I know that I just got here, but this is my favorite cafe in Toronto by far. And it's also the first one I tried too, so I'm definitely starting on a high note. They had alot of things to choose from: various coffees and teas, pastries and other goodies in the glass, along with vegan entrees too. I just wanted to try their Iced Hojicha Latte + oat milk, and I couldn't help but find the Matcha Tiramisu. It caught my eye and I before I knew it, I took one to go. There wasn't much seating in this cafe but I managed to find a table for myself a couple minutes after getting my order. My Hojicha latte was perfect. It was earthy, nutty, and had the perfect level of sweetness. The hojicha and creaminess from the oat milk paired together very well. And the Matcha Tiramisu? Wow. It felt like deconstructed Matcha Tiramisu which I still love. The mascarpone cream was rich, light, and tasted so good with the matcha dipped lady fingers. The lady fingers had an interesting texture to me. It wasn't as soft as I'd expected, maybe it disintegrated a little because of the heat. I refrigerated it after right after I got home, but maybe the heat still got to it. It was still delicious to me. It was nice to feel reminiscent of my time in Japan. I loved it all and had a great time. Service was excellent, the cashier was friendly and easy going. Next time I'll have to come back and try their vegan food. This place is my new obsession. I love vegan food as much as Japanese food and this was like being back in Japan. The dessert options they have are gluten free, very flavourful, and not too sweet. I ordered their tsuchi set meal which came with your choice of onigiri, ramen, impossible meat katsu, potato salad, and cold side veg. Just eating thế food made me so happy. Matcha, hojicha and their miso caramel macchiato is so good here! Their matcha is a vibrant green, and they use oat milk by default. You can also sub it out for soy milk if you'd like. They don't put too much sugar which is perfect for my taste. Their miso caramel macchiato has green strong coffee flavours. Their storefront is really cute as well. I wanted to try their drinks but had already gotten coffee earlier. I ended getting lunch instead. 12 spiced "beef" curry and rice with add on of 2 pieces "karaage" - the beef curry was very good as the spices were very flavorful. The pickled onions had a little spicy in addition to its tartness. Finally had a chance to try out this place after seeing it packed a couple times I walked by. Their menu consists of vegan food savoury and sweet. The interior is quite minimalist and very simple. There are only small tables for 2 people, so not recommend for large parties. Karaage - Vegan karaage had a similar texture to chicken nuggets. They were large pieces, but pretty heavy. First bite was interesting, but it was difficult to finish the dish even with two people. Nice to try, but wouldn't get again. Strawberry cheesecake tart - Tart shell was interesting, probably was because it was gluten free. Thicker parts of the crust had better texture. Then there was a small layer of strawberry whipped cream and strawberry jam. The flavour was very subtle, but when adjusted the flavour was very good. Would get again. Miso caramel macchiato - A bit too sweet for my taste. It was overpowering the miso flavour and the bitterness of the caramel. Would not recommend. The matcha soaked biscuit was probably gluten free, so it had a bit different from regular lady-finger. A bit crumby, but I liked the unique texture somehow. Better to consume right away, as it gets soggy as time passes. #Yuzu Citron Tart: The citrus yuzu filling was not custard, but more like Jelly-ish, giving it a firm yet yielding texture. The taste was lighter and more refreshing than common heavy/starchy custard filling. But the cake had full burst of citrus/yuzu flavor. The quality of the coffee was a nice medium roast, if you like philz ecstasy it's that sort of flavor with a hint of salted caramel like miso. Tsuchi Cafe was a highlight of my Toronto visit. It's stylish and trendy (as evidenced by the name-dropping filmmaker seated next to us). There's limited seating, but a table opened up right about the time we got our food. The karaage was delicious, and the texture was good. I loved the cold noodle dish, the day's special. Veggies and noodles with a light yet flavorful sauce. The "beef" curry with rice was also rich and tasty. My husband claimed that for himself after one bite. We had ginger sodas to drink--no coffee or tea. But if we return to Toronto this will be at the top of our list to revisit, so we'll plan for coffee then. read more

