for fresh fried chicken. Their sodduck sodduck is probably my favorite out of everything - the sausage and rice cake together in one bite is perfect with the sauce they drizzle on. The original and jalapeño flavors are also pretty good! The jalapeño looks almost exactly like the yang nyum flavor so make sure that's labeled. We also ordered fries as a side, and they overfill the box!! It still fascinates me that most of the people who park in this tiny plaza go to Chipotle instead of here. read more

For 2 people, we ordered half original, half galbi, and a side of sotteok sotteok (fried Korean rice cake & sausage skewers) and it was more than enough food for both of us. - Original: the crisp is good, and it tastes pretty clean since there's no sauce. If you don't like saucy things, definitely go for this one. - galbi: pretty good though I wish it was a bit more saucy. - sotteok sotteok skewers: star of the show here. For $6 you get 2 skewers slathered in sweet chili sauce. The rice cakes and sausages were both fried, and the sauce was on point! We might attempt to make this at home since it looks fairly easy to make, but I'm glad we tried it. After we ordered, we heard the cashier recommended to another group the jalapeño chicken and yang nyum. I'll definitely be back some time to try their other flavors. Staff was friendly. Our food came out about 20-30 mins after we ordered, which is understandable given that they're still in their soft opening when we came. There are a couple of tables indoors and outdoors. The small restaurant has a few tables inside with a number of communal tables outside. With all the tables taken inside, we ordered our food to go, and decided to eat outside. The food took about 15-20 minutes to be prepared. It all came out piping hot and fresh. The GREEN ONION was out favorite. The chicken was juicy, fresh onions and hit of mustard in the sauce made this dish light (for fried chicken). The KIMCHI paired great with everything. I really enjoyed the kimchi at this restaurant. The Crispy chicken was good. I wish we had tried something else instead as it was that exciting to eat. It was just OK. The service was great. Everyone was so nice. We ordered more to go, to bring home to the family. We were waiting patiently outside, and the staff member brought it to us, saving us a trip back inside. What stood out to me was that my friend and I were eating and talking and catching up for 3 hours, sitting at our table, and not once did the workers look at us weird or make us feel rushed or start pre-bussing the table. I have a love-hate relationship with Korean fried chicken where I really crave it here and there but later I realize I don't really like soy garlic that much. I decided to try this place out because there seemed to be a good variety of flavors. The shop itself is pretty small with only about 3 tables on the inside, but I came on a weekday so I was able to get a table. Me and my friends ordered the half and half with drums and wings which came with the Yang Nyum and original chicken, along with another half order of the galbi chicken. Overall, the chicken was really good! There was a perfect amount of sauce and the chicken was at a good level of crispiness. They don't batter their chicken which I honestly appreciate because after eating so much Bonchon, I feel like the batter becomes a bit tiring after a few pieces. If I were to rank the flavors, I'd probably go: 1. Galbi 2. Yang Nyum 3. We were having a playdate in the area and was looking for a place for dinner where the kids can continue playing and the adults can eat and talk. Korean fried chicken to the rescue! The menu here is quite small, but there's no need for a big menu when you do the few items so well! The fried chicken here is fried to perfection... nice and crunchy on the outside and hot and juicy on the inside! I wanted to try the jalapeno flavor, but opted for the more milder flavors cuz kids. The rice cake on a stick was a nice surprise! It was really good, and I haven't seen it at other KFC restaurants. We ordered on the kiosk and sat outside so the kids could run around a bit. They brought the food out to us! That was a nice, unexpected touch. There's plenty of tables to sit, both big and small... perfect for a warm summer evening! New fried chicken spot near my work i had to try it. I am sad this place replaced the only boba spot around the area, but a great replacement. Came here a couple times so far they are very consistent. I had the yangnyeom, soy garlic, and green onion chicken so far. Beware the yangnyeom has a decent spice to it. Sometimes they give an extra wing or drumstick depending on how they are feeling. Fries were very crunchy, but they will get soggy overtime so eat them fast. Both boxes of chicken already came with a side of white pickled radish. I must say that the drums from this establishment is quite big. I want to say bigger than Bonchon, which I'm not a huge fan of, however, even if it's a big drumstick, it is packed with juices. It's not dry like most drumsticks. Also, the flavoring is pretty basic, but I was not in the mood for something overly sweet or spicy, so this was just right. The crispy fried chicken was my favorite! It was kind of small, but they have a generous amount which I was not mad at. Nonetheless, it hit the spot! What I did notice was the size + amount of wings given if only chosen wings may not correspond well with the pricing, hence why we chose what we chose. I have never been to a Korean fried chicken restaurant so I was unsure what to to order. It appears as if most of the combinations only include wings and drumsticks, I generally like meatier cuts of chicken like the thigh and the breasts so I ordered the whole chicken, and on the recommendation of the staff the sausage rolls. The sauce on the sausage roll was tasty but was a little too sweet /salty for me. It was also very garlicky but I did not mind that much. As for the fried whole chicken...I really liked the spice blend on it and it was fried perfectly, the only thing was it was the the tiniest whole chicken I have ever seen. Communal tables are available outside. I ordered a full-size order of Crispy chicken combo (wings and drumsticks) for my first visit since it was recommended it can be shared by 2 people. It came with small radish banchan. It did not disappoint! It was so good that I came back for dinner and ordered a half order of the Soy Garlic and Yang Nyum (Sweet & Korean chili sauce) chicken combos. Both were good; they had their own distinct flavors.
