I went into Tsuga Fine Art earlier this year for a custom framing job. I was warmly welcomed, and the framing options were clearly explained to me. I specifically requested that the frame/mat not cover the low "g" (see photos) on my drawing, and this request was superbly honored. I remember that the time frame for the custom framing job seemed reasonable, and that I felt that the price was reasonable also. The price was around $200. I drew this drawing/doodle last year when my friend Sammar came over to my house for a virtual water tasting with Water Sommelier Martin Riese, but Martin cancelled the virtual water tasting at the last minute due to a personal emergency, so Sammar and I chatted and doodled spontaneously. I do consider this drawing and writing to be a doodle, and I would not have considered framing it of my own accord, but my Brother / Best Friend Ryan, who currently works as a Flight Nurse on a Helicopter (Critical Care Nursing and Emergency Transport Nursing) saw my drawing and he said that he really liked it, and he told me that he wanted it framed for his Birthday. I know that I can do much better with both drawing and calligraphy, so I wasn't sure how Tsuga's staff would react to this drawing/doodle when I'm sure that they deal with professional artists frequently. I didn't draw this with any intention to ever frame it. However, the staff member who handled my custom framing order was very sweet and genuine, and she had a very positive reaction to my drawing as soon as I showed it to her. Ryan loved his Birthday present. I don't remember the exact time frame that the Tsuga staff member said that they would have it ready in, I think it was 3 weeks or so. But I do remember that the custom framing job was done well in advance of Ryan's Birthday, and I also remember that Tsuga completed it within the time frame that they had promised me, which I appreciated. I am very happy with my experience at Tsuga Fine Art, and I would recommend them for custom framing. I would return any time if I ever have anything else that I would like to get custom framed. read more

Everyone I worked with here was fantastic and patient, taking the time to help me navigate all the framing choices. In addition they went out of their way to do research into how best care for and restore the piece given the minor deterioration that had occurred. I took a picture in that had glass cracked by the movers. It's a large but very nice piece that doesn't fit in our Senior apartment, so I offered to give it to Tsuga for free, so they could repair it and sell it to someone who would enjoy it in their home. I was told that they didn't have any room for it. What a bunch of baloney! Reading the reviews I expected better. read more

I've had two pieces framed here. The quality of both framing jobs was excellent. They've got a good selection of frames and as usual in custom framing, if you pick the most expensive woods then you pay a lot. If you tone it down and communicate about your price range then you'll get exactly what you want. Both jobs were done quickly, as promised and look really great on the wall. read more

I don't do very much framing; about once every 10 years or so. This means that every time that I have a project, it's all new for me. Further, this type of effort is compounded by my complete lack of any artistic or decorating abilities. I took my project to 5 different frame shops and got 5 different recommendations on frame and mat styles as well as a plethora of color options. While I didn't go with the recommendations that FrameWright had suggested, I did select this shop for my project for three reasons. 1) They were the least expensive quote that I received. 2) They were owner run and operated, not a franchise. 3) They were the least expensive quote that I received. The workmanship was flawless, it was done on time and the customer service was was very good. I have a Thomas Arvid artist proof that I wanted to have reframed because the frame it was in was much too large for the walls in my new home. I took it into Tsuga Fine Art and left it with a request to provide design recommendations on how to address the issue. When I returned, Ken laid out his choices and explained the different frame types and why the reasons for his recommendations. As I tend to be, I was indecisive and Ken patiently worked through some of my ideas, which turned out to be all wrong. I finally went with Ken's very first recommendation which was a brushed gold-colored, floating frame. Ken prepared the piece and reframed it, providing excellent customer service throughout the entire process. I couldn't be happier with the outcome! I love this place. It's a beautiful little corner store on Main Street in Bothell. I can get reasonably priced original art here that rivals downtown Kirkland galleries, and get nice quality mattes and frames that compete with the price of those large art stores. I like supporting a local place. Ray's post is right -- if you tell them what budget you're on, they can find a frame and matte for you within that budget. They are very low key and kind, will help you decide if you want, and also leave you alone to consider if that is how you operate. They have art classes, poetry readings, free Santa photos during Christmas; it's pet friendly and they support the community. Whenever I'm in the area I stop by and walk through the beautiful gallery. Highly recommend Ken and Tsuga. read more

I had a somewhat complicated and delicate piece for Ken to do in a jam for an art show. In short, he only had about a day to get the frame joined and fitted, but it was done perfectly and fast. As an artist I'm very picky about what the final product should look like and I was very satisfied with his work. I'm not condoning waiting till the last minute but that I was very pleased with his service and quality and the price is quite reasonable. read more

I brought 2 diplomas and a certificate in for framing. Ken (the owner) helped me select a handsome mat and frame combination that worked well with all 3 items. The finished products were immaculately crafted and returned to me in a timely manner. To top it off, after getting ball park quotes from no less than 8 competitors, the price here was the best by a fair margin.