The matcha tiramisu is horrible. It tastes soggy, stale and over kept. The bread taste like grainy wet sand in my mouth and the matcha taste is barely present. The fig tart was pretty good: the cream cheese whip was so smooth, but the fig jam was a bit too sweet for me and would have liked the tart shell to be a bit nuttier. My wife who lived in Japan for a year is absolutely head over heels for this place, and says the food and vibe reminds her of her time there. My friend took me to this cafe, as he said that he enjoyed the drinks and food items on numerous occasions. He is a vegetarian, so he was very happy to have discovered a plant-based cafe focusing on Japanese food and drinks. He could not wait to show me this cafe and I was excited to discover a new cafe in my city! The cafe was small yet cozy, the wood panels and shades of brown evoked a relaxing vibe. The place was full of people drinking, eating and chatting, although it was only 11:30am on a Saturday morning. He decided to get a Katsu sandwich (shokupan bread, Japanese mustard, "chicken" cutlet, shredded cabbage, and a sweet katsu sauce). He also got a small Matcha Latte (with soy milk) for me. He said that the Katsu sandwich was good. However, he felt that there could have been more "chicken" cutlet pieces and more veggies inside, to match with the price point. I also agreed that while my Matcha Latte with soy milk was good, as it was made with soy milk, the latte was not as rich as I would have liked. It tasted a bit watery, like a diluted latte. The quality of matcha was great, as I could taste a light bitterness in the drink. Overall, we would give this place four out of five stars. I've popped by before for hot drinks in the winter but I'm glad I finally was able to come sit down for the cafe and actual food. It's a small shop but everything is of quality. They have a good selection of food, pastries, drinks and even take home/ out items. Everything is vegan friendly. Ordered the katsu sando, curry bowl, matcha tiramisu, and melon pan. I'm pleasantly surprised with their mock meats because the texture is there (sometimes vegan places don't do this well). Flavours are also there which really help round it out. I love their tiramisu and soy whip because to me, it tastes cleaner and not as heavy as I usually feel after traditional tiramisu. Flavours were muted and I thought the consistency of the curry was off. The cheesecake was missing some sweetness and richness and the dollop of cream was turning into water - hmmm. WTH? AND the donut - well... it didn't even get a picture posted here. Meh. SO WHY THE 4-STARS!?! After discussing the food with my friend. 2 of my friends are vegan so we made sure to visit on our trip to Toronto. We came by around 11am on a Saturday and there were still open tables even though this cafe is small. The curry rice with karaage, bento box with karaage, and matcha tiramisu were amazing!! The curry was rich and well seasoned and the karaage tasted super similar to chicken, with a similar texture as well. The matcha tiramisu had a strong matcha flavor and wasn't too sweet or too creamy which we loved! We weren't amazed by the drinks we got (miso caramel latte, matcha latte) or by the custard bun, pistachio beignet, or sandwiches. We spent a few nights in Toronto and visited a variety of cafes during our time there--this was one of our favorite spots and we'd 100% go back again if we had the chance! Tsuchi Cafe is a Japanese cafe with high quality pastries and drinks. We ordered a fig pastry and lattes, one of which was a miso caramel latte. The latte was super rich, and the miso caramel was also a super interesting flavor! The miso flavor was extremely subtle but added a lot more depth to the flavor of the caramel drink. The fig cake was also extremely delicious and paired really well with the coffee. The interior of the cafe is designed to be very modern and clean while still being inspired by Japanese design choices. Tsuchi Cafe is located along College Street right in the heart of Little Italy. This new Japanese cafe/bakery for Japanese comfort food/desserts is by the same owners of Kingyo in Cabbagetown. The unique concept behind this Tsuchi is that all their offerings are completely plant based. They recently opened where you can buy a variety of food items from them including desserts (tarts, tiramisus), condiments, granola, as well as prepacked items ramen, noodles (egg free!), curry, and mapo tofu which are all plant based. I stopped by Tsuchi Cafe on a Tuesday midday to pick up a few items I ordered online from their website. They currently are doing a soft opening. The exterior and interior of the cafe is very zen like and calming with several plants near the window. I picked up my order fairly quickly and the staff also offered me a complimentary hojicha tea which I enjoyed (despite burning my tongue!) in the cold weather. These are the items I purchased: - Hojicha cheesecake - HARU's signature tiramisu - Matcha tiramisu - Roasted garlic miso ramen - 12 Spice Beyond curry - Yuzu pepper pesto I've already had the roasted garlic miso ramen (comes with egg free noodles, miso broth, and "meat") as well as the hojicha cheesecake (dairy and egg free!). Both were delicious despite them being plant based. The matcha tiramisu was also light and airy! Not too sweet but you could taste the matcha flavour (along with the soy milk whipped cream). One of my favourite cafes in Toronto! This was my first time visiting this café and I loved it. Interior 10/10 : it's filled with beautiful plants and gives a rustic feel with how almost everything there is made of wood. Food 9/10: I tried their matcha latte which came with lactose-free milk. Some really great things, and some room for improvement - hence a 3. They had such amazing sounding drinks!! But I only drink decaf, and they don't make decaf coffee, so I could only have decaf tea or their chocolate drink. I got an iced chocolate, but I found the taste very mild. It mostly tasted like oat milk (which is my milk of choice), and I couldn't taste the chocolate at all. They have paper straws and mine immediately started disintegrating. I got an egg sandwich, and just felt like it was missing a certain something - a lemon note? mayo taste? pepper? no idea. Just something was left to be desired. I absolutely appreciated the ramp into the space, but the door doesn't have an automatic opening button, so once at the door (which pulls out), you can't get in. Same with the ramp to the patio - appreciated, but it was placed dead centre in front of a bike locking pole. The space is beautiful, and the staff were very friendly and nice. Best. Plant-based. Desserts. Ever! You can't tell it's plant-based! Tsuchi got my attention as it gives reminisce of a Japanese storefront with wooden exterior, clean and minimalistic interior and an alluring aroma of green tea/matcha. The food: Tsuchi offers a variety of desserts, ranging from tiramisu in a jar, cookies, cake slices to swiss rolls and pies. Their rotation switches up monthly (I believe is still the case) which allows you to try fruits and products that are in season (a very sustainable approach!). My favourite from Tsuchi are: kurogama (black sesame) cheesecake, vanilla bean cheesecake and black sesame brownies. Tsuchi's savoury offerings such as curry bowls, karepan and karaage are also must-try! This will always be my favourite spot for a quick pick-me-up as well as a sit-down/leisure hang. read more

(I kid you not, I dream about this place from time to time because their vegan pastries are so delicious) - 1. Muscat Tart ($10.2 CAD) This is their 'weekly' special- a gluten free friendly almond cake with cream, grapes and blueberries(for decoration purposes, given there were only 2 of them). The whipped cream was not too sweet, airy, smooth & paired well with the crisp grapes and tart shell. 2. Strawberry Sakura Cheesecake ($8.4 CAD) What better way to celebrate cherry blossom season than with their 'monthly special'? Cheese cake with strawberry (compote I'm assuming) on the bottom, and cream & a Sakura flower on top. Delicious Japanese plant focused food in a beautifully decorated cafe! I was most impressed by the Curry with "Karaage". The flavors of the curry were delicious and the texture of the karaage was perfect - with a crispy outer layer and amazing flavorful inside. Their shokupan was fluffy and soft on the inside, despite being toasted on the inside! There's no surprise why they sell out so fast on Fridays. Lastly the Vanilla Flan and Tantan Ramen were well done considering it was made without egg and flan. The flavors were maintained yet the textures were a bit different from usual. We visited Tsuchi on college today, it's a new japanese cafe with plant based desserts and food). We got the Matcha tiramisu and hojicha cheesecake and They were both so tasty!! I've not had anything like this here and it's really much more what we'd expect to get in Japan. So many fresh and well thought out flavours in each of these, I highly recommend a visit! You will love these if you're a fan of Asian desserts with a unique and sweet twist! read more

What a delightful surprise! I was walking home with my tween when we saw a new, modern, clean looking Japanese café. Went in to try a rich matcha cheesecake, and ImmuniTEA drink. My girl had a karapan (curry bread), and enjoyed it! I'd love to go back to try something savoury. Prices are on the $$ side, but the quality was there. Music was chill, relaxing. Very well-designed location with lots of unique vegan/dairy-free options! High quality design, from the outdoor seating area to the bathrooms. Great service as well.
